If you crave late night sushi, then you should know about this place. As a small restaurant in a strip mall, you might miss it if you drive too fast, but their deals after 10PM are AWESOME! A regular weekend stop for us. Highlights include $3 tempura and gyoza (decently large portion), and a few awesome rolls at discounted/half price! My staple is miso soup and the Sundance roll. I especially would like to laud the Sundance roll because it's what got my wife to like sushi, so now we eat it more often (big win). If I had to rate Asahi on a scale of 10, I'd put it at a 6. I didn't walk away disappointed, but I also didn't walk away all that impressed. A couple of the rolls were very good, but overall they were all pretty average. We had the following rolls: Vegas Roll (good "beginner" roll for people that don't love sushi... but this Vegas Roll wasn't even my favorite) Playboy Roll (the waitress said it is the most popular and I thought it was pretty good) Xanax Roll (not very good) Crispy Roll (the best roll we had all night) Sundance Roll (pretty good) Honeymoon Roll (not my favorite... the only roll with mango I believe) I used to work near this area and frequented this restaurant location when it was 1 of a dozen different places. So it's your typical strip mall turned sushi bar restaurant. Not a bad atmosphere but nothing special. The waitress was helpful but didn't seem to know much more than the ingredients listed on the menu. Not that I "expect" the waitress to have the chef's knowledge, but she didn't even have her own personal favorite. Maybe it was her first week? The price was pretty standard for sushi although I can pay the same amount down the road at Happy Sumo and be a little more satisfied with the quality. So overall I would be safe recommending this sushi bar if you're in the area and want some quality sushi, but I wouldn't make it a destination date night. read more

Although it is definitely the best Japanese and especially Sushi restaurant I've eaten at in Utah county. I will definitely be back. At 45 minutes I gave up and asked one of the servers for my money back, surprisingly they came out with my order seconds after. Mmmmm this place is so so so yummy! The fish is so fresh and the ambience is amazing. I got the Crispy roll and the Playboy and OH MY GOSH - best rolls ever. My only qualms were with the bathroom (one seater, not incredibly clean) and the heat - they had that bad boy cranked! I've been there tons of times and they're still my favorite sushi place. I could go on and on about how amazing this place is. First off, the service is always A+. Ben and Chase always take such great care of us. The food is out of this world. Carlos and the other Sushi Chef always make the yummiest rolls. If you ever want them to make a random roll for you, they will. They will ask you want kind of fish you like and make something up on the spot. Our whole family said that when Carlos did that for us, it was the best roll they had ever had. I really loved the summer fling roll. Very delicious Amazu sauce on escolar and salmon avocado roll. I also tried Philly and geisha. For my sister they were willing to swap in raw sake for the philly (smoked is more of an Alaska roll). I then ordered to go, requesting a mango and avocado "comfort roll" style, along with philly and Cali, but ended up with a Honeymoom but without mango and just salmon and avocado. Our waitress seemed to be struggling and didn't seem confident about the gluten free options. Big plus for open on Sunday evening in Utah county- I got the happy hour deal buy one get lesser priced at half off. $38 for three special rolls and two comfort rolls. It was just kinda weird to request mango and avocado and then get something totally without mango. Made me a sad customer when I gave these rolls to my friend that stayed home. This place is amazing, the staff is friendly, the sushi chefs know their craft, the prices are affordable, and the atmosphere is great. They also sell booze which is a plus in Utah county. (Not many restaurants sell booze) Heads up though: It does get very busy on Friday and Saturday night so be smart and get there in time and be patient. It's a college town, and the sushi specials are the main reason the college kids like myself come in and take advantage of. Ask for Shannon, she is a great server. read more

What can I say. It is my most favorite Sushi / Japanese restaurant around here. My wife (also from Japan) always get Ikura Nigiri from them (because it's awesome). They usually have Saba and the Uni nigiri also. My recent favorite there is Hamachi Kama (part of Hamachi with bones that is baked). It's not Sushi but simple Item that reminds me of food in Japan. If you are good at using the chopsticks (and you like fish of course), I challenge you to try this. If you get a bowl of rice and miso soup with that Hamachi Kama, that is a complete meal there. read more

This place used to be good but now it is terrible! Starting with their service....They need to get a hostess to help get everyone seated. People came in after us and we're seated before us. Then the people who were seated after us were served first. We finally got up and left after 10 minutes of being there without even being served water. This was the second time we have had bad service and the previous time we thought the food was just okay. Very bad experience and won't be going back. My husband and I came here for lunch on our anniversary. It's a risk to try a new restaurant on a special occasion, but it was a risk we were willing to take. While the experience didn't ruin our anniversary, it also didn't add to it. First, let me say that the ambience is beautiful. Outside you're in Orem off State Street at noon, inside you're in a beautifully decorated almost high-end-looking restaurant and who knows what time it is. They do have 2 tvs, but the sound isn't up on either so they can be easily ignored. The music they were playing on a Saturday during lunch was a throwback to the '70s which was fun. We even heard Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On." Now the food... We ordered the calamari and tempura shrimp and veggies for appetizers. The calamari was battered in an onion ring type of batter--the smooth kind of batter rather than a crunchy kind. The calamari was tender and good, but the batter wasn't our favorite (mainly because it kept reminding us of onion rings). The tempura shrimp and veggies was good. Our basket had sweet potatoes and acorn squash with the shrimp. We got 4 sushi rolls; I believe they were the rockstar, Vegas, Xanax, and red dragon. The sushi was presented beautifully and we were excited. But each roll tasted a little off--maybe bland. I don't know if it was the rice or what because the fish itself tasted great. But we enjoyed Oishii Sushi's (also in Orem) and Red 8's sushi (in Lehi) better. Our server was nice and helpful. The service was prompt. Overall impression wasn't that great, especially for the cheque's total. We might give this place a second chance down the road, but for now we'll stick with Oishii Sushi and Red 8. read more

Absolutely garbage nowadays. Asahi used to be my favorite Sushi bar in town, but in the last year year or so, they have been going down hill pretty bad. Their sushi used to be amazing, until they hired a few white dudes to start making the roles, instead of the old chefs that used did an amazing Job. Today, I placed a to-go order over the phone and got estimated about 35 minutes. I showed up 40min later, and waited in the restaurant for an additional hour. read more

By far one of the WORST customer service experiences I have ever had. I enjoy going to this particular sushi restaurant and have had good experiences in the past, but I cannot believe how horribly they treated my family and I tonight. We went before 11pm and of course, it was packed, which is understandable for a Saturday evening. We waited for about 20 minutes, which was not a problem because we knew it was busy. Once we were seated, only 2 out of the 4 of us received water because the glasses were currently in the dish washer. Again, not a problem at the time. Our waiter, Casey, came by and wrote our order down and went on his way. An hour passed and we still hadn't received our other 2 glasses of water. We noticed that other people who were in line behind us had received their food and all had glasses of water. We asked a waitress to bring 2 more glasses of water and waited patiently for our food. I'm not even kidding, 30+ more minutes passed, literally over an HOUR AND A HALF before Casey came by with no food in hand. He came up to our table and asked if we were ready to order.... ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! My brother-in-law reminded Casey that he did take our order down OVER AN HOUR ago. It's a busy night, I get that, but Casey did not handle the situation well AT ALL. He goes about it like it was my sister-in-law's fault because she was using the restroom at the time we were ordering (which why would that be an issue?? Her husband ordered her food, and we explained that at the time) and doesn't even apologize for his screw up! We didn't get our food until after 1am, about 2 hours of waiting. The food, which is normally good, was bland and a lot of the avocado and cream cheese were missing from the rolls. Perhaps it wasn't as good because we literally got the last of the fish that has been sitting out all day! When Casey came by with the checks, my husband asked if there is anything that can be done for the terrible and ridiculous wait we went through. Casey offers a measly dish of edamame and simply says, "Just don't tip me." We asked Casey to talk to the manager because SOMETHING had to be done for this poor customer service. When he came back, he tried to avoid our questions and said that there was nothing that could be done and to just not tip him. I seriously doubt he spoke to the manager and I can't believe nothing happened to try and resolve this horrible incident!! I really did enjoy going to Asahi in the past but I will NOT be returning after such unacceptable customer service. I understand people make mistakes, but to not take responsibility and try to fix the mess you made, especially a screw up like my family and I sat through, is completely unacceptable! Asahi, you need to seriously clean up your act and fix this before I decide to spend another cent or another second at your place. read more

The worst service I've ever had, and zero effort to fix it. We arrived at Asahi shortly before 11pm on a Saturday, and were seated within 20 minutes. It was busy because of their happy hour so that was fine. Once seated, two of our party of four received water (the other two were out of luck because they apparently were out of glasses). Our waiter, Casey, asked at the same time if we were ready to order. We had already figured out what we were getting while waiting to be seated so we placed our order and waited. And waited. We started noticing people that came in after us getting their food. Pretty soon everyone in the restaurant had come in after us, and some tables were empty for the night. Still no food. A party of eight behind us received their second round of rolls, including many of the same rolls we ordered. Finally, around 12:30, an HOUR after we ordered, we stopped a waitress not assigned to our table (Casey had never come back) and asked for water for the other half of our party, and we asked about our food. After finding out our server was Casey, she went and talked to him. It was at least fifteen minutes later that Casey came by. He asked if we were ready to order...until we asked if he was kidding, because HE had taken our order an our ago. The restaurant was almost closed. Anyways, twenty or so minutes later, after 1am, we finally got our food. It was typical Asahi...solid sushi, but certainly not worth this service. When he asked if we were ready for checks I asked if there was anything they could do for us since we waited over an hour and watched everyone else in the restaurant come in after us and get served. He said "like some edamame?" Yeah, cause I want some podded soybeans to make up for that. Are you kidding? So I said no, like our meals discounted. He said he would ask, and left the checks. He came back and collected the cards, and hurried away without saying anything about his conversation with the manager. When he brought the cards back I asked what they said, and he quickly responded that they said there was nothing they could do. He said it in a way that made me doubt he ever spoke to the manager. No apologies the entire time, all he said was "you don't have to give me a tip." You think? We used to come here at least every month but the food doesn't make up for this terrible service and we won't be back. We came before 11, only got home at 2, and were there long enough to see the late night risqué commercials on fox sports. Just terrible all around. If you screw customers into waiting an hour and a half, maybe apologize. And definitely don't offer soybeans/edamame to fix it. read more

Asahi is the best place to get Sushi in all of Utah! Its the only place I will go! You have to try the Roman roll created by Chef Alan! It's a Mexican/Japanese fusion!
