In all honesty, I can't give this place a 5.0 only because it's not actually in Italy. That said, it's the closest I've found in Utah to the real deal -- both in flavor and in price. The focaccia, fresh handmade pasta, and proper ragu are all legit and feel like something you'd get over there, not just "Italian-inspired." I do wish they offered pizza, especially a true Neapolitan-style, which I still haven't found anywhere in the state. Service is solid, the space is cozy with a small outdoor area, and it has a genuine neighborhood feel. I'll happily make the drive from Davis County any time I need a serious pasta fix.

I would highly recommend this place!! Everything was delicious, although I was disappointed they don't serve wine. I love the different focaccias. All of the pastas were so fresh too! Get a reservation because this is a really small location.

Quiet and cozy restaurant. Not great drink options, but the focaccia was excellent. The meatball appetizer is phenomenal. The tomato soup wasn't great, but they didn't charge me for it. The pesto gnocchi, the pesto lasagna, the carbonara and Panna cotta were all extremely delicious. I've been back several times this week. The roasted potatoes are mid and a little plain, but tasted good. I wouldn't get the potatoes again unless they were with a sauce of some kind.

Sitting here in the man cave, content with scrolling FB when I see a posting for the top 10 "ethnic" restaurants in the SLC area... there was Mastra... my friends just went then middle of the day on Wednesday. Sitting here watching the US Open when I get a call, not a text but an actual phone call... from my friends who were just there, wanting to have an early dinner at MASTRA's.4 pm walk in. The place does take reservations but there are maybe 15 dining tables??? Plus, if you go later my concern is they will run out of focaccia. Just sayin'... I've been here 3 years and this is my top two places I've dined. Appealing decor, understated elegance. We got seated immediately, got settled and a couple minutes passed when the server, Jayden arrived with a carafe of water. The water was served room temperature and filtered. He apologized for being late... his timing was perfect... we started with the complimentary Italian bread with the crusty crust and moist bread. At the table is an EVOO with balsamic vinegar dispenser for dipping... we ordered the bruschetta (a must get) and the olive oil infused focaccia ( there are five different toppings, all looking tasty).... We all ordered the Bucatini. A spaghetti pasta, perfectly al dente, sauce folded in with a topping of pancetta... hunks/chunks of Italian BACON!!! The tiramisu was the best I'd ever had accompanied with a perfectly made dry cappuccino. If you're looking for a great place with good food, I recommend MASTRA's.

Still just delicious and the best Italian food we have in Utah county. The menu has expanded and they've added new items. The pesto is still my hands down favorite. Nothing else quite matches up. And the bruschetta is always fresh and hits the spot!

One of the best Italian restaurants I have ever been to. The service was great and the dishes they served would make me want to go back there again and again. I recommend their cherry tomato focaccia paired with the caprese salad. True Italian flavors

Definitely a must try if you are looking for authentic Italian. The entire menu looks incredible, which did not make our decision easy. We started off by ordering some of the fresh focaccia bread. We decided to try the olive and the onion focaccia. It was absolutely delicious! I can definitely see why this is one of the items they are known for. It is extremely flavorful and a perfect way to start the meal. As a huge pesto fan, I knew I had to try it! It was a tough choice between the Lasagna al Pesto Genovese and the Trenette al Pesto Genovese. I ultimately decided on the lasagna, and it did not disappoint! The flavor of the pesto is absolutely delicious and the fresh pasta is amazing. You can absolutely tell that it was made from scratch, I can't say enough about how flavorful this dish is. My wife had the Spaghettone Aglio Olio e Peperoncino. Again the flavors of the olive oil and garlic were perfect! Then you get a perfect kick of cayenne that ties everything together! It's a very cute and cozy little space that makes you feel welcome. The service for a Saturday afternoon was a little slow as we watched people get their food that had sat down after us. There was no need to complain at all as our server noticed this. He apologized for the slow service and comped our focaccia bread. We will definitely be back in the near future to try more of the menu!

I have been eyeing Mastra for a few months now! Make a reservation if you'd like the full experience! We came here unplanned and ordered to go it took less than 20 mins! To sit inside it would have been an hour wait. Great Staff, clean inside, decent amount of seats. The Foooooooood was amazing! We got the Caprese Salad, Trenette Al Pesto Genovese, Rigatoni Al Ragú Bolognese, Panna Cotta Caramello. I will highly recommend 20/10. Only thing that would have made the meal better is if we dined in for the experience! The bread is worth the carbs! For me at least hehe

This place is fantastic! Very authentic tasting Italian food and I hear the local Italians actually come here so it must be realistic Italian food done well! The vibe is very simple modern Italian, very pretty and clean inside. The service was great as was our waiter. Attentive and kind. She recommended the spicy pasta I got and it was delicious! You can tell everything is very fresh and made from scratch. The prices range from $15-20's. Would definitely recommend the pastas and focaccia and even the panna cotta! I'm not the biggest fan of panna cotta but theirs was the most flavorful and best I've ever had, even compared to Volters Osteria and some of the boujier places downtown SLC so that's saying something!

Tiny authentic Italian spot in an Am Fork strip mall- kind of hard to spot at night if you didn't know it was there. But great fresh pasta and focaccia! And when I say Tiny - I mean you can see and count all the tables as soon as you walk in. The menu is thru the QR code and it's not that big. The prices for the dishes and pasta are not small either. They do give a small bread basket when we sat down and offer a carafe of water instantly without asking. I appreciated that. My friend and I raved about our fresh pastas and the focaccias we choose. We chose two different pastas so we can try two different ones for our 1st visit here. I told the waiter it was our 1st time and he gave his suggestions/ favorites. The pasta came out fresh and hot- very expertly placed in a bowl. The bowl is deceiving! It's more than it looks. Very filling. Why 4 stars? 2 things- --The place is tiny, not very private , like our table was just a few steps from the front door. But the waiter did tell us they are trying to find a bigger place which would be great. -- the ONE unisex bathroom. First off, as a woman I already hate unisex bathrooms. Men often miss- yuck. And I tried to go and it either doesn't properly lock or the guy didn't lock it but I walked in on a guy! Ewww :/ But in the end---I recommend coming here and I intend to come back for special occasions. Btw- you can call ahead to get a reservation or check the wait and asked to be put on the waitlist.

4.5 star. Food is great but the portions are very small considering how pricey they are. I ordered the Pesto Genovese, and even though I already knew this place in general give small portions, I was still shocked when I got it. It honestly felt like a "happy meal" size. This alone was $14, and I was not full. The pasta was very delicious, though. Loved the rich pesto flavor and the texture of the pasta. I also tried the Pomodoro e basilico, and I didn't like it much. The sauce was just average. A bit surprised that the server said it was a popular and signature dish. I think I would still be back but only like once a year for special occasions when I would spend more money.

I ate here last night with 4 other people. Here is what we ordered: Caprese Salad: 4 Solid Caprese Salad. Trenette al Pesto Genovese: 5 This tied for my favorite pasta of the meal. Delicious. The flavors blended very well. Carbonara: 5 My other favorite pasta dish of the meal. Very good carbonara. Rigatoni al Pomodoro e Basilico: 3 I felt the tomato was overpowering in the flavor profile of the sauce. The person who ordered this loved it though, so if you enjoy a sauce that is very tomato-y, you will enjoy this dish. Tonnerelli Cacio e Pepe: 3 While this dish wasn't awful, I didn't love this dish. The sauce was a little bland. When my daughter-in-law tasted it, she thought it almost tasted gamey. I did not take my leftovers home. Panna Cotta Berries: STRONG 5! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I thought panna cotta was mid before I tasted Mastra's version. We ordered a 2nd one to eat at the restaurant and a 3rd to take home! Tiramisu without Coffee: 4 I really appreciate that Mastra offers a tiramisu version without coffee. This was very good and I would recommend this to anyone that likes tiramisu. So all the pasta we ate was the PERFECT texture. I loved the pasta in all the dishes. Overall this was a wonderful restaurant and I'm looking forward to returning to try other pasta dishes and enjoy that panna cotta again!

Was seated right away. The waiter made some good recommendations. We ordered the bruschetta for an appetizer and I loved the fresh tomatoes and basil. Excellent appetizer. However, we were not even done with our first slice before our main courses came out. And then after finishing most of our main course, the waiter came over with to-go boxes without us ever asking for a check or boxes. Everything felt very rushed. The cafe is smaller and there were people waiting to be seated but we were only there for not even 45 minutes and felt very hurried. The lasagna was alright in my opinion. I felt like the beef/pork needed a tad more sauce and I never could figure out the defining flavor of the dish. Would have loved the fresh tomato sauce to come through more or a bit more spice profile.
