The best dine-in casual Chinese food we have found in Utah after eight years of trying. In fact it's as good as the best Chinese we've eaten in California, New York or Hawaii. Clean, uncluttered, pleasant ambiance, prompt service, and portions that were filling without being obscene. If you're looking for a fantastic lunch special deal, this is the place! Everything tastes super fresh and well made. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of their combos! The egg drop soup is super tasty, and their wontons are DELICIOUS. The only critique I have is that I wish more wontons can with the combo. We have been going to China Wok for years. The food is good and service was consistent. Lately as they have gotten busier, the service has lapsed. The last two times we have ordered take-out the time we were told it would take was not accurate. I do understand that food may be a little slower on busy night but 3X the quoted wait time is ridiculous. After waiting for almost an hour this last time, I tried to be polite (unlike the other customers waiting who had also been told falsely about the wait time) but it was annoying. Had I been told honestly that the wait would be 45 min- 1 hour when I called we would have chosen another restaurant that night but returned when they were less busy. ​As it stands the last two take outs were extremely late and the last dine in required us to go ask for the check after waiting for almost 1/2 hour for the server to return. I am happy that business is going so well for them but in the future we will be eating at a restaurant where the staff is upfront on wait times and attentive to customer needs. read more

The skinny: A pretty tasty Chinese restaurant. Serving size a little inconsistent. Online ordering is amazing! We'll be back. Beef lo mein: Great seasoning and veggie-to-beef ratio. Beef is tender and nicely cooked. A very generous portion; could last two meals easily. Walnut shrimp: This was the most disappointing dish of the 3 we got. Presentation-wise, we felt gypped. Our $5 sweet and sour chicken had the ham fried rice and egg roll in the same container, so even though it was a similar portion of meat it looked more generous (and a better deal) than the shrimp. But even if presentation was addressed we would still like to see more protein for a $12 dinner entree. The shrimp was tender and well-breaded. The walnuts weren't overly sweet. The sauce was certainly creamy, but a little bland. We'll have to order this again in a few months to see if anything changes. Sweet and sour chicken: At $5 (Tuesdays only) this meal was pretty delicious. Lots of sauce (seasoned with onions, green peppers, and pineapple) and it wasn't sickeningly sweet. The ham fried rice was flavorful and not super salty. The egg roll wasn't anything to write home to mom about, but it was a nice addition to the lunch order. The online ordering was quick and easy. I now have an account and can track my China Wok orders. The system was intuitive. I didn't get an estimated wait time for my pickup order nor did I get a phone call when my order was ready. I'd like to see one or both of those changes be put in place in the future. When I arrived about 50 minutes placing my order my food was ready and still hot, but I wonder how long it'd been sitting out on the counter waiting for me. Granted, I picked up my order, but the quick glance I got of the interior of the restaurant earns 5 stars. The tables and booths looked brand new and everything looked clean. The service was great. Per the recommendation of friends and the curiosity of my wife, tonight we ate at the China Wok. I will start by pointing that my table felt sticky. My experience could have been better should this not have been my first impression of the restaurant. The food was just ok but nothing remotely special. We had two "family dinners". Granted these were generous portions, but the flavor was subpar. The rice tasted a few days old and my wife described the teriyaki chicken as having a plastic feeling to it. The service, though polite, lacked as well. We had to remind a worker that we had order appetizers almost as we were done with the dinner. They came to our table cold and tasted old. I like the food here but have to give a below average rating due to the kitchen. If you want to eat in set some time aside because this is the slowest kitchen in American Chinese Restaurant history. Ordering was easy and convenient. Delivery was slightly late, but not a big deal. What WAS a pain was the phone call I got from the delivery driver telling me that there was nobody home as he was trying to deliver. I confirmed that he was in front of my house and then went to the door to figure out why he hadn't rung the bell. There was nobody in front of our house, so I called the driver back and told him that he was at the wrong house, and restated our address. He muttered something and hung up on me and arrived about 3 minutes later (I'm thinking he just stopped at the first house with the same number without paying attention to the street name). He came up to meet me on the porch and told me he forgot the receipt so I'd have to sign a blank scrap of paper with my phone number on it. He told me the total and I wrote it on the paper at which he indicated that I was forgetting something. I didn't understand, but then he said "delivery is free?" Had I been thinking I would have reminded him that I had a $4 delivery charge already rolled into the total, but I went ahead and added another $2. I may be wrong, but I think demanding a tip on top of a delivery fee when the delivery was so messed up is rude. The Pon Pon chicken and Sesame Chicken that I had ordered was either REALLY over cooked, or it had been scooped into to-go containers from a buffet table that it had been on for quite a while. I don't recommend ordering either of these dishes. However, my husband liked the beef lo mein which appeared much fresher than the other main dishes. I thought the egg rolls were good too. They weren't completely grease-soaked like I've gotten from other Chinese takeout places, and they had good flavor. Yes you are forced to Whitefy your foods and that results in strange additions like carrots in everything and a noticeable absence of any sort of vegetable that is actually Asian (Ong choy, bok choy, choi sum, etc.) but we still enjoyed your food. The sweet and sour shrimp was excellent, mixed vegetable was excellent, egg rolls were excellent, mapo tofu was bizarre (But we'll assume this was super extra White-ified and forgive you for this) and my children loved the plain noodles. We waited an Hour and half to pickup our order, waited in store, saw the food sit for 45 minutes finally asked for a refund after waiving down and employee, was offered the food that had been sitting. We declined the food that had been sitting not even under a heat lamp and asked again for a refund, then the employee disappeared for another 15 minutes and came back with new food. I have yet to have a good experience here but every now and then the man wants Chinese and we go here because it's the closest to us and we're feeling lazy (and amnesiac, apparently).
