Not only did the owners open up and invite me to sit down and eat, when their dining room was closed and doing to go only orders, they gained a customer for life. This place is 10/10. It's a small, family owned shop & you can tell how much love & care they put into their food. Their naans are piping hot from their tandoor, their biryani, chicken charga, you name it. I haven't had something from here that has ever been bad. My personal favorite is their chicken kofte. Removing a star because the curries are more watered down now and the quantity is less. Its only one star because i like the owner and i know he's been hit hard by vandals damaging his property and the inflation everyone is facing. The food is still very good, but it just doesnt taste the same as watery as it is and theres less of it to enjoy. Yum. Due to the quarantine I've been experimenting with restaurants on Grub Hub. This is one restaurant that I believe offered either a $5.00 coupon perk or free delivery. I got the chicken biryani and was pleasantly surprised. Not only was it extremely tasty but it came with a side salad and plenty of sauces. The portion was HUGE. For $8.99 I got enough food for 3 Meals. They were also very generous with the pieces of meat. Overall, will be ordering from here again. read more

When it comes to Pakistani food, I'm a picky guy. You either got it or you don't. Staying in the Mission Bend area, theres quite a selection of Indo-Pak options. Lately what I've been seeing is the quality going down or not being worth the price. Desi Kitchen is an exception. The food--at least what I tried--was delicious and the price wasn't too bad either. Desi Kitchen is a hole in the wall and doesnt stand out in a strip mall that has a day care center and Message parlor. If you're driving down HWY 6 you'd probably miss it. The place is a dive and doesn't look very dine-in friendly. When I went in, the place was empty. That's cause the majority of desi's order takeout anyways and eat at home. I decided to do the same. I ordered the goat biryani, the butter chicken and two naans. Price came to about 19 bucks. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The Biryani was flavorful and unlike some restaurants, they didn't skim on the meat. There were several big tender meaty pieces of goat meat mixed in. The butter chicken was also flavorful and the naans were warm and fluffy. I'd definitely try the place again and see how their other offerings are. This may be my regular desi takeout spot. Kind of hidden in a shopping center is a restaurant with good food, good service, and a comfortable - if no frills - atmosphere. This is not a place for ambiance and mood setting, but it feels like home and the food is a bit more nuanced than the big-batch you'll see at other Indo-Pak restaurants. Had the chicken qorma, and the chicken biriyani, and both were wonderful. The biriyani stood out to my girlfriend, while I was a big fan of the qorma. Will try more stuff on the menu, but this is a GREAT first impression! :) read more

He always experiments with different dishes. My husband is Caucasian American and vegetarian. After eating Desi Kitchen, he refuses to go to any other Indian or Pakistani restaurant. Chef' dal(mixed lentils curry) is like nothing else we have ever had. Our favorites are dal, aloo palak(spinach & potatoes), okra curry, bitter melon curry, and rice pilaf with peas. My personal favorite is Malai chicken boti/kabob. I can't eat anywhere else after eating this dish here. read more

I am not Pakistani and since my area doesn't have a lot of Indian/Pakistani food, I'm not even sure if I'm a very good judge of authenticity or even if its better than its competition. But I do know that we liked what we got. We were shopping for cars in the area and the dealer had a car coming in that we wanted to check out. Unfortunately the car didn't turn out to be anything special, but this restaurant was worth the visit while we waited. We got the Mutton Masala and the Chicken Biryani and a Mango Lassi and some Bread. The Naan Bread was definitely the most exemplary of the bunch, but everything was actually very well cooked and we heartily enjoyed them all. I'll warn you that this is a bare bones place, tables chairs and four walls (and a flat screen tv). It is clean, but its not someplace you'd take a date. But it sure is a place to get some good food if you're in the area. I live all the way in the Montrose area and we still don't got a car so I doubt we will be swinging by anytime soon, but if I ever end up near Hwy 6 and Bellaire, I'd eat there again for sure. read more

What can I say about this place? It may be a hole in the wall, but the food will take you back to the aromatic streets of South Asia. Whether you like Indian food or not, you HAVE to give this place a try. Their specials are biryani and the classic South Asian BBQ. Of course, those aren't the only things to try. They have TONS of food that I had never heard of and it was all delicious. So I keep going back! I'm a carnivore but I gotta say, this place also makes me want to be vegetarian. We went to this place on Saturday. The place was empty! We ordered Dal Tadka, Bhindi and Nan. The nan were fresh but both the Dal and bhindi were stale. All they did was to warm up both and brought out to our table. The worst food we had in our month in Texas.Stay away from this place. The parking lot was dirty too! read more

Decent Pakistani food. They are super cheap and you get large portions. It is spicy. More spicy than Indian food. I get the biryani and tandoori chicken. Naan is fresh and fluffy. Raita and chutney are just right. read more

Quality is clearly very valuable to them as I've gone so many times and never have I been disappointed! I have been frequenting this place for almost 6 months now. The haleem, dal gosht and naan are the great here. Food is extremely reasonable, generous servings and tasty (no stomach issues). This is simply the worst place I have visited. The order was placed incorrectly after repeated requests and the food that was given felt like it was stale. Chicken tasted like rubber and the whole experience was awful. If you walk in this place it smells of Lysol and there is no wait staff and just a terrible overall experience. read more

I have not had a whole lot of Indo/Paki food in my life but from what I have had I can say that Desi has the best out there hands down! Like the previous review I am neither Indian nor Pakistani but when me and my wife walked in there we were never made to feel uncomfortable. In truth we were made to feel right at home and the gentleman at the counter could not have been any more helpful when it came to our order, even making several suggestions and throwing in a extra small portion for us to try for free. Everything had fantastic flavor. We had the Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Boti, Matar Pulao, Bhindi, Plain Naan and Qulcha Naan (there was more than just me and my wife eating FYI) and everything we had was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. I do not think I can recommend one dish over because everyone was outstanding. If you are a fan of this type of food or someone that has always wanted to give it a try head on out to Desi Kitchen. They'll make you feel comfortable and take care of you like you are a regular and their prices are great to boot. read more

I am from out of town and with all the great reviews we thought we'd check out the place for dinner. When we got there we saw 2 men sitting at a table. So we went up to the counter and rang the bell. We could hear some rattling in the back of pots and pans, but no answer. We rang the bell once again and still no answer. Looking behind the counter, it looked very unclean. Wonder what the kitchen looked like? After waiting for some time, we decided that maybe they did not need any customers and left for Savoy! Great decision! Their loss!!! read more
