I keep coming back. Asa Ramen is so conveniently close to my house and so delicious that often I find myself within these walls. The restaurant is very basic, nothing flashy. It definitely is inspired by the Orem/Provo hipster masses with its modern music and low key services. What it lacks in decor/mood it makes up for in simply delicious food. I can't get myself to order anything other than the Tonkatsu Ramen with extra Chashu (pork belly). The food presentation is pretty and it makes the experience that much better. Where do I start.. my husband and I LOVE Asa Ramen! We live in South Jordan and we always always make time to drive out to Orem for ramen. It's just too bomb, I crave it all the time. We took our Japanese friend here and they said the ramen was legit and so good! We always get tonkotsu, (my favorite broth, I've tried them all) with garlic, karage, and the almighty chashu bun! Service was excellent, we came in on a busy day and were seated very shortly after. Appetizers came out very quickly, and the ramens were excellent. There are no other straight-up ramen places (that I know of) around this area, so just for that reason alone you get 5/5 stars. Just kidding, but really you are getting 5 stars...and, really, where are all of the other ramen places?! My wife had a 1/2 Tonkatsu w/ extra Chashu and I went for a full Shoyu w/ extra Chashu. We had an order of Gyoza on the side. I think the ramen (both of them) was good overall and the Gyoza was delicious, although I'm not sure I've ever had a dumpling I didn't like. Of course, it would be great if more than 5 Gyoza came for that 4.50 price, but, hey, we aren't in Asia and there aren't a lot of other options around! I love Chashu. I also love Char Siu, but here they serve Chashu. I thought perhaps it was a different spelling of the same thing (the whole translating Asian languages into the English alphabet), but a quick Google search tells me I'm mistaken. This is what my search entailed: Chashu = Japanese simmered pork Char Siu = Chinese barbecued pork (If someone has more information concerning this Chashu vs Char Siu debacle, please message me!) Bottom line: I liked the Char Siu I've had at places in Vegas and New York more than the Chashu I had here, but I still liked the Chashu a lot, and, considering I haven't had ramen anywhere else in Utah County (and I've never knowingly ate Chashu), I have nothing else to compare it to! We had the Tonkatsu and Shoyu. They were good. Nothing spectacular or stand out. Nothing horrible either. Was very busy but service still quick. Liked the menus and they assist first timers. We are authentic ramen enthusiasts and like that they put the effort into their menu as we've taken many newbies so this makes it so we don't have to explain everything. We would repeat but haven't yet as we've found better in same driving distance, maybe when we need to switch it up it will be our plan B. read more

I was at Momofuku Las Vegas last week so I can provide a bit of comparison. (Momofuku, founded by David Chang, is perhaps the most famous ramen restaurant in the states.) The shoyu bowl at Momofuku is $17. Asa's is $9. The differences play themselves out from there. It's almost the same food, but if you're paying attention you can note the gradations in quality that make the former so famous: stretchier noodles, more piquant broth, more flavorful cuts and preparations of pork. The pork buns are not similar, on the other hand. Chang uses Lee Kum Kee hoisin sauce and seared pork belly in his recipe, which has become such a popular formulation I expected Asa would have fallen in line like so many other places. Instead, they use tender braised pork and hoisin mayo (I think). The result is delicious in either case. If you find yourself on either coast, Momofuku is definitely worth a visit. But Asa doesn't suffer by comparison, especially considering the much lower price point. And it compares even better locally - it's significantly better than the ramen places in Lehi. If you're getting pork buns and ramen, opt for the half bowl. I'm a large guy and I couldn't make it through the full bowl. read more

I'll definitely go back for those. *The miso broth was clean tasting, not overly salty and tasty. *The service was quick! Ohhhhh baby! When the only experience you have with ramen is, "cup of noodle," this is bound to knock your socks off! Do I know if this place is authentic? No idea! But, regardless.. it is dang good! I actually love the "hole in the wall" type vibe this place gives. You feel extremely comfortable, almost at home, yet it doesn't lack the necessary professionalism. All of the employees seem so happy to be there. When this is the case, I know that the business treats their employees well, and so the employees treat their customers well! It's the perfect circle of life! On to the food, Please please start with the Chasu buns! This heavenly cloud like bread, is stuffed with pork, lettuce, and a delish mix of sauces. You will not regret this decision. Next, I like to get a half size bowl of Tonkotsu. It's a yummy pork broth topped with a perfect combo of meat, egg, and noodles. To add some spice I ask for the chili paste! This stuff packs a perfect heat without compromising flavor! We have also tried the pot stickers (delish), and mochi for dessert! We haven't ordered something we didn't like! Overall with an appetizer and two entrees + tip, we usually spend less than $30! Great deal! Parking... be prepared to park behind the restaurant! As a picky ramen eater this place was such a change! Whenever my husband and I would try ramen places in Utah, I'd be disappointed and just sigh and tell him let's just get pho next time. But not this place! I am willing to come here all the way from Salt Lake City bc this is amazing ramen. The broth you can tell the cook eel bc it's sooooo flavorful and the noodles weren't over cooked. My husband got the spicy ramen and it's not like "I need milk I can't enjoy this" kind of spicy but you can drink the broth and still get spice. It's perfect. I got the shoyu/tonkatsu. AMAZING. The appetizers came out fast and they were good too. We came on a Friday night at about 9:30/10? And with just the two of us we probably waited about 10-15 min. Wow! This is truly a divine Ramen House. I died as I bit into the pork buns. The bun texture was soft and the meat was was out of this world. The experience kept getting better after we had the Ramen. Out of this world delicious and plan on coming back! Went to Asa Ramen with family. My overall opinion of the place is "eh." It's a mom and pop place and I know that it's new. There definitely needs to be some improvement. 1) the menu doesn't tell you what is in each of the Ramen choices. We asked our waitress and she was very helpful. 2) we put in our order and 20+ mins later noticed that the people around us who had come in later were getting their food. Turns out there was a malfunction and our order never got placed. We had to re-order. This also happened again in the same trip when we ordered more gyoza. 3) the ramen is average if not just a little below average. I hope things can improve but at this point I'd say I was disappointed, by the food and the service. read more

Asa ramen was busy but my wife and I were seated in about 15 minutes. It's not a big restaurant by any means but service relatively quick and friendly. Prices are lower than many other ramen places in Utah. I ordered the tonkatsu shoyu ramen which was savory. The quantity of green onions was a bit much but it didn't sacrifice the umami of the ramen broth. My wife and I shared a karaage chicken. It comes with a slice of lemon and a sesame dressing dipping sauce. Dark chicken meat is used and it's battered and fried. It wasn't the best karaage chicken I've had but squeezing some lemon juice helped cut the fat and add a bite each portion I ate. I didn't care for the sesame dressing. If you're by yourself or with one other person, you should get seated pretty quickly. If you're 5+, it'll probably take more than 20 minutes. read more

The broth has good flavor, the pork was tender, and the egg was good. The mushrooms in the ramen were tasteless (a little disappointing). I had to add some chili oil for some spice. The ramen broth is not served spicy at all. What I really liked is that they offer a full bowl size or half bowl. First ramen place I've been to that offers that. Over all I liked it. There wasn't anything that stood out from other ramen joints I've been too, but it's close to my house, so why not? GET THE PORK BUN APPETIZER! Glad to see a ramen place in Utah County! We ordered some gyoza and Shoyu ramen and they were both pretty good. The gyoza was perfectly marinated, although I wish there was more than 5 per plate. The ramen broth was a bit bland but the noodles and egg were cooked perfectly. One downfall of this place is how hot it is. Not sure if the AC was broken at the time of our visit or if the open-ish kitchen heated up the place. But not as enjoyable eating hot soup in a hot box. I would give this place a try to get your ramen fix. If the owners are reading this, I'd recommend some outdoor tables. read more

Bravo. A very good ramen shop with legitimate ramen in Orem. People, come and eat here. It's cheap, it's good, it's local. Hopefully, it's figured out it's stride. Some of the reviews obviously have valid points. You can see that in the pictures where eggs have fully cooked yolks. My picture shows a perfect egg. You can also see and taste that it's marinated. We had a well prepared Gyoza. I had the Shoyu Ramen and the wife had the Tonkatsu. I normally get Tonkatsu. It's certainly the hardest to made and get right. They did a good job, but it's missing the level of unctuousness you get with the best. The Shoyu was clean, fresh, and still had a good level of umami. The noodles are the correct type for the ramen. They were cooked correctly when I had them. The chashu was very good, but again, missing that little something from the best places. That said, outside of Ramen by Toshio Sekikawa on a good day, you won't do better than Asa. There's a couple places adding ramen in SLC I haven't tried, but I don't expect them to be better. read more

If you know your ramen you know what to look for. This place has it all, very simple menu, the place is tiny which is just the same look and feel of any real ramen place in Japan. The service is quick. The food is all about ramen, broth and noodles - cooked to perfection! When I first saw this place was opening soon I was extremely excited. Based on my google search Asa Ramen has a location in California. I checked their Facebook page, of course, and messages them to ask when they will open officially. Although I didn't get a response that was okay. My husband and I are very particular when it comes to ramen. He came here earlier to get lunch and after work as soon as he knew they were open. I knew I had to try it too so brought my husband so he is having ramen the second time of the day. He said there were three men who were also there when he had lunch so at least 4 second timers that day. Food - Th broth for chicken and pork are extremely good. No need to Doctor the soup you eat as it is. Noodle is cooked perfectly. Appetizers (gyoza and fried chicken) I prefer the gyoza but both are good Service - Fast and friendly. Any suggestions? I wish they would not use 'canned' bamboo shoots. That kind of ruined it for me. I like everything fresh and if it's hard to get fresh bamboo shoots I would recommend replacing it with bean sprouts instead. read more

Boom! Ramen has come to the Provo/Orem area. It's what we've been waiting for. They even brought pork buns (Chashu) with them (which, for the record, are soft, chewy and delicious like you would want them to be). We can finally rejoice in the savory broths and soft noodles of ramen nearby. I got miso. My friend got tonkotsu. Both were really good. Someone said something about the eggs not being marinated(??), but mine was dark on the outside, so I think they are marinated. And, my yoke was the perfect amount of runny and solid. Both ramen broths were delicious. We even got gyoza too (it was a real party at our table). What a great day.
