This has quickly become one of my new favorite Asian restaurants in the Twin Cities. I initially discovered them through a collaboration on Instagram, but have been back many times as a paying customer. The owners, Mary and Tenzin, are the absolute best and sweetest people and business owners that you will ever meet! Hospitality through the roof. This spot is a new gem to me, it's quite small inside, but don't let it fool you, because the flavors are insane here. This is not one of those restaurants that caters to the MN pallet, if you know you know. I've really been on the search for extremely flavorful, ethnic restaurants, and this is absolutely one. Had not been in here for a long time - my bad! They used to have mango rice. Which was unbelievably good. They did not have that anymore, but they did have their spring rolls with their peanut sauce. I'm vegan so I appreciate any place that offers vegan. Oh my goodness they are so tasty. I tried the pad thai. It's ok but not great. Portion size was fine but you probably won't have leftovers. It was a little salty, and I agree with some google reviews that said the restaurant relies too much on salt, rather than building up a good flavor. The rice noodles were soaked in some brown sauce which was ok, but I've had much better pad thais. I've made much better pad thai myself. I lived on the west coast for many years where there's great Thai food, and could be spoiled by that. Their picture on their menu shows bean sprouts, carrots, cilantro, and peanuts with the pad thai - none of those were included. No lime was included (which is usually served with pad thai); luckily I had one at home. All there was was a little green onion. There was also very little egg in it; usually it has more egg. They took my order fairly quickly and were polite. I also waited 40 minute for my order; I've never waited that long at other restaurants for a simple pad thai to go. They were definitely understaffed - it may be that the kitchen is so small they can't fit more people in, or maybe, someone didn't show up or they can't find staff. For a local to-go restaurant for the neighborhood, it might be an ok option. But I drove from Bloomington, and it really wasn't worth the drive. If this had been a regular restaurant with more seating and higher prices, I probably would have given it 3 stars. I want them to succeed; I've also had great Laotian food on the west coast. It would be great if they upped their game a little, although my expectations might be a little high for such a tiny place. :) There's not a lot of seating (didn't factor into my rating); all the tables seat two people, and there's only one table on the far end where you might be able to squeeze a third person in without blocking the narrow aisle between the door and the counter. read more

I found this restaurant while planning a visit near Lake Nokomis and Lake Hiawatha. I walked here from the lakes and ordered the beef drunken kao piak, which I had never tried before--and it was good! It's a stir-fried udon dish with vegetables and beef, and it was very flavorful. The portion size was reasonable for the price. I did look over the menu's meat options and didn't see duck listed, which surprised me given the restaurant's name. One downside is that the restaurant is quite small and can probably seat only about 10 people. That said, I appreciated how conveniently located it is near the Metro Blue Line train station, which made it easy for me to head to my next destination. read more

Three cheers for Asian Duck Cafe! We're so happy this spot opened up in our neighborhood. We've been here twice now and am happy to say my second experience was even better than my first! We ordered the Nam khao - one of our new favorite dishes! Crispy pieces of meat with flavorful fried rice. It's a big plate for the cost too Also ordered kaopiek San - a cozy bowl of soup with thick noodles. Super comforting on a cold day. I will be ordering this again very soon as a reward for all the dang shoveling of snow! Service was quick and foot was fresh. We liked the food! Parking is a little tricky but we live in the neighborhood. We ordered ahead and picked up. Nice and easy online ordering system. We ordered medium fried rice and it was pretty spicy for us! Flavor was good and it had a good sauce but too spicy for us. It is only 2 chili peppers. Dumplings are 10/10. They are juicy, flavorful and have a thicker wrapper. The pho broth was good. Not sweet and had a beefy flavor. The meat came par cooked but surprisingly tender. The take out didn't come with jalapeño or a hoisin/ sriracha packet, which was a little disappointing. Try it out if you are in the neighborhood! read more

I went for a dine in experience and had the Kaopoon and my friend had Pho Meatball. The ordering was simple and the staff/owner was very patient, kind and sweet. There is limited seating inside but it wasn't a problem for the time we went. There was an even flow of dine in and take out orders being handled. The food came out very quick and the broth was a nice blend for the curry and the chicken was soft. I smoked the pho broth and it had a nice balance as well. There are condiments provided at the table to add more spice and other flavors as you wish. Would recommend stopping by and I look forward to trying more items in the future! read more

been wanting to check this place out since i saw someone review it on instagram. my goodness did it live up to the hype. this place is SO DELICIOUS. the restaurant itself is pretty small with only one true table. other seating include countertop seating facing towards the windows. it's an order at the front and they'll bring it out to you kinda place. they have a paper menu with their staples but if you look up onto the chalk board, they have a TON of different things that aren't listed on the menu. i got the drunken khaopiak and it was basically drunken noodles with a tapioca noodle instead of the flat rice ones. SO GOOD. the noodles were so saucy and i got medium spice. i think the spice level was perfect. i added some of their chili crunch and it was a game changer. i will say tho the dish was a bit on the salty side but nevertheless still banging. i actually can't wait to come back and try their entire menu. the people who own this place are SO nice and they care so much about their food it's awesome! This is a must-try! We ordered this for lunch today for pick-up, and immediately, we decided we wanted to go back. They have a broad menu, but not too big, so there is something for everyone in your party. Second, every bite was so good. We tried the cranberry cream cheese wontons, pork dumplings, pad Thai, and Lao sausage sandwich. The bread was great and held up to the sandwich. All of the meat from each dish was seasoned so great. The mild was a little spicy for those who do not like spice, but if you like spice, it is a great level to go up from. Next, we are waiting to try the curry and pho, but want to be in person for those. And the cranberry cream cheese bites are a good dessert option if you want something sweet! The service was great. Online ordering was easy, and the item was ready to pick up when we arrived. The staff was also very friendly. This place is small, so if you have a big group, plan to take out. This review is just for the banh mi sandwiches & spring rolls. Everything I tried was just ok. I ordered the chicken banh mi & beef ones. The chicken banh mi was far better. The meat is covered in a flavorful sauce and you get a small tub of it for takeout, which came in handy for dipping at home. Two things would have made the banh mi better. First would be smaller thinner slices of jalapeño (not the giant long chunk). Second would be adding pickled daikon & carrots in the sandwich. It was basically just meat, jalapeño & cilantro. Bun was decent though. Spring roll was sad. Tiny shrimp & lettuce & carrot. Barely any flavor even with their nuoc cham (fish sauce). Protip is to use the chicken banh mi sauce to add to the spring rolls for flavor. It was easy to order online but it took awhile for a message from the restaurant to confirm the order. I ended up calling them to be sure. The person I talked too & picked up order groom was very friendly & welcoming so props for that. Been here 3/4 times now. Really good Banh Mi sandwiches, excellent fried rice, and interesting cranberry cream cheese wontons. Large portions, watch out for big slices of jalapeño peppers in the sandwiches, they carry some heat. Not sure if they make the bread or purchase it from a good baker. Perfect texture for a Banh Mi sandwich. read more

Food: Excellent, I had the red curry with chicken. Best curry I've had in ages. I also had the shrimp spring rolls. They were OK, but not as good as the curry. Service: The staff were very helpful in describing the dishes and were quite friendly. Ambiance: The restaurant is tiny. Just a few seats along a counter along the window. This place is a gem. On our plates/bowls today were dumplings, papaya salad, pad Thai, and yellow curry. We ordered the dumplings pan-fried, and they were perfect. The papaya salad - a dish I'm particularly picky about - was as fresh as could be and had a citrusy sparkle about it that complemented the crunch of the papaya so well. The yellow curry (tofu) and white rice did not disappoint, and the pad Thai (chicken) was - as my husband would say - gorgeous. The portions were generous and the service great. I couldn't reach by phone as they were having problems and had just switched service to a different carrier service and was not getting service yet but please try again soon so i painlessly ordered on line which is what I normally do anyway. i will be very unhappy if they have closed up permanently. they are close by and everything we've tried has been delicious!! read more

This was such a nice little find. Almost nothing good happens on next door, but this was one time somebody suggested something that actually was worth the trip. It is right by my house and I just hadn't noticed it before because it's at the bottom of an apartment complex across the street from the liquor store, but it's really cute inside. Very clean and trendy. Not much seating though. More of a take away spot! Anyways, coming in the owner, I assume was taking orders and she was extremely kind and friendly to everyone coming in leaving and answering the phone. Right off the bat I knew that was a good sign mixed with the extremely good smell of cooking. I got both the fried rice and the wontons and both were incredible. Overall, I wish the wontons came with the dipping sauce. She gave me extra, but whatever the sauce was was like a sweet chili dipping sauce and was also incredible. Definitely stop in! read more

Mary, the owner and chef, was so outgoing and happy with the reception the restaurant has received in this neighborhood. It's small, a few counter seats so primarily a take out place. Pretty small menu but makes it easier to try other dishes, which I will do soon. I had the cranberry wontons and the curry fried rice. The chicken was tender and the spice (medium) was perfect.
