I first went to another bike shop in falls church and the guy looked at my bike and my hubbies bike and quoted us quite a lot of $$$ to get the bike fixed and there would be quite a long wait. After waiting weeks for the bikes - my hubby called the other bike shop and asked for our bikes back. ( they didn't even get to our bikes yet!) . He then called conte's bike shop and they said to bring the bikes in for an assessment. So we did that and the guy at Contes ( I think his name is Jeff) said that our bikes are single speeds and he could fix it right there and then. He pumped the tires, aligned the wheels and did some other things and the bike was ready to go in like 10 minutes. ( both bikes). He didn't even charge us because the fix was so straightforward. He was honest about everything and very knowledgeable. I appreciated that he didn't take advantage of us novice bike owners. If you want an honest assessment of your bike - go here. I recently returned for a week's visit in DC and left my ebike there for a tune-up. Richard gave it a complete overhaul, replaced brake pads, tires and updated the monitor screen. I was on a specific travel schedule so they made my repairs a priority and gave excellent service. I'm also impressed by the personable connection both over the phone and in person, making me feel welcome and listening to my questions. I'm assured to get many more years of pleasure out of this gorgeous bike and it's been one of the best investments I've made. Living in the mountains, I am able to go to up another 2000' elevation with electric assist, and at my age that would be amazingly challenging without the electric bike. Handy Bikes also carries a variety of bike brands such as Specialized, Giant, LIV, and Moots (titanium) Cycles. I haven't purchased a bike from them but I've used their Service Center multiple times. The mechanics are polite and competent. I also appreciate the text message updates. Each issue has been resolved to my satisfaction and I am grateful for the reasonable prices. Brick and mortar bike shops are going away. However, the community still needs safe spaces to gather. Support your local bike shops & enjoy the ride.

We rented a tandem bike from a known rental in DC; the bike was rickety and took effort even on the completely flat route we were on. My GF found Pedego and opted for the tandem electric bike. This was a 180 degree experience from the other rental company jn DC. The owner was friendly, attentive, enthusiastic and really made us feel welcome. He knows his bikes gave us a quick run down that made us feel comfortable. The bikes are impeccabley maintained and he's thought of everything including helmets, storage pouch, bike lock, flat tire kit etc. He was even extremely well versed on the route to Mt. Vernon. Every pointer he gave us was spot on. We made it to Mt. Vernon and enjoyed food, history, and culture. The way back was fun since the bike did all the work, electric is the way to go for tandem bike long hauls. I plan on coming back to buy some accessories for my own fat tire e-bikes. Despite being around since 1957 and having the business passed down a generation now with over 10 locations in the area, it's nice to see they are not resting on their laurels since the staff very much had a mom/pop sensibility with good mix of older and younger staff and they seem to be very familiar with regular customers chatting with them in a first name basis and asking about other family members, like a neighborhood bartender and his/her regular patrons.
