My brother and I went here to get fitted for new sneakers. Rick was extremely helpful and not only gave us options for sneakers, but also advice and explanation as to how certain shoes were supporting or not supporting our feet. The price is of course on the higher end (we each paid $150 for one pair of sneakers) but it is well worth it for the service and health benefits of having the right pair of shoes. read more

My good friend told me about this place. I should have given him credit for that. He has been coming here for years. I am not an athlete but I walk. I come from a long line of walkers. I have walked mountainous regions of my country but never in proper gear. When I lived in the south I discovered a great specialty store and purchased a high end pair of Nikes. For the first time in my life I found out what proper gear was. Unfortunately it was not my time to restart my walking journey. Meeting Diego really changed my life. I went from walking 3 to 7 miles with pain to walking 10 miles a day and wanting more. I only stop because I do not want to push myself to hard. I believe I will reach my 15 mile goal by May. Go in, turn your phone to silent, have someone size you, tell them what your activity is, your most flattering color, and allow them to bring you a few possibilities . Will not return. I walked in for a running shoe fitting (9.6.19) around lunch time and had a very horrible customer service experience. The young man who did my fitting was not friendly, but he also - didn't offer any real explanation as to why he suggested certain shoes - did not explain what would be helpful for me - measured me for a size that was way too big (way beyond the normal half or full size bigger that u need for running). - When I asked questions he gave me one word answers as if he was in a rush (the store was completely empty). So not only was the customer service bad but so was the actual fitting. They also don't conduct a treadmill test (or watch me run) which I think is essential to knowing which shoes would work best. I actually liked the shoes I found in the end but decided to purchase elsewhere because of how I was treated at the store. I do not recommend. 2 stars because there were a lot of nice shoes and clothing options. read more

There's a guy who works there who's just a rude, obnoxious, stuck up person. He treats you like you're beneath him. Maybe it's the way I look or something. When I was there it just seemed like the customers were trying to impress the staff while the staff seemed to be pretentious. They really don't carry the best shoes anyway. I was immediately greeted by an employee who was assisting another customer. Then I met another one who helped me with my request. He was amazing! He listened intently and asked precise questions to ensure I had the next experience possible. I got fitted, then once my posture and normal stance were observed he sprung into action thinking of all sorts of recommendations. He did such an amazing job, that while he brought out about 8 pairs for me to try on, I ended up going with the 3rd pair instantly. He made suggestions for future wear and things to do for added comfort. I didn't feel like I was being sold unnecessary items and he truly knows his stuff. I needed some running shoes and didn't know where to start. Headed into fleet feet and I got immediate service from an associate, I believe his name was Josh. Awesome service. He brought out multiple pairs of shoes after assessing my stance and foot shape. He educated me about those nuances to shoe fit, which will be helpful in the future. We tried on several pairs of shoes and he took my feedback on each one, iterating to better shoes. He even laced and tied my shoes for me. I finally settled on a pair that gives me the support I need, and now I'm out running! Running is strenuous for a big guy like me but with Fleet Feet's help now I look forward to it. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and a good selection of shoes and other running apparel. They have some triathlon gear, but nothing serious like wetsuits. I like that all the salespeople are runners themselves and are very chill about giving you a pair of loaner socks and letting you run up and down the block with the shoes. On 6-25-2020 I went into Fleet Feet to return a pair of sneakers that I'd purchased along with two sets of insoles. When I came into the store three people greeted me and began simultaneously asking me questions about the sneakers. The woman, Kimberly, asked me if I had the receipt to which I responded "yes". She asked me if I had the original box to which I responded that I did not. She then threw the shoes down on the floor and walked over to the register huffing and puffing and did not say another word to me. A gentleman walked from behind the register to help me find a different pair of sneakers. As I was trying in different pairs a white woman came into the store with a return. Kimberly asked her if she had a receipt, the woman handed her the receipt, Kimberly smiled and completed the transaction. I made the comment to the gentleman that Kim seemed much less hostile with the white woman doing her return than she was with me. The gentleman responded that Kim wasn't being hostile, that she was just trying to get information. I said "it felt hostile when she threw the shoes down on the floor". The gentleman responded that they were just trying to get info. It is sad that as a woman of color I not only have to endure micro-aggressions from white people but to experience it from another woman of color is a complete shame. Needless to say, I will never patron this store again. I regret making my initial purchase. I hope that management will speak to Kimberly about treating ALL of her costumers with respect. I hope that if she is management, she will consider taking some time away to reflect on her behavior and make positive changes moving forward. read more

I have never been to a specialized running store, let alone a "real shoe store", but these feet are not getting any younger and it was time to get serious about my foot health! While that sounds a tad dramatic, I had noticed my casual attempts at cardio fitness and general walking around had become a bit pained. It took only moments for the keen eyes of the Fleet Feet staff to note my feet required some more heavy duty support than the inserts I had been utilizing. The amazing customer service and extremely knowledgeable staff helped guide me away from the more "brand impressive" names I had been advised to try, and steered me toward shoes which would not only provide comfort but also the support that these little stems actually required. Within moments of putting on my new shoes in-store the feeling and noted difference was immediate. I cannot stress enough, it was NIGHT AND DAY difference. Rather than wasting hours searching a major box store for the right fit and feel, they were able to lace me into shoes that actually fit my needs in minutes. They even re-measured my feet to ensure everything was in order before moving on with their recommendations. I learned A LOT during my visit here, and have zero doubts about coming to them again if I need additional assistance or new kicks. In addition, I would strongly recommend anyone to come here FIRST before making a purchase on shoe wear - and especially if you feel you may require more than the average 'any old shoe will do' situation. read more

Took a buddy along to Fleet Feet to get fitted for spring running shoes yesterday, picking the place partly because of the rave Yelp reviews. Despite over a decade of serious running, have not been able to fully overcome some knee tracking issues the past couple of years, impacted surely by NW's steep elevation changes and the fact that I live and work on hills. Alice took the time to fit us both individually, assessing our needs and suggesting various options from Brooks and Saucony. She not only understood biomechanics, but also the technical specifications of offerings from both manufacturers. I ultimately erred on the side of caution, settling on a pair of stable, cushioned Sauconys. Even then, she suggested I come back in 30 days should they not fit right or cause pain. Even for all that individualized service, we only paid fair market price for our new shoes. I'll keep coming back every spring as long as this store is around. read more

I only recently started getting into running and a friend recommended I get fitted for running shoes, especially since I've been dealing with knee issues for many months. I have been dealing with chronic leg pain for 8 months and had seen orthopedic doctors and physical therapists. While I was improving slowly, I still tended to cycle and reinjure myself. When I got to the store that day, my knees were already hurting from walking. The salesperson at fleetfeet was fantastic. He sized me and taught me how to look for shoes with a medial post that would support my feet and prevent my severe overpronation. He explained to me that shoes with orthotics built in are a better option than insoles, and that I should size up a little for feet swelling. He gave me a list of shoes that would work for future reference and I bought a pair of saucony omnis. It's been about eight weeks and my legs feel so much better. I later bought a pair of walking shoes with what the salesperson taught me. While I still experience twinges of pain, I am no longer cycling from between feeling better and reinjury. read more

Turns out fit wasn't right (I have wiiide feet!), so they suggested an alternative and it's a great fit (in both senses). I'm no runner. But I'm a walker. A big time walker. I walk an hour to work and back each day and on my weekends I frequently take multiple hour long walks. I heart walking!!! But my shoe situation has been lamentable. ESPECIALLY considering how much I walk. I went into Fleet Feet on the recommendation of some running friends of mine when I was complaining about my shoes and I am so happy I did!!! The staff was really friendly and helpful. And the gentleman who helped me was the grandson of the store founder!! I found that to be particularly cool. He was very knowledgeable and patient with me. Patience is a virtue in a shoe salesman, especially with me. I am very picky and I'm not afraid to ask for more styles. The shoes ended up costing about $100. Not bad, really. They kick ass too--although I have developed a sore on my right toe since wearing them--a sore that only hurts when I wear those shoes. But I don't put that on them, not at all; they were very thorough in their interview of my walking habits, any aches I may have had, and inspecting my foot shape when I stand. (I went about a month or so ago, I have just been living La Vi da Loca and so haven't had moment one to write any reviews!!!) Anyhow, great spot in Adam's Morgan, a quick walk across the Ellington bridge from the metro and filled with great merchandise and staff. "Don't Expect Applause" That phrase is the last on a list of five or six inspiring quotes written on a dry erase board facing out of the window of Fleet Feet. Next to this board of "don't complain, suck it up" inspiration, there is a small statue of a Buddha and next to that, a flower pot filled with cacti. Now, anyone who knows about feung shui, knows that cacti aren't the best for the home, and greener more lively plants are better for the flow of energy. For a running store, however, I find this set up extremely appropriate. We don't run to impress people, it doesn't always feel good, and it is a tough sport! (don't even get me starting on the 'running is not a sport' debate) So bring on the cacti and trot your butt into Fleet Feet. My current pair of shoes is from Fleet Feet. The staff doesn't stop until you are satisfied, and they will let you try on a million pairs to find THE one for you. Furthermore, they are serious when people say they let you take the shoes for a test run. No jogging in place on a carpeted floor here. Take them outside! Run up and down the side walk! Slippage on your heel? Too tight in the front? No worries...try again with another pair! I wouldn't be surprised if a prerequisite of working at this store is having run marathons, track and field, or the like. They know what they are talking about. I bought my first real pair of comfort shoes four years ago when I started college and they lasted my entire four years. I bought my 2nd pair this week as it was time to update them and they took their time again in helping me out. Several years ago I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis which is a fancy term for having high arches in my feet. It was actually serious enough that I broke my fifth metatarsal and almost needed surgery. Anyhow, at that time I needed to switch over from buying running shoes that were cute to buying ones that accommodated my awkwardly shaped foot. Fleet Feet was able to help me out with this. They did a proper shoe fitting for me, which was the first time I had actually been fit for my running shoes my entire life! I'm very sad to be downgrading my review of Fleet Feet Sports after a second visit. I advocate for and patronize locally-owned businesses whenever I can, and I wrote about that in my original comments. But I need excellent customer service in order to keep me from less expensive "big box" or online retailers. When I returned to Fleet Feet for a pair of replacement running shoes recently, I had the same salesperson (Phillip). He told me that Fleet Feet is discontinuing the Mizunos that I preferred, but that might be able to special order them. This was disappointing, but if the shoe doesn't sell, the shoe doesn't sell. At least he might be able to special order them, right? I am a 10.5, though because I run longer distances (which apparently can lengthen one's feet temporarily) Phillip convinced me to buy 11s last time. He had a pair of 11.5 Mizunos in stock, and although they were clearly too big, Phillip still tried to sell them to me. He then tried to sell me three more shoes (size 11s) that just didn't feel as good. He was nice about it, but it felt odd that someone would work so hard (including advocating a shoe one full size too big) to avoid special ordering the shoe I wanted. Finally I told him I needed the special order and he agreed to do it. After a week without hearing back, I called and left a message for him asking for an update. I didn't receive a call back. Finally, after over two weeks, I returned to the store and found out that they still hadn't ordered the shoes. The woman who assisted me apologized and made some calls but didn't do anything that would make me want to stay as a customer. I eventually got my shoes, but the whole experience was second-rate. And more expensive and slower than an online shoe dealer. I'm hopeful that my experience is not typical. I know a lot of people love this store and I'm disappointed I'm no longer one of them. read more

They have, without a doubt, the most extensive assortment of running shoes, clothing, and related paraphernalia in D.C. When you go in for shoes, you can talk to the staff about what you want, and they'll recommend several different types of sneakers to fit your needs. They don't just try to sell you the most expensive kind. To that extent, they'll even let you try on a pair of shoes and run around the block in them to make sure they fit well. It's remarkable in this day and age that a shoe store cares more about their customers' comfort than whether a shoe gets slightly scuffed during a test run. This is SUPER late, but if you read my first review it says I would return to Fleet Feet if I ever was in need of shoes. And I did! I will admit the first pair I bought did not work out - but guess who accepts returns? EVEN if they have been used? Yup. I got refitted by a different person there, and the second option fits so much better. I think it says a lot that they were willing to take back shoes if you have a real problem with them, particularly because that pretty much guarantees they aren't in pristine condition. I have no idea what you do with used shoes, but I am grateful that Fleet Feet cares enough to refit me. No more arch pain :) read more

I came here when I decided it was time to get properly fitted for running shoes instead of just picking the cheapest ones from DSW. One of the salesmen, whose name I can't remember, measured me and sent me running around the block in three different pairs. I picked a pair and went on my merry way. Two runs later, I realized I was getting sharp pains in my calves at the end of every run and thought it might be the new shoes. I went back to FF, explained the situation, and got fitted for different shoes (this time by Shawn). This was around 7pm on a Friday, and he spent at least 45 minutes with me. I didn't get any grief for wanting to exchange, even though I admitted I had run in them twice, and the shoes I ended up with have lasted me for several months now. A clerk brought me a pair of shoes, based on a look at my feet and ankles, and it is a dream pair of shoes. I tried on two other pairs, but that first one was golden. Fleet Feet rocks. The staff here is terrific. They are runners so they know what they're talking about. They're super friendly & helpful, too. FF is a great place for a novice runner to come for advice on selecting a running shoe. They won't laugh at you or act condescending. Instead, they'll listen to you, observe your gait, and give you a variety of excellent options to choose from. FF can also help if you're a seasoned runner whose shoe needs have changed. When I wasn't getting enough arch support in my shoes, the FF staff was able to suggest exactly what I needed (same shoe, new insole). FF has all sorts of gear in addition to shoes: apparel, socks, GU, fuel belts, water bottles, hats, watches, etc. If you need it (or just want it) for running, FF's probably got it. The store itself is small and cramped, which can make shopping here a bit of a challenge when it's busy. But they'll let you take a little jog outside to test out the shoes you try on. And the overstuffed interior isn't that bad--just think of it as an overflowing treasure chest of running stuff. read more
