Best sushi in Provo. I go here often. In fact, I come in, tell the guy at the register that I want my regular roll, hand him $12.00 and head to my regular table. They do the rest. My go to is the Godzilla. The rolls are very reasonably priced and are at least 12 pieces! One roll fills me up. And the service is impeccable. When I ask for more wasabi and ginger, it is brought out immediately. I don't often go to the same restaurants repeatedly because I like trying new places, but this is the place, given the proper income, that I'd easily go to lunch every single day, if I could. Saw the reviews and stopped here on a taste of Utah County tour. We ordered Vegas and Bonzai rolls to share, and they were both very good - not the best I've ever had, but no one had any complaints. The Bonzai was probably the better of the two. We liked the freshness, but I would happily eat either again. The Vegas roll did tend to fall apart a little. As far as ambiance is concerned, it is definitely a bit dive-y, but we were looking for good food, not a fine dining experience. We ordered take-out, so I can't say anything about presentation. After reading all the positive reviews I was excited to try this place out. My husband and I placed an order for take out. The lady I spoke with was very nice and helped me find the best vegetarian option. We ended up ordering 4 sushi rolls, nigiri and a boba smoothie. Some reviews had mentioned how cheap the lunch rolls were but we ended up paying way more than I thought. The prices shown on the menu pictured on Yelp are way different than what we were charged. I'm assuming they raised their prices due to the pandemic... the sushi was just ok. I've definitely had better sushi. My husband said the yellowtail nigiri was not good at all. This place is tiny but it wasn't busy so we had no problem getting one of the two tables. The restaurant is nicely decorated, clean, and comfortable. Service was friendly, specially from the sushi chef. The server was reserved and not very engaging, but he was efficient. The sushi was delicious and presentation was awesome. We ordered the Sunset, Bonsai, Hulk, Lady in Red, and sake maki rolls. All very enjoyable. I loved that the sunset had real crab, the sashimi tasted very fresh, the salmon had a nice fat content, and the fried shrimp and asparagus were crisp. The problem I had with the sushi was that it came apart easily so kind of messy, it needs to be rolled a little tighter. I'll come back for sure. read more

Kinda looks rundown from the outside, but the inside is nice and we LOVED the sushi. This is one of the best sushi places in Provo. Everything we got was perfect, rolls are priced at a fair price, everything was so fresh. The firecracker roll was our absolute favorite. The Texas roll has steak and cream cheese and is fried, it was pretty unique and yummy. The rolls are huge, and 3 rolls filled 2 of us up. Definitely would recommend this place! read more

I would love to give this a 5-star review -- the presentation was beautiful, the food tasted good... these should be the most important thing. However from the moment we walked in to the shop, there was a smell that was like a dirty mop. We stayed because it had taken so long for my friend and myself to come up with a good place to meet for lunch. Between both of us, we wanted something we had never tried, but good food that had good reviews. We really did some research and were prepared for the beautiful presentation, good food, small restaurant. But the smell was something I never got over... I got more accustomed to it as we sat there, but I could never bring someone back knowing it may always smell like that. It wasn't a fishy or sushi smell. It was more like a moldy mop -- that makes everything seem dirty and neglected. The other thing that really bothered me was the "looseness" of the rolls. They fell apart with chopsticks, so we had to pick it up with our hands. Good sushi should not be loosely rolled and should stay together. I hope they get this fixed as its nice to have little "hole in the wall" type restaurants to try. I am not sure if I am confident in coming back to see if this was just a one-off thing or something they don't notice and will be like that again. read more

Forgive me for the low rating; I'm still getting used to sushi in non-beach towns. Bonsai Sushi is a tiny little restaurant with two 4-seat tables and 6 more seats at the sushi bar. I was brought here because it was open on Sunday and because of the good Yelp reviews. They have been open for about 2 1/2 months, but the strip mall hasn't put up a sign for it yet, so it can be hard to find if you're not going off of the address. It's next to Laura's Kitchen, if that helps direct anyone. I ordered the Lady in Red, which is spicy tuna, avocado and green onions topped with tuna, tobiko, ponzu sauce, eel sauce, and sesame seeds. I was pleased to see that the roll wasn't drowning in sauces; too often places will overpower the fish with the sauces, but it was nice and light here. Unfortunately, I wasn't super impressed with the quality of the tuna. I do believe that it was otoro, the more delicious and fattiest part of the belly, but it just wasn't super fresh. It had no "give" to it when you would bite down; it just sort of mushed without melting in your mouth. It didn't have that strong maguro flavor to it and it had me burping up the classic "fishy" taste. That said, I still enjoyed eating it. The miso soup here is absolutely terrible. I don't know what mix they use, but it's no good. The presentation is solid; my Lady in Red came out on a banana leaf with a cocktail umbrella. I don't know that I'd choose to come back here, but I'm still new to the Utah sushi scene, so I don't know if this may be as good as it gets! read more

This was a fun experience. The owners are so nice! I was surprised by how small it was, but loved the intimacy of the space. There were no appetizers on the menu, but we were offered Miso Soup. We drank Boba Shakes, I had avocado and my kids had melon. They were a little on the sweet side, but very good. The sushi itself was pretty delicious! Long rolls, packed with flavor! I had the Atlantic and Mango rolls, and they really were some of the best rolls I've had in Utah. I would definitely recommend this place! Watch out Five Sushi Bros and surrounding sushi bars... this place has got it all. I was a little skeptical walking in, but quickly reminded myself some of the best food comes from hole-in-the-wall restaurants. It's a small restaurant, but has more seating in the back, so don't doubt its size when you first walk in! We were served immediately with drinks and ordered the Vegas Roll and Rock and Roll Roll. SUPER impressed with the price point for each. Our service was timely and so prompt, I've never felt so important at a restaurant in my life. Our sushi was made quickly and it came out beautifully. We were also offered extra sauces on the side. (Can you say #blessed for EXTRA SPICY MAYO?!) Both rolls were tasty and I was super happy with how many pieces they came with (I think there was like 12 pieces for each roll, which was awesome). On top of that, they ran out of Boba when we came in, but with only an hour left before they closed, they made us new Boba and it was SO GOOD. Highly recommend the Melon Boba smoothie. Can't go wrong there. Overall just super stoked about the service, price, and taste of this place. We will definitely be back for more. read more

We got the dragon, mango habanero, Godzilla, and Bonsai rolls. They gave us extra ginger without us even asking! My favorite thing is the treatment of the salmon on top of the Bonsai roll.
