In Taiwanese, "Asha" means "someone that enjoys life." One of the store's greatest hopes is that drinking what they put out will remind you of everything you enjoy about life. When people ask me, "Where do you recommend for drinks in Berkeley?" I always say Asha!! I've had my fair share of tea/drinks/boba, and hands down, this place has some of the greatest, most quality tea you'll find
NOTE: The boba isn't ready until 45 minutes after opening!! The boba itself is pretty good--sweet and chewy. But if you like it on the SUPER sweet side, this might not be your top choice. The grass jelly here is pretty good too!!
I've been here so many times and had SO MANY of their drinks and seasonal selections, but a few have really stood out:
- Blood orange oolong iced tea: This is a seasonal drink, and I believe it shows up around the end of January. I like getting all of my drinks with no sweetener so I can really appreciate the taste for what it is. Blood orange is one of my favorite fruits, and when it's in season, I buy it wherever I see it!! The oolong and blood orange complement each other really well. I find that the oolong here has a really smooth, naturally kinda sweet taste
- Mango green iced tea: AHHH the mango purée is so good!! This drink tastes like...childhood. I'm a sucker for anything mango, and if you are too, GET THIS DRINK WHEN YOU SEE IT!!
- Iced matcha latte with almond milk: The matcha latte is the classic and basically the most Instagrammed thing here!! I especially like getting this with no sweetener because I'm a huge fan of that bold, bitter (in a good way) taste. At a lot of places, the almond milk overpowers the matcha taste, but I didn't feel that way here
- Iced matcha fresca with strawberry purée: The matcha and the strawberry complement each other really well!! The strawberry is sweet enough that the drink can stand alone with 0% sugar
- Mochi muffin: YESSS another East Bay vendor of the Third Culture Bakery mochi muffin!! This was the first place I had it, and I fell in love immediately!! It has the most scrumptious, divine, delectable, sweet flavor with a perfectly moist, chewy center for a familiar taste that you can't quite distinguish. If you see that they have some in the mini display case, GET ONE. They go fast
They used to have regular unlimited free wifi, but then they changed it to 2 hours with receipt (you could sometimes connect to xfinity hotspot/McDonald's wifi/Tender Greens wifi if you were lucky), and then they changed it back to the regular wifi, but I went kinda recently when they made the switch, and it was REALLY slow/not connecting...not sure if it's still like that. I used to study here all the time, but unfortunately, I kinda stopped frequenting this place after the wifi situation changed :( but I'll still come grab a drink and go elsewhere! They have a few power outlets, as well as a few different types of seating, but the place does fill up kinda quickly sometimes. So if you want to make sure you get one of the back individual tables near the power outlets, come early!! Like right when the place opens because more often than not, people have the same idea
Bottom line: This is such a cute, hip, aesthetic place!! Favorite place to grab a drink in Berkeley! Kinda pricy, but you can definitely taste the quality of the tea when compared to its competitors. If you enjoy your tea, and even if you don't, this is the place for you!! read more
