poor attempt at itemized invoice

Avoid ASAP Plumbing - Bait & Switch Pricing, "Theatrics," and Zero Accountability I unfortunately have to give ASAP Plumbing a 1-star review. If I could give them negative 5 stars, I would. We had two technicians, Jose Horlacher and Josh Karl, come out to check a leaking outdoor spigot and a wobbling toilet. From the start, it was nonsense theatrics, particularly from Josh (the senior tech). He tried to scare us into unneeded repairs, claiming our plumbing was so old he "couldn't touch it"--which is absurd, as the house was only built in 1996. When he lifted the toilet, he claimed it was "the worst news ever," stated the flange was off-center, and told us he would need to break and replace the tile to install a new flange. He used this fear-mongering to justify a massive $2,900 quote. When I questioned him again on the price, he changed his story and tried to justify the cost by claiming it was for a "2-year warranty." After I pushed back further, they suddenly dropped the toilet quote by $300 (to $1,350). The most disturbing part? Our doorbell camera captured him discussing this on the phone, saying, "Oh, let's just drop it down like we did with the other lady"--as if this manipulative pricing is a routine habit for them. Based on discussions with other plumbers and engineers, even with that "discount," the total for these two jobs should have been around $900 max. The reality was a complete bait-and-switch. They returned the following Tuesday and swapped the flange (picture attached) in just 20 minutes. It did not--I REPEAT, DID NOT--involve any of the tile work or major adjustments they claimed were necessary. We paid for a major demolition that was not required, but got a standard 20-minute repair. Honestly, they seemed to just linger around to pad the time rather than just getting it done. I would blame the behavior mainly on Josh, as he appeared to be the senior tech and Jose appeared to be in training or the least experienced... To make matters worse, the professionalism was non-existent: * They actually asked if we wanted the toilet caulked--as if leaving it unsealed was an option. We said, "Of course," yet when we checked, they had only caulked it halfway around. * They scratched up our toilet seat. * On the first visit, they left the lid to the main water line open, left their tools, gloves etc... scattered in our front yard Management has completely ignored us. I called three separate times to speak to a manager about rectifying this. Each time, I was told it would be "prioritized" and that a manager would contact me by the end of the day. It has now been a month. I purposely waited to give them the benefit of the doubt during the holiday season, but they have simply ghosted us. The only thing they did do was send an "itemized invoice" (picture attached) after I requested a breakdown of labor and supplies. It was offensive: it was done with zero effort and completely lacked detail--which I believe was done on purpose to hide the inflated costs. I cannot believe this happened given my past loyalty to this company. We had previously entrusted ASAP with major work, including a massive kitchen re-plumb where they redid everything for new appliances and re-installed our RO system. We also hired them for water heater circulators and other outdoor repairs. I had recently recommended them to friends and had to immediately reach out and tell them not to call. Beware of the theatrics at this company. They burned a loyal customer, overcharged significantly for simple work, and refused to take accountability.

What sets them apart is their professionalism, attention to detail, and commitment to customer education. Rather than simply fixing the issue and moving on, they always take the time to explain what they're doing, answer our questions, and provide helpful recommendations for extending the life of our plumbing systems and fixtures. Most recently, Lou and Anthony spent an entire day at our home tackling a long list of plumbing projects. Their work was thorough, efficient, and completed to a very high standard. Despite the large scope of the job, everything was finished in a timely manner, looked great, and functioned perfectly. Just as importantly, they treated our home with respect. Before leaving, they made sure everything was clean and tidy, leaving no trace of the extensive work they had completed throughout the day. It's rare to find a company that consistently delivers this level of service year after year. We highly recommend them and are grateful to have a plumbing team we can trust whenever the need arises.

Well... our water heater exploded with water spewing everywhere this time. Came out same day to get us a quote and also helped me figure out how to turn off the water. Lou came by within a few hours and assess the situation. Gave me 3 options and went with the traditional water heater with 10 year warranty. Lou was fast efficient and explained everything. When he was done, he had cleaned up the area and the garage space where he was working and left everything immaculate. Incredibly honest company.

Donald did a good job at a reasonable price replacing an angle stop valve for the supply line for…read moremy toilet. It was a nightmare situation as a previous contractor broke it and left me abandoned and my main water supply wouldn't turn off so I could literally not sleep for 24 hours as I had to empty a bowl every 30 to 60 minutes (the supply valve is low so it would not accommodate anything larger underneath) or it would flood and ruin the new flooring that was just installed. It did ruin my brand new baseboard that I had just had installed the day before. He kept blaming me saying by turning the giant nut I somehow ruined the pipe which I don't understand but I did everything to try and loosen the bolt under urgent and impossible conditions and stress and I found no special instructions or tool that specified one as a necessity to use on it in all my research or that I had done anything wrong, but it had been there for 30 years and was fused on tight and wouldn't budge even with two vise grips. With the flooding happening I was desperate to get it removed so I thought that his continuous commentary was strange. He also said I had to loosen that nut clockwise as if it were reversely threaded but discovered that was not the case multiple times in my research so again I'm very confused. If something had been critically missed I wish he would've at least told me or made it clear what my alternative was otherwise assigning blame does little good; I am not an experienced plumber. I did not see nor was ever shown how he ultimately removed it so the whole point was moot. He walked off with my channel locks which I informed him of immediately after he left. He said he didn't have it then the next day he said he did but that he couldn't return them until after I left the area for a couple weeks at which point I told him he could drive out to my house. Luckily he changed his mind and returned them that morning as it really isn't my responsibility to retrieve them. I had been thru two days of hell from the previous contractor with 8 hours sleep over three nights. But he did the job and it took him no more than 15 to 20 minutes. There's a really big gash in my wall now where the valve is but I guess he had to do that to cut the pipe. I will have to find a wall cover plate or something to hide it or else patch it up. I then had to call another contractor to check the toilet seating as the flooring installer who left me with the leaking supply valve was supposed to handle it but did not do it right. Ultimately I had to hire three contractors in 36 hours for the same bathroom.

I don't know what chemicals etc. are in the water that was dumped but the fluid was dumped right next to fairly new plants and left an unsightly hole in the gravel. Further, I don't know what if any harm may be done to the new plants. I have ZERO tolerance for contractors who act disrespectfully towards the property where they're working. The place where the water was dumped was just a couple of feet from the driveway. If the water was dumped in the driveway, it would run down to the curb and follow the slope of the street as drainage and NOT risk any harm being done to our new plants. If we notice any adverse changes to our plants, there will be some follow-on activity with P&L. Just careless. I have to admit that I am skeptical of any company that provides "virtual quotes" without seeing the work site for themselves. But they requested a couple of pictures of old water heater installation to assess the job, provided a quote "sight unseen", and did the work with no extra cost added (always a concern with virtual quotes). They were the cheapest of the 3 bids that I got. No long-winded sales pitch that I should install a $5K tankless unit. The tech provided instructions on the annual flushing process. I'm satisfied. I'm hoping that at last I have a go-to plumber.
