Buyer Beware, be very aware! We will not do business with this company again. ARS was the company that installed the system in our home when built 4 years ago. We continued to use them for seasonal checkups ever since. They would call us in the spring and state that it was time to check the A/C as well as the fall for the furnace. Our A/C stopped cooling this summer so we called ARS for service. They set a 4 hour block appointment for the next day which we made arrangements to cover. 1 hour after the 4 hour block was over we called to find out what the delay was. ARS stated that the repairman was stuck in traffic and would be there in 30 min to an hour. Well 1 1/2 hours later I called again and was given the same spiel. I had to leave for another appointment but my wife remained home to meet the repairman. I gave her all the past A/C maintenance reports including the latest checkup (2 months prior) for the repairman to reference if needed. I also told my wife that if he reports the freon is low to request a pressure/leak check before just willy billy adding freon. Well he did report low freon , but when my wife requested a leak check of the system he talked her out of it saying it would take to long to perform. He told her he put 2 pounds of freon in the system and left. When my wife gave him a copy of the previous system checks he said they were worthless because they are done to early in the year (Apr- temps to cool outside) to actually check the system. Yet they are the ones calling and telling us it's important to have done. Bullocks! The next day The A/C stopped cooling again and I called ARS to complain about the service call the previous day. They sent another repairman who did a leak check and found the coil leaking. The coil was under warranty and the repairman said it would cost $1800.00 dollars. He said the service manager would call and work on the price with me due to the bad service we received the day prior. After 2 days of no cooling and no call from ARS I called another company who fix the A/C the next day for less than $800. Final note; ARS CALLED 2 weeks later to set up the appointment to fix our A/C. Never again. read more

Wow, I can't even express the level of incompetence I experienced with ARS. They acted like they'd never installed an HVAC system before. It was one error after another, and the biggest one ended up causing a slow leak (drain pipe didn't actually drip into the drain hole.. instead onto the floor) and ruining our new flooring in the basement, the bottom few inches of drywall, baseboards, and causing a mold problem. It took about two weeks of the slow leak before I could smell the musty mold smell, and then another two weeks, the water was actually visible. My grandmother's heirloom, one of a kind oriental rug was damaged and the rug pad completely ruined. They sent water remediation people out right away and fans, dehumidifiers and heaters were cranked for several days. We were not able to use the basement (master suite) since it was all torn up and all those loud machines were going - so we had to sleep on the floor in the living room for several days. Too bad ARS didn't bother to tell their claims guy about the issue.... he didn't find out until WE finally called the corporate office. They were trying to cover up the situation, it seems.... and then they attempted to deny that it wasn't installed improperly. If that's true, then why did they send people out to fix the work numerous times? Why did they send water remediation people? Why did they offer to pay for the rug cleaning, lost wages and compensation for having to sleep on the floor if it wasn't their fault?? Why do we have photos of the improperly placed pipe if it was done properly? The water remediation people confirmed that the water was not coming from another source. We are still waiting for them to gather paperwork on our job so that the insurance claim can be paid. The outcome remains to be seen. read more

The technician went to our rental home who was called by the tenant for a clogged toilet and a tub that would not drain. He charged $270 to unclog the toilet and said it would cost $7500.00 to fix the tub. He concluded this because the snake went 12ft and came back up with rust on it. Never ran a camera down the drain. At no time did he leave with the tenant a copy of the written quote or ask me for my email address. I felt very pressured by him to give him the ok to start the job. I called him back 20 mins after he left the job and asked him to call me so I could obtain a copy of the quote. Never returned my call. I called again the next day 3 times left messages and never received a call back. I called the main number on the ARS website and was told they would page him and he would email me the quote, never did. I spoke with 3 different employees about my issue and was told it would take up to 48 hours to get a written quote. Spoke with Stephen the manager who was very indifferent with me. It is the law to give a customer a written quote.Rule of thumb, if you have this many problems before any work is done this is a big RED FLAG. read more

We've used ARS for about 13 years to service our heating/air conditioning system. They first serviced the unit that was in our home when we bought it, then installed a new one when that one bit the dust due to previous owner's neglect to do routine maintenance. We purchased a warranty and service contract. Can't say if we've broke even on the warranty, but it at least gives us piece of mind. The customer service reps are very courteous and accommodating, and the service techs are solid. Response time is good (same day or next day), and they stay in touch when a tech will be late. The sales guy, a former tech, even came out to our house a few years after the sale to help us figure out why we were getting uneven heat distribution; he found a closed damper hidden by remodeling. No charge. Only small downside to them is that they don't do duct cleaning and the fellows doing routine checks sometimes try to sell you something (sometimes useful) to add to your system. Recommend them - at least have them make a bid when you are looking to install a new HVAC system. read more

ARS cannot appropriately schedule appointments, so what confidence do you have that they will install HVAC equipment? Zero. I never received notification of the time techs would install. I called the company and they told me that the best they could give me was an "all day" window. I asked to speak to a manager and this request was denied as "no one was around." I called the salesman who brokered the install and he never returned the call. I called again the following morning and we agreed for a 2pm install. The company blatantly and maliciously ignored this request and went to my home anyway at 10 am. Among the lies I was told--They got permission from my wife (they did not--no call, text or conversation occurred). "They don't do afternoon installs as its too hot"--this is laughable as literally every job they perform will be at a site that has no AC!! I was told that a crew mistakenly went to the wrong residence. Bottom line--this is a very shady company (like most HVAC) who try to upsell when there is no real issue. That seems commonplace in the industry. What is appalling is the total lack of customer service, and the utter disregard for the paying customer's time. I strenuously advise people to seek other options. Stay away from ARS! read more

ARS was 4 hours late for their appointment, did no work and Charged me $89. On the second visit they asked for $345 to do an estimate. ARS wasted 6 hours of my time , ripped me off for $89, refused to do a repair estimated for less than $345, and promised exceptional service the 5 times I spoke with their office. And ARS was recommended by Home Depot, who also denied any responsibility. Steer clear of this company. A terrible customer service experience. read more

Within the past 5 years, I have purchased 4 systems (2 AC, 1 Furnace, 1 Hot Water Heater) from ARS. I even purchase an annual maintenance plan, spending a flat rate to receive two inspections and PRIORITY scheduling fr service. I believe that the inspection on June 19 of my two was handled well by the technician. BUT, he showed up at 1 p.m., an hour after the 8-12 noon allotted time. Obviously, I took off work to wait for the technician. I initiated 3 calls to ARS Rescue Rooter starting at 9 a.m. to find out what time I might expect the technician. ARS initiated NO calls to let me know what was going on. On my second call, I was told that it looked like the technician would arrive "more around 11 to 12." Later, at 12:15 p.m. the person who answered my call read a call report indicating that I had been told that the technician would arrive at or after noon. Total lie. At 12:15 I also was told that the technician would arrive in 15 minutes. A little after 1 p.m. he arrived. When the technician was finishing I called yet again to talk to a service manager. Turns out the service managers were all in a meeting. I explained that since I had been so inconvenienced all morning it should be possible for a service manager to step out of a meeting to talk to me. The next day, in an unconnected follow-up call, someone called my home, and my wife explained that I was quite dissatisfied and that this person should call me at work. That has not happened. Over the years I have been generally satisfied with this outfit, even though it was more expensive. However, this latest episode has me doubting that I will spend any more money with them. read more

Outstanding. There are really only 2 things I look for when contractors work on my house, punctuality and professionalism. These guys were the epitome of both. Not only did they handle the install in a timely matter, they also took the time to answer various questions I had about the system they were installing as well as the system they were replacing. I could not be happier with their service. read more

Had annual AC inspection performed on a two zone system. Bernie was efficient and courteous. I have used ARS for a couple of years now with positive results and will continue to as long as I have the need for such services at this location. read more

Home Depot contracted ARS to inspect my HVAC system which I scheduled a week prior on my only day off. They called me that Thursday to confirm my appointment for Monday. They then called again on Saturday to confirm my appointment for Monday. Monday comes around they are a no show. I called them to ask what happened and they put me on hold for 15 minutes at which point I hang up. A half hour later they returned my call informing me and I quote "that they the person was still at his last job and wasn't going to take the time out in the middle of a job to inform me that he wasn't going to make it." I asked him if they would have called me if I hadn't called them after my schedule time window had passed?" He informed me that they were actually doing me a favor informing me at all and "that I am lucky that I even was scheduled during their busy schedule. Its not like you taking time off work because you were already off today." He then had the audacity to ask when I would reschedule my appointment even after I explained how rude he was. Feeling kinda of lucky that this was only preventive maintenance on my system and not an urgent issue. read more

Dont ever do business with this company! We called them to fix out A/C unit, which cost 119$ just to show up! Then the technican tells us that we have a leak in the unit and it can be temporarly fixed for a minimun of 400 dollars! He then calls his boss and comes back to tell us that the entire unit will need to be replaced at a cost of 3500 dollars!! Thats right 3500 dollars!!! But he could replace the coil inside the unit for 2000! Which we should just replace the unit! My wife then calls a friend whos husband is an HVAC repairman and he says tell the ARS WORKER TO LEAVE YOUR HOUSE ASAP! We wrote a check for 119 and told the guy to leave!! My wifes friends husband then gets to our house 10 minutes later and fixes the leak and adds freon to the unit for...150 BUCKS!!! 150!! We gave him 225 for saving our A$&!!! ARS = CROOKS!!!! THEY SHOULD GET 1/2 A STAR!!! read more

I had ARS come over to fix a leak in my heat pump and twice I got a technician who the entire time told me that it was a waste of money to have it repaired even though the system was less than 4 years old. He used a lot of scare sales tactics to try and sell me a new heat pump, but I didn't cave and it turns out the repair was pretty simple. Be careful which technician you get because they definitely will try to take advantage of you to sell you something you don't need. read more

Be careful. I had a positive experience an ARS company many years ago when they installed our original Trane HVAC unit. ARS/Rescue Rooter must be a different company or have new management. They were terrible from beginning to end. I had a scraping noise in my blower motor. I called them Sunday morning, since the advertise Sunday service, hoping to avoid needing to take a day off. A tech called me on Sunday afternoon. After I described the problem, the tech said I would need a new blower motor and they would have one on the truck, but if I wait until Monday they would bring one with them. I took Monday off. They arrived around 4:00 without the motor. They took one panel off to remove the motor. The opening wasn't big enough, so the tech yanked the motor through a too small opening. He said did not want to charge me for all the extra labor it would take to tear down the unit to create a bigger opening. He found that the blower motor was bad, and that I had to get a new motor, blower drum and electronic blower control unit. The cost was close to $2000. He would have to order the new unit and it would take a couple of days. Of course, he suggested consider buying a new unit and arranged for a salesperson to come over the next night. I got a second opinion, from an HVAC company offering free second opinions. They came over the next morning. They also took out the motor. However, they removed two panels giving them full access to remove the motor. This only took a few extra minutes. After a quick run to the HVAC supply store, they replaced the motor the same day, without replacing the blower drum or electronic control unit. The cost: $600. Needless to day, I cancelled the appointment with the ARS salesperson and will never do business with them again. read more

I've had the worst time getting my 89.00 refund for a service charge. It's now been 12 weeks and no one can provide me with a status. I'm not happy with the customer service that I'm receiving. The technicians were good, no problem there but good luck getting your refund back? read more

Absolutely just happened. They came for the winter check up on the furnace and I asked the technician to check one of the vent tubes in the attic that keeps getting blown off - even though ARS has fixed it several times in the past. When he comes down, proceeds to tell me that he found a leak in the AC Evaporation Coil. I played along because I just had it looked at by the company with the warranty on it (previous week) and it was given a good bill of health. He stated it would cost $2,6000 to fix it. HHHMMMM. Well, online I can get the same part for $245.00. I will never use this company again and have cancelled my warranty agreement with them. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM!!!! read more

My husband and I were ripped off by ARS. Our AC was working fine until the service man came to my house. Mistakenly I left him alone down in my base while he serviced my indoor unit. He came up to show me that the coil was leaking and the repair would cost $2700. So I went to call my husband while he went to the outside compressor. I did not see what he was doing. My husband came home and that's when the service man was coming in. He told us we should probably have air for the next 24 hours. He said he could have the sales guy come out to do measurements and set up at date that afternoon. (we looked online and we could of got the coil for $300). Since my house is 12 years old, we decided to replace the whole unit like everyone in my neighborhood has been doing since they failed. So $7500 later, my husband had asked them to leave the old unit so he could scrap it. And they did, when my husband started to take the outside unit apart, someone had snipped the copper pipe in there. Obviously you could see the snip marks and copper doesn't rust . My husband is a mechanic so he took the coil to his shop to pressure test the coil. Guess what, if wasn't leaking. We called ARS to come out to the house. Of course their customer service sucks. The first guy who came out was very nice and seemed like he would do something about it. When it came to the boss guy coming out, he would never call back, my husband hounded him and then he showed up without coordinating with my husband. They of course tried to blame my husband. I am sorry, we are not the type of people to screw others like ARS. And of course the guy who serviced my house was promoted. When it came to the service guy doing the service, he did not do his job. On the receipt it said he cleaned the inside of the compressor, well that didn't happen. When it was apart in my garage, it was disgusting. Freon was left in the old unit that sprayed everywhere. When it came time to ARS to pressure test the old coil, my husband unfortunately broke it moving it to his truck so they would not reimburse us. It's always the good people that get screwed from these service companies working on commission. If others that read this, please never leave these people alone, they will screw you in a heart beat. read more

I am writing this review because I know I am being ripped off by ARS / Rescue Rooter of Florida. I purchased a Rheem Heat pump, From Home Depot and ARS who is home depot installing partner. The sales rep came into my home and sat down with me and my wife after going over all the paper work he sold us our heat pump. He told us we had a 10 year warranty and told us if we wanted to keep the unit running the way it should run without problems we should purchased a maintenance warranty this way the unit would be checked on every 6 months and the problem would be corrected immediately. Well after 2-1/2 years the unit broke down and now the cost is going to be over $1500 dollars. They are telling me the labor part ran out. But I still have eight years on parts.I never new that their technicians are brain surgeons when you break the labor rate is $410 an hour. When we purchased the maintenance warranty we thought it was a labor agreement as well. We were never offered anything else. Last week we were without AC for 4 days when we called the technician, he was supposed to be at our house between 1 and 3 he showed up at 10pm and did not fix it. The next day the next technician showed up at 4pm put 4 lbs. of freon costing me $325 and two days later its down again. I called 7 times to speak to the service manager with no response. After checking our contract we find they never put new lines when they installed the new unit so they are now leaking. As a consumer if you want to get cheated call ARS they are the worst when it comes to customer service. They don't take care of the problem they just keep on charging. Paying Home depot for the unit and ARS for installation I now have a unit that is dead is that fair.-------///// read more

Our ac went out and I called ARS. They came out same day around 5:30 pm. Paid the 120 diagnostic fee and was told the unit was encased in ice and needed to thaw. Tech said he would come back the next day but that I would need to call and schedule another service call. I did just that and was told I was on the list and tech would call 45 minutes prior to arriving. 6pm rolls around the next day and still no call. Called them and was told we were not on the list. Spoke to a manager named Michelle who basically inferred we were liars, that we had never called. She said she could not have anyone over until midnight to 1 am. She was very unprofessional and condescending even telling us she could pull the phone logs and prove we didn't call. We asked to do just that, but we didn't get a further response. I put a stop payment on the check for the diagnostic fee and will never use them for anything and will not recommend them to anyone. read more

I usually don't write reviews, except for really really bad experience, and I felt compelled to warn others what might befall them if they use ARS. I've used them for a few years now, and even had a service plan. I know if there's something to be changed, it'll be higher than if one can change it himself/herself. But this takes the Oscar for the lowest point and most ridiculous: I got charged $141 today to replace a capacitor that cost about $6 online, a 2,350% mark up! Foolish of me to check only after the technician left. All he had to do was to connect the capacitor like connecting a battery. A 7-8 year old could do it. Beware the so-called "annual heating system check" - it is just to get a foothold in your house, and then you'll be scared to change something. This last time, I've scheduled the annual system check up through Home Depot. Either way, ARS has just lost my business forever. read more

We live in Fredericksburg and have used ARS in the past. They replaced our furnace, which was an expensive project, and we had no issues with them previously. We recently went on vacation and came home to a broken, leaking toilet that had leaked through our ceiling downstairs. Called ARS immediately on Sun. night to schedule an appointment. It was after hours so my husband left a voice mail. They called back and we scheduled for Tues. Tammy in the Maryland office called us and said the plumber had a "family emergency" so we rescheduled for today (Weds.) She called me to tell me the plumber was in route for our appointment which was rescheduled for today 2:00 - 6:00 PM. Then just called me a few minutes later to tell me that they had changed the rules and that we were no longer in their coverage area so the plumber would not actually be coming. WHAT?! You have been here before, you nitwits! That's why we called you again. We live in Fredericksburg VA / Stafford Co. and she said it was "2 hours away." I'm so freaking mad right now. I won't ever do business with them again and recommend that you do the same. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. read more

My parents have used this company for a few years and said that they really liked them. I had them come out to my house to maintance our AC. The tech said something was wrong with the fan and had to replace 2 parts, one on the outside unit and the other on the main unit inside the house. When he was done he said the whole unit needs to be replaced because the cooling coil was leaking and the unit was not getting enough pressure. If I did not replace the system ASAP then the house would not be cool enough for the summer. Needless to say I was smart enough and got a second opinion. I am so THANKFUL that I did. A tech from Johnson's Polar Air came out and said nothing was wrong with the cooling coil and the pressure was fine, the unit should last a few more years. The second tech said that he could not say for sure that the part we had replaced was bad without seeing the part but he said for that part to go bad is extremely rare especially since nothing else is wrong with our system. Please do not use this company they are out to take your money!!! My parents replaced their entire system based on what they were told and now they are wondering if they needed it. read more

We needed a new water heater and it was insisted upon by ARS that our home be serviced New Year's Eve costing approximately $14,000. The employees rushed through the job one being especially disrespectful to my mother who simply inquired how to use our new 14k water heater to which she was responded with "I don't feel like dealing with this". So after accommodating YOUR business so that the job could be on the books for 2015 our house was left with our circuit panel open, urine on our bathroom toilet seats and floors (your workers asked to have access to our bathrooms to which we agreed), and we even found an instruction manual to one of the new appliances installed in the trash. How do you think we'll know what to do if it breaks if the instruction manual is in the trash? It is unbelievable that you rush to schedule our servicing and then on top of that rush through the job and on top of that openly rude to the owner of the house. The only redeeming employee is Roop who was kind and informative he is the only reason we will ever use ARS again after our contract is through. read more
