In the heart of NOMA is the largest REI that I've ever been to. I came to pick up some items before an upcoming race and was glad to see that they had almost everything I needed and a great selection. The associates were friendly and asked if I'd needed anything. They had a variety of items for different activities including cycling, hiking, camping, running ... They had it all. Will definitely be back since it's warming up and I'll definitely be outside more. The items I got did seem on the pricier side but they are quality items so I didn't mind too much. This REI is also convenient to get to if you live in the area.

I had ordered some hiking boots from this store on their website. These boots made by Lowa are somewhat unique and no other store actually had them in stock including this one. I had actually purchased these same boots in years past. Since I needed to order the boots from their website, they indicated that it would take up to two weeks for them to arrive at the store for me to pick up. That was a long two weeks, and I was somewhat nervous if they would actually arrive because I didn't receive any notification until they had arrived to the store. They were available about three days shy of the two week mark, and I was happy to be able to finally pick them up. There is a special counter for customers to pick-up online orders, and that process went smoothly. I haven't yet tried them on but the boots are the correct size and everything seems good.

For years, REI has been my go-to for all outdoor activities including hiking, camping, and cycling. This flagship location is my favorite by far. I appreciate the old go go posters which celebrate DC culture and the legacy of musicians who are no longer with us. This store has bright lights and lots of shiny things to satisfy your needs. I was in there browsing water purifiers & potable aqua tablets before my trip to Central America. There's also a large area devoted to cycling. Various brands of bikes, helmets, apparel, and tools are available to get you pedaling in no time. REI carries a nice amount of supplements and snacks that are clutch during long rides too. The staff is pretty knowledgeable and will call for help if they can't answer your question. I should mention that there is basically a skeleton crew during non-peak hours so pack your patience. More staff in the evenings and weekends, but more customers too. Sales & special offers for REI members make the shopping experience even better. Don't forget to mention that you're a member during checkout. Street parking is available for a fee and garage parking is free with validation.

It is a huge store. Great selection of bikes and not only. Lifelong Membership - $30 one time payment. This is what I learned from their guy who was a bit annoying. But I liked this overall.

Needed some winter boots so to REI I trekked. I am from the neighborhood so I know parking is tight to downright impossible on the street, but REI validates parking in the attached public garage. Stepping into the store I was blown away by the old Go-Go posters from the time when the D.C. Coliseum (the edifice that was there just prior to being torn down recently in the pernicious wake of gentrification that has seized my beloved hometown) the place to be to hear D.C.'s homegrown sound. The second thing I noticed was the sheer size of the store. It is huge. I later learned that this is a flagship location in the chain. The layout could be overwhelming but not an issue for me. The footwear is located on the upper level and boy do they have a great selection of winter boots. The prices of some were too rich for my blood but they had over twenty winter boot styles that were in the $99-$175 range. The two sales associates in footwear answered all my questions, quickly retrieved the ones I wanted to try, and ensured a proper fit. I am stoked that I scored a pair of waterproof Timberlands for $99. Check out was a breeze and it was there that I learned REI is a Co-Op that pays a yearly dividend to members. For $20 one time you too can join for a lifetime membership, including 10% dividend from full priced items. Also, parking is validated by the cashiers. The entire shopping experience was easy, represented a good value, efficient, and delivered on courteous service. My minor quibble is the restrooms. The store is easily one of the biggest non-big box retailers in the city, however, the restroom was tiny. One urinal, two toilets, two sinks, and only one hand dryer. Perhaps they have more than one restroom (I hope so)? Either way, this REI will be my go to location for all of my outdoor needs, including bike servicing. Oh, the New York Avenue Metro Station is just a stone throw away. Four stars.

He trying to say there wasn't no body at the bikes area when there was two people working . Managers are no suppost to fix problems?

Before making the trek over here, my friends and I looked online to see if there were whistles to be had any where near where we were. We weren't having much luck until this popped up. We made our way over here and into the store. Trying to figure out where whistles would be in a sporting goods store is not fun. Every single sport they represent could be a possibility of that location. We wondered up and down aisles in hopes that they might be with the soccer gear, no luck. Basketball gear? Nope. Hidden in the back corner of the store? Why of course... We see the whistles, grab our twenty and head to the register. The guy ringing us up must of thought why are we buying so many. Then when the total came up, something wasn't adding up. Even with simple math it wasn't correct. Then we noticed that the amount per whistle is not what was listed on the many pegs we just cleared back there. We let the guy know that each peg we pulled from was a price less than what was in the system. He got on his walkie and had a back and forth with another employee who persisted that the price it is ringing up is the price. We protested, as we (four of us) all told him the price is not as marked on the peg. They were hoping that we wouldn't care much, but one of my friends went to the back corner to meet the associate and point out where we grabbed the whistles from. Once she did that, they honored the priced from the numerous pegs. Crazy situation, but when you buy twenty of something, the price difference definitely stands out.

District Sports:…read more I really have enjoyed playing soccer with District sports. I am realizing how much I miss playing soccer in the District Sports leage now in this Covid era where sports are off the table for a bit! Pros: Cost: Only about $80 for a season- not too bad, and probably breaks down to about $10 a game or less. Locations: The fields are pretty conveniently located, not too far to get to. Team captains have a say in what fields are played on, as well as the schedules of the games, and they take into account where players on the teams live. General game conditions: The fields were in good condition. Games were held on both grass and turf fields, and referees for the games seemed competent and always showed up on time. Diversity: There are lots of folks of all different ages and skill levels in this league. The league is coed. The average age is probably 28ish, if I had to guess. There are definitely more men than women in this league. Social element: There is a social element to this league. After wins, many teams go out for drinks or food. Friendships are definitely built in this league. Cons: This con is more of a pro, in some ways. Because the league is coed, but male dominated, there's a rule that asks that at least three female players be on the field at all times, for each team playing. If there are not enough girls, a team has to forfeit the win, regardless of the score. Because of this, sometimes, as a girl, when teams playing games either before or after your scheduled game are short on female players, they will ask you to play for them in their games. If you want to get some extra play in, it is very easy to play for other teams who need female players to have to not forfeit games. You also will get a lot of playing time as a girl in general, because of the way league rules are structured, and because of the general shortage of girl players.

You may want to check out what District Sports has to offer. It's one of the better run amateur adult co-ed soccer leagues. It's a great league to break into the sport. All skills levels are welcomed. There's no "side tackling" and the field is shorter, so you're likely to survive. Soccer is only the beginning. They offer indoor soccer, futsol, frisbee, 7 on 7 soccer, indoor kickball, and basketball. There's plenty to do year round with this league and the fees are very reasonable. If you can sign up with a team, or just walking a meet some new people. Everyone is incredibly friendly, great adult recreational league. And, yes, they do like to party too. Just fyi, if you're very a competitive soccer player, this isn't the league for you.

My kids will never know how lucky they are, ha ha! Sport Fair has just about everything except Tyr. I miss that brand but I love Speedo and Arena products just as much. The amount of stock is amazing, and the accoutrements are all there from special towels and goggles to training aids and drag suits. They might not carry every specialty item you dream of, but they carry a reasonable facsimile and as I like to say, all you need to do swimming is a suit and goggles. All that other stuff is just other stuff you gotta keep up with! I've ordered branded swim caps through Sport Fair and have been really happy with the quality. I've purchased training suits for me (the giant drag suits), goggles, swim caps, and suits for my kids. In particular I was thrilled to get toddler size speedo suits for my daughters so they don't have to wear Target bargains. If you want your kid to learn to swim, they have to enjoy it and being dragged to the bottom by a stupid tutu or other absurd sexist decoration on a toddler suit from target is not my idea of fun! So not only have I thought the suits from here to be more fun for my kids, but safer, too. Really pleased to have this gem in our community.
