    Beef drunken kao piak
    Ruby P.

I found this restaurant while planning a visit near Lake Nokomis and Lake Hiawatha. I walked here from the lakes and ordered the beef drunken kao piak, which I had never tried before--and it was good! It's a stir-fried udon dish with vegetables and beef, and it was very flavorful. The portion size was reasonable for the price. I did look over the menu's meat options and didn't see duck listed, which surprised me given the restaurant's name. One downside is that the restaurant is quite small and can probably seat only about 10 people. That said, I appreciated how conveniently located it is near the Metro Blue Line train station, which made it easy for me to head to my next destination.

Three cheers for Asian Duck Cafe! We're so happy this spot opened up in our neighborhood. We've been here twice now and am happy to say my second experience was even better than my first! We ordered the Nam khao - one of our new favorite dishes! Crispy pieces of meat with flavorful fried rice. It's a big plate for the cost too Also ordered kaopiek San - a cozy bowl of soup with thick noodles. Super comforting on a cold day. I will be ordering this again very soon as a reward for all the dang shoveling of snow! Service was quick and foot was fresh. It's mostly takeout with very few tables so wouldn't bring a group to eat here for dinner.

We liked the food! Parking is a little tricky but we live in the neighborhood. We ordered ahead and picked up. Nice and easy online ordering system. We ordered medium fried rice and it was pretty spicy for us! Flavor was good and it had a good sauce but too spicy for us. It is only 2 chili peppers. Dumplings are 10/10. They are juicy, flavorful and have a thicker wrapper. The pho broth was good. Not sweet and had a beefy flavor. The meat came par cooked but surprisingly tender. The take out didn't come with jalapeño or a hoisin/ sriracha packet, which was a little disappointing. Try it out if you are in the neighborhood!

Left is chicken banh mi. Right is the beef one. Chicken was far tastier!

I was born and raised on Oahu, just moved to MN a handful of years ago and I'm always looking for food that reminds me of home. And this is one of them! Even the prices remind me of home?? I'm so impressed with the delicious food at such an amazing price point - you hardly see that in MN. Ramen is always soooo over priced, but not at Staff Meeting! We had the tonkotsu ramen, mom's fried rice, and the wings. All absolutely delicious and I'd get them all again. I wish they had the ribs, I was hoping to try it! I'll definitely return and highly encourage everyone to visit!!!!

There were other great options too! So this would be a solid date spot or meeting with friends so everyone can get something they like. There is a fair amount of seating inside and a fair amount of seating outside on a patio. There really isn't a view for the patio. There are free parking lots across the street though! Service: This is where they lost a star from us. The woman who took our order had no energy, wasn't very friendly and just looked annoyed we were ordering. I had heard good things about the service, so this was a bummer. The food: We got them take out wings and each got the pork ramen. The wings are very good, but best in twin cities? No. Are they worth getting? If you love a crunchy wing, then yes! The ramen had the most flavorful broth!! Oh my goodness it was rich and full of flavor! The noddles were cooked perfectly! Definitely one of the best ramen dishes I have had in the twin cities! We would have tried the ribs but they were all out of :( Definitely check this place out!

Like you know when you go to a restaurant and they make you feel like you are there for them and not the reverse? Disinterested, disengaged server who didn't check back. It felt like we were an inconvenience. Also, it's 2026 so it's weird when the server dismissively leaves one check without asking how to divide it for a party of six. Pretty weird. ANYwhoo the only thing our service guaranteed is that I won't be back. There are plenty of other options with great service and I'm sad that Hai Hai, a once mind blowingly amazing establishment in food, service, ambience has become where the tip decision is based solely on not wanting to hurt someone's livelihood. Such a shame.

We came on Thursday early evening and were surprised that they were offering happy hour from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. There were app, entree, sushi, and even alcohol happy hour specials. We took advantage of the gyoza and spring roll happy hour priced items which were still full servings of the regular-priced appetizers! Their spring rolls are so fresh and quite large. The gyoza was lightly fried and the pork-based filling was exactly what I had expected. I knew I wanted the Rama spinach curry with chicken (which is what I always get) but my bestie wasn't sure what she wanted. She asked our waitress, Danielle, for a recommendation and ended up getting the Magnificent Massaman curry with chicken. While both hit the spot, the Magnificent Massaman curry is called magnificent for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I still love my Rama curry, but the Massaman - it was amazing. We shared a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc with was appropriately priced and nicely chilled. You can't go wrong here. You can tell this unassuming spot is a neighborhood favorite. There was a steady flow of people coming in, some alone to sit and have dinner or dinner and a drink alone, others with their entire family (even with small children). There were a lot of people picking up takeout, too. Parking is off street, and the restrooms are sort of outside of the restaurant in a hallway (like they are at Longfellow Grill). You won't be disappointed if you give this place a try!

The volume in the restaurant is quite loud, so the patio may be better if you don't want to speak up at the table. The texture contrast between the filling, chewy exterior, and lettuce shell was fantastic. It was so flavorful and has a bit of a spice kick to it. -- The Mango Fish entree was packed with flavor, and is a very umami-forward dish. The piece of crispy salmon skin on the side is perfectly crunchy and salty. It's a filet of salmon (not a whole fish) and the salmon is nice and buttery. -- The Duck Fried Rice entree had good flavor but the duck meat was dry. The presentation on my cocktail (a tonic with vodka and buddha hand fruit) was very pretty. Service was thoughtful and quick. The restaurant itself was beautiful and open and airy -- I almost felt like I wasn't in Minneapolis anymore. We went on a Tuesday, and only drawback I'd say is that the noise level can be a little bit loud due to the acoustics and how the room is one giant space. Service staff was as expected for a busy day and we kept getting the wrong items sent out but they were nice and apologetic, it was just a busy day and had newer staff. Parking is limited, be sure to pay attention to where you're parking since certain spots are meant for businesses nearby. They have patio seating but I don't know if they actually provide food service outside. Bathrooms are currently out of service so they have two port-o-potties outside. It's a nice space and gets lots of natural sunlight, I do wish they had some tint or blinds though because we were seated next to a window and it was a bit blinding especially with the sun reflecting off the metal cups and laminated menus. I've heard great things about their food but for me it was a miss. We all had pho but the amount of herbs and fresh toppings wasn't sufficient for 6 phos. They were accommodating and gave us additional items we asked for. The calamari was on the greasier end and was bigger than expected. For my palate both the banh mi and pho were lacking in flavor. I put a lot of things into my pho but it just didn't taste like anything to me except for pho powder. The ribeye pho had a generous portion of broth but only like 5 slices of meat. The oxtail stone bowl pho one looked hot and didn't have enough space to add everything in without it overflowing while the other didn't look like the broth was hot enough to cook the noodles. I will say though their ordered drink cups and to-go containers game was top notch. I received a reusable bag with my two banh mis to go instead of a plastic bag.
