Booked the outside Garden Cottage very last minute as a result of another reservation falling through. The host was wonderful and has a great knowledge of the surrounding area if you're looking for tips and areas to visit. The room itself was a small cottage that sits next to the house with it's own parking, private entrance, porch area, kitchenette, and bathroom. It was very cozy comfy and perfect for us! The BNB is also very centrally located to nice beaches, hiking, and walking distance to great dining. Furnishing were older but charming and everything you need is provided. Only downside I experienced was the shower water running a little cold halfway through the second shower. We did not have the breakfast so I cannot comment on that. I found this little jem B&B place on Google. I called for the reservation and Cheryl answered the phone. Right from the start she was extremely sweet and helpful. Upon arriving she greeted us very well, we checked in and she showed us to our room. Me and my wife got the angel room which came with its own bathroom and a temperpedic bed which is very comfortable. This place has great character and you will definetly wont be disappointed in booking here highly recommend it. read more

My wife and I stayed the night of October 13th. When we arrived, no one answered the door. We phoned from the front porch, no one answered, and we left a voice mail. After 10 or 15 minutes, Cheryl let us in, apologizing profusely. She let us know that breakfast was 8:30am if that worked for us. And it did. There was no one in the house when we came downstairs about 8:20am. When a young man returned around 9:00am, he informed us that his dog had escaped during the storm. Understandably, he was concerned, and had left to retrieve the dog. He did offer to prepare a simple breakfast or something to take with us as it was now about 9:15am. At this time due to the weather we asked for something to go. Then he disappeared again! Finally a little after 9:30am we took the fruit in the bag and some sausages and just left. If he initially had left a note or communicated to us the circumstances we would have at least understand what was going on. But when he left the second time that was it. We did send an email to the South Coast Innkeeper but once again, no response. read more

I'm sure you've heard the phrase, "home away from home." Probably about a million times, I suspect. Now, if I were to tell you that spending a night or two at the South Coast Inn is like being "home away from home," do you think that you would believe me? Or simply roll your eyes and mock me for my being so trite? Well, I don't care if you react that way. Because you haven't been here, and so you couldn't actually know that this is exactly what the South Coast Inn feels like. It's familiar and fun, in a family-friendly, come make tea in the kitchen, sit down on the living room couch, watch the sunset on the front porch sort of way. Michael will greet you each morning in the kitchen, maybe his mother will tell you tales of life in Fresno, and Sheryl will have decorated the rooms to suit whatever holiday it happens to be. For us, it was Christmas, and the trees and displays were better than at home - bigger, more elaborate, and no fruitcake or spiked eggnog in sight (but maybe they were just hidden in the office). The staircase has that comforting wooden creak, the curtains are lacy and white, the beds are fluffy and warm, and the walls are hung with pictures that would not look out of place at your Aunt Lil's, if she lived on the coast of Southwestern Oregon, which I'll bet she does not. The food is fresh and flavorful, the neighborhood is quaint and quiet despite US-101 being so close, and the surrounding garden is filled with flowers and camelias and azaleas and lots more in-between. You can while away hours on the porch, read by the fire, meet new people at the table, or just sleep long and deep in a room filled with lighthouses. Try doing that at Aunt Lil's. A home away from home, bed and breakfast style. Get used to it! read more

My husband and I stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast, The South Coast Inn, after week-long whirlwind road trip to California. Although it was raining outside, the place was very cozy and warm. We stayed in the Sea Breeze room and it was very nice with our own bathroom. Michael gave us wonderful recommendations for dinner at the Art Ally Grille. It was the best seafood dinner I've had in Oregon. Breakfast was very nice. Michael's mother, who is as sweet as sugar, came to help and they made a wonderful fritatta, and amazing scones. I still think about those scones from time to time. I would highly recommend booking a stay at this really nice B&B, and hope to come back someday in the future. read more

We have stayed at SC Inn twice, and we were equally impressed during both visits. Michael and Sheryl are exceptional hosts - they welcomed us like we were long lost family, and their enthusiasm is sincere. As Jen B notes, the furnishings are a bit dated, but the hospitality, the food, the gardens, and just the general 'love-ability' of the place makes it well worth the visit. This is the most beautiful place, amazing house, amazing rooms, and amazing garden. I stayed up there for 10 days and i had such a wonderful time. For the quality of the place and service it is well worth every penny. The owners are such nice people and the breakfast is exceptional I wish I could get it delivered. Arrived per reservation on June 11. No one there. Called number several times, no reply. Place looked run down. Went around to the side and saw a two story building, obviously part of the B&B, which had completely burned. Went to the side door of the main building and found the door unlocked. Went in - very dark inside, most uninviting. Found the office door unlocked! We decided that this was definitely not the place for us. Stayed the night at a motel downtown. A woman, presumably the owner, finally called and said we were expected the NEXT day, contrary to our printed "reservation". We told her from our observations that she didn't have a viable business in the B&B game. Most disappointing. read more

We are going to leave this morning after two nights and it is going to be actually a tad sad. Not only did it feel like we were home at my mum's (the ways this is true are too many to count) we were made to feel incredibly comfy by the proprietor, Cheryl. The entire craftsman house is perfectly adorned with antiques and heart felt warmth in a modern Victorian flavor. The stories in the room's guest book speak for themselves. There are three rooms upstairs, but we had the large downstairs room, accessed by a long hallway, bath on the right. Private patio area outside, large King bed, telly and DVD (all the movies you could possibly wish for in the hallway), gas fireplace, antique furniture and delights in every corner, nook and cranny. Top it off with a large bathroom, double sinks, full tub, super, lovely shower. Right now all today's tenants are in the kitchen swapping stories, who knew we would meet someone who knew Juanita from Sonoma thirty years ago here? You can NOT go wrong in Cheryl's care. read more

Little private studio with back entrance. Quiet, but a little musty. There were candles which helped. Cobwebs and big, really big spiders in the closet. Blinds on all windows were really dusty. Gardens were pretty and host Michael was nice. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at South Coast Inn. When I booked the room I chose the least expensive room available because we were just trying to find places as we traveled north up the coast. When we arrived Michael, the owner, said that we were the only guests for that night (early November) and we were free to choose any room we wanted. Wow, what a great way to guarantee a future customer. Michael also cooked us a fantastic breakfast of baked peaches and orange french toast...great start to the day. The place is run down but the host is nice. Breakfast was French toast but was super hard around the edges -- like as if was made few days or weeks ago, froze, and re-heated but it was cold and hard. Fruits were good. We stayed in the smallest room which had no place to put our clothes. Spider webs all over the windows and throughout the room. However, it had a certain charm and I am sure that it was once a great place to stay. Owner said people who was supposed to show up did not make it because of the plane delay and told us we can just take any room we want upstairs which I thought was really nice. Shower was great. It's just really too bad that the place is just going down the hill. By the way, the bed is super comfortable. Just spent a week at this nice BnB. We liked the Rose Room with ocean view and afternoon sun. Owners are friendly and made us feel welcome. They put a lot of effort into the nice breakfasts. The location is great. Easy walk into town where you can find nice restaurants, pubs. Artist workshops. Tap rooms and more. Take a stroll out to Chetco Point for nice views. read more

We had a lovely stay at this bed and breakfast in July. The room was very quiet, the location was lovely, the gardens worth the visit and the breakfast was wonderful. It was nice to visit with the other guests at breakfast (something you don't usually do when staying at a hotel.) I wish we had more time to just relax in the house and garden but there was a lot to see in Brookings so we were busy. It was our first visit to a bed and breakfast and we would definitely stay there again. We showed up without reservations and they were able to accomadate us but you should call ahead for reservations! read more

I don't think I've had a better night's sleep! Room with king-sized bed in main house is so, so, so cozy! And Sheryl, the hostess couldn't have been MORE accommodating. My boyfriend is vegan and gluten-free - and she even made him a special meal for breakfast. Loved our stay here. Definitely would stay again when passing through. read more

My wife and I have stayed here at the South Coast Inn B&B for our summer vacation up the Oregon Coast for the past 3 years and will continue to return. The Innkeepers are wonderful and make us feel at home, the house is very clean, maintained and well decorated. We booked the South Coast Inn 'Garden Cottage' for two nights. It looked lovely on the internet. When arriving, we were taken to the cottage (located on an alley behind the main house) by Sheryl, and upon entering smelled a musty odor. We were told the Cottage had been closed up for a couple of days so we erroneously thought it just needed to be aired out. After leaving the windows open that day, the odor was just as strong that night and the next day. We experienced breathing discomfort and noticed that the bed also smelled musty. We were told by the owner that the de-humidifier had stopped working and he didn't know it. Along with a couple of other issues, it seems as though there isn't much attention to important details like getting rid of the large spiders in the closet as another person mentioned in their rating. We spent our third night across the river at the Portside Suites. It was wonderful_clean, spacious, quiet, beautiful...and less money! read more

My wife and I stayed in the Garden Cottage after a awful time across the way at the Lodge. I had looked online to find another nearby hotel and found this treasure, after reading some of the reviews I was kind Of concerned. I was welcomed by a young women with curly hair, I believe her name was Sheryl. She was very welcoming and took us in as if it was our very own home. The house was absolutely beautiful and very warm and cozy. Once we walked into the cottage my wife instantly laid down on the fluffy soft bed. Country style. Flawless wood bed frame and table. I was able to watch the game on a nice HD TV, and the wife was happy with tea and that big fluffy blanket. Couldn't of asked for more. Had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend you fork out the extra cash and make your trip in such a beautiful town worthwhile. I don't think I could think of a complaint if you paid me.
