Found this great spot on Yelp while dropping in for the night. I needed to find a coffee spot before I continue on with my road trip. I pulled up and there was front parking. Thank the lucky parking gods for that one! It was meant to be. Artis Coffee is definitely a place where you would want to hang out for a couple of hours. The ambiance is bright, warm and inviting and I can see myself staying and reading a couple of chapters from a book. Staff was friendly and prompt. I watched them execute each drink carefully and swiftly, all still being friendly to the customers. I just wanted something easy, a black cold brew. Normally, I would add cinnamon to it but they had cold brew where they infused cinnamon! Best tasting cold brew I had for awhile and it was smooth because I didn't have to add the spice and have it powdery and clumpy. I also grabbed a chocolate chip cookie to go and that had to be the best chocolate chip cookie I have had in a long time. Thin, chewy but crisp on the outside. the vanilla latte here is the best i've had in berkeley area, the coffee is rich and strong enough to make the latte feel balanced, the sweetness is not overpowering but just enough to compliment the richness of the coffee. paired with oat milk this drink is perfectly creamy and the latte i've been looking for for three years in berkeley. if you're a lover of iced lattes like me definitely give artis a try! the only downside id say is that they do not have a variety of syrup flavors such as caramel or hazelnut, only vanilla and honey lavendar as of right now. but they execute the vanilla so well, you won't be disappointed. read more

The cafe ambience was nice great to study at. I prefer strong matcha, but the iced matcha latte with oat milk was more on the milky side. For my lactose free seekers, milk substitute for oat/almond was additional $.75 charge... umm i mean most cafes here in berkeley charge extra so it wasn't a surprise. However the size to price ratio left me unsatisfied for dropping dollars on this, I probably won't go out of my way to go here for the matcha but there is nice tables and wi-fi to study and it's right in 4th street! read more

Very very cool, airy industrial-chic coffeehouse, much like most artisanal cafe architecture tend to go towards now. A flair for the pretentious, if you will. Coffee is alright, service is courteous. I'm no interior designer, but I really think this space could be utilized better.......... A little underwhelming when this huge warehouse holds only a few bar chairs along a bar stocked with bougie espresso machines. The rest of the empty space feels gratuitous, especially accompanied with no music. Spooky........ HONEY LAVENDER LATTE (w/almond milk): HOOOoooOoOoOo the lavender is STRONG, overpowering the coffee. Not sure if the caffeine or herbal flavor woke me up more. My bf enjoyed the lavender, I enjoyed what remained of the coffee. I've been going to Artis for the past 5 years. It is a staple and a must visit every time I'm in Berkeley. I usually get the vanilla bean latte with oat milk. They use a housemade vanilla which definitely elevates the flavour of the drink. This is my favourite vanilla latte by far.The prices are a little high but expected for the area. There is metered parking in front of the cafe and also two free parking lots. I love the ambiance and the vibe of the place. Definitely recommend! read more

On the pricier side for coffee shops, but delicious lavender lattes. The atmosphere was great, baguette was tasty but a little tough and soggy, you could definitely get a better meal elsewhere. BUT this is a coffee shop where you get some work done, or have a chat with someone over a cup of coffee, rather than a place to grab food. So on that aspect, baguette was yummy(I was also starving). When I first came here, the guy behind the counter bragged that they had the most coffee making supplies ever! And boy did they have coffee making supplies. I'd come by for a mocha, a paleo muffin, and some freshly roasted beans. It was all good. I loved to peruse the wall of coffee making equipment. They had so much that I could do a deep dive on any device, gadget, set up and look at a new one the next time. They had plenty of space so I could wiggle into a seat, the bathroom was always clean and smell free (but that didn't last long) and even the long drink line went by pretty quickly. They had 3-4 people behind the counter slingling drinks and it was pretty cool. But, my how things have changed! I went in and there was even more space because the tables of equipment are gone. They had a tiny refrigerated case with juices, kombuchas and such but gone were the paleo muffins. And gone was my main reason for coming in. The woman at the counter greeted me and was really nice and there was one person behind the counter to sling the drink order, that wouldn't be coming from me. On my first visit (shortly after the opening - we happened to be in the area), the guy bragged that they had a store in Sacramento. I saw online that they had two locations in SF that have since closed. Oh well, they had a good run. read more

My pal Regina W tells me I need to write my reviews more promptly, so here I am writing a review of a coffee shop while I'm still sitting in it and enjoying my pumpkin spiced latte off the seasonal menu. Yes, I'm feeling quite basic today. I must say this latte is damn delicious, but isn't every coffee drink just better when there's oat milk in it? $1 extra for a couple ounces of oat milk is steep, but I paid it like a sucker so I'll shut up about that. The space is huge and there's outdoor seating, which is a plus in my book, but if you're coming here for wifi be prepared to have it so slow it's unbearable. This place is loaded with college kids and wannabe novelists, making this wifi speed a joke. If the seating in here wasn't uncomfortable AF I might actually have given this place the fifth star, because the coffee is good and the proximity to jumping off the freeway as you're passing thru the Bay Area makes this coffee shop a winner. Ambiance was nice and the interior was cute but under no circumstances should you order the matcha. It was disappointingly bland for $6.50 and even with the request of more matcha after I tasted it, it still was just a cup of green milk. My friends had better luck with their coffee. read more

Can't say enough good things about Artis. The coffee coming out of here is just outstanding! The location is super convenient and parking isn't that hard to find with the big parking lot right on the corner. The inside is really beautiful with big windows filling the space with light. (even prettier towards the end of the day when the golden western light comes pouring in). The staff are super welcoming and are alot of fun to chat with. Been here a handful of times and really enjoy the open and quiet atmosphere. They have some outdoor seating in addition to their indoor tables and a ton of natural light pours in, which makes it a relaxing place to do some work. Staff is always friendly and they have a range of drinks and sweet and savory pastries. On my recent visit I got a small iced honey lavender latte with almond milk, which was really tasty and refreshing. They also had some pastry samples on their counter, which was nice. The only qualm I have with Artis is its wifi. Every time I try to get some work done there the wifi either doesn't work at all or keeps dropping. On today's visit I actually didn't manage to connect at all so had to connect to Rejuvenated's guest wifi next door, which unsurprisingly proved to be very slow. Lavender Iced Latte for the win! It's hard to find good lavender lattes and this place definitely has a great option. Definitely on the more expensive side (I paid around $6 with oat milk ) for what you get. I think I would come back though to support this small business! There's some seating outside but very minimal. There were also an absurd amount of flies near the register... don't know what the deal with that was. Their coffee is always really good and I like buying their beans from time to time but as a matcha lover I'm kind of sad that they premake it. I'm really disappointed that I had to come back to update my review to give Artis a lower rating. I came by yesterday afternoon to order a matcha green latte, and was very rudely treated by the cashier. I was trying to decide which size to get, and asked what was the price difference between regular and large, and the cashier rolled his eyes at me and said "50 cents" and was very visibly impatient with me. Look, I'm sorry if I asked a stupid question, but it's really rude of you to have that kind of attitude toward a customer who asked the question politely. I can also understand if you're trying to get the line moving as there's people behind me, but I think every person deserves their time at the cashier. read more

OK, now I get it. Artís embraces style over substance, but even then, the substance it ain't all half bad. Smart money says order an Ethiopian pourover if you like good pure flavors without added anything other than filtered water and extracted beans. Otherwise, grab an organic honey lavender latte or other specialty drink if you are seeking a morning meal replacement or other type of liquid sustenance before the urban wine tasting rooms on 5th Street finally open. Artís isn't exactly my favorite third wave microroaster in the San Francisco Bay Area, but that's a mighty high bar to have to clear. Even if Artís isn't a world class caffeinated high jumper, it manages to crash into the bar and fall on its tuchus with quite a fair bit of style points, elegance, and class. Hard to be too judgmental about a bronze medal performance like that! Also: awesome gift display featuring a color changing LED light feature on the far left wall with only the best coffee gear you can find this side of Tokyo. Even my top-5 Bay Area coffee hotspots - Devout (Niles Canyon), Sightglass roasting HQ (SOMA), Four Barrel roastery and coffeehouse (Mission), WestsideVerve (Santa Cruz), and Blue Bottle Bay Meadow (San Mateo) - can't offer you a hypnotic looking - and now that I really think about it, it's like dude! kinda freakin me out - coffee gear display shelf LED color light show like that! But then again, maybe that's just the double strength dose of high THC 10:1 "Hazy Purple Humboldt Fog" tincture I ingested with a teeny tiny itsy bitsy little ole' medicine dropper for breakfast prior to my coffee shop visit to Artís that day talking. Absurd level of passive-aggression by the closing crew. Having a lovely time with my recently-purchased cup of coffee when the stereo starts blasting at obnoxious levels. Evidently, it was 5 and artis was closing. Hey, no issue closing at 5, and I am fine to leave, but how about "Folks, we are closing in five minutes," Said by a normal person talking normally. VANILLA LATTE. enough said, wow this is seriously the best vanilla latte I've had. You can tell that the vanilla syrup is made in house with such bold vanilla flavors. The latte was not too sweet and had the perfect balance of coffee, latte and creamy milk. I can't wait to go back to try their other drinks... or really just come back for their vanilla latte. The only thing is that the price will be on the steeper side, average about $5.50 for a 12oz drink. It could potentially be a good study spot, but I'd recommend coming earlier in the day to secure a good spot because it does get packed. Also a charming place to catch up with friends and family. Went there with the family over the holidays and they were wonderful. Everyone with me had great coffees, but I ordered some kind of incredible tea. I don't remember the name only that I never had such a delicious, flavorful tea in my life. It was some kind of private brew, not just some old tea bag you would find at the other coffee shops. Artis what is happening?? I am so sad my favorite cafe is no longer here! I always knew I can count on Artis to cheer me up! It was such a new unique experience coming here! But the past few visits have not been the same! It was my go to for the best Vanilla Latte, and they also have a Toasted Almond and Honey Lavendar latte! All 3 are sooo good because they make the syrups in the store. I also would get one of their burritos, that they no longer have either. I found out this weekend they are under new management! Ah, that explains it all! It's also not as busy like before, the customers must be noticing the changes. I remember the staff always brightening up my day, the music and the energy, the fun uniforms, the friendly staff, you can tell they were always having a good time. I remember telling them if I ever quit my job, I am coming to work here! Now, when you walk in it is like you walked into your typical day to day grandma's coffee shop. Where did the energy go? Why is there elevator music playing? The staff members look irritable now and barely interact with each other. I am not sure I want to come back for my overpriced lattes anymore. I was looking for a place to study near Berkeley, and I thankfully found Artis Coffee through Yelp. Usually, 4th Street intimidates me, because I never know what the parking situation is like. Fortunately, there's a free parking lot right next to the cafe. The menu is pretty standard for a coffee shop. I appreciated the decaf almond milk cappuccino I ordered from the barista. Perfect amount of foam, and not too acidic. There's free Wi-Fi inside (a must for me), as well as spacious seating and restrooms. All in all, I think Artis Coffee is a solid study joint that serves good-tasting coffee. read more

Such a cool little coffee shop atmosphere! They had live music and the space is open and tables are spread out so you can hang out with a friend or get some work done. They have some items for sale too that would make great gifts. Only downside is their iced drink menu is very limited. I'm a fan of iced drinks and I even order them in the winter still, so I was disappointed by that. However I'm still giving a good rating because we tried their honey lavender latte and I was a fan! I don't even like lavender but it was just the right amount and the floral notes weren't too overpowering. The drink overall is on the sweeter side so I enjoyed that a lot. read more

I'm not a big coffee connoisseur and I've never been one for all the fancy stuff. However, this place has the best coffee I've ever had. I've been to a lot of coffee houses but this one seems to have it down to such an exact science that the product they make is amazing. The aromatic smell of coffee fills your lungs as you step into the shop. Immediately, I noticed the beautifully minimalistic decor around the store, and I knew I'd enjoy studying here for the next few hours. Before I sat down to study, I ordered a vanilla latte and an avocado toast. The vanilla latte was nice and creamy, yet not overly sweet, and there was a nice balance between the strong flavor of coffee and the milk. However, the avocado toast, while delicious, was slightly disappointing. The toast was pretty small, and only had a thin layer of avocado on it. The toast was topped by large amounts of leafy greens, warm radishes, and tomatoes. Having ordered an avocado toast, I felt that the avocado was not the main attraction on it, as the tomatoes and leafy greens overwhelmed every bite. The toast was still delicious, but I would've appreciated larger quantities of avocado on the toast. Overall, Artís Coffee does a phenomenal job on their drinks. The baristas are extremely nice, and the interior decor of the coffee shop will immediately make you feel relaxed upon entry. I will definitely come here again next time, either to study or to socialize with friends. I'm looking forward to the their latte and mocha the next time I stop by. read more

I don't drink coffee very often. Certainly way less than when I was in college, but every now and again I have a taste for a decent cup of coffee. I also usually drink my coffee Black with only a little bit of sweetener. The Honey Lavendar Latter from Artis is an excuse to break all my rules. It's the perfect sweet pick me up. I honestly can't say much else about the other drinks at Artís. I'm the type of guy that once I find something I really like I don't see the point in changing what ain't broken. The only small complaint is have is the WAAAAY overpriced coffee nicknacks Artis has for sale. I won't be buying them so no need to penalize them in my review. 5 stars no problem. Anytime I'm in the area and Artis is open I'm stopping by. read more
