My impressions are based on the limited, first-time interactions (though I hope they'll hold in the long-term), but I'm glad to have found a decent bike shop. I had a loose cable connection that was causing me to have trouble upshifting consistently. Rather than making me schedule a tune-up or worse, a pre-visit visit just to see what kind of world would be needed, Arrow tightened the cables for $10, a lot less time than a tune-up. This place is great! Clean, spacious, and most importantly competent. My tires have been down for over 4 months. I tried to pump them up at home, but it didn't happen. I came to arrow for assistance. The staff helped me immediately, were friendly, knowledgeable, and my tires are now pumped up. I will definitely come back anytime I need something for my bike. I spent my first year out of college living in LA, and decided to take up surfing. So my roommate and I visited a local surf shop to grab wax for our Costco foam board, a beacon of the newbie (or "kook," in surf speak). While checking out, we struck up a conversation with the sales rep and casually asked what beach he surfed. "Sorry bro... locals only." Cycling is not surfing. It's decidedly more accessible/practical and appreciably less cool. This is both why I like it and why I'm consistently frustrated to find bike shops touting the "locals only" vibe, with passive-aggressive sales reps and a general attitude of disdain towards the uninitiated. I am happy to say that the opposite is true at Arrow Bicycle. Trade in snobbery for expertise: these guys know their stuff, and during my visit they were happy to walk me through the process (replacing tire rims & bike seat, putting locking tire skewers in, and a general tune up). There's nothing more refreshing than a down-to-earth interaction in which you learn something new. Add affordable prices, a beautiful, well-lit space, friendly staff, and a sweet location (grab a brew at Franklin or some of the DMV's best coffee at Vigilante) and you've got the kind of neighborhood bike shop you'll want to commit to. Because I brought the old tire and tubes in they were able to get me a proper fit for a new set. In and out in less than 10 minutes. I went I for a tune up and paid money. Got a flat tire and paid money (it happens). Within 3 hours of getting bike the pedal starts falling off. Went to the store and of course they want more money. Something didn't feel right so I took my bike back and never come back. Make sure your mechanically inclined or they will take advantage of you like a shady car mechanic shop. After two visits to Arrow I am officially a fan for life. The first time they put together a bike I had ordered on amazon. The price was better than other places I found, and they said it would be ready in three days. Amazing! Even more amazing: it was done the same day. Then, I took the bike home and promptly screwed it up by trying to add a bike trailer to it. I went back and was amazed at how helpful and quickly they were able to help and give me great recommendations as a new bike rider. This place is an awesome bike shop! All of the guys working there are friendly, knowledgable. They all ride themselves and are a wealth of practical advice for newer riders like myself. I came in looking for a basic bike suitable for trails and road riding. They didn't try to sell me some super expensive bike. They picked out a cute and basic starter bike, adjusted the seat based on my height and even watched my purse while I took it across the street to try it on a paved trail. They offer free classes on Saturdays on things like how to adjust your gears to changing a tire! I love that the bike purchase includes tune ups for the year and first flat repair! This past Sunday before going to play golf, I located this store as I am in search of a shop for all of my cycling need. After driving 45 minutes to the store I was very disappointed in the interaction one of the staff and how they conducted themselves while I was in the store. I'm new to cycling and simply wanted to check out the gear in store; which is what I told the sales person when I entered the store. I thought that would be enough for him to give me space to browse. I walk around viewing the limited selection and this person finds himself again not respecting the 6-feet rule as a start. He literally stood in my personal space to the point the post where I asked what's your problem (?) to him. He proceeded to tell me that it's the store's policy to make sure that no one can touch anything in the store given COVID pandemic. Meanwhile, there is another patron in the store sitting on a cycle and being assisted without this type of harassment. Rather than cause a scene I excited the store to go and play golf. I called the store afterward but there is not a voicemail on the store line and I could not find contact information for the owner otherwise. However, I would suggest he view the security footage of this interaction in their store. I was in the store at approximately 12:30-1p 21 June 2020. There were only two employees working the shop; this was the skinny guy wearing glasses and a man bun. I am reluctant to say I was profiled but it was definitely not the experience I was hoping for and I will make sure that I recommended my fellow cycle friends take their business elsewhere. If someone knows the owner or management I would greatly appreciate some form or follow up. read more

I am extremely surprised by their five star rating. My husband took his bike in for service and was told they could fix it, however, minutes later called him back and said they would not be able to. When he went to go pick up the bike, the owner of the store came out and told him he should just get a completely new bike and that his bike was pretty much a piece of sh*t. As much as I hate to write this review because I'm usually a big fan of boutique shops, I am extremely disappointed with their lack of professionalism. Obviously, we will not be going here for our biking needs. And yes, we love our beach cruisers regardless of what you think and they are not a piece of sh*t. It is so true, you will receive great customer service regardless of what kind of bike you come in with. I came in with my uber-cheap, bought-on-clearance at Target bicycle and it didn't phase them. They helped me fix the seat and pick out some cool and reasonably priced accessories. They were just so friendly and helpful. I went to another bike shop in the College Park area (to be left unnamed) and they asked my why I would bother fixing such a cheap bike, not helpful at all... I just moved to the area and stopped in here on a Saturday for some help with my gears. I have an old Raleigh I use as a commuter bike, and the staff treated me no less respectfully than if I had brought my triathlon bike in. They also helped me map out a route to my office downtown, and were very friendly, helpful, and generous with their time and skills. I can't wait to make this my neighborhood bike shop. Chris and his staff are second to none. I had a fantastic experience! I learned a whole lot, got all of my questions (mostly incredibly basic ones) answered thoroughly and patiently and left with a bike that I'm extremely happy with (Giant's invite). I'll be back very soon for service, since they will take care of any bike maintenance issues that arise within the first year. Can I just say that I FINALLY found a bike that I feel comfortable on? So excited! I really did need an XS all this time but kept ending up on mediums and smalls. And - that is a miracle. As someone who has just not biked - it's really hard for me to assess what works and what doesn't! They could see my build ("you have long legs"), watch me bike on a "trainer" (basically a bike propped up and made stationary with a device called a fluid trainer) and recommend / adjust bikes accordingly. When I was test riding bikes, my husband was sitting in the store bored. One of the staff members (if you are reading, tell me your name, and I will edit to include you!) asked him if he wanted to test drive a few bikes (my husband is the one getting me into biking). Whoa! How fun! And - not only is that fantastic customer service, but also a great sales strategy (albeit somewhat longer term). A few random things about the store: it is VERY brightly lit and conveniently located next to a trail for trying out bikes (you don't have to compete with CARS and try to ride). My husband and I walked in through the back door (since there are some parking spots there), and I felt like I walked in on some intense concentration. The guys were working on bikes, no music, no conversation or distraction... just really, really into what they were doing. Acknowledging my cliche, I'm gonna say it anyway: we have a distracting beeping and buzzing and plugged in world, and this place felt like the opposite -- a refreshing island of complete focus and attention. I got a solid discount on the bike, and Chris really took his time in setting it up / adjusting it well for me AFTER I'd paid for it, specifically re-orienting the handlebars several times. I can't speak highly enough of Chris and his staff's patience, attention to detail, and knowledge. Not relevant - but the art in the back (where the guys are fixing up bikes) is HILARIOUS. Apparently a staff member created it. Take a look if you go. They also do Saturday morning bike rides from their store -- these last ~2 hours, cover 30+ miles, and are divided into groups by speed. No one gets left behind (but if you're falling behind, you'll get sent on a short cut back so you can catch up with the group). I plan to get used to being on a bike then come back for the group rides. Ok - I need to go y'all - I'm off to try my inaugural long bike ride!!! read more

I was referred by a friend to Arrow's because I was told that they provided quick service. I was in the market for a road bike but due to the pandemic I was having difficulty finding a reasonably priced bike. I came across a road bike on Facebook Market Place and purchased it before I had to chance to read the reviews on it. After reading the reviews I knew that I had purchased a bike that was better suited for someone participating in a triathlon rather than recreational riding with friends. I wasn't to bothered by it because I was having trouble finding any good reasonably priced road bike. The day after I purchased the bike I went riding with friends (36 miles) on a planned bike trip and the bike rode great. The bike was in great conditional but I still planned on taking it to Arrow's for a tune up. I dropped it off after my ride and was pleasantly surprised that I received a text a few hours later that my bike was ready for me to pick up. This is where my experience at Arrow Bike turned bad. When I walked into the shop to pick up my by an older gentlemen walked me over to my bike an asked "why did you buy this bike" in an agitated tone, somewhat taken aback I gestured to the empty bike shelves and said "as you know bikes have been hard to come by". He precedes to go into a tirade about how old my bike was and seemed angry as thought I had somehow offended him. During he made mentioned at least four times how old it was, I finally said "Sir, I get it my bike is old, I understand". It was then that I noticed that my tired was flat. When he saw that I had noticed he said I put air in the tire and it blew. I explained that I had just ridden 36 miles and it was fine before I brought it in. He showed me a hole in the tired and admitted that it was the result of putting air in the tired. I didn't see it as a major deal and preceded to ask him questions about my bike. The entire time we spoke every response was in an angry tone and he constantly made mention that my bike was old and he didn't have parts in stock and wouldn't be able to find them. He said that he didn't have a tire in stock that would fit my bike and didn't know if he could order it. Finally I just decided to pay and as I'm handing him my credit card I ask "besides bursting my tire what else was done" He went into another tirade that he entered the recommended psi and that it just burst, when I asked what else did the tune up include he just said don't worry about and never took my card for payment. I walked out of the store feeling chastised, beraded and confused. During the entire ordeal I stayed calm because the doors are locked behind and it's only me the customer and three bike employees. I told my buddy who referred me what happened and he mentioned that the older guy was ruff around the edges and others had a similar experience. The best bike shop I've been to in the DC area. I was looking for my first adult bike, not having ridden one in about 15 years, and these guys were very informative and helpful, and let me test ride with no hassle. I placed an order that same day, it was promised about 5 days later and it came on time. They called and emailed me to inform me that the bike was in. I test rode my bike, paid for it, and am enjoying riding again. I have not returned to get my bike serviced, I probably will in a few days, but I'm positive that it will also be a good experience. I will definitely buy from them again. They sell mostly Giant and Specialized bikes, I'm not sure if they can order other brands or if they are exclusive dealers of those brands. Also, parking can be a pain, but this is coming from someone who hasn't lived in a city and dealt with street and parallel parking on a regular basis. read more

I'm a student at the University of Maryland, College Park and Arrow is hands down the best bike shop near College Park (and probably DC as well). I recently got into road biking and started training for a touring trip this summer. Initially I was having pain in my knee among other problems. After a trip to Arrow I was fit on my bike by the shop owner (a one hour process for the half-fit) who treated me very well and answered all of my questions. I took the bicycle out for several rides over the next week and brought it back for some fine tuning which they were happy to do free of charge. The bike fits beautifully and I couldn't be happier. The guys at Arrow are knowledgeable, patient, and treat every customer with respect. Check out this bicycle shop if you haven't already, you won't be disappointed. I feel like the people below me had great experiences because they were paying/buying new bikes. Let me clarify. I won a basic tune-up ($90 value) in a raffle at a local, Hyattsville 5K for charity. I was ecstatic because even though I ride a single-speed, and can do maintenance at home, I thought it would be nice to have a professional check it out.. First, when I arrived, the guy who wrote the gift certificate had an off-putting attitude. That's okay maybe he's having a bad day, I thought. Then I'm told I have to leave my bike for two days, weird for a fixie, but still okay. I was told I would be contacted when the tune-up was complete, and I wasn't. I had to reach out to find out it had been ready for pick up......ok.. When I got out of the shop my rear tire was completely flat, my brake was set too low, my pedal strap was adjusted the wrong way, and my brake lever was entirely too loose. What did they tune? Oh the chain was well-lubed. Not worth the time and trouble. To make matters worse, when I tried to inflate my tire at home my tube had a hole in it! Obviously, I did not take it in that way. Thank goodness I did not have to actually ride home on it. The main reason I'm disappointed is because I do not think they should have participated in the charity if they were going to be rude to the recipient of the gift certificate. I do not live close to this shop so its nice to have several great options near me, such as performance bicycle. For those who live near arrow bicycle looking for a better option, Proteus in College Park is top notch. read more

Drove their Giant ebike (pedal assist) and loved it so much, we bought two. Chris made us a good deal. He promised he'd fix one flat for each bike. One of our bikes had two flats immediately. He fixed both for free. i was worried i would have many flats but haven't had another in about three months so i needn't have worried. I bet Chris would fix another for free if we got one. We love both bikes. I usually ride it for commuting around 17 miles per day five days a week commuting. Sweet ride when passing others up the hills and i'm just peddling easily. Arrow Bicycle has one awesome service team, pit, in cycling terms. I race bikes, well I sign up for races and do my best. I had a guy go shoulder first into my rear wheel and screw it all up, knocking me to the curb and, well you get the picture. I took my wheel to a local shop. The owner of a 5 location company looked at it. He tried to true it, make it right again. He gave up and said I needed a new one. I work in Hyattsville, so one lunch break I decided to check out Arrow Bicycle. I took the wheel to them. They took it, told me to come back latter. When I came back, It was as if nothing happened to my wheel. Ryan, the mechanic worked magic! My wheel is still rolling like new, so much so that my son who works in a bike shop in Florida stole/borrowed it and has never returned it. He uses it on his bike. These guys are amazing, they are low key, but deliver some great results!! I would say that if I ever need any service on my bike again, they are the first I will go to!! The owners are always there, one was a professional race mechanic for Snow Valley Pro race team, Chris Mitello. The other Chris Davidson is also a very capable bike mechanic.
