Every other contractor said to go buy one and cut it down but that wouldve made the door weaker. The attention to detail was relieving. Didn't have to tell him EXACTLY what to do and check on him. Minde is an artist. Every now and then, you get someone you really like. Last thing, on price he was very competitive. Not the highest, but not low balling either. I originally wanted a Doric-style column, but they recommended a rectangular column using a durable PVC-type material (used for piping) and even reduced the price. I was hesitant, but it turned out to be the right call. They completed the job in one day and the house looks noticeably upgraded. Afterward, I noticed some movement in the railing slats. They explained it's normal since the railing is custom fabricated on site (not one solid piece), and similar to others in the neighborhood.
