That project went well, although I didn't appreciate the pot smoking on the job. Then I hired Ken to fix a leaky toilet at another property. He ended up paying another plumber, and charged me top dollar ($1,000). The plumber deposited the trash including the old toilet on the street in front of my rental, causing my other tenants to complain. This is complete disrespect for the community (Long Beach). Ken would not call me too discuss...he would only text me demanding payment. I finally got him on the phone, and after a heated exchange, he threatened to put a lien on my property. This guy is a poor communicator and a lousy businessman. I plan to file a complaint with the Contractors State License Board and recover any costs incurred should he unlawfully place a lien on my property.

Kenny had been doing work in the building and came highly recommended. I asked Kenny to build some built ins on an abandoned roof top public area. He laid a floor down. Did an excellent job in constructing the built in, perfect pitch and very comfortable. He uses good quality product, follows your design, cleans up after himself every day, and has a very good crew. He is trust worthy and does an excellent job for a fair, good price. It is now a popular space and created a very nice amenity for the building. After he did such a good job in our common area I had him put a new kitchen in for me and redo my floor to ceiling metal windows. Once again he and his crew stepped up, did a great job, with as little disruption as possible for a good fair price. I mostly like when he runs into unforeseen situations he doesn't cut corners and does the best job that can be expected. I highly recommend Kenny and 5th Generation Construction.

The longest wall in the house, the one you see from any vantage point, was covered in wood paneling that we had tried to disguise, rather unsucessfully, under a coat of bright blue paint after moving in. The wall opposite that had been covered in a mystifying checkerboard pattern of mirror and cork, which my husband had removed previously, leaving the wall surface pockmarked. We also had a crack in the ceiling that resisted patching. When we reached out to Brian, he was reponsive and personable. He started working as soon as we were ready, first diagnosing the issue with the ceiling crack and then doing a more permanent fix to keep it from returning. He was able to remove the wood paneling while preserving the wall behind so that it just needed a skim coat, and he smoothed out the wall that had been damaged by the mirrors. He followed this up with a light spray so that the texure matched that of the surrounding walls that we didn't touch. Throughout the process, Brian made sure we were all on the same page and that we were happy with his approach as well as the end result. We're so happy with the clean, updated look of our living space and will give Brian's number to anyone who needs drywall work done.

He was pleasant to talk to on the phone, and he even confirmed our appointment with a text, saying that I was on the calendar. On the day of our appointment, I called him earlier on to confirm our meeting, and he didn't answer. I sent him a text, and he didn't respond. Four minutes AFTER we were supposed to meet, he texts me, saying that his job was having problems, that he was running about an hour late, and that he could call me when finished to see if I was still available. I told him that I wanted him to call, and he agreed to do so. The work I need done is on a rental property. It's not my own home. As a consequence, I found myself sitting in an empty unit on a Friday night. Now, I guess if I was at my house I could take a nap, watch tv, do some chores, etc. However, this was not the case. I was sitting in an empty house by myself, with no furniture to even sit on. For an hour. On a Friday night. Actually, it was more than an hour. I waited 2.5 hours for Tom to call me, and he never did. The next day, I sent him a text in the morning asking if he was still interested in the job and if he could meet me at another time, or if his failure to call meant that he was not interested in the job. You have time to go catch a movie! He's not coming back any time soon. I had several projects for him to complete. To be fair, he did very well at switching out two exterior lights. HOWEVER, Do NOT let him drill holes ANYWHERE!!!!! I wanted a recessed light. He couldn't install it; instead, he got a similar flush mount. It's been six days and countless hours of work... I don't have recessed lights. Instead, I have no fewer than 4 holes in my 2nd story hardwood floors (above the kitchen). His drill even went into a storage bin that I had in a closet (piercing the contents over and over). I have 5 gaping holes in my ceiling and am having to hire an electrician AND ANOTHER HANDYMAN to fix Tom's "work." Very sad. I kept giving him chance after chance, and all I got for it was hours and hours of wasted time waiting, a ruined floor, ruined ceiling, ruined computer monitor, ruined storage bin, and swiss cheesed keepsakes. #Sigh

He fixed the light above our kitchen sink that hadn't worked for a long time. And the light in our refrigerator was acting like a strobe light. He placed some tape over the button that controls that light so now the light doesn't go on when we open the fridge but I'm glad that the flickering has stopped! Also, he noticed that the kitchen faucet had a weak water flow on the "stream" setting. He told me what to do to get it back to normal. I really appreciated that help. I was tired of having to use the "spray" setting all the time. Overall I'm very happy with the work Minde did and also happy with his fee.
