I came here as a beginner looking for guidance, but left feeling misled. I was only recommended Volkl rackets, and the one I bought had a size 1 grip built up to a 3 with wraps -- something I wasn't warned about. I later learned that this kind of grip build-up adds weight, changes how the racket feels, and isn't ideal for beginners. It also cost more than a properly sized grip would have. Since then, I've met other beginners who had similar experiences -- being pushed toward Volkl and ending up with gear that didn't really suit their needs. If you're new to tennis, I'd recommend getting a second opinion before buying here. read more

Tennis Zone Plus is a gem I'm glad I found! Although it's a 40 min + drive for me, I happily make the trip for my tennis needs. The customer service and friendly atmosphere they provide is phenomenal! Every time I enter the store, I am greeted with a smile and a hello by the staff! It feels like home. Jose is a great leader, who encourages and supports the talents of his staff. He goes above and beyond with his customers, making sure that they have all they need and feel well taken care of. Rowell is a WEALTH of knowledge with vast experience in racquet care! Knowing he has strung for some of the big tennis stars, and is still active in doing so, brings more of a comfort when my racquet is in their hands. He's so friendly and communicative, and volunteers more information to make you feel well-informed. Even though they are busy, I usually get my racquets back within 24 hours. Have also done same day. If you have grip needs, they will put them on for you too. Being out of tennis for so long, they brought me up to speed on the latest technologies and the evolution tennis has gone through over the years. I was able to demo many of the racquets I was interested in before making a decision on which one to buy. They also helped in providing key information on the differences between the racquets, and which would fit my game the best. When I leave their store, I feel like I just received the warmest of hugs, and feel incredibly full. This helps in my confidence when I take the court. Wow talk about a one stop shop for all of your tennis needs! And my sales associate Rowell (sp?) was so incredibly knowledgeable. I went in for a pair of tennis shoes and ended up getting my racket restrung after hearing him spew wisdom to another customer. Turns out my racket was way overdue to be restrung and I had the wrong type of strings for my game. Rowell took one look at my racket and and said "you hit flat don't you, as opposed to a lot of too spin?" He was accurate! He also showed me tennis shoes that countered the natural pronation of my feet. Ive never had anyone ask me about the tread wear of my shoes. I typically travel all the way to Holabird in Baltimore which is a tennis superstore but the experience at Tennis Zone was more personal, boutiquish and all around comfortable! I don't usually write up reviews for stores that I don't make purchases from but occasionally I'll make an exception. This is one store that I think deserves a five-star review. I came in looking for tennis shoes. Granted tennis shoes are probably some of the least aesthetically pleasing types of footwear imaginable but I did have a need for them given my sneakers were just plain wore out from the hard courts. The attention and customer service I received was pretty good. However the stock was just not there. I ended up going to New balance just up the road to get something a little bit more appropriate. The prices are reasonable but also a little bit high compared to some of the other shoes that I looked at. If I was looking for other tennis needs I think I would come here first simply because the attention and care was paramount. If you have a hard time finding it it is next to the signature cigars and the bank. read more

I walked in looking for a racquet, shoes, etc having not played tennis in over 20 years. They were friendly and attentive and got me hooked up with all the gear I needed to start playing again in a few days. I've been quite pleased with the gear they recommended. The racquet, shoes and bag are all great. I will say that they have much more selection in store than on their web site, so don't use their web site as a measure of what they have available. Not for beginners. Unless, you enjoy being talked down to by an employee that feels stringing a racket is more important than costumer service. They literally insisted on using terminology I did not understand, and when asked for clarification, responded with "I don't want to mess up your game." Well, I have no game I am trying to learn and you are not helpful!
