I was thinking about how the other day Toby told me that I'm like a wine drinker and not a label drinker when it comes to food. I care more about the dish than the style of cuisine. I could say I like seafood, but it'd be more accurate to say I like trout or shrimp dishes. Or I could say that I like barbecue--and it'd probably be the most apt description of favorite cuisines--but you could also say I'm more of a fan of St. Louis ribs, burnt ends, and hot links. It's the same with Indian food. I do like Indian food, but I effing love Goat Curry. It's a top 5 dish for me. It's such a premier dish for me that it's one of the dishes I'll scout for by name on Yelp--along with hash, poutine, St. Louis ribs, and trout. And Aroma has some excellent goat curry. It's spicy, spectacular, and gamey in all the best ways. There's something about the smoky, shreddy, and beefy consistency of a long-simmering goat dish that just does it for me, especially when it's drenched in some seasoned and flavorful curry sauce as it is here. It's a perfect storm of everything I like. It's the perfect dish. The space here, though small, is very comfy and has some great music playing in the background. The same too with all the staff, they make their presence known when you need help but otherwise slide into the background when you're trying to ear. It made for a very pleasant environment to eat your meal in peace. It's yet another great place to get your goat when goat is all you have on the brain. Craving some good eats on the drive home, I stepped into Aroma Indian Grill to be welcomed by awkward silence, a potential debate about would serve me. Seating was easy, as there was nobody else in the restaurant. Even for a party of one, though, their maroon tablecloths do be staring back at you before you take a sip of refreshing water. I had their chicken tikka masala and goat cheese and scallion naan. (Note: While ordering, you may be pressured to order more, perhaps a drink or two... or another side...) Ordering and service were pretty quick, and the chef quickly came in to check in on how the food was. Chicken tikka masala? Amazing! I'd come back to order this and only this if I did return... I'm not surprised this is one of their most popular dishes! It was well-seasoned with spices, and the chicken was tender. My favorite was the portion sizes - both the dish and the rice - were generous and appropriate. Goat cheese and scallion naan? Mmmmm, this I'd recommend skipping! It tasted a bit bland, perhaps this combo ain't it, or there wasn't enough scallions... or the goat cheese naan was less interesting than expected. Paying was straightforward, though it took a while, since most of the staff were behind the counter and absent after service. Sharing? Definitely possible to finish both as a party of one - I did! I was looking forward to trying the food here, but I left before I had the chance. I was the only person in the restaurant. The server took my drink order and then walked off to tend to a phone order. After he was off the phone I still sat with no drink. This place doesn't live up to the hype in my humble opinion. All the flavors are there, I just feel like I needed some basmati rice with my dish and maybe some Nan bread. I went here for the first time about 5 months ago and couldn't stop thinking about it since. I recently placed a to-go order with pretty much the same things I ordered last time and it did not disappoint. I will say the entrees don't include rice but 1 order is enough for 2 people. I ordered 2 and had way more leftover rice than I had liked to have. My only "complaint" which isn't really a complaint is how spicy the samosas were this time around. Aroma was one of the places that we just happened to stumble across. We were driving looking for a different restaurant and ended up running into aroma and I will tell you that the name of it fits it so well because the aroma of it is what got us out the car and walking into the restaurant. when you first walk It's really clean nice atmosphere Indian music playing. It definitely gives the feel of a bar, but also intimate restaurant. The host offered us buffet, which was a surprise, but also very convenient. I went to the restroom and the restroom was extremely clean smelled nice. My husband and I were the only two in there when we first walked in and into our surprise it filled up really fast everyone going for the buffet, which had several delicious dishes that we have not tried before like the chilli fish, aloo gobi. We were regulars at Aroma when they were located at their old venue on Foothill Blvd, so it was nice to see them reopen in their present location in the Vanguard center on Mountain Avenue. The present restaurant is divided into a patio area, the main restaurant and a banquet room. The ambience is quietly elegant with its decor of grey and black offerings . We always get the vegetable korma which is absolutely amazing! Very flavorful with a perfect consistency. This time we also got the palak paneer which did not disappoint. The spice levels we requested, 9 on the korma and 7 on the palak, were spot on. We also get one rice and one garlic naan. The naan is delightful with great flavor and a slight crispiness. The portions are generous so we get to bring decent amount of leftovers home. The service is quick and friendly, perfectly attentive and interested in making sure our experience was pleasant. The atmosphere is very comfortable and feels a little upscale. More on the modern side compared to other Indian restaurants. I highly recommend this place, you won't regret it. read more

On the day we were there, It provided many wonderful choices of food: samosas, a variety of different rices, dal, vegetable korma, spinach saag, yummy and moist tandoori chicken, chicken tikka marsala, chili chicken, a very fresh salad, and dessert. The tamarind chutney was fruity and thick. Garlic or plain naan was included. Most impressive was the quality of the ingredients and how flavorful each dish was. They offered both indoor dining and a large outdoor patio.The restaurant is easy to reach, located on the South East corner of Mountain and Foothill in Upland.
