    Grilled Local Calamari
    David N.

Artisan is truly a fitting name for this restaurant. We've been coming here consistently for some time and the ambiance, appetizers, entrees, desserts and service have been consistently stellar. It's Independence Day and the weather is beautiful so we decided to visit Artisan today to dine outdoors. This was a great decision because we had another superlative experience. I highly recommend the Calamari appetizer which is cooked to tender perfection. I also recommend the Crispy Duck Confit entree which melted off the bone. If you ever decide to visit Artisan and yearning for a great dessert, opt for the Peanut Butter Mousse dessert. What a great way to celebrate part of our 4th of July with another wonderful dining experience here. Happy 4th of July!

Went to a conference at Artisan and the patio was definitely the star, relaxed, pretty, and perfect for hanging out. The Dela Margarita (with tequila, prickly pear, lime, and agave) was amazing and easily the highlight. The food was fine, salad was fresh, chicken entree was okay but small, and dessert felt more like a snack than a treat. I'd go back just to sip cocktails on that patio with the live music.

This restaurant is very classy! Go for a special occasion. The atmosphere is amazing and the table settings are perfect. The food was fine. Our appetizer was great but our main courses lacked flavor. Perhaps it was an off day, we've been there a few times before after spa treatments and the food was amazing. They have ample parking and valet at night.

The food is a 4, but the rest of the experience is a 3. Artisan delivers fine dining food with fine dining prices. The average entree price was around $45 and appetizers were around $25. The menu had lots of compelling choices, but mainly seafood. There are fewer options if you're not into seafood. I had a melon gazpacho for an appetizer and stonington sea scallops for an entree. The soup was as one might expect for fine dining. The sea scallops were tender and sweet. The rest of the table had beef carpaccio and chicken mousse for appetizers. Others at the table order lobster carbonara, scallops, monkfish, and hangar steak. All the dishes looked and tasted great. Unfortunately, the service was slow. We found ourselves with long waits between courses. That's probably on the kitchen being understaffed. However, the service had some gaps. The most noticeable, was the one of the people at our table dropped some butter on the middle of table. I waited all evening to see if any of the waitstaff would quickly wipe it up, but they never did. They just kept servicing our table and laying dishes around this glob of butter sitting on the table :) When the bread basket was empty, we had to ask for more bread - maybe they do that to control costs, but with those menu prices, I kind of expected them to refill an empty bread basket. Overall, good food, but give yourself plenty of time for dinner because it's going to take 2+ hours.

Amazing upscale restaurant attached to the Delamar Hotel in downtown Southport. Wine list is very extensive and very pricy. Few if any bottles under $50. The food is wonderful from scallops to steak and pasta, you simply cannot go wrong. The service is what you'd expect from a fine dining venue; efficient, polite and attentive. Use Artisan for special occasions: there are private dining rooms and lots of nooks with tables. The bar is lovely and lively. Valet parking only.

We enjoyed a very tasty dinner to celebrate a birthday. The tuna tartare appetizer was excellent. Both the hanger steak, cioppono and grilled chicken were cooked to perfection. The cheesecake dessert was sublime. Artisans has a good wine list. Our server was knowledgeable. The ambiance made for a special celebration.

    Crispy Montrachet Goat Cheese salad

Artisan features farm-to-table cuisine with a menu that changes daily. From the beginning of the evening to end, this establishment delivers quite the adventure for diners with discerning palettes. Said adventure begins just trying to find the place. Nestled within the Delamar Hotel, the restaurant boasts no visible signage to the casual bypasser, which demonstrated to this patron just how exclusive it tries to be. I was attending New Year's Eve dinner with friends and got there a bit late because I had to circle around to try to find the entrance and parking. After a few laps and some help from GPS, I caught a rain-blurred glimpse of a very, very small sign bearing the restaurant's name. I pulled in and was greeted by an attendant. Note: Bring some cash since parking is valet. The valet is free, but you'll need something with which to tip. NYE offered an a la carte menu until a certain time and then after was prix-fixe. We dined during the a la carte period. Translation: $$$$. We began with a ginger orange cappuccino with citrus créma. Delish! The Crispy Montrachet Goat Cheese salad was perfection. Each square of cheese was adorned in crisp, dry coating with the cheese inside at the perfect consistency. The pairing with red endive and multicolored beets was superb both to eye and palette. The filet mignon was hearty in size and the Marchand de vin sauce delicious. The Roquefort creamed spinach was heavy and filling but very good. The pommes Dauphine (not Dauphinoises) were perfect. Dessert wasn't as stellar. The Granny Smith and Anjou Pear crumble had more crumble than fruit. I didn't bother to take a food porn photo for that. To bring us back to the theme of adventure, the restrooms are located outside of the restaurant beyond the front desk of the hotel. (?) Artisan is an ideal place to go to celebrate a special occasion or take a special date. I would go again in either of those instances. I like the surprise of not knowing what will be on the menu until arrival (or a cheating glance on the website that day).

"Like whippets, they dance in a curly-queue dance Of pulses…read moreand ringing and campfire chants Birds of a feather are flocking outside" (Phish) There are so many nice restaurants in Fairfield, picking one for lunch can be a formidable task. But because it was so cold today, we picked one close to the train station for our lunch for three, and it turned out to be a great choice after our meal at Ryebird. Their website describes Ryebird as "A Neighborhood joint where friends and family meet" and that seems pretty much spot-on. The bar is gorgeous, the dining room is beautifully decorated with red painted walls, dark distressed wood tables, and stainless-steel colored chairs. The service was great, I mean outstanding. Our server Leo was friendly, helpful and very accommodating. We had a few conversations with Manager Thomas who was very charming and a real joy to talk with. And I haven't even gotten to the food yet! OK, here we go! Our party of three went with a small Chicken Soup for The Soul with Cheesy Bread ($14) for me. What's Cheesy Bread? Well, how about three toasted pieces of gooey pizza bread topped with a feta spread and olive oil. My brother-in-law went with their Daily Pot Pie ($23 for Chicken today), with a house-made buttery crust, scratch-made filling, and an added $4 up-charge for a gravy boat full of mushroom bourbon gravy. My wife went with a Roaster sandwich ($18) of pulled chicken, cheddar, BBQ sauce, pickled onion, on a baguette served with fries. We also had an order of Lemon Chili Zucchini ($9) for the table. The food was wonderful, as both the pot pie and the sandwich were devoured. My soup was a pretty big bowl for a "Small" but was loaded with more carrots and celery than chicken. I asked our server Leo if they had any hot sauce, and he asked me how hot did I want it? Ryebird has a few different types in increasing levels of hotness. I asked for the max, and he brought out a little ramekin of some of the hottest hot sauce I ever had. It was pretty much at my upper level of tolerance. I chatted about it with the restaurant manager on the way out, and he was pretty sure it was made with Ghost Peppers, so that explained my thermonuclear mouth numbing reaction. Anyway, we loved our visit to Ryebird. Their food is reasonably priced, portions are generous, the quality is high, and the service is exceptional. What more do you want in a Fairfield County lunch?

I will preface this by saying I'm not a big Buffalo flavor person, but I'm a vegetarian and didn't feel like getting my usual vegetarian app - brussel sprouts. I wanted to expand my palate that evening and surprisingly I actually really liked it. The amount of blue cheese was perfect for me (despite the reviews) as it would have made it too salty and greasy. Next was my entree: Modified Kettle Cooked Zoodles. As a vegetarian, I never have the highest expectations but I was blown away! Chris our server was so sweet to have this customized for me. We took the idea of hubby's Branzino sauce and added more veggies to the Kettle cooked Zoodle dish. It was so yummy! Hubby's Branzino: fish was well cooked, elegant flavors from the Puttanesca sauce with spinach and mashed potatoes were excellent! Faux-ito: I got two, the first was the classic, the second was a mix of strawberry and pineapple. Both delicious mocktails! The Forbidden Pear: hubby got this one. very balanced, not sticky sweet. I can't believe this gem is just sitting here in Fairfield. Not too far off from a night in the city. We will definitely be back!

Three of us stopped in for lunch today, and we had a very favorable experience. Our server was super friendly and helpful, and answered a few questions we had about the preparation of a sandwich. She even ran back to the kitchen to check with the chef and made sure we had the information we were looking for. Their menu is very broad and covers appetizers, tacos, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and bowls. Our lunch was a Southwest Salad ($18.95) with Mojito-lime marinated grilled chicken, crispy romaine, Roasted corn, black beans, pico de gallo, queso fresco, avocado & crispy tortillas with ancho chipotle dressing, Chatham Fish N' Chips ($20.95) with Crispy ale battered cod with fries, tartar sauce, house slaw and lemon wedges, and a Grilled Chicken Caprese Sandwich ($17.95) with Lemon-Pepper grilled chicken breast, roasted red peppers, baby arugula, fresh mozzarella, and pesto aioli served on a toasted Rosemary focaccia. The food was excellent. I had the salad, and the first thing I noticed was there was a LOT of grilled diced chicken on my plate. It was a big portion, certainly enough for two sittings, and I have to say that ancho chipotle dressing was sneaky spicy! I really liked this place. In fact, you should just walk out to the light house during low tide and wait a few hours until you can't see the shore... And Mike C... to my defense and the defense of my classmates, only about 10% of seniors fell under the tube top/gelled hair category. However, I can say that about 95% of us were blacked out before close. I was there a few times during the summer and I have to say, I'm very disappointed about the light crowd. Even though the students are gone, I figured locals and shoobies would pour in more frequently. Regardless, the grape is the epitome of the Fairfield U social scene. My night at the grape (after a hefty pregame at lantern point) would usually start with a few vodka 180's and a half a dozen house shots (which are only $1). Chris, the DJ, pretty much sticks to hip-hop all night. And even though Fairfield might be the least diverse campus on the East Coast, we know how to drink and embarrass ourselves through the art of dance, preferably right next to the dartboards. We also know how to waste money in games like Buck Hunter, Lobster Claw, and Bowling. On Tuesdays, most drinks are $2, and all the time $2 bud light bottles are hard to beat. I've never heard of another bar that supports a shitshow of a water/booze fight the night after graduation and gives out commorative t-shirts to their loyal Fairfield U senior customers.
