Kouign Amann (left), Blackberry Almond Croissant (right)

I tried this location's Arsicault with a friend recently on a weekday afternoon. While the line seemed long, it moved quickly, and we were able to get our warm pastries in time to satisfy our hunger. Blackberry Almond Croissant: This was my personal favorite! While it was on the slightly sweeter side, I loved the crumbly croissant, fresh powder, and blackberry that all complemented each other in a delicious pastry. Kouign Amann: The original kouign amann was just as crumbly and delicious, and not too sweet.

Arsicault absolutely lives up to the hype. This place is known for its croissants for a good reason. If you show up after lunch, you can walk in with no wait and little selection. So go early and get in line. It's well worth the wait. You are getting croissants, obviously. But if you have room or are feeling frisky there are also morning buns, turnovers, scones, kouign-amanns, cookies, pound cakes, quiche, loaves of bread, and sandwiches. Coffee drinks are Mr. Espresso and take another 10 minutes to make if you're in the morning rush. I still dream of the Blackberry, Almond, Hazelnut Croissant. It was everything you hope a flavored, twice baked croissant will be. Buttery, flaky, shatteringly crisp on the outside, tender and chewy on the inside. The blackberry compote balancing the sweet almond paste, so even though it's very sweet, you still greedily want more. By contrast, the plain, chocolate, and ham and cheese croissants are light and airy, showering you with buttery flakes as you break them open. Service is efficient, trying to kept the line moving. The only deterrent for some might be the neighborhood. If that's the case for you there are other locations to visit. Arsicault is worth the trip. If you love a sweet croissant, this should be high on your list.

The pastries are delicious. We got the ham and cheese croissant, blackberry almond, almond croissant and a kouign amann. We actually asked for 2 blackberry one but the person taking our order was high or something, he was out of it. Probably smoked too much before work. We didn't check our order and came back and saw we were missing a blackberry almond croissant! Bummer. Everything tasted fresh and crispy. The layers of the croissant were top notch! Definitely a good bakery if you have the time to wait in line.

Had to try because everyone says they are the best .... And yes, they do live up to the hype. I even went back twice because I wanted to bring back home to LA. I recommend the ham and cheese croissant. I would pass on the cookie. The second round I went back and def get the kouign-amann!!! Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with anything in the store. Go early for best selections. Parking is hard here and surrounding areas are a bit sketch.

Great selection of viennoiserie. The croissants, pain au chocolat, danish and others were still flaky and delicious even several days after. A couple were frozen and tossed in a toaster oven for enjoyment back in LA and they were still delish!!

Arsicault truly knows how to do croissants well. With so many new bakeries popping up, you'd think it might get overshadowed, but it's quite the opposite. There's a reason people are still willing to stand in line for these pastries. I'd love to visit the original location one day, but I stopped by this one since it was closer to where I was staying. I came on a Monday morning and there was no line, though there was still a steady flow of people coming in, working, or catching up with friends. We tried a variety of pastries including the traditional croissant, ham and cheese, blackberry almond, and kouign amann, and every single one impressed me. I usually gravitate toward a classic croissant, but the standout items for me were the kouign amann and the ham and cheese. Both were incredibly comforting and well executed.

Solid 4 stars!!!!!! The almond croissant is great; dense and tasty. Would come back for this for sure. The ham and cheese is ok.

Loved their chocolate almond croissant! I will mention that it was much heavier than we expected. It was huge and had some heft to it. The long line does go by quickly which we liked! We did NOT LIKE their chai. When we tried it, tasted like hot water, too hot as well. Expected it to be creamy or some milk or anything but it was just hot water. Not enjoyable.

Arsicault is home to the best croissants in the country. The croissants are shatteringly flaky on the outside, soft and pillowy within. You can see the layers of buttery goodness, demonstrating good lamination techniques. I selected the blackberry almond hazelnut croissant and two of the ham and cheese. The ham and cheese is reminiscent of the classic French jambon-beurre, just reimagined in croissant form. I could pick up a subtle whisper of rosemary woven through the savory ham. I can see how Ariscault elevates their baked goods by selecting quality ingredients. The blackberry almond hazelnut croissant is a showstopper. The berry jam filling is perfectly balanced by the nuttiness of almond and hazelnut. Ariscault croissants satisfies your cravings for a sweet or savory pastry. Absolutely divine doesn't begin to cover it. Well worth the visit and wait!

A great place to come to when it's your early weekend morning. This place gets crowded and there's always a line. Service here is very friendly and fast. It's a fast paced bakery. The pastries were delicious and fresh. I got full from just eating two pastures. So if you like good pastries with good atmosphere, then you've found it.

Got treated to a plain croissant from here. Wow, it was so good. Delicately crunchy. Buttery. Just a big surprise to make my day. It was so filling that I delayed eating my lunch.

I love blackberries and the combination of blackberries with almond in a croissant is a dream-come-true for me. The croissant was beyond greasy and not flaky at all. I'm really not sure I could handle it more often than once a month when the blackberry pastry craving kicks in.

Do you have any options that are vegetarian without eggs?

Hi Miraj, Thank you for reaching out. Unfortunately all the vegetarian options include eggs.

How is parking at this location?

Limited street parking only in the area. If you're driving, I advise you to just drive to their other location.

Is there a line at this location? The arguello location always has a line out the door spanning (45min wait).

I went on a Saturday around 2-2:30 PM. There was no wait, but they had run out of many things by then. I was still able to purchase an almond croissant and an almond chocolate croissant though.

Is this location closed during the shelter in place period?

    They have reopened this weekend!

What are the hours especially on weekends?

They're currently only open on Monday - Friday, 7 am - 2 pm. Closed on the weekends.

Though I love French toast, I usually feel queasy and overfull afterwards. Sugar drenched. Not here, my friend. Delicate flavor. Not overly heavy or sweet. Just right for a sophisticated palate. For food we got the chicken & pandan waffle combo that came with two eggs and sriracha bacon. The waffle was perfection, crispy and light while still very flavorful. The chicken had a nice thin crisp on the outside but was a little dry and flavorless on the inside. The bacon actually tasted better with the waffle than the chicken did. That was really the only flaw for this place (4/5 stars). We also got the steak benedict that comes with a curry hollandaise. This was really unique and we'd absolutely get it again. The potatoes on the side were also crispy and they give a lot of fresh fruit too!

My husband and I's favorite place to eat in the world is New Orleans so this place definitely did not disappoint. We started with coffee drinks, I had some sort of boozy espresso drink which I could have done without since the bitters tasted like licorice which is probably a taste preference. My husband had the grandma coffee which was also fine. Then the food came out and it went up from here! The catfish & grits just might be the best I've ever had. My husband also really enjoyed his banana foster French toast, & i loved that they allowed you to get one piece of fried chicken because i had to try it out despite a full meal. The wing I had was Nice & crunchy with a delicious sweet sauce on the side that reminded me of mambo sauce ( a DC staple.) My husband also had the gumbo which was good but I wouldn't say our favorite. I prefer my gumbo with a little more spice but that could just be personal preference. We ended the meal with beignets: I had the ube beignet which was so unique & flavorful! I don't think I would have had a chance to try that type of beignet anywhere else so glad to try something different, it was delicious. The crawfish beignet was also so flavorful! The beignets in general were much more bready than typical beignets but still very good & unique to this place. On top of that, the service was great & the food came out quick, hot & fresh! I wish we had more time (& stomach space) to try other items on the menu, everywhere we looked everything looked delicious so we'll just have to try more the next time we're back in SF!
