I was roaming Berkeley with my younger brother and we decided to cool off with some milk tea. My brother recommended this place and I'm glad I took his word for it. We entered Asha and the place gave a tea house vibe, which makes sense given its name. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Asha brews its own tea, which gave their milk tea a robust tea taste. When I sipped on my chai latte, I could actually taste the black tea for once. Usually, the syrup or powder obscures the flavor, but I could tell this chai latte was high quality. My brother got the matcha latte, which had a strong green taste. Overall, I appreciated the artisanship behind the milk tea. Hands down the best milk tea I've had in the U.S. read more

Asha Tea House - Hong Kong Milk Tea and Matcha Latte - Tea Rooms Near Me - Berkeley, California

One of the best tea places in Berkeley. The Hong Kong milk tea is the sole reason I come here. It has a very delicate taste that's not overly sweeten. If you don't want milk tea the Hong Kong iced coffee is really good as well. The tea here is high quality and you can truly taste it. It's an amazing study space. There is not too many tables, but if you are early enough, it's a great place to read an book or study for an exam. The wifi is free for a hour if you order a drink. It keeps away students from taking away all the spaces all day long! Overall, if you are craving milk tea and don't want artificial flavors added to your drink like other boba places than come here! read more

Asha tea is forever my favorite tea house/boba shop ever. Their fruit purees are all so fresh and delicious, and they don't taste syrupy and fake like at other cafes and coffee shops. Their hong kong milk tea is delicious. My other favorite is their matcha latte with the strawberry puree. Their green tea with pear puree is also great. Their drinks are only lightly sweetened (which is how I prefer), and it's amazing because you can actually taste the high quality tea. I just love this place so much!!! read more

Honestly, this is one of the best places you can go for tea. I went here almost every other day when for the past 2 years when I was still in school, and it was worth it. The lighting, the seating, and the atmosphere of the place is so nice and friendly, and moreover, the drinks they serve are great. I always get either get the matcha latte with oat milk and strawberry or the strawberry black tea, but even the other popular drinks here are just as good. It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. The service here is also amazing and the baristas are very kind and efficient with your order. A definite must-go for anyone! read more

I wished I lived in Berkeley JUST for Asha Tea house. They offer soooo many quality teas that all taste amazing. You can tell right when you walk in, because the aroma of all the tea leaves hits you in the face. They even sell some of their loose leaf teas which is great to take home and brew yourself. My favorite drinks are the matcha latte (with almond milk), jasmine tea, and blood orange oolong. I love getting the drinks unsweetened, because their boba is pretty sweet so it evens out. I don't drink milk, so I can't vouch for their milk teas. Would definitely recommend this place if you are a tea enthusiast. It's a great place to study, although there isn't much seating, so come early to get a spot! read more

Asha Tea House - Matcha latte and lemon Jasmine green tea - Tea Rooms Near Me - Berkeley, California

Asha Tea House is what the East Coast (mainly D.C. where I live) is missing. I'm someone who loves bubble tea, matcha, and tea in general, but unfortunately there really aren't a ton of tea shops that do all three. So when I made a trip out to Berkeley for a work trip, I made it a point to Yelp a few bubble tea and matcha places. Asha came out on top. At Asha, they serve fruit teas, milk teas, matcha, pure teas, tisane, and other drinks like coffee and specialty teas. For fruit teas, they have Asian pear oolong, blood orange oolong, Fuji apple black, honeydew green, mango green, pineapple oolong, kiwi green, and more. Milk teas include Hong Kong milk tea, hojicha latte, pumpkin chai latte, Hong Kong coffee milk tea, masala chai latte, and tapioca milk tea. Matcha options include ceremonial matcha, matchaspresso (matcha and espresso), matcha macchiato, matcha affogato, and matcha latte. Pure tea options are black, oolong, jasmine green, house green, and hojicha green. Tisane or herbal tea include chamomile, ginger honey, rooibos, chrysanthemum, and mint. I was really craving a matcha latte so I ordered an iced matcha latte with boba. For orders under $5, they prefer cash. My drink came out not too long later, and I was astonished at how gorgeous the gradient of matcha, milk, and tapioca. The taste was exactly what I wanted for a matcha latte with boba. The matcha, latte, and boba flavors were all well-balanced. It was so good I was tempted to go back the same night and order another. If I'm back at Berkeley, you can bet I'll be back at Asha Tea House. read more

tldr: Not a standard bubble tea shop. Asha focuses on quality brewing, natural flavors (use real fruit in teas), and high quality matcha. Asha Tea House serves high quality teas without the overly sweet, artificial tastes at your traditional bubble tea shop. Asha has great seasonal fruit teas made with real fruit... there is even fruit pieces in the tea (not chunks, but flesh/seeds you'd see from a juicer). The matcha here is great as well. Anything from a multi-layer matcha iced latte to traditional hot matcha tea set is served here. Best tea shop in the States. read more

There's a lot of hype around this place, and I don't think it's wrong. They have really, really good tea!! I've been coming to this location and the one in the city, and both deliver quality drinks. It's a little pricey but I personally think the quality is worth it (although, I would appreciate if they didn't raise their prices!). I have loved everything I've tried: the matcha latte, hojicha milk tea, hong kong milk tea, and raspberry oolong. I think the standout is the matcha - they hand whisk it to order. Nothing is too sweet and for ONCE you don't have to ask for half sugar just to ensure you're not going to be drinking over 40g of sugar in a single drink. The service is not always friendly but it's usually fast. I frequent this location on the weekends, so I can only speak to that. I can typically always find a seat if I want, but parking is not free in the surrounding area so I'm usually in a rush out. read more

I am a huge milk tea fan and Asha is certainly worth the hype. Yes, it is a bit pricier than other boba spots, but the quality is pretty unmatched in my opinion. I've never had a bad drink from Asha and the service is always great! Also, the regular matcha latte here is like rocket fuel. If I have it in the afternoon I usually can't sleep at night, so if you're sensitive to caffeine, make sure you drink it first thing in the morning! read more

Wow... I'm not usually a huge matcha fan but this may be the best matcha I've ever tasted! I usually avoid matcha drinks because they are either super bitter or super diabetic sweet (looking at you, Starbucks). I didn't even like Boba Guys because the matcha was too grainy. Hey, I'm a picky tea connoisseur (at least I'd like to think so haha). When I found myself at Asha, I figured why not try what they're most famous for. I got the matcha latte with my choice of seasonal fruit (currently choices are blood orange, apple and yuzu) and picked yuzu. Maaaan it was amazing! The matcha wasn't bitter at all, the whole milk gave it a slight richness (it's even better with almond milk!) and the yuzu gave it a light tartness and sweetness. I got it a second time in a week. I've also tried the iced teas with fresh purée: the blood orange was just okay to me, not a fan of the yuzu at all as it had a weird lasting sweetness to it that wasn't found in the matcha latte. The hojicha latte is pretty good and has a strong roasted flavor. The people who work here are friendly and it's sometimes hard to find a seat here. Enter your number into their system for their rewards program! Also their snacks are self serve. The lavender bud cookie is floral with a kick of lemon, so if you like lemon go for it! My favorite is the Hawaiian mochi, which is a muffin topped with sesame seeds with a chewy mochi texture inside. It's amazing! I wish there was one in San Jose... read more

Asha's definitely up there as one of my favorite places to get boba/green tea and to catch up with friends. It's conveniently located in downtown Berkeley so I usually come here after having lunch. I'm a big fan of their green tea offerings because their green tea flavors are actually noticeable and I really like watching them whisk their green tea by hand-that's how you know you're getting quality. Asha's also just a very cute store: the space is decorated with tea pots, cups and containers that make the space so quaint, earthy and home-y. They have little snacks on the counter that just ooze cuteness though I usually don't buy because they're kinda pricy-not bout to casually drop $10 at a boba place-sorry! Their matcha latte usually has a good, strong green tea flavor which I really enjoy though the last time I got it, it was more milky than expected. Not sure if I mis-remembered my last matcha latte experience or if that day was off. I'll be back for the highly recommended fruit teas! read more

What a cool spot to grab and enjoy serious tea. SO good! Got the Pineapple Oolong iced tea without sugar. I love being able to control sweetness! It had bits of pineapple in it. Asha is considered to be more of a chill, hipster, upscale boba shop in Berkeley. It's located in Downtown Berkeley very close to the bus stop and around great restaurants like Berkeley Social Club and Platanos. Very limited seating. Especially if you're trying to find a study spot. It can be competitive to snag a spot during midterms and finals season. My top two drinks here is their Hong Kong Milk Tea (love me some condensed milk) and Matcha Latte. The tea isn't overly sweet, so I never adjust the sugar levels. If you think it's not sweet enough, they have simple syrup on the side. I think their tea flavor is strong, but the matcha latte can sometimes have too much milk. Not bitter, but flavorful. Their boba is more on the soft side for me. Not exactly the bounciest. It's chewy and lightly sweetened. I actually dislike their fruit teas. The focus on seasonal ingredients is great and really adds to the whole zen and organic atmosphere. But, I have yet to try a fruit tea from here that I like. Their fruit is not juicy and plump. But seems rehydrated sometimes and annoying to chew through when you sip their teas. I feel like the harmony of tea and fruit flavor is not quite there. It either comes out watery and cheap or bland. I would pass on these and order their milk-based drinks instead. Overall: A solid choice for milk-based boba drinks if you're here for the vibe. If you want fruit teas, I'd recommend looking at the 4-5 other places that sell boba in Downtown Berkeley. read more

I've been to Asha a few times, and I've never been disappointed! First of all, the store itself has a jazzy, hipster vibe that I LOVE. It's all dark wood and metal accents, and full of students meeting up with friends and enjoying a break from studying. I've had their milk tea with boba and their blood orange oolong fruit tea with grass jelly. I was immediately blown away by the quality of their tea. A lot of boba places drown the taste of the tea with sugar, but not Asha. They take pride in their tea. The actual boba left something to be desired, but it could also just be that it couldn't match the quality of the tea. I ordered the blood orange after the woman behind the register recommended it to me. I love Asha's grass jelly, but I wish I hadn't gotten it with the blood orange oolong, because the blood orange oolong comes with a lot of pulp and drinking grass jelly with pulp was a little strange. Still, the tea was super refreshing, and a really pretty color. Asha is a little more expensive than most boba places, so it's definitely more of a splurge place for when friends are in town, but regardless, I know I'll be back! read more

I really wanted to like Asha, but guess it's just not my cup of tea.. (ha ha.....) Been here a few times to see if I just had a bad batch of drinks. The matcha latte, which is one of their most popular drinks, was smooth without powder or chunks like in other drinks, but tasted like water both times I got it. Their other milk teas (HK, HK coffee, tapioca, etc) we're okay, nothing to rave about either. There just wasn't much taste to the drinks. Overall, really trendy and hipster place with drinks that didn't live up to the hype for me read more

Did regular milk tea! I know the rating will depend on personal taste, but i really liked how the drink was not too sweet. The tea, sweetness, and milk(?) were well balanced and the taste was more on the subtle side. Asha tea house is a cafe that's been highly recommended by many of my friends. so on an escapade to expand the list of the resident matcha latte expert @albert, we decided to get the matcha latte here. the matcha here is very vivid in flavor, smooth in the mouth and bitter in the end (a lil too bitter for me) I could taste that there was less milk in this drink because my stomach felt very happy after having a few sips - def one of the higher quality tea cafes I've been to read more

Every weekend, I have decided to explore a city in the Bay Area (as I recently moved here from Seattle). If any of you have recommendations of restaurants / bubble tea / coffee places to explore, let me know. :) Parking: It is near Berkeley, so there is paid street parking available. I came here on a Saturday afternoon (around 3 - 4 pm), and I had no problem finding parking. Also, note that parking in Berkeley is super strict - my friends have told me that the parking polices really monitor the area (so pay accordingly and read signs before leaving your car). Ambience: The space is modern and chic. It is open with high ceilings and simply adorned with tea and facts about tea. It is not too loud, so an ideal place for working or studying. They seem to allow dogs there too as I saw two of them in there. Service: I didn't have too much interaction with the employee except asking for a recommendation and paying. She was friendly and recommended various drinks. Order: I ended up getting the matcha latte with boba. Compared to other matcha lattes I have had at coffee and bubble tea places, the matcha was so strong. Verdict: 3 because there seems to be a lot of hype for this place and the matcha latte was heavily infused with matcha powder (which could be balanced a bit more) - it was not as good as I thought it would be and pricey for what it is worth. However, thumbs up on the ambiance. read more

My favorite all-around place for tea in the bay - everything is delicious and great quality! Their chai latte blend is more spicy than sweet, and you can tell it's not from a purchased concentrate - a tough thing to find! It's a tough call whether to order the chai or a milk tea with boba. Their boba is my favorite, and it holds up well whether your drink it hot or iced. I recommend ordering half-sweetened, though, for the boba itself is in syrup that adds plenty of sweetness to the drink. In comparison to other boba shops, their tea is, again, great quality. What I'm most excited to try next is their Moroccan Mint Tea, as I'm hoping it'll remind me of traveling - but I can't seem to branch out from my two favorites. Asha Tea House is a great place to grab some good quality tea amongst a sea of boba places in the area! There's been a ridiculous influx of boba places in the Berkeley area especially near campus, but what separates Asha Tea House from the rest is that it isn't about the boba, but the tea. The tea served here is of good quality, and they have quite the variety. I particularly enjoy their HK milk tea, matcha latte, and hojicha latte which can each either be ordered hot or cold. They also sell tea leaves here which I've bought on occasion, with their thai tea being a particular favorite to brew at home. Came here to try the matcha latte and was not disappointed! I got the iced matcha latte and my boyfriend ordered the Hong Kong coffee milk tea which was also delicious. The coffee flavor was very strong. We didn't make adjustments to either drink and both were the perfect amount of sweetness. The second time we came here, we got the matcha latte again but with lavender syrup. The lavender flavor is very strong so it overpowers most of the matcha flavor! Good thing I like lavender so I was okay with this. So far, Asha is definitely on the top of my list for matcha lattes. I'll come back anytime I'm in the area! read more

Love the fruit teas here- I wish I had one of of these closer to where I lived! The fruit tea flavors are seasonally and taste naturally infused. Love this place! Their matcha lattes are seriously the best. My go-to is a regular sized iced matcha latte with oat milk and light on the boba. List of the reasons why my go-to drink is legit amazing: 1.) NOT TOO SWEET - Their default sweet is barely sweet, but that is the way I like it. If you get it unsweetened, it tastes a bit too healthy. Default sweet is the way to go on this drink at least. 2.) CREAMY GOODNESS - I'm a bit lactose (or more like extreme) so dairy milk is a no-go. Oat milk is a bit thicker/creamier than almond milk, and has a nice flavor and light sweetness to it. They use the Califia Barista Blend Oat Milk. 4.) MATCHA WORKS LIKE COLD BREW COFFEE WITHOUT THE JITTERS - Need I say more? If you need a caffeine fix, and don't want to down another cup of joe in the middle of the afternoon, look no further. 3.) BOBA IS ON POINT - I'm not a fan of a huge cup of boba, so I usually just ask for half the boba. Freshly made everyday. 4.) SUPER CLOSE TO BERKELEY BART - If you need an Asha boba fix and don't want to deal with the wacky downtown parking situation, Berkeley BART is literally less than a 5 min walk to Asha. Totally worth the trip! Highly recommended! read more

Every time the temperature drops below 60, or there's a light mist in the air, I'll be fantasizing about the hot green tea matcha latte from Asha. Just like my fellow tea totaling Yelpers have said, it's dreamy. And creamy, and frothy AND organic. The tea menu is daunting, but user-friendly. At the ordering counter, there's a helpful step-by-step tutorial that lists "how to order": start with your tea, pick your sweetness level, your milk type, and your hot or iced preference, then add boba or not, and...voila! Your custom drink is on the way. Not only is the menu a comfort-drink-lover's paradise, but the space for sipping is also lovely. The high ceilings, modern-industrial decor, and soft lighting make for the perfect, cozy tea drinking atmosphere. They even have free wifi, making me feel right at home (along with a couple dozen college kids). For $3.75, the cups of comfort they serve are more than worth it. If only it were possible to park in Downtown Berkeley, I'd start every morning at Asha. read more

I see the appeal of Asha Tea House. I see why it is a great place to study and chill with friends with its warm and stylish decor. But could I taste amazing boba? Not really... I will totally give Asha credit for using authentic teas in their boba. I haven't tried a place that makes boba with such a strong tea flavor before and while some people may enjoy that, I personally prefer boba that is a bit sweeter. I'm all for tea, but I like to think of boba as a semi-dessert and this wasn't very sweet at all. I chose the macchiato chai latte, wanting to venture outside of my typical preference. Prices here are exorbitant when you look at the size of the cups. While there are two distinct sizes, the large is a typical size you would find in most boba spots while their original size was downright tiny. Asha definitely uses the smallest boba cups I have encountered thus far, but after receiving my drink, I realized the size wasn't an issue because I didn't enjoy my choice at all. Chai flavor was there. Creaminess, although subtle, was there. But there was barely any sugar. Asha does provide a simple syrup on the counter for self-serve purposes. I added enough to make my boba drinkable, but even then, I was hesitant about finishing it. It just wasn't memorable. I'm bummed out to give such a high-rated place a low score, but Asha didn't tickle my boba fancy. If I was ever in the mood for plain ol' tea, then maybe this place would be the best choice, but those steep prices really just aren't worth it. read more

Asha Tea House, you are a life changer! If you know me (which you most likely don't), I am not a big fan of matcha at all. I know to some... it is life, but I always associated matcha with raw fish. Maybe it was the past child in me that always got green tea ice cream right after eating sushi, but that association kept occurring and all I could taste in matcha was just raw fish. So why did I come here to try Asha's Ice Matcha Latte? Maybe, I wanted to be a brave soul that wanted to love matcha as much as everyone else and DAMN did this place change my mind. I can't say I completely love every matcha drink now, but I know what to get here! - Ice Matcha Latte w/ Boba ($4-5) - Favorite. Favorite. Favorite. It has the perfect blend of matcha powder and milk. The milk provides a nice creaminess and most importantly, its not overly sweet. The boba then adds that perfect sweetness that takes this drink over the top. - Jasmine Milk Tea ($2-3) - Not the best Jasmine Milk Tea, but it has a really nice tea flavor. When I got mine, I felt it was a tad watery, but I usually hear good reviews on this and the Hong Kong Milk Tea as well. Decoration of this place is like you walked into a hipster photograph on Tumblr! It's cute and looks like a great place to study. The workers are pretty friendly and willing to help you out if you can't decide. Honestly, try Asha Tea House out.. hopefully it can change your life too. read more
