Coffee shops with short names and black and white logos--very Bezerkeley. Artís is located in the 4th Street area near the Amtrak station and is far enough away from immediate campus area to get away from the Berkeley bubble vibe but close enough to be convenient
I come here to study. They have tons of tables and seating of all kinds (outdoor, bar in front of roasting station, high tables, normal tables, tiny tables...), as well as wifi and a few power outlets. The inside is super aesthetic!!
What I've had:
- Iced soy vanilla latte: AMAAAZING!! I never get vanilla in my lattes, but they make the vanilla in-house, and it's divine. Not overpoweringly sweet but sweet enough to have a distinct vanilla taste and rich flavor. The latte here is SO SMOOTH!! I'm on a mission to find the best iced soy latte in the area, and this ranks towards the top of my list. TRY THE VANILLA!! DO IT!!
- Iced pumpkin spice latte with soy: I am as basic as it gets, yet I stay away from the PSL at Starbucks. I had it once, and it was kinda just okay...I was trying to get into the fall mood and saw that they had just added a pumpkin spice latte to their menu at Artís and decided to give it a try. AND WOW I was impressed!! This ain't your average PSL. The spices they add give it an amazing flavor, and the drink itself isn't overpoweringly sweet. You can taste the autumnal flavor and pumpkin-ness!!
- Iced matcha latte with almond milk: By default, this comes with their house-made vanilla. The first time I had it, I was kinda confused because I thought it was just going to be matcha powder and milk, but there was a sweet taste to it...and so the I asked the barista at the register if they add any sweetener, and he told me about the vanilla. I'm a huge fan of their vanilla, but the second time I got this drink, I asked for no vanilla, but I still wasn't super impressed...maybe it was because the almond milk was too overpowering and gave it a watery, almond-y taste??
Maybe I'll try this again with soy or regular milk
- Tea: THEY HAVE A VARIETY OF TEAS!! I've had a few of them (peach and apricot green, jasmine with flowers green, monks blend), and they have never disappointed!! They put loose leaf tea in steeping bags and use that to brew. The leaves come from Compassion Tea Company
- Scone: I usually get the cheddar veggie one (the veggies in it usually vary), and it's savory and delicious!! The texture is nice, and there's so much flavor packed in each and every bite. Ask for it warmed up for a nice mid-morning treat
- They also have LaCroix, bottled Boylan's sparkling water cans, House Kombucha, and a variety of other things in the grab and go fridge (juice, juice shots, bougie water)
Bottom line: Another great and much welcomed addition to Berkeley coffee culture!! Kinda pricy, but you can definitely taste the quality. If you're planning on coming here to work and staying a while, you might want to come kinda close to the time they open, as it fills up easily. But it does die down later in the afternoon. I just wish they had longer hours and were open until a little later in the night :( read more
