It sits right on the beach, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves is wonderful. Unfortunately, that was about the only thing I enjoyed this time. I decided to splurge on a suite, but I regretted it. For one of the more expensive rooms, it was in surprisingly poor condition: dinged furniture, rusty air vents, a gouged floor, ripped carpet, stained curtains, and sliding glass doors that were so cloudy I had to open them to enjoy the view. The bathroom appeared to have been recently updated, but I found long strands of hair in it. The service was disappointing, too. At check-in, I was told matter-of-factly, "We don't clean rooms during your stay!" I was there for the better part of a week. If I wanted cleaning, I had to request it a day ahead; otherwise, I could go to the front desk for supplies. Having worked in hotels, I understand that housekeeping costs money. Still, after booking a suite, I didn't expect to have to go downstairs for fresh towels or toilet paper. One afternoon, a nap was interrupted by loud talking outside my room. When it continued, I looked out and found a housekeeper talking on speakerphone. Checkout summed up the stay. The only thing I was asked was whether I wanted a copy of my receipt. There was no question about my stay and not even a thank-you. I'd enjoyed this hotel before, which made this visit especially disappointing.

For us, it was Christmas, and the trees and displays were better than at home - bigger, more elaborate, and no fruitcake or spiked eggnog in sight (but maybe they were just hidden in the office). The staircase has that comforting wooden creak, the curtains are lacy and white, the beds are fluffy and warm, and the walls are hung with pictures that would not look out of place at your Aunt Lil's, if she lived on the coast of Southwestern Oregon, which I'll bet she does not. The food is fresh and flavorful, the neighborhood is quaint and quiet despite US-101 being so close, and the surrounding garden is filled with flowers and camelias and azaleas and lots more in-between. You can while away hours on the porch, read by the fire, meet new people at the table, or just sleep long and deep in a room filled with lighthouses. Try doing that at Aunt Lil's. Each day while we were away the room was freshened up. Coffee, instant ceral were provided in the room as well as cream for the coffee. Dishes and glassware were available to use. The room was well supplied with the things we needed. The steps and railings could use a bit of updating for safety and the stairs leading towards the beach area were in much need of repair, to the point that it was not a good idea to venture too far down that path as the lower steps dropped down further than the rest. The handrail at the very bottom was frail and really should not be allowed public access without being made much sturdier. When parking, it required you to back all the way out to the roadway. No viable place to turn around once you drove all the way in. Would we stay here again? Yes we would. I felt it was a good value for the price paid. You could literally hear and see the ocean right from the front room. It is a place that provides a lot of peace and quiet. Probably not the best for a young and noisy partying crowd. Cars & trucks are in and out constantly cruising. No one is in the office, they have a number for you to call for a host, the kiosk outside the office was not working. People unhook their trucks from their trailers ( or toads) and then park them in the front row of the beach, rather then in their site, blocking your view of the ocean. State Park so it's open to the public from 7am to 10pm. Locals come in the evening and bum cigarettes and money, they know the code to the restroom so they ask people for quarters so they can take a shower.... The showers are filthy! The road in and out is full of potholes, speed bumps are not clearly marked, and the overall condition of the RV park has diminished greatly in the last few years. PROS: This full hookup RV campground is steps from the ocean.
