Lifesavers. Today we arrived in DC for the daughter's wedding. Everything ready including my military Mess Dress, the counterpart of tuxedo. Then... I unpacked the shoes. Disaster. Brand new shoes I had carefully wrapped and stored in the spare bedroom closet which is above the furnace/electrical room downstairs. Well... the ozone from the furnace room disintegrated the soles on the brand new shoes and the soles came apart in chunks. Panic. So we look for shoe stores and Comfort One shoes up on Yelp. We had low expectations as military adaptable shoes are old Oxford types. But among the dozens of models of trendy, comfortable, and casual shoes, there were actually three models of oxfords. The attendant was superb. Patient and friendly. As expected, new European shoes are not cheap. But the value was tremendous. High quality, comfy and well fitting. We left quite happy. I have always loved the service at Comfort One and have bought quite a few shoes there over the years. They really do have the nicest staff. However, they really need to start paying better attention to the quality of the brands they sell. At the high price point of their shoes a customer has a right to expect quality, not shoes sold as "genuine leather" that start peeling a few months after purchase, as has happened to me twice in the last few years. To their credit, the salesperson offered me a refund the first time it happened but I had already binned the shoes and declined. Now that it's happened again, I am afraid to ever purchase "leather" shoes there again. I've had decent luck with their non-leather shoes and their durability is about average for modern shoes. They have lots of attractive and very comfortable shoes, but they need to take a hard look at their suppliers. read more

Comfort One in DuPont Circle has been my go-to for 20+ years for athletic, casual and casual dress shoes. The staff - led by Brad - have mostly been in place for many years and really know their merchandise and clientele. There is a wide selection of styles, colors and price point. This store was actually selling Hokas before Hokas we're cool! They just knew what was coming. Comfort One has great seasonal sales too. Any time I'm around DuPont Circle I stop by to check out the merchandise and to have a laugh with merchants who I now consider friends. My experience was entirely positive. Excellent and attentive service. Helpful, not pushy. They didn't just measure my foot, but scanned it to ensure a good fit. I was shopping for sandals, specifically Birkenstocks. He had me try on several different pairs and then also suggested I try a pair of Naots. I did and they fit perfectly. I have worn them for a few weeks and they are more comfortable than ever. They are also COVID sensitive and wear masks. Shopping here was a great experience. read more

Incredibly overpriced shoe store. They try and sell you $250 shoes and then tell you that to make them fit properly, you need to buy $65 inserts. Why now just buy another style or brand of shoe? After Otabo stopped making inexpensive Bespoke shows, i started searching good and yet affordable shoes. Mephisto caught my attention as they are one of the only 3 major shoe manufactures (not including Bespoke kind) that says they will re-sole shoes. I like to re-sole my favorite shoes and used it long time. Btw, the Mephisto store in this location is part of Comfort one shoes -- one of the shop just focus on Mephisto brand. I like the fact that staff is knowledgeable and willing to listen to you. When you can buy shoes really cheap online from Zappos and endless --- the only reason you go to real shoe store is because of staff, live feedbacks and suggestions that staff can offer you. Comfort one seems to understand it and deliver above promises well. I know they are more expensive than online -- but I love the fact I can try different shoes and if i have questions later on, I can always come back. Bottom line: if you are on budget, probably you do not even think about this shop. However if you believe that you save your money and health in the long run by buying better quality shoes and good orthotics (they have machine to measure your pressure point and suggest appropriate orthotics, I highly recommend them), then this is a place to go. You save money by spending money wisely, rather than buying cheap shit from minimum wage paying big box shoe retailer. read more

Sorry, but my story isn't as happy as the others. I went here specifically because my shoes hurt, and give me heel blisters. In the end, I now have $300 shoes that hurt and give me heel blisters. This is good, how? It would be one thing if they had a refund policy that let me bring back shoes when I have problems with them, but this place is no better than anyplace else -- and is 10 times as expensive. This is usually where I buy shoes. Now, I LOVE shoes, but I have been cursed with unhappy and easily pained feet. Hence I am willing to invest in Mephistos and other high-end European shoe brands in order to shod myself. The staff at this particular Comfort One branch is knowledgeable and very helpful (more so than at the others within a three-block radius). The prices are high, as to be expected, but not a great deal higher than they would be if you purchased online. Did you know when your Mephisto soles wear out, you can send them to Mephisto and get them replaced for a fraction of the cost of a new pair? Not bad. read more

Much to the vehement protest of my sister, I bought the ugly Vibram 5 fingered shoes. I've been curious about barefoot running ever since reading about the Tarahumara tribe in Mexico that can run barefoot, ultra-marathons lengths without injury or second thought. (Also good for over pronating runners, like me, as running barefoot is supposed to strike the balls of your feet more than the heel.) I bought the VIbram Jaya LR's as they were the least ugly that I had seen them come out with. So far I've used them for Yoga and dance classes. Great for yoga but for some dance classes it grips the floor too much! I tripped over my toes! I started my search for these shoes at their Georgetown location with Kofi. She's awsome fun to shop with and she directed me here to their Dupont Circle location. Wrong store, wrong shoe size at this store, but the sales person walked to the other store up the block to fetch my shoes. No pressure sales later. I walk out a happy Vibram soled customer! You may have noticed an abundance of Comfort One Shoes in the Dupont Area, and you may have asked yourself, what the hell are all the shoes stores for?? Allow me to explain. The manager of the store, a shy, suspendered fellow, informed me that this location is Comfort One's base store---the bread-winner of Comfort One stores. The other two are for a. the "funky" set (the one closest to the metro) and b. the "loyal shoppers" who stick to MBT brand shoes (this shop is next to melody records) Anyway, they have a good selection of Crocs, Rainbow sandles, and Mephisto shoes, slogan: "The Pleasure of Walking." Plus they have plenty of Smartwool socks. Come here to get started Christmas shopping, and tell the manager I sent you. read more

Since I discovered Mephisto shoes at this store 12 years ago, I have refused to buy anything else. They are expensive, but they are sublime, and they last forever. Until you've worn Mephistos, your feet have not known real comfort. The clerks here are the best anywhere. Ask for SUPER SHAWN on the weekend. He has sold me all my shoes for 12 years and he has never let me down! He actually remembers my shoe size better than I do. He is a true professional who will make sure you get the most comfortable and well-crafted shoes you ever wore. He knows shoes like nobody else! This is good old-fashioned friendly and helpful service at its best. Don't try to drive to Dupont Circle. Take the subway. This shop is right near the Q Street exit from the Dupont Circle station. I like that they have an abundance of good shoes for my poor little flat feet. I like that the staff is helpful and attentive. But I don't like that all the stores seem to be lacking some of the best comfort lines - where are the Clark's Artisans? Where are the Naturalizers? And why is their selection of some brands - like Dansko, which my feet hate - so deep and the selection of other brands - like Camper, Naot and Earth, which are cute and my feet love - so thin? read more

I was here photographing a conference and I was very excited to invest in a new pair of shoes to work in. Since I am a photographer I am usually on my feet 8-10 hours shooting. So, I went in explaining that I would like a small heel to flatter my pants, but still comfortable. They recommended the 1st pair of shoes which, I only wore for about two hours but they immediately rubbed blisters. So, I went back the next morning and exchanged them for another different pair. They were a bit more comfortable and I figured I just needed to break them in. . . 5 times later they rub blisters they aren't the least bit comfortable and I would love to return them and receive the $150 I spent thinking they would help me. But, they don't accept returns. All in all I will never shop here again! read more

It is a bit strange that there are three locations within the same block, but whatever works for them. I went to all three stores and they each have a slightly different stock (with a bit of overlap). I had some horrible blisters and couldn't walk, so I figured that I would need new shoes for my trip. They were very nice, advising me to wait as long as possible for the blisters to heal before buying shoes. While the size they recommended felt a bit tight, but after awhile they felt better. Overall: A great store for comfortable, high-quality shoes (that are expensive) for those post-blister days. read more

The shoes may not be the most fashion-forward or for a night on the town, but when you are looking for a comfortable pair that will last you for days and days of walking on vacations or in cities, this is the place to go. Mike, Ukwensi / Uquasi , and other retail staff are great because they really know their selection of shoes. My personal favorites are Naot, Ara (boots!!! wow. walk all day and all night, goretex means snow-proof), Aetrex (stylish and comfortable!), Birkenstock, Earthies, and Ziera. This location has more functional and sturdy shoes and the location across the street is more funky and in some cases not as well-made or as comfortable. And sometimes you will find a pair on sale (or TWO and buy both like me haha) , and sometimes you may not find exactly what you want. The stock rotates pretty often but the winners in my book are the brands I listed above. Be forewarned, the shoes are expensive, but with good reason! If you're thinking about getting a pair to last you through several seasons or years or for a very long vacation, you should really consider a well-made pair that will fit you perfectly. Walked in, was helped right away. Told them what I needed and what style I liked and had 3 options to try on within minutes. All reasonably priced. I am traveling through the the east coast with my family. We have walked around NYC in my Mizunos, my feet are not very happy with me. Now being in DC with more walking, we stumbled upon Comfort One Shoes. Super Steve was able to help me into a pair of Run Clouds and even noticed the scars from my surgery on my feet and had me try on shoes that did not have stitching near my scars! I am beginning my training for my first half marathon and I am ready to tackle this. I have throughly enjoy the service that Super Steve has provided! This is a very positive review, although tentative. Looking for a pair of durable walking sandals, I bought IMAC fisherman sandals, on sale (normally $110) for about $65. They look good, they were comfortable, the staff at Comfort One was helpful and quick, and showed me just the right things. Why tentative? I have several issues with my feet and explained all of them to the sales clerk. She put me on a machine that measures pressure points and such, but never actually evaluated anything other than what the machine said. She brought out shoes "recommended" by the machine. When I had issues with this or that, she didn't now how to work with them. One pair I really found comfortable, but didn't like the style. She kept trying to convince me that it was "popular." I finally bought a pair of shoes and added insoles. I wore them the next day and was miserable - foot pain, increased back and leg pain. When I called the next day, I was told they could not be returned because I had worn them. I've been to several high-end shoe stores and they ALL have a liberal return policy in regards to them just not being right after taking them home and wearing them in the real world. Now, I am stuck with $250 worth of shoes I can't wear. read more

The problem with this location is customer service, i could have easily walked out with at least 2 pairs of shoes, but if that's how you will treat your customers then i am better off buying online or from a different location, you just lost a potential loyal customer. read more

I have never wrote a review on yelp before. However, my experience at Comfort One Shoes was so poor that I had to share! I purchased a pair of shoes from the location at 1625 Connecticut Ave, NW . Washington DC 20009. The cost of the shoes was approximately $80.00. I wore the shoes for about 45 minutes at a dinner event later that night. The shoes were so uncomfortable that they left blisters on the side and top of my foot! THE NEXT DAY (precisely 18 hours after I purchased the shoes) I went back into the store and informed the sales "manager" of this! The sales managers name-tag said "Lawrence", however he insisted his name was "Clarence" and he was wearing the wrong name tag. Despite the name, the sales manager said he could not return the shoes since they were already worn. I proceeded to show him the blisters on my foot explaining how I was trying to buy shoes for comfort and they were hardly worn (mainly because they hurt to walk in). I showed him the date and time on my receipt which showed I had bought the shoes less than 24 hours ago! However, Clarence/Laurence refused to return them to me and suggested that I call a corporate number. While he was looking for the corporate number to give me another sales representative came to the register. He had a huge grin on his face and told Clarence/Laurence he just got "his third sale of the day." Clarence/Laurence gave him a high five right in front of me and said "you're the man, you're the man". Then Clarence/Laurence looked up at me and gave me the corporate number. As I put the number in my phone I heard Clarence/Laurence and the other associate mumble something, I believe it was about commission. I called the corporate office. A very nice lady named Daniel answered however she did not have the "authority to approve the return" according to Clarence/Laurence I would have to wait till the vice president of the company approved this. Ok so i give this place one review only because of the terrible customer service experience I had. First of all they have a variety of great shoes mostly european or south american brands, but at the same time super expensive. 2 weeks ago i was passing by and the store caught my eyes. The sales person was nice and friendly and i ended up buying a pair of flat ballet shoes which were really cute. Once I got home, i found that the shoes have unmatching colors because one of them was a floor sample and in the window, so probably sun faded the color. I live in Arlington so it was extra effort for me to go back to Dupont circle. I called the store the day after 5 times (it was a saturday) and finally could talk to a woman who was talking with me and other people at the same time. Finally she told me i can go to their Alexandria store to change but she is not still sure. She asked if its ok to call me back in an hour to tell me specific advice. Well, she NEVER called. I was working all week so couldnt go and return, so on nxt saturday i had some errands in china town and stopped by their store and asked if I can return. They had the same shoes but told me i cannot return but should return in in dupont and buy it again from chi town store. Weird! But fine. I was not interested in this shoe anymore bcs I bought a pair of shoes online meanwhile. On the following tuesday, which was tonight, i had some errands around dupont and i decided to take the shoes to return. Here is where the story begins: i approached the saleswoman and explained, she looked jnto my eyes, grabbed the package, told me let me check, in an unprofessional and angry manner. Then she told me ok i can exchange it and you come and pick up the new pairs on thursday. I told her, no thank you! I want to return. Then she didnt even look at me, started whispering something with his colleague and after a couple mins I told her i live in arlington and not willing to commute anymore for a pair of flats. Then she yelled at me "I CAN SHIP IT TO YOU! Its much easier for me to do it that way instead of you returning your shoes. I was like REALLY??? My eyes cant believe what they see! You yell at me instead of apology for an un matching shoe and now tell me what YOU prefer? Then i told her No I prefer to return it and but the other pair from chi town store if I wanted. Then she gave me a horrible look, literally paused looking onto my eyes, then grabbed her gaze. Meanwhile i sat on the bench and she called me "hey! It's your receipt! Sign here!" Literally yelling! Yes yelling! I was shocked by this rude behavior but all i wanted to do was to get done and get out! I signed the receipt and she looked away! I was still amazed! Very much! I can swear I can not remember the last time I had such a terrible unacceptable customer service even similar to this. I can assure you the training that Mcdonnald's cashier get is far more up to par than this. I will definitely call the store and will talk to him about this specific person. Yesterday I had the shopping experience of a lifetime. I have been looking hard to find shoes my poor pathetic feet can tolerate. I have ordered and sent back over 2 dozen pairs at this point. When I go to shoe stores, the sales people are very skeptical when I describe my foot problems. Not this time! I was extremely lucky to be taken care of by Shawn O'Neill, who understood when I described all 4 problems my feet faced, all of them generated with my aging (I'm just 71, but my feet are definitely showing age). He asked me several good questions about exactly what kinds of shoes I needed. He immediately knew what to bring out to try to fit me. He explained European lasts, toe box depth vs. width, foot length, etc. as he was putting shoes on my feet. The focus in this store is on fashionable shoes and fitting them right. Great selection of Ecco. Best fit I have ever had since I was in my 20's and I could wear almost anything. This guy knows his business back to front. And very personable too! I give him the very highest marks. Excuse me for gushing. Not surprised to find out, after I asked for his card, that he is Sr. Vice President for Stores at Comfort One Shoes, which have about 20 stores in the region. He sometimes works in his stores on the weekends. If you have difficult feet to fit, search him out when he is working a store. Wow! read more

It seems like I find my way here every time I come to DC. There is a friendly rivalry with the Comfort One across the street, but today my shoe salesman, Ukwensi went across the street in the frigid cold, to get me the right sized shoe. Best shoe experience I've had. Stood on this machine that measured the pressure points of my feet. Picked out a shoe and Cindy brought out multiple boxes, to give me similar options plus a couple pairs of orthotic inserts. After going to many other stores, I finally found something perfect. I wanted them in brown, which they didn't have in stock but that didn't stop her from calling other stores in the area to see if she could find them for me. Even though she had no luck, she happily wrote the details of the shoe down so I could find them online, or at another store. Amazing service! read more

This is a small-ish shop, so as it turns out, although they had the brand I was looking for (Jambu), they didn't have the particular style -- but I was so impressed with the service that I'll definitely be back again. They have a machine at the back of the shop that assesses your posture and step, so they can give you precise feedback about what type of shoe is best for you. While the size of the shop limits how many styles they have on hand, they do have a pretty good selection, ranging from casual sandals, to sneakers, to work-appropriate heels. read more

I came on my lunch break ready to buy a pair of Birkenstocks, fairly expensive shoes that need to be tried on. There were a few others in the store buying shoes who got great customer service, but literally all the sales woman did was bring the shoes, which I couldn't do myself. Didnt even bring me one pair because they were out of the color- she could have brought me a different color same style so I could at least try it, which she finally did when I asked her. Didn't ask me anything about the fit and how I liked them. I needed a size down and she just brought me one shoe, did not talk to me or help me even remotely. I know from research Birkenstocks have a learning curve and break in period and she never talked to me about it and basically acted like I was I her way the whole time. I would have bought the Birkenstocks today but no way will comfort one get my money unless they get better staff. Honestly this is some of the worst customer service I have ever experienced. After reading Yelp reviews, I convinced a friend to stop in here. She was more interested in the Comfort One across the street, so we went there first. Afterwards, we stopped in here. The customer service was impeccable and such a difference from the other location! Brad was a patient and incredibly helpful sales rep! Based on my foot problems and style preferences, he found the sandals and shoes which fit perfectly, were beautiful, and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for a better shoe shopping experience! For over twenty years I have gone to this store! I have bought many shoes and always had wonderful experiences with the staff. Shawn O'Neil is there on the weekends and knows everything there is to know about all of their shoes. The other staff are all knowledgeable and helpful. Your feet will feel so much better after they fit you with the best shoes for your feet. I cannot image the pain I would be in without them. They will get shoes from their other stores or special order them for you. They will recommend brands they do not carry, and will not high pressure you. Yes, there are expensive. However, your feet are important and you need good shoes. This is the only place I pay full price, because it is worth it. They have sales a couple of times a year so try to go then if money is tight. read more

I was on a trip to Washington, DC and had brought along shoes that I hadn't warn in a while. When I put them on they hurt, so I went looking for new ones. I wear orthotics, have bunions, and hammer toes. Finding shoes that are comfortable means going to several stores to find something I can wear. The first store I tried was Comfort One Shoes and I was helped by a very patient employee. I ended up with two pairs of shoes! If you have problems buying shoes, or even if you don't, they have a large assortment. I live in Los Angeles, and wish they had a store here. read more

I come to DC about once a year for work, and to go to the Museums, the Kennedy Center, the Monuments - and to Comfort One Shoes. They are the best! I have hard-to-fit feet and the staff at Comfort One are so well trained that they can always find the right shoe for me. They are true professionals. On top of that - they have wonderful stylish shoes - for work, for partying, for work outs. If I could leave 10 stars I would ! 5 for the store and 5 for Tunde, my salesperson who not only knew exactly what he was doing he customized every pair with just the right pad or arch support to make it perfect for long hours on my feet . I went in to the shop before heading out for a 2 week trip to Nepal and South Asia where I would need business attire but comfortable walking shoes that wouldn't be destroyed by dust . If you have a special shoe need - go here, see Tunde and don't waste time looking all over the metro area! I don't usually like spending time in shoe stores but this was an essential errand and Tunde helped me navigate through the options - with service I haven't experienced in a shoe store since "the old days".
