Like so many other restaurants in Cincinnati, Arthur's gets a lot of hype for having "the best burger in the city". That being said, it was no surprise to me that my stomach finally convinced me to stop by their Hyde Park location and give the infamous sandwich a try. One delicious meal later, I am happy to say that even if Arthur's isn't my favorite burger in the city, they are definitely up there in the rankings. After arriving at the restaurant, we were seated quickly and had our orders in within a respectable amount of team, even during the busy weekend lunch hour. Of course, all three of us had to give the burgers a shot, and were very happy to find out that we had stumbled in during "burger madness", a promotion they run during certain days of the week in which you basically get unlimited extras on your burger for free. Once our food arrived, we were anything but disappointed. The burgers were cooked perfectly and were thick, juicy, and extremely tasty. The thing I liked most about the burger though is that when I said I wanted it medium, I got medium, something that seems to be an issue at a lot of places. In addition to the excellent food, the inside of Arthur's is also equally as impressive. The wooden bar and booths give the place a feeling of age, while the cartoon celebrities on the wall serve as a unique reminder of the amazing place that is the city of Cincinnati. Arthur's also has a very local feeling, and you can tell that it is definitely a hot spot for Hyde Park locals, with almost everyone greeting everyone else as they walk in the door. It's a casual burger restaurant in Hyde Park. It certainly isn't the biggest place, so I wouldn't come in a large group. After looking at previous reviews, we started with the cheese sticks. These were awesome. You can tell they are homemade from the breading that is used. They weren't too busy, however it seemed like we waited a while for our burgers. We chose to make our own with the chipotle bbq, onions, and cheese. If I could do it over, I would keep it simple and leave off the chipotle bbq. It overpowered the burger. The burger itself was good. It is very thick and juicy. Because they are so thick, order medium well if you would want medium. The food was very tasty, but the service was lacking. The first word that comes to mind when I think of Arthur's is tolerant. I spent one long weekend in Cinci to visit some friends and because Arthur's was walking distance from their place, we closed this place down 4 nights in a row. I've been to plenty of worse places that tolerated a lot less than we put them through, so overall I can't complain. I had the SouthWest Burger that included roasted pablanos, crispy tortilla strips, and chipotle mayo. Really pleased, but am guessing one of their 15 other specialty burgers would have really knocked my socks off. Extensive beer list, decent wine list, yummy burgers, and pretty good non-burger options as well. We stopped by yesterday night before the dinner rush (this place gets CROWDED around 7 pm) and selected fare different than our normal Burger Madness choices. To start, we had the potato skins, which should actually be termed "Potato Pots," if I had anything to say about it. Perfectly circle half-potatoes were stuffed with cheddar, provolone, and bacon. The skins were crispy and delicious and served with a hefty portion of sour cream. I could only eat one, they were huge and I didn't want to ruin my dinner. Only $5 during Happy Hour, though. For dinner, I had the Mexican Chicken Salad. The salad was ice-berg covered in a fresh grilled chicken breast, black olives, jalapenos, cheese, and tomato. It came served with a pretty good salsa and honey-dijon dressing. Pretty good and filling for a salad. My boyfriend ordered the fish sandwich and was pleased with his flaky and greasy cod. For an additional 50 cents he got it topped with loads of cheddar, which he loved. The fries that came served with his sandwich were crispy and hot...I only stole a few :) Atmosphere is very casual. I am all about the burger madness. Both times I've been here, its been on a burger madness day, so lucky me. The burger here are killer, especially when you can completely customize it for $8.99. That's literally madness. Most places have a hard time cooking burgers medium rare, but Arthur's has been perfect every time. I also love the beer battered provolone app. Its fried cheese heaven and you should definitely get it. I would give 5 stars, but my only complaint is from our service on our most recent visit. Our waitress seemed a little annoyed by everything, and was kinda rolling her eyes after walking away from customers. I didn't really like that. Arthur's is one of those uniquely-Cincinnati eateries that everyone in the tri-state area has either visited or at the very least heard of. Located right on the outskirts of Hyde Park Square, Arthur's sets itself apart by avoiding the pretentious, pomposity-like attitude you find in some of the other restaurants in the Hyde Park area. Arthur's doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is; a comfortable, neighborhood hang-out that appeals to a diverse clientele where everyone feels as if they belong. Like all places that fit the above description, Arthur's has good qualities and bad qualities. I wouldn't say the positive outweighs the negative, nor would I say the negative overshadows the positive. Like anything, it all depends on the particular circumstances for each visit. I've been to Arthur's numerous times (always with a group of friends) and there were times when I left thinking, "This is such a great place." And there were some occasions when I left thinking, "This place is such a hole." So let's take a look at both the pros and cons. Let's start positive. First, Arthur's has a great atmosphere. Whether you're eating inside (where you can enjoy the mural featuring a number of Cincinnati celebrities painted in either the late 70's or early 80's) or taking your meal outside on the vine-draped patio, the atmosphere is enjoyable. Professional yet laid-back is a great way to describe it. I do want to point out that of all the restaurants in Cincinnati that features a patio, Arthur's patio is by far my favorite. The burgers are pretty good, as is the chili. Prices are pretty inexpensive, especially for being in Hyde Park. Portions are very generous. And you never feel as if you're being rushed out the door like you might at other places, even when they're busy. The staff is usually friendly. Although that's not always the case. Which leads to the negative. On more than one occasion the staff has made it painfully clear how bored they are to be there. This of course had a direct effect on the service (i.e. it wasn't what I would call good). I remember one time our waiter just forgot to put in one of my friend's order. And when we pointed it out, he was completely nonchalant about it. And while the burgers and chili are always on their game, the rest of the menu is a crap shoot. The side salads are always a good bet, but I'd avoid the bigger ones. The chicken sandwiches (which I've never ordered, but those who were with me have) have never been all that great. Finally I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that every single time I've been to Arthur's, they always manage to screw up at least one person's order in our group. As I mentioned earlier, Arthur's has good qualities and bad qualities. If I had to use just one word to describe this place, it would have to be...inconsistent. Tried Arthur's on a recommendation from a friend while visiting some high school buddies. We were looking for breakfast/brunch, but they don't serve it anymore which was a bummer. Overall the experience was only ok - not horribly disappointing but not great either. The service was pretty good - everyone got coffee, water, tea, etc. refilled promptly and the server was never gone for too long (and she didn't bug us either). The atmosphere was fine - we sat outside on the patio and it was a bit warm but definitely more pleasant than being inside which is really dark. The only problem is that someplace nearby something funky was brewin' - whenever the wind changed just right we got a whiff of the unidentified funk. Food was only ok - tasted good but both my veggie burger and a friend's grilled cheese were hardly warm/melted - I understand that a veggie burger doesn't need a temp, but warm is always helpful. Arthur's is a home town favorite for Cincinnatians and visitors alike. They specialize in burgers, but have some amazing appetizer and sandwich options. Aesthetically, the restaurant reminds you of an older school, Mom & Pop type of place. The lighting is kept somewhat low and it definitely has a smaller feel. Parking can be a bit tough, but there is a hidden (and cheap) pay lot right next to Dancing Wasabi (which is right next to Arthur's). Look for the green P sign and turn into the lot. Tiffany had the Fiesta Burger - Pepper jack, jalapenos, black bean & corn salad, chipotle mayonnaise. She said: "I like how they take the seeds out of the jalapenos so it's got a kick but not so spicy that my mouth is on fire. It seemed that the bean and corn salad was all beans and was not generously placed on the burger. The burger was still yummy though!" Jim had the Chipotle BBQ Burger - Blue cheese, bacon, red onion, an onion ring, & chipotle bbq sauce. I loved this burger and would highly recommend it! You can get a create your own (meaning LOADED any way you want) half pound burger and fries for $7! This is Sunday-Tuesday I believe. Also, discount appetizers and drink specials during happy hour! What really makes this place special to me is the back patio. It's the most romantic patio in the city in my opinion... guys, take a girl here on a date and she'll be immediately impressed. I've enjoyed Arthur's for years, but today, after an exhausting weekend, I was particularly delighted to find them open on Easter Sunday. I'm on the South Beach diet, so bread and other sugars are off-limits, so I was craving the Buffalo Chicken Salad, potentially the greatest chicken salad in the world. Served with a garlic breadstick (I had a little bit!), the salad comes with a plentiful amount of mixed romaine. They load you up in sections with fresh tomato, hard-boiled egg, blue cheese crumbles, a decent amount of blue cheese dressing (perfectly liquid, not chunky) and a sliced breast of chicken covered in spicy buffalo sauce. Thinkin about grabbing the car keys? I know. Arthur's offers plenty of seating options and a great bar sporting many brews. Two separate indoor chambers for eating and one great outdoor area. INCREDIBLE. Went for the Burger Madness on a Sunday and really enjoyed. First off, the decor and the interior itself are really cool and unique. The food was absolutely amazing and our service was just fine as well. Also, went with an order of cheese fries before the meal (on top of the fries that come with the burger because, of course!). Best burger I've ever had in the city. Their potato skins are so, so good. The Cajun fries are enough to make me happy all alone. Burger Madness is the best time to go, but they're open late, so there's really not a bad time to go. Love the vintage bar look, hand painted, quirky little mural, and open air patio area out back--it's a little secret gardeny spot with exposed brick. Great place to enjoy a drink and some food with friends. I'm not a drinker myself, but I've heard good things about the brews. The soft drinks, sadly, are petty flat. No delicious coke with your burger :(. But then you taste the skins, and maybe you don't care so much about the coke. :) Oh, the burgers run rare. The food is generally good, though I don't believe I've ever had anything besides a burger. The beer selection is nice (with a decent selection of micro-brews). There is usually a long wait around dinner, and the quarters are very tight. The service is about what you expect given that the restaurant is usually packed and a long line of people waiting for a table. This is my new go to place for a beer and a burger. The burger madness is a great deal and a great burger. I do not quite understand the menu when it states no more than 6 cheeses when there seems to be only 5 on the menu, but hey, I'm not going to beat them down for that. I have also had the fish sandwich, and it was very good as well. Fries are always criisp and hot. The beer selection is good and changes frequently so you always have something different to try. The atmosphere is cozy, with a seperate bar and restaurant area. This is nice if you want a little less hustle you can sit over in the restaurant only section. I find this place to always have a good crowd, so you may have to wait a bit to get a seat. I know I am having a bad day when I walk in and cannot find a seat at the bar. Very dissapointing...
