Apologies for the delay--this review's long overdue. We stopped here during the Jimmy Carter holiday weekend this year, completely unplanned and super stressed. We weren't even planning to stay in Crescent City, but this place ended up being a total surprise in the best way. We were originally going to book online for $100, but walked in and got a room for under $60. The room was clean, warm, and exactly what we needed. We weren't expecting anything fancy--just something comfortable--and it delivered. We felt totally safe and relaxed there. Yeah, the walls are thin, but our neighbors were pleasant and respectful, and the owners/staff were super chill and kind. They even gave us the option of an ocean view or a "garden" view (which is just the parking lot). We assumed the ocean view would be way more expensive, but it was only a $5 difference. When we stepped outside, the woman at the desk came out and asked, "Do you want the ocean view?" And we were like, "Hell yes." She set it up without hesitation. Just incredibly nice people--professional, warm, and no BS. We ended up with this beautiful view of the ocean. We didn't even bother turning on the TV--why would we, when we could sit there and watch the sunset? It was stunning. This place turned what was a rough, unplanned detour into something magical. If we're ever back in Crescent City, this is where we'll stay. No question. Yes, it's a motel, but don't let that fool you. We've stayed at places like the Hilton that didn't leave half the impression this one did. This place is a gem--affordable, no-frills, but genuinely great. Crescent City itself is super cute, peaceful, and friendly. Thank you so much!

In short, it is a dump-by-the-sea; a real train wreck. Giving it 2 stars instead of one due to it's location on the beach which is a good, but the ONLY benefit of staying here. If it were located anywhere else besides on the beach this place would not still be in business. So many things to advise you of, but here are few of the highlights (lowlights): 1) The bathroom mirror is desilvering and has been for years. See the attached 2 photographs. So bad, it gives a creepy, haunted feel. 2) The toilet is the tiny, kiddie size. About 11" in height, adults sit with their knees up in their chest and the toilet bowl opening itself is so small it's like you're doing your business in a bucket. 3) Carpeting is matted and odorous. 4) The water pressure on a scale of 1 to 10 is a minus 5. You never really get the shampoo out of your hair or soap off your body. Bring a plastic cup to fill with water and pour it over your head for better results. 5) Too many warning signs thumbtacked / glued to the walls. See the attached photographs. Is it really necessary still to be warned about flushing tampons and trash in a toilet . . . by posting them on the walls? 6) The entire room's decor is dated, worn and just needs a complete gutting and updating. But if you're the only game in town (place on the beach), I guess why bother. We stayed in a room facing the ocean. If you decide to stay here, maximize your time on the beach (outside of your room) to get the best value. Learn from me and just stay out of it as much as you can.

Old school motel charm, with stunning beach and ocean views. The rooms are very clean and basic, there is a TV, a table with a couple of chairs, and a coffee maker. There's WiFi. Our room faces the beach, is reasonably quiet, and has a wide porch and deck chair. The views are amazing. Very well priced at $129 for two queen beds. Did I mention the views?

Yes you are on the beach here which is the only reason it is getting 2 stars. If this place had been $40-50 cheaper a night I would have added a star or so. But for almost $200, this run down no amenity motel is way overpriced. There are other hotels that are close enough to the beach to warrant your business. First, when you book you choose a room. I chose one that I could see would be quieter so I wouldn't hear Hwy101 noise. Well they moved me to #2 instead of the one I chose and I heard highway noise all night. Your room opens on the ocean side to a long walk way so you have people walking by your room and hanging outside your room at all hours so you have to keep your curtains drawn often. I can get over that but at times it was annoying. Just now as I was writing this the guy from next door peered right into my room as he went into his from the beach. The hotel itself is beyond worn down. Streaks from age on the sliding door mar the view, rust on the windows, can't figure out why they bother with carpeting in the rooms when it is all one floor and there is sand and dirt outside. The furniture is chipped as are the doors Absolutely no amenities, not even a hair dryer. I was expecting funky and dated but this feels one or two steps beyond that esp for the price. If you use more then 3 keurig cups in your room they charge you $1 apiece. continental breakfast offered is a package of oatmeal, a apple or banana and coffee or tea. The shower took 2 of us to figure out. The TV didn't work well so had to call front desk. The personnel have no personality. Not even really a greeting when I arrived. I travel a lot. I am not a stranger to odd hotels and such. I expected this to be a bit rundown. We are on a road trip so have stayed at roadside hotels but for the price this one really irritated me.

Location, location, location!! this cute motel sits right on the beach. Walk out your sliding door and onto the sand. We found so many sand dollars every morning! The hotel is basic but it is clean and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the back deck watching the waves and meeting our neighbors.

Right on the beach! Sunset was amazing! We were on a roadtrip from San Diego to Portland and this one night stay was a pleasant surprise.

It's a cute little (emphasis on little) motel right on the beach in Crescent City. The rooms were quiet and clean, and the motel was right off the highway, so it was easy to find and access. The staff as friendly and efficient, and I ran into no problems during my stay.

This room also had a VERY big nice TV - much larger TV than in the other rooms! This was our first time to Crescent City and of course we wondered if the fog horn would be a problem (especially given the "warning" on the hotel website). It wasn't an issue for us - but we didn't sleep with the door to the balcony open or anything. You can definitely hear it... but it's not super loud and/or overbearing... when I think "foghorn" I usually think about the super loud blaster that they use at 49er games or something, but this wasn't that at all - not even close! The TV was a little bit of a challenge to figure out, but we figured it out eventually. I can't say that I was crazy about the bathroom layout... with the sink part being in the main room, but the upside to that is there was a LOT of counter space, much more than would have been available otherwise. After a little reflection, I realized there really wasn't a better way to lay things out. I just had to get used to it... and now, I wouldn't hesitate to get the same room again.

Ryan at the front desk indicated that while he technically could modify our reservation, we'd have to go through Expedia since we booked with them - sure, not a problem. I talk to an Expedia agent who says yep, we should be able to modify the reservation. They call the Oceanview Inn, speak with Ryan, who says nope, no can do. When I went back to the lobby (still on the night of check-in) to ask Ryan what happened, he became confrontational. The staff here are unwilling to help their guests or make even minor modifications to reservations, even for services that have not and will not be rendered. Location: Convenient location close to the beach, highway, and Redwood National Park. Other than the national park there is very little to do in Crescent City. Not many good restaurant options. Room: Antiquated. Hasn't been updated in 25 years, uncomfortable bed. The upgraded room we reserved was quite large, however, the walls are thin and we could hear our neighbors all night. Also, the fog horn blows every 8 seconds. Walking to & from the room we noticed the hallways smell like strongly of urine.

Upholstered chairs in the room were worn and had holes. The toilets barely flushed, maybe because they were so old. The AC didn't work, and they do not have maintenance on site, so they gave us a loud box fan to put in the window for the night. They offered to move us for the second night, not the first because they were sold out. By the time the 2nd evening came, I was over it and opted to book a nicer hotel up the road. They then refused to give us even a partial refund. They left a young girl at the front desk who couldn't offer any help other than, "I'll have to call my boss." We requested that her boss call us, and that never happened either. Update & response to site management response: We clearly did need the AC, it is often muggy / humid on the coast. Leaving the window open all night with the noisy fan in it, left the room very humid and muggy in the morning. Not to mention noise from the Best Western next door, and the view of their garbage area. And having staff tell us that they can't make a decision, but have to call their boss is not supportive. Neither is not calling us when we requested a phone call to discuss further. "Not fancy" is one way to put it. Dated and dusty / dingy is another way. It's semantics.

Stayed here on a Tuesday night during the middle of a long road trip. Place was quiet and eerie. With your window open, you are only accompanied by the lapping of distant waves. That is genuinely it. I probably saw 3 guests the course of my 14 hour stay. Eerie right? The dated decor didn't help either. However, I attest that this lodge is worth the stop. All of the workers were nice, the mattresses were extremely comfy, and the views were beautiful. All components of a great stay. Truthfully maybe this place doesn't deserve five stars. But I am rooting for this establishment. I hope you all enjoy oceanfront lodge as much as I did.

Overpriced, undercared for, even the jacuzzi was an eyesore. Images attached. Avoid as much as you can help. Truly a hilariously, awful experience. The only upside to renting the most expensive room for a night, was how absolutely comedically awful the room itself was. We got a good laugh from it. The bathroom as well is the cherry on top of the shit sandwich, it too shares the same austere, low-budget pornographic character as the rest of the room. Like the kind of place you wake up after a night out in Juarez, in an ice bath to find a wound and stitches where your kidney once was.

Though the cleanliness was questionable at a glance, it did carry the overwhelming sent of bleach; so I was pretty certain I wasn't going to contract a disease. Cons: walk in the room and the place reeks of cigarettes and bleach. I can deal with the smell, since it wasn't stale smoke trapped in the fabric of the furniture, but seemingly was just the aroma from every other patron there sucking down their lung darts. However, Not supposed to smoke anywhere near the rooms, but people standing on walkway smoking, and the smoke just wafts into the open window. Just close the window you say? Well there is no heat or ac. Need to open the bathroom and front window to get even the slightest airflow. I didn't want the window open, but if I closed it I may have well camped in Death Valley in the peak of summer. This is also a super sketchy area, in my opinion. Some golem of a creature kept walking back and forth on the walkway. I say golem because every step sounded like their feet were made of solid stone; heaviest footfalls ever!! From the first step on the staircase to the last at the very end of the walkway. Im also fairly certain that the north coast inn is a haven for drug users. People yelling and arguing for at least 30 min. someone drunkenly shouting something unintelligible for a loong period of time. some dude screaming "oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh" like he was being stabbed to death, and at multiple intervals through the night (and there were even more "oh's" but for the sake of writing this I'm limiting the occurrence). some random crack head banging on someone's door wailing and crying. Then her presumed boyfriend arrives and they start peeking in car windows and jiggling car door handles. Had to run them off as I was walking my dog (yes it was that blatant). I did call the cops if you're wondering, but it's California where they coddle and never punish those doing illegal and nefarious deeds. One of them got into the cooler in my truck bed and I had to run them off again. Called the cops again... still nothing. Needless to say I didn't get any sleep. I told the front desk and the kind lady took a note, but didn't seem to attempt to call cops either. You'd think with enough callls to the police, they just might take care of the issue... nope. Also, it's right right off the highway so it's terribly noisy, even if you pretend the screaming, crying, arguing, crack head activities, attempted break ins, wasn't an issue. All in all it was a sleepless and extremely irritable night. I ended up feeling like and looking like the crack head; every noise, I was at the window, peeking out due to the prior issues leading to extreme paranoia. Every moment I finally could relax, some asshole would rev the hell out of this car and jolt me back to consciousness, or the meth addicts would cause me to wake. It's a damn shame cuz the area is beautiful. Not the town, it's a shithole, in a cute coastal town kinda way, but beautiful scenery... this could be a destination location, but poor state and city policy will keep it one of those places you only wanna pass through. I recommend spending more money and staying elsewhere, just for a little more peace of mind. If I were only rating based on the staff, it would be five stars all the way. This review is in no way a reflection of the employees. Unfortunately, the haphazard condition of the facilities, noise, and most of all safety and security concerns bing it down to a two star review. I feel terrible, cuz the staff is trying hard to make the spot as good as they can. I want to give it a much better rating, but in all honesty, I think I'm being too generous offing even two stars. I hope my experience was the exception and not the norm. With that, I'll say: Weary traveler beware.... And Godspeed.
