Very dirty this was our first night at this hotel and we found food from previous people and orange peals and nuts that were not ours. And out side there are a lot of random people standing around. If I could give 0 stars I would

Room is old and smelled funny. Bed not too uncomfortable. Ice maker broken. No microwave in room. Chintzy towels. Not enough pillows

Because I want it to be available for just me. But I'm not a selfish person (for the most part). And I must share this life haven with those who seek a place, view and amenities that make the world as you know it - stop. We stayed in the captains quarters. And I can't imagine ever going "back". We had "happened" upon this while making a long weekend following a conference in Ashland. Hoping this glowing and deserving view earns us some consideration when the place is booked solid In the future and we make a habit of coming back again. You're welcome:)

We also enjoyed the comfy adjustable bed with massage function, faux fireplace heater, refrigerator, and smart TV for when we wanted to stay in. John and Nancy were more than happy advise us on restaurants and local attractions though I had done exhaustive research on them already so we were good to go. We couldn't have asked for better hosts! Due to Covid we couldn't gather for breakfast but they were happy to leave fresh coffee, scones (sooooooo good!), and prepared eggs from their chickens. Seriously those scones were to die for! We had a wonderful time getting away to Mermaid's Muse and we can't wait to visit again!

Each day while we were away the room was freshened up. Coffee, instant ceral were provided in the room as well as cream for the coffee. Dishes and glassware were available to use. The room was well supplied with the things we needed. The steps and railings could use a bit of updating for safety and the stairs leading towards the beach area were in much need of repair, to the point that it was not a good idea to venture too far down that path as the lower steps dropped down further than the rest. The handrail at the very bottom was frail and really should not be allowed public access without being made much sturdier. When parking, it required you to back all the way out to the roadway. No viable place to turn around once you drove all the way in. Would we stay here again? Yes we would. I felt it was a good value for the price paid. You could literally hear and see the ocean right from the front room. It is a place that provides a lot of peace and quiet. Probably not the best for a young and noisy partying crowd. Barbara, thank you for your hospitality during our visit.

As someone who appreciates mid-century motels, I liked the original vintage Formica countertop in the bathroom. The baseboard heater worked great. I appreciate the bedside light with the USB charging port, it's such a little convenience that I really enjoy. The microwave and mini refrigerator were also appreciated. Also, I love old motels like this with covered parking in front of the rooms! I was warmly greeted at check in by the motel owner's mother who said she travels out here every summer to help them out. She was a very sweet woman who chatted with me for a bit and was eager to recommend sights and restaurants in Brookings. I would only have a couple recommendations for improvement for the owner to enhance the guest experience and property. First, the room literally had nothing decorating the walls. A few well-chosen, tasteful pieces of wall art could go a long way to making the room feel cozier and more inviting. The other suggestion I have is to lean into the mid-century origin of the building when considering future updates or renovations.

I'm not sure why, as you walked in it smelled like a 1980's casino with the smell of smoke imbedded into the room. But it should have been expected as each neighbor was outside smoking a pack the whole time. The room was clean to say, but there was no screen in the bathroom window and when we opened it, a huge overgrown plant/weed was the only privacy screen .
