What a terrific experience. The manager and employees were extremely helpful and spent time to demo the watch for My husband. It was actually over a 360 difference from the Tysons Corner experience. I will only come back to the DC store. We were treated with respect and so friendly. This was the experience that I know represents the brand. So sad to see Tyson's give the brand a bad name. I stopped in a few weeks back to replace the battery in my Shinola watch. Shinola doesn't replace batteries in store, but they offered to ship it back to the main plant in Detroit for a complimentary servicing. The staff at the store were very friendly, even offering me a bottle of water though it was clear that I wasn't there to purchase anything. It took about a week for me to get my watch back, and when it arrived, it was set to the correct time and date and swaddled in a well-padded box. The store itself is a treat to visit, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows, high ceilings, and beautiful natural wood shelving. If you're looking for a special gift, I would recommend looking into Shinola. It's comforting to know that the company cares about their product quality and continues to provide great service for their customers long after that customer has made a purchase. read more

David and the gang are so helpful. I came in, in a panic for time, at 5 minutes to closing time to get a journal embossed. David was super fast, super accurate, and friendly as could be. It's so nice to find people who try to be helpful, particularly when there are so many difficult people in the world like me who try their best but still wind up being late. Rude staff. You would think if you were going to drop 600+ on a watch or 1k+ on a bag the customer service would be incredible. It's not the case here- very hit or miss with friendly staff or rude staff. Sometimes I feel like my walking in is inconveniencing them other times I feel like they'll tolerate me. I was in need of a gift for my 3rd anniversary, which is supposed to be leather. I went in the staff could not have been more wonderful. They helped me find a gift in my price range and were absolutely lovely. They were life savers. I could not thank them enough. I should be an older, white man if I want to receive service. Walked in because I noticed a purse in the display window. I've been looking to replace my cross-body for a while now. I looked at several purses and no one except for the security guard greeted me. I walked around a little bit, still no one said hello. I watched as another customer walked in, an older man, was greeted at the door and was asked if he needed any help. Hmm, no big deal. I went online, got the info I was looking for, then walked out. READ. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Brother wanted to buy some leather notebooks from Shinola and my family and I (visiting from another state) decided to browse around. I was looking around minding my business and was approached by a few workers asking if I needed help, they were polite so I declined respectfully. This taller black gentlemen who worked there approached me and wondered why I was "wandering around." Well isn't that what browsing is for? He proceeded to slowly follow me around the store and check on me a total of 3 times in the most condescending, pretentious way possible. I had a family member in there shopping and getting his notebooks embossed, so we definitely still had time and I wasn't overstaying-he seemed irritated I told him I was just browsing. Turns out he was the person who was going to emboss those notebooks and he didn't seem very happy to do it either. To Shinola, and their Managers at this location - you probably know who this person is (if he can still hold that job)-I suggest you teach him a thing or two about customer service. This experience alone has pushed be totally away from Shinola and their products. First impressions are a real thing, huh who would've known? read more

Went in there with my daughter and her husband on this past Saturday to look at watches. This horrible woman yelled at me because my mask was slightly below my nose and I mean slightly! I've been buying basically all of my work journals and notebooks here for years, and I've typically found the sales staff to be super helpful and pleasant ... until last week. I came in looking for a small journal, and -- when I didn't see one -- I opened one of the drawers below the display. An employee hastily and huffily approached me and told me I could find all the inventory represented on the floor. He then proceeded to follow me and my friend around the store eyeing us like we might take something until I'd had enough and left. Sure hope this wasn't a size thing, Shinola, because that would be real messed up. read more

Love everything about this store! I visited the store today during my business trip to DC to enquire about replacing my Shinola watch battery. Tess was there to greet me with a smile and fantastic attitude. I filed out a quick repair form and Tess took care of sending the watch back to the shop. I then shopped for a few minutes and walked out with a new belt and monogramed notebook with the help of Tess. I am a discerning buyer and I can tell immediately how well made the products are from Shinola. I don't mind paying a little for quality and great service. I did a little research on Shinola two years ago after my sister told me about them. She lives and the Detroit area and I really appreciate what Shinola has done for Detroit. I plan to purchase a nice Shinola watch for my son when he graduates from college soon because I know he will use it for years to come. Keep up the good work Shinola!
