Just went here for dinner, have several points of complete disappointment. I genuinely think the good reviews on here are fake. There were several tables that came after us that were seated, ordered, served, and ate before we even got out food. The owners seem to favour some people over completely ignoring others. : Food: 1. Chicken tikka was ONE piece, shriveled up and dark black and burnt 2. Biryani had two botis, complete dry no masala at all 3. Nihari was just OK (for the wait, which was one hour you'd be home and happy if you just went to Aga's) - and HA it was $19.99 4. $2 a samosa FOR JUST ONE MINI samosa ($6 for three) Service: While no one was rude, there was just complete apathy , not a single person cared that we'd sat at our table for 20 mins waiting to order. Our food took a full HOUR AND TEN minutes to get to our table - apparently one chicken drumstick took one hour to grill.... The waitress literally brought a burnt naan to our table, while at the same time apologizing for how it's burnt and she'll bring us another one, we didn't get it untill after we were done eating. We were suspiciously overcharged and apologized to when pointed it out. Please save your money and go anywhere else. read more

We came here for the infamous Wednesday night nihari buffet! When we arrived, we were met with a line that was literally out the door. We got there around 6:30 and didn't get seated until 7:45ish. After trying the food, though, the wait did seem worth it. The paaye nihari was amazing, probably the best I've ever had. The nalli nihari was also really delicious. The quality of the meat was excellent, and the food was actually spicy. Overall we had a great experience! Apart from Nihari I would not recommend having anything else. Last time Nihari was mostly curry and almost no meat in it. I also ordered nalli Nihari and asked them to put nalli in the Nihari but they brought it as a side. Servings of kababs and biryani are extremely small. What a wonderful experience. I had never had nihari so I wasn't sure what to expect. But it was one of the best meals I've had in a while. I tried both the beef and lamb shank nihari. Both were very complex and very spicy. Im not sure if you can choose a spice level or it's a standard level, but it sure has a kick! I enjoyed the marrow added as well. I also tried brain which was very similar to marrow, IMO. The kebab was my absolute favorite! I loved the flavors it was strong and very good. The naan is so delicious for dipping in nihari. One of the better naans I have tried. Don't skip the mango lassi. It's very good and helps with the spice. Will come back when I get a craving for this type of food. Had to give a review .after a long log. Went to hillcroft for some beauty session next door abs with the intention to eat some kadai . But wll I can say I really enjoyed eating desi #halalfood Ashar's Kitchen. This is their hillcroft location! Clean tastefully decorated place , awesome flavors , great portions , seriously Texas size portions and amazing flavors My picky teen loved the Seekh kabobs , the naan and the mango lassi . The awesome flavored seekh kabobs were a perfection , serve on a bed of red onions and generous fresh salad . Their green chutney is outstanding . I ordered a lamb shank nihari perfectly served with with fresh ginger green peppers abs lemon wedges. The lassi serving was humongous for 4.99! We were treated very well by the owners and overall they are very hospitable. Please give them a try this place they won't disappoint . I wanted to give a Yelp review but couldn't find the hillcroft location business on Yelp . I will indeed return and try other items on the menu. I have been here multiple times but it must have always been on a weekday because last Sunday I walked in expecting the usual but instead discovered their Sunday Brunch Buffet. I almost walked back out because buffets are usually not for me but the food looked so good that my family couldn't resist. I am very glad that we decided to stay and try it. This was the BEST buffet experience I have ever had. The food was fresh and only good items were included, no fillers. They had nihari, paya, kaleji, dhaga kabab, fried chicken, chicken tikka, biryani, aloo cholay, halwa, puri, naan, chai, and more. Everything was delicious which is rarely ever the case at a buffet. My parents and I agreed that the kaleji was our favorite, and I usually don't eat kaleji. We couldn't get enough of it, it was cooked to perfection with so many amazing spices and flavor! Honestly not one item was mediocre. Everything was scrumptious! To top it all off, the service was even better than the food. They kept coming to our table to make sure we were satisfied and our waitress, Beena, would update us every time they put something fresh on the buffet table so we could get fresh helpings as soon as it came out. I think she probably came to our table 20+ times during the meal. We never had to flag down a waiter. On the contrary, we felt extremely pampered. Our table was constantly cleaned and dirty dishes taken away before we even asked. Waiters kept coming to give us fresh naan and puri and taking order for chai. I have always enjoyed Ashar's food; we usually go on Mondays for their amazing bihari rolls which are to die for! But Beena's service really made this particular dining experience 5 stars worthy. My family and I love this restaurant but we were extremely disappointed in our recent visit. The nihari was being served as a buffet, however we wanted to dine in and order. They would not give the nihari as an order and told us we would each have to get a buffet plate. We told them we did not want to as we had young kids and a baby with us and it would be inconvenient for us to have to do buffet when we could just order. We ended up leaving without ordering anything as the staff was just plain rude about it when we asked if we can just order in. So can't talk about service. We had Beef Dhaga Kabab and Nihari with Naan. Both the main courses were good. Nihari a little better than Dhaga kabab. That's not to say Daga Kabab wasn't good, its just that Nihari was better. Could barely walk after dinner but still had to get some Faluda and Gola Ganda from Next door at Agha Juice. Food is good but calling to place an order is like calling Pakistan in the late 90s. They can't hear shit.

I got invited to go here and was told it was reservation only. I had never heard about it so honestly went here for the experience....boy was I pleasantly surprised. This place was packed when we got here at 7pm. The have a table setup for you outside to check you in. Once you are allowed in with your party you get to go to work on the buffet line so pickup that silver bowl and start getting to work. There is a technique, which I'm unwilling to share on how to scoop out the Nihari. So fend for yourself when you are getting it because all you get is the serving spoon this time around. Once you have your Nihari in bowl you can add some of the sides they have at the end of the runway and they will bring you the warm / fresh pita bread by the handful and fill up your table's bread basket. Now rinse your palate and repeat with the 7 different flavors they have. Once you have this experience under your belt you will thank me for it, but keep in mind your stomach may not as the food is spicy and one of the sides is fresh jalapeños to add more spice. Once you are done with your buffet you can wash it down with some Lassi or tea, but I say why not both. The Lassi will help coat the inside of your stomach and prevent the tossing and turning your body may go through otherwise. After the Lassi grab some chai and Goolab Jamun for a tasty dessert. They also have a magic red cauldron filled with something else that is awesome. I think it was rice pudding but did not manage to look inside. Again this place is an experience and only happens Wednesday nights during the week, but maybe on the weekend too. read more

We order our food, they didn't have mango lassi- was it just not available or they ran out? No idea. My daughter ordered chicken tenders and they come back and tell me they don't have that either so we ended up getting chicken nuggets with fries. While waiting for our food my daughter wanted to use the restroom and wash her hands, guess what surprise?! It was not working/out of order. We were told to go next door to use the restroom. We were seated and then seen the servers scrambling to see who will help us... finally after 15-17 minutes later we got someone to help us.... took another 8 minutes to bring us our soft drinks and they brought room temp water in a steel pitcher. So we sat back down hoping the food would compensate for the poor service and not using the AC While sitting we seen other families come order and leave I asked the waiter what was up.. he said oh next time just call in and order then come dine in... that's what most people do. The bathrooms were disgusting.... too The Nihari did in fact have an OK taste but it only came with two pieces of meat.... which would of been ok but they were small..... super small. Now we are sitting back and just laughing at this mess and the servers actually think it's OK to take this food from the kitchen? They took forever to bring naan..... some of the naan was burnt... We just ate with spoons and mixed the Nihari sauce with the awfully cooked Biryani. Asked for lemon and ginger...... never received that Worst $90 ever spent. It's sad the owners run a business like this. Hopefully they can change their bad habits and actually care or else I'd be happy to see their doors shut down and would love to see another pakistani Indian restaurant in their place. I don't even know why I came here when I could have gone elsewhere, had my food prepped, been home, and have eaten by now. I've been waiting for 30 plus minutes for just a roll and malai chicken. They burned the malai chicken, so they're now making another one. When you work a 13 hr shift, tolerance goes down, but 45 mins for just a roll and a chicken plate that has ONLY chicken?!!!!! It's insane. I see why they have awful reviews. Customer service sucks. No one would tell me how much longer it would take until I basically said I wanted to cancel my malai chicken and take only the roll. Of course they wouldn't let me because brown people just hate to give refunds. Now here I am, stuck waiting for the food. read more

I simply cannot comment on the interior of this restaurant.. nor on their service. Ashar's Kitchen seems to be the place to grab and go food.. perfect for take-away. Judging by the pictures.. the interior seems a bit drab and sticky. My mother picked up food from here yesterday as its not too far away from us and we were craving biryani... specifically the beef variation. We placed an order via the phone for beef biryani as well as beef nihari and plain naan. The container that was consisting of the biryani was filled to the brim and was loaded with beef and lots of spices. Personally, I found the biryani to be quite spicy for my liking. I did like the flavor of the rice and the ample amounts of tender stew like beef. The biryani had a very home-made flavour and I was able to handle the overall spices. But I would have liked the heat levels to be a bit restrained. Word has it that Ashar's Kitchen is well known for their nihari... but unfortunately the flavor of the nihari fell flat. We couldn't taste the aromatic flavors that typically comes to mind with this famous dish. (ie: fennel, cinnamon, star anise). If anything.. the nihari had quite a red color to it.. and had a tomato like taste. That's an unusual flavor profile for nihari and it took away the authenticity of the dish. Seems as if they cheated this dish for its own good. Other than that, the sauce had a nice consistency and the beef used in the nihari was very tender and soft. The overall dish was too oily for my liking and I wouldn't order it again. Naan was plain and simple.. just as it should be. Would I ever eat inside this establishment? Probably not. Wouldn't mind take-away again. A bit curious to try a few other items from the menu. Such as the grilled meats and kebabs. Don't mind giving it another go. They should totally work on their nihari recipe. Overall decent food but a bit heavy on the heat and spices. read more

I generally hate leaving bad reviews, but we noticed a cockroach crawling around the table we were eating on as we were leaving. This is not acceptable. Around two years ago my sister and I remember noticing nests of other bugs gathering on their ceiling corners we returned after a long while noticing they had taken care of it, but it seems they still haven't taken action. This place needs to be inspected ASAP. This is very dangerous and the restaurant conditions are major health violations, I'm definitely contacting the appropriate authorities after writing this review. Additional note: the owner was present when we noticed the cockroach and notified an employee who was also rather lax about this whole situation.
