We were warmly greeted and quickly seated by the host. Our waitress (Audrey) brought us a dish of freshly made chips and dipping sauce, giving us time to look over the lunch special menu. The Kung Pao Chicken had a mild spicy sauce that didn't detract from the taste of the dish. The Chow Mein was very tasty. The Cashew Chicken had plenty of cashews and good flavor. The dining area was simple. What caught my eye was the host station - the decorations were all made of LEGOs! We have been coming to Shoots for years. My go to is always their Mongolian beef. Their spring rolls are the best. Friday night l got out of my comfort zone and ordered the Black Peppered Beef Steak, it was the best. The food always comes out sizzling. The staff is always helpful and works to make you feel like family. In my opinion Shoots is the best in the valley. I absolutely love the sesame seed chicken, it's hands-down my favorite dish. Perfectly crispy with just the right amount of sweetness. The sweet and sour chicken is a close second; the flavor is amazing. I also regularly get the beef chow mein, its rich flavors and generous pieces of tender meat make it a solid choice. And the lemon chicken I really appreciate that it's grilled it adds a nice touch you don't always see. Highly recommend! read more

The ambiance is interesting, very purple but the food was good depending on what you order. I went safe with the sesame chicken and they knocked it out of the park. Yummy place to get quality chinese food! I tried their BBQ pork buns, crab cheese puffs, and house fried tofu. I loved the pork buns. They had a great texture with the hot outside being nice and crisp while the inside was soft. The addition of honey for dipping was wonderful and really helped elevate them. The crab cheese puffs were fairly mediocre though. There just wasn't much cream cheese/crab meat inside them so 80% of the actual puff was just the fried coating. My entree was delicious though! It's hard to tell from the photo but it was a moderate to large serving of big veggies with lots of fried tofu beneath them. The tofu was fried really well. Firm outside with a soft but flavor filled inside. Great tasting veggies. May have been a tad too spicy for me though because I had a tummy ache for a few hours after I finished my entire meal. My mom snagged the sweet and sour pork and I tried a few bites of that and really enjoyed it! Definitely a high quality and flavorful meal! I'd skip the crab cheese puffs but everything else was great. Also, the chips and 'dip' they bring to the table while you wait for your food was super good. The chips tasted super fresh, fresh enough that I'd assume they were fried in house and the sweet dipping sauce made it a tasty little treat before my meal came. Good food! read more

We are new transplants from California! I have been craving Chinese food and just didn't know where to go! The wife and I were walking around this outdoor market place and saw this place! A family was walking out and I asked how was the food! They said it was great and they had a good lunch deal as well. We walked up to the door and they had just closed for the lunch, and would open up at 3pm. Unfortunately we were not able to come back until a few days ago! Wow, I'm impressed the portions are good, service was good, ambiance fun. We now have an official Chinese restaurant to go to now in Utah. Shoots is located in Riverwoods in the Provo river bottoms, which has a fun vibe with lots of great stores and restaurants. Shoots has great food, some of the best Chinese food around. We love their Lemon Chicken, Pepper Beef and Green Beans, Honey Walnut Shrimp and Sweet and Sour Pork. Noodles and Ham Fried Rice is a must too. Always very attentive service, and they give you fried wontons and sweet and sour sauce for dipping as you sit down, a little something to munch on- good for those that get grumpy when they're hungry! read more

There are so many great options that you're pretty much guaranteed to find something you'll like. I've been craving some good hot and sour soup for the last week or so and I remembered that this place has great lunch specials that come with it! I got some soup, an egg roll, some fried rice, walnut chicken, and a fountain drink for around $13. I also ordered some edamame. The waitress was really attentive and the food came out super fast. It smelled so good that I forgot to take pictures of it until I had already eaten half of it. There really isn't anything on their menu that isn't good. Good Chinese food in Utah is my white whale. What was once myth is now reality: decent Chinese exists in Utah County. Shoots took absolutely forever to get us our food, but it was worth the wait. Torn between giving this place 4 or 5 stars- the things we love are definitely 5/5, while others are just okay. So 4 is a compromise! Everything we have had is good, but here are the three things you absolutely have to get: sesame chicken (tastes like a combo of sesame and orange chicken in the best way) Hot and sour soup- the best we've had! Beautiful bamboo themed decor. Great service, friendly and prompt. We had the hot garlic chicken and they were willing to make it mild. Great flavor and tender. Loved the pot stickers. They compared to PF CHANGS pot stickers and I love those. Enjoyed the Sesame chicken too. Edit one year later: We returned the next December and still love it. They have salt and pepper chicken that is gluten free. We still enjoy pot stickers (not gf) quit a bit. I enjoy the environment. It was a warmer restaurant than I usually experience. This is one of the better Chinese restaurants I've dined at. I'm very obsessed with Chinese food and I'm always on the hunt for great places and this was a great surprise. It was a little out of the way but worth the drive. The dishes were fresh and creative and the flavors were distinct and fantastic. For our entrees I had General Tsao's chicken. My wife had orange beef and we both got a side of fried rice. We also had spring rolls. The chicken had a tasty spice, yet not hot for the sake of being hot. All the dishes came out hot from the kitchen which is a plus for me. The service was great. There's not a lot of reasonable options for Chinese in Utah County. Once you add a requirement you can have a beer, or glass of wine, it's limited to Shoots and P.F. Changs. In that light, they do well. It gives you 80% of Chang's for less money and it's locally owned. That said, it suffers from the same problems. It's overly sweet. The spicy isn't -- even if you ask for it that way. It's Chinese comfort food, there's no fine dining dishes. I appreciate being brought here again on a business meal, because it's not part of my regular rotation. read more

We had been eating at Shoots for decades. In fact, while visiting from Virginia this last week. We dined twice for dinner. This last time our server was excellent. The food was not. The wonton soup was flat, watery and only warm. Virtually every dish was sub-par. We sent back the garlic chicken for being too tough to eat. We were told they would not replace it because it was as good as it gets. We knew this to be false because have had that dish multiple times over the years. We were told since we ate some, the best they could do for us was a 50% credit for that dish. I asked to see the manager. A young cocky guy came and told me , with a smirk, all he would do is reduce the garlic chicken by half. We are done with Shoots in Orem. I bravely ventured directly into the heart of Provo, UT in search of Chinese food, something more delectable than Panda Express, and hopefully offering a gluten free menu. I know Provo has a stereotype of being full of super weird Mormons at BYU (Mormon owned University), but I grew up in Utah and felt comfortable. Here are a list of actual things I saw in the courtyard: 1- couple slow dancing to the musac playing on speakers. Please note that nobody else was dancing. 2- boy performing "feat of strength" near a girl with whom I can only guess he was trying to mate. Said boy performed a garbage can version of a vertical leap box jump. (He made the jump, so I guess it means he won the girls affection). 3- group of long-boarders who each, in turn, rolled off the curb, didn't land the "jump" and their board coasted and smashed into the fountain. 4- back to Boy performing feat of strength, there is a superfluous third-wheel boy also with the group. After feat of strength, both boys break into king-fu inspired dance contest / posturing contest. Third boy "wins" by taking hat of box boy and throwing it in the fountain. (Boys appears to be college age) 5- third wheel boy returns wet hat to box boy, at which point box boy "smears" hat on fair lass, which I assume means the mating ritual is complete. 6- group of girls, one wearing a high school graduation gown (or maybe college...I don't know), but it's NOT graduation. Also, it's night and their camera does not have a flash. Photos unlikely to develop. So if yelp reviewer has read this far into this nonsense, restaurant was listed as $$, so I was hoping it was be a little higher caliber, but alas it was terrible. I told the waitress I was gluten free (I have celiac disease, I can't have gluten). Here's a list of everything she brought AFTER telling her I couldn't have gluten. 1-wonton chips and sweet/sour sauce 2- my actual meal (they breaded and deep fried my gluten free chicken) 3- fortune cookie I think the only two things I know for certain were gluten free were my glass of ice water and the mint flavored toothpick I took while leaving the restaurant. #ProvoUtah read more

We had a group of 5 adults, 3 children and one baby. It was a weekday so we got seated right away. They brought out wontons with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. We ordered lettuce wraps with the chicken filling, it was so good we ordered a second batch. For the main course we got Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Beef with Broccoli, House Special Tofu and Kung Pao Chicken. Although we have had many of these dishes at other Chinese Restaurants their seasonings were slightly different and the flavors exploded in our mouth. It was fantastic! Some of the kids are picky eaters but they dove into some of the food that initially they were hesitant to try. My wife and I used to go to Shoots all the time, and we have always loved it. It ended up being a bit out of our price range for a while, but we are finally doing better and got excited at the thought of going to shoots again. She ended up getting sick and didn't want to go in so we decided to order take out last night. We ordered medium wonton soup, pork shoots fried rice, and sesame chicken. which came out to $31.78. I went in with 2 $20 dollar bills and passed the money over and when she came back with the change there were no coins, just a $5 and 3 $1's. I had been planning on giving a tip, but at that point I thought better of it because she couldn't even bother giving me the right change. I got home and opened up the takeout boxes, only to find what I can only assume is half of the actual portions you're supposed to get (based on previous experience with shoots). The fried rice barely covered the bottom of the takeout box, and there was hardly enough sesame chicken to have as a snack, let alone be an addition to a meal. The only thing that we felt like came with enough was the soup, which was kind of bland but that's not the point I'm making here. I decided to call and tell them how completely unhappy we were with it, as the 3 supposed meals weren't enough to feed my wife, myself, and my 13 year old daughter, (when in the past we had ordered the same thing and had it come with much more). Much to my surprise the manager told me that I could come in and get a $10 gift card, which was a nice offer, so I asked if instead, because the fried rice was only $9.49, if we could just get some of that because we were all still hungry, so she agreed that would be fine. I also let her know that I didn't really care about the last $.22 cents but she needs to let the girl at the front desk know that it's very much illegal to not present all of the change, and it's up to them whether or not they want to leave a tip, to which she told me they normally just keep it cause people always just leave it anyways... I showed up and the girl at the front desk was very sarcastic with some of the things she said, but then the manager came up and said "you obviously need this" and handed me the $.22 cents. No kidding, it was almost exactly like the scene from the movie "waiting" where you know they were doing it to be a complete ass. Now even though I left, unfortunately our horrible experience didn't end there, because a little while later that night (last night) I ended up with horrible food poisoning and was stuck on the toilet for 3 hours, which just leads me to believe that they also fucked with the food like in the movie waiting as well. I will NEVER go back, and I will make sure every single one of my friends and family that have previously gone to shoots never go back as well. read more

We were supposed to get In right away but there was some delay In Getting the table ready. Instead of making us wait, they took our drink and appetizer order from us so it would be ready when we sat down. Loved that. The food is really good. They have the basic Chinese items you can feel comfortable ordering, like kung pao (just the right amount of heat in my opinion) and sweet and sour (breaded but not so much that you lose what's inside), but also a few unique items worth trying. We tried the BBQ buns. Instead of steaming them, they deep fried them. Really unique and tasty. I can see why some people might say it is overly sweet, but not any more that PF's or similar restaurants. Sorry America. That's just how we do it these days.
