I was extremely pleased with the price and service for the installation of a new HVAC unit from Duvall's. Sales staff came to the house and carefully measured and explained their recommendations. I could tell from the beginning that these are serious folks who take pride in their work. Installation staff were extremely courteous and respectful of wearing shoe covers and being careful with my floors and walls when removing and installing my new unit. Also, upon completion, it was obvious they have great pride in workmanship making sure everything was just write with installation. Communications with the office and installation staff were always timely and clear. Duvall's Plumbing was the best in terms of responsiveness when I was requesting quotes as well. **Note, I had used FH Furr for several years because I was loyal to a technician from a prior company but finally threw in the towel because he was never available. I have used Duvall's in the past and liked their service. This review is about the most recent negative experience. I had an intermittent sewer smell in my basement and in the bathroom right above. I called Duvall's to diagnose. The plumber who came out went to my basement and looked around for maybe 3 minutes and told me to keep my p-traps full. I told him I know of this common issue and my p-traps are 100% good. He then looked at my Air Admittance Valve (AAV) and told me that it "maybe failed". I explained that my basement was remodeled a few months ago and that AAV is brand new and very unlikely the cause. At that point he seemed to want to leave quickly and charged me about $160 for the visit. I get most plumbers charge for coming out and that is fine, but I expected him to offer some other diagnostic solutions, for example a SMOKE TEST. By the way, I did a smoke test myself shortly thereafter and found the problem right away (uncapped vent pipe left in wall cavity). I am disappointed with the lack of even minimal effort to diagnose my issue. read more

My AC unit had a refrigerant leak. I called them, and the repair men arrived same day within a couple hours. They didn't try to up-sell me on anything, gave me 3 choices (refill it, refill it and add a dye to see if they can pinpoint the leak, or replace the whole HVAC system as it's old and the leak might be in an un-repairable spot and would require replacement anyways). We discussed the choices, I chose one, they explained the process, answered a few of my questions (they were very knowledgeable). Our sink in the kitchen got clogged. We tried using all sorts of DIY to fix it to no avail. I usually feed contractors, and I regret I did not feed these guys, do not recall why. Either they declined or I got bogged down with other things. I live in Manassas and I had a pipe that was leaking slowly from a soldered joint behind my shower. I have never had to call a plumber before so I turned to yelp and this company had great reviews so I decided to give them a try. I called on a Wednesday afternoon and spoke to a very friendly receptionist who made the first avaiable appointment for Friday afternoon between Noon and 4pm. Tyson and James called me around 1pm on Friday and to tell me they were about 20 to 30 mins away from place. When they arrived they were very friendly and got right to work and made fixing my leak look easy. (See the before and after pictures I posted.) They charged me what I thought was a reasonable price and told me they guaranteed their work for a year. I'm always weary when I have to call on someone for service. Many times they don't show up on time, try to up sell, or charge you for more than what you need. This was a very positive experience because these guys showed up right when they said they would and didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need to have done. They also gave me some free advice on a couple other plumbing issues I had questions about around my home. I called Duvall's Plumbing of Manassas to have my kitchen drain snaked out and their plumber sent a snake down my drain and into the kitchen drain of the condo next door damaging her drain. The next time he showed up, the owner of Duvall's Plumbing arrived with him. They fixed my drain and the drain of the neighbor's condo but to fix it, they cut through the dry wall of my kitchen. I asked the owner of Duvall's Plumbing to repair my kitchen dry wall and he said his company doesn't do dry wall work. I asked him twice if his company would reimburse me to have my kitchen dry wall repaired and he said no. I was out the cost of my drain being snaked and out an additional $150 to have my kitchen dry wall repaired. Duvall's Plumbing is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with any place at any time. I encourage anyone who needs a plumber to boycott Duvall's Plumbing. My experience and my neighbor's experience dealing with Duvall's Plumbing was awful. I was treated unfairly by the owner of Duvall's Plumbing. The plumber they sent here damaged the plumbing in my kitchen and my neighbor's kitchen and I ended up paying for damage not of my making. read more

I have nothing but amazing things to say about one of the plumbers, Tyson, and the fantastic service he provided! My bathtub stopped draining one evening, and I just thought it was a slow drain. When it wasn't gone in the morning and water started coming INTO the tub after using the sink and flushing the toilet (GROSS), I knew something was terribly wrong. I attempted to clear the drain myself with absolutely zero luck. Duvall provides a lot of plumbing services for my condo building and they came highly recommended by the manager on site. Our building is in Chantilly, and it looks like they service most of Northern Virginia. I called Duvall at 1:30 p.m. and they were here within an hour. Normally, it may have taken longer, but Tyson was already servicing another unit in my building and he stopped by while he was here. He first tried to clear the clog from the toilet and then got a different snake for the tub. He is extremely pleasant and was really helpful in answering my questions. I was worried it was a much bigger issue than just a blockage, but after some careful diagnosis, we realized it was just a REALLY bad blockage. After about an hour and two snakes later, Tyson was able to clear up my clog and do so without braking my bank account! The company comes highly recommended from my neighbors (one of which was almost screwed over into a brand new water heater by a different company, but it was really just a $50 fix! Which Duvall did with ease), and now they come highly recommended from me. Give them a call when you have any trouble. You will NOT be disappointed. read more

I had an EXTREMELY difficult to reach cast iron sewage pipe that needed replacement. Over two years, I'd had 3 different companies send out techs. Each one was a horror story of estimates and in one case (i won't mention them here) outright incompetence. But we couldn't put it off anymore and I tried Duvall. The previous guys pretty much told me we had to rip down walls and one guy said we had to tear up our floors as well. So when Tyson said he could get to it without destroying my house, I was ecstatic. He was able to replace the leaking cast iron as well as old drainage copper with PVC for much MUCH less than the other guys. Probably because he wasn't trying to basically ask me to renovate my house to fix a leak. They did a great job, did it in one day, and after 4 months it's still holding up aces. Update - Friday morning as I was getting ready for work - I turned on the shower and ... nothing. No hot water. I checked the breakers... nada... checked the other sinks in the house... nada, it was official, my 12 year old hot water heater pooped out on me. I took a quick Army shower and took my grumpy tail to work. I called Duvall's and the awesome woman on the line (whose name I neglected to get) offered me emergency service over the weekend - which I declined. We set up a service call for Monday afternoon. Matt arrived, and immediately could tell that there was no saving my hot water heater... it was a goner. He called into the office, then provided me with a quote and confirmed they would be back the following afternoon. On Tuesday, John and his crew arrived in the afternoon and within an hour or so they had the old unit drained, removed and the new one installed, hooked up... and streaming glorious hot water! I might add that I live on the 4th floor of my condo building, those stairs are no fun. The guys at Duvall's are fantastic! The HVAC Guy Who Saved Christmas Our heater went down last night (and its getting cold in early November). Called up the local company who had done work for us in the past (I won't mention their name at the moment) and they checked the furnace and told me I'd need a new gas valve. Cost? $764. After I finished choking, I called a buddy and asked him to recommend HVAC guys that I could trust for a second opinion. He recommended Duvall so I called them and spoke to John, the owner himself. He told me he was around the corner from my house and had a gas valve in his truck he thought would fit and that he would only charge me $325. I was elated and he was here in 15 minutes. After further inspection, he told me he thought I didn't need a new valve at all but rather a good cleaning of the burners. We've had Duvall out for all our plumbing issues and can't recommend them enough. Most recently Tyson was out to assess a leaky spigot outside. It definitely needed replacing, which he recommended and while cutting an access out of the basement drywall had me come down and explain/show me what he was doing. Knowing our house was going on the market, he showed me some places the siding could be sealed to prevent water intrusion since there was some dampness in the wall where the spigot was replaced. Our water heater started leaking on Sunday AM (we knew it would need to be replaced, as it was installed 17 years ago). Searched on YELP for a plumber, and determined to go with a local-owned company. Liked what I read for Duvall's, and called their number. I spoke with the agent, told them what we had, and figured out that we could be okay with current unit until Monday, so we didn't have an emergency fee (although they had techs ready to come if we wanted). Called Monday AM and scheduled appointment for 9:45. They arrived (John, the owner, was the lead tech) with replacement unit on the truck, was quoted a reasonable price, and they got down to it. I have used Duvalls in both a rental property I own and my home as well. Every time they come out I am impressed. They are respectful of my home and honest! I had a leak in my water heater in the rental property and I assumed I would be told I need a new one as it was quite old, but they told me they could fix it with a part that cost $1.00. We did go over what was starting to go wrong and that I should think about replacing it, but it didnt need to be done immediately. Needless to say, when the tenant moved out and the unit was empty, I decided to replace the water heater with Duvalls. Its very refreshing to not feel "pressured" into spending tons of money.
