This is an Okemos institution- it's been here since the 90s and has grown with the times. The renovated space is quite tasteful, and their expanded selection is all excellent. Their old standbys are all there: General Tsos, meatloaf, (excellent but very unhealthy) sweet & sour chicken, weird chicken roll-up things, etc. But they've added a sushi bar, which with the possible exception of Hibachi Buffet in West Lansing is the best in the city. Very fresh and a nice variety. They also have bulgogi beef on their dinner buffet, which is also great. The hibachi is pretty standard, so if that's your thing, it's there. They recently opened a bar next door, and you can now also order drinks with your meal. So if you want a classy glass of wine to go with your heaping pile of buffet food, they've got you covered! Having become something of a connoisseur of buffets of late, this ranks in the top tier. It isn't as extensive a selection as some big-city buffets (especially in the south, which seems to be the holy land of the asian buffet), but the food is always hot and fresh, I've never gotten the least bit ill from anything I've had there, the service is fantastic but unobtrusive, the owners are always there (as they have been since the 90s) and take a lot of pride in their business, and they have a lot of vegetarian options for my wife. The chef is talented and very experienced. We're very glad we discovered the Asian Buffet. There is a huge selection and everyone in our family has some favorites. I'm always happy with items containing seafood, vegetables and little oil and there's a delicious dish with shrimp, sealegs, zucchini and water chestnuts. The egg foo young is exceptionally good. There are several pork and chicken dishes of different cuisines. The sushi, dumplings, and other appetizer items are always fresh and really good. Asian Buffet is buffet all the time, unlike many other Chinese restaurants that only have a lunch buffet. I'm not much of a buffet person, but I do enjoy Asian Buffet because of the variety of foods to try. The items on the buffet are fairly standard American version Chinese food. The food is fresh. I have gone later in the evening and the owner/manager will come out of the kitchen to ask if there is anything specific I want and make it fresh if the buffet is getting low. This is the quintessential Chinese food buffet. I've been going here for at least 10 years, and since moving out of state, I make it a habit of coming back here to eat every time I visit mid-Michigan. It's Chinese fast food, not gourmet cuisine, but that's kind of the point, right? They've recently expanded and renovated and it looks great inside, but the real pull is the all-you-can eat greasy, saucy, salty Chinese favorites. Obviously one of the perks of the buffet is that you can load up on sides. The crab rangoons (light on crab but sooooo creamy and crispy) and spring rolls are my personal favorites. I ate nine crab rangoons here yesterday. Nine! They've added a grill and more sushi options but to be honest I just stick to the precooked hot stuff. The sushi is like what you'd pick up at the grocery store, not worth the valuable stomach space. Lunch prices are a really great value as long as your afternoon schedule is light. As with any buffet you want to avoid the limbo between lunch and dinner when freshness, not just the origin of the meat, is questionable. This is my favorite Chinese buffet, and I compare every new one I visit to this one. So far none have surpassed it. So take the afternoon off (and some pepto if you want to be proactive), drop $8 for lunch, and enjoy all your favorite grease bombs. read more

Asian Buffet was recently renovated and it looks great inside. Everything is clean and bright and it is very spacious now. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The price is awesome for all the food you get- it is so affordable. The food is regular Chinese take-out, and they also have a sushi buffet which is included in the price. The sushi is a great addition. My husband loved the Thai chicken, I love their seafood choices, and my daughter at a ton of sushi and seaweed salad. I was halfheartedly welcomed - no big deal. Then I was shown to my table which was right in the middle of the restaurant ... Not satisfactory. But the actual problem with my visit was that the food had obviously been sitting out for a while. Most of it was almost gone (some completely) and other items hardly seemed warm at all. This is when it hit me - it was 9pm ... Was the buffet closing soon? Sure enough, I looked it up on my phone and the restaurant closes at 9:30 on weekdays. I wasn't told, but it was obvious after I was given a cold shoulder. They brought me my bill at 9:20 and 5 mins later I was asked if I was ready to pay ... Seriously? I was almost done with my second plate of food by then, but still. I was the second last person to leave - their clock read 9:30 but it was 2 mins fast. Miraculously, I had had enough to eat in less than 30mins, and the food was pretty good aside from the fact that it was getting cold. Never ever go back again. I was in about 9pm and thought they was closing for the day. There was no foods as i walk around the counters. The lady which i think the owner was all anout money thay she hurry the customer in and later says that dish is making and coming out soon, but as long as i stay there never see a new dish coming out. I come here for lunch often, and would say I enjoy the Asian Buffet probably 90% of the time. It can be hit or miss. When the food is fresh, it's terrific. They have the best crab rangoons I have ever tasted. I also love their wontons. However, it's not always hot. The manager will make you fresh if you ask for it, but I like my food to be hot when I eat it the first time. One of my complaints may just be me, but I have severe asthma and sometimes when I go in here, the owner has incense burning and I cannot enjoy my meal without puffing on my inhaler nonstop. When I go into a restaurant, I want to smell the food, not incense. I think the price is very fair for all of the food that you get. Overall, I am definitely a fan. read more

This is by far the worst Asian food I've ever had. All of the items were greasy and some even slimy. Me and my family love sushi and had high expectations for a sushi buffet. However, when we got there the server told us the sushi worker "wasn't working today." Speaking of the service, the servers stared at my party as we ate and made us feel very uncomfortable. Your typical Asian buffet with all sorts of fried goodies, loads of carbs like noodles and fried rice, and of course, that weird dish you can't really identify. The Asian Buffet in Okemos is a nice place to go if you are hungry and into the whole buffet scene. At only $8 for the lunch buffet including a beverage, it's quite the deal if you make sure to eat by the bucket-load and leave completely stuffed out of your mind. They have the typical Asian cuisine. I thoroughly enjoyed the Baked Crab dish. So0o0o yummy. The egg rolls were disappointing in that they left a weird pork after taste in your mouth. However, the fried Spring Rolls remedied the egg roll mishap. I recommend the Fried Spring Rolls dipped in Sweet and Sour sauce. The macaroni and cheese should have been left for professional macaroni makers... it definitely needed more cheese, more lovin' or something to make it taste better. I loved the cooked veggies... carrots, green beans, mushrooms, snap peas, potatoes, etc. For dessert, I had a bite or two of the rice cookies which are amazing. Overall, I would go again. The boss of Asian buffet is very very mean. The first time my boyfriend went there to eat, he ate a lot but no waste at all. When he went to check out, the boss said to him:" I will not let you in again." This is a nice Chinese buffet that serves all of your favorite staples with an added sushi bar and hibachi grill. I personally loved the Korean beef and lo mein. The coconut chicken was good. The wonton soup was good. The sushi was ok. The service was a little slow and I never got a refill on my empty water glass, but I thought the price was reasonable and the restaurant was clean. Over my lifetime of travels all over the world (and the USA), and hunting for the best value in towns where I have lived -this ranks right up there! As I explained to my friends whom I have introduced to this place, it meets the straight criteria I have: (1) decent price (2) lots of choices (3) quantity is never an issue (4) quality levels are decent. Therefore it definitely exceeds the final judgment - best value for money. They have several choices for soups (e.g. egg drop, hot & sour, wonton) but they also include miso! They appetizer choices are plenty - as well as the vegetarian among us, but I was happy to see they go beyond and offer a bit of innovation such as the sweet Hawaiian chicken roll. This told me that the owner or chef thinks a little bit on the outside, so it could get better. All the standard choices are there, including General Tso, Low Mein, fried rice, green beans, roasted potatoes, seafood stuff, but I liked that they offer Malaysian spicy chicken, which tends to be on the hotter side, due to the gigantic jalapeno slices thrown it. Not to be out-down, they also offer limited but good selections of sushi, which I selectively choose, but I do love mixing the wasabi with the pink pickled ginger and soy to make a nice dipping for just about anything. They have a nice hibachi grill, which I have to compliment the chef-attendant,he does one of the best jobs, slicing and dicing it minutely, making sure it is well cooked, wastes very little. Tip him or ring the bell to indicate your appreciation. They have a decent salad bar, which also doubles for serving the hot sauces as well, which i usually dole out myself a generous helping. Lest I forget, the dessert is equally plentiful - tons of fruits, ice cream and of course the little cookies or sweet assortments. Very family friendly, service is quick, they whisk away the empty/used plates and plenty of seating, a TV to keep up with events (it is located only in a spot or two, so it is not disturbing to other diners). Really good buffet food! Great value. Good and friendly service. Everything was fresh and the staff was working hard to keep the buffet fully stocked and clean. Our server was quick to remove empty plates and refill water. Nice addition to the usual Chinese buffet = sushi bar and grill. I come here often. The reason why is because of their selection from kalbi, sushi, dim sum and other chinese cuisine. HOWEVER, I am disappointed because EVERYTIME I do come most of their trays are empty and they are never refilled/stocked. You have to keep bugging the older asian lady there to refill it. That bothers me to some extent because I feel that if you're a buffet, all your available selections should be stocked for all your guests (since it is all you can eat). Simple stuff like crab ragoons were never refilled. I think they avoid refilling their trays to avoid costs incase nobody wants to eat them. After my cousin graduated from MSU, our family decided to go out to a buffet that would be close and a place that has good reviews. This place was amazing for an after party for a graduation because the service was nice, the food was always hot, and it wasn't one of those dirty buffets that leaves the food cold and rotten. The people were extremely nice. There is also a hibachi and it was pretty good actually, I got what I wanted and it was great. By far the best Chinese buffet restaurant that I have ever had the pleasure to dine at. The recent renovations are very impressive, and actually rather exciting to me because, having moved away from the state, one of my "must-do's" when returning home to Michigan is to make sure that I eat here. If they don't have it on the buffet, then you probably won't find it at any other buffet. The food is never left on the buffet too long, thanks to the great customer base and wonderful cooking. Yes, this food not only looks good, it tastes good. Love the sushi bar and, with the renovation, the addition of the mongolian grill and hard ice cream instead of soft. What used to be a great buffet is now the absolute worse Chinese buffet in the Lansing area. The food was all cold. Where is the Health Department? I'm calling them tomorrow.
