Stayed here on 8/12/25, and it was really nice. The staff were super friendly, the restaurant had great food, and the room was well appointed. I stayed in a second floor, ocean-facing king bed room. While the view of the ocean was barely there due to everything in the way, it was still a very nice room that had nice amenities. read more

As you last stop in Cali on your way to Oregon, you may be a little dubious of staying here. It looks great from the outside, but you never really know what to expect until you get inside. Arriving Easter evening, there was only one person seemingly working at the lodge, and she was EVERYWHERE. She was straightening, delivering towels, managing the desk, and just being an all-around awesome human being. The room was large and clean. With our check-in, we received a $10 voucher to use on the property (or the gas station across the parking lot). The beds were cozy and the towels were plush. You would think a place like this would be sold out all the time. There's an indoor pool, it's connected to the casino - and by extension the delicious restaurant - and it's just got the greatest people working there and it was a good time to be had by the whole family. read more

The hotel is nice and the rooms clean. The maids are super sweet and very helpful. They made our stay a delight. The restaurant on site was in need of help. We booked our stay because it was an affordable place with a pool, but the pool was closed our whole stay. I wouldn't really recommend it for family stays. I woke up the first day with mystery insect bites that stayed swollen and sore for weeks. Their maintenance staff was super sweet and hooked the kiddos up with hot chocolate and were super professional and helpful. The hotel grounds are beautiful and facilities well kept. read more

My best friend and I decided to spend a few days taking a road trip up the California - Oregon - Washington coast as a fun "just because we never get to spend enough time with each other" bonding experience. Since we were two females traveling alone, I searched online for a nice and safe place to spend the night. Howonquet Lodge fit the bill. I scored a relative bargain online at Expedia (make sure you check the big consolidator sites to save money over booking direct) so I reserved in advance. It turned out to be the best decision I made on lodging for the entire trip! The Lodge is charming and small, flanked by a wooded area on one side and slight views of the ocean on the other. I wouldn't spend extra for an ocean view room here because while you technically will be able to see the ocean, you'll mostly get a view of the vast parking lot. Parking is free and easy, and the hotel felt very safe, even for two females traveling alone. Our room was spacious and comfortable with semi-luxurious linens on the bed (no scratchy sheets here). It was well appointed and appeared to be brand new because everything was in such pristine condition. It was spotlessly clean, from the carpet to the television remote (not a speck of dust in sight) to the large, modern shower. There's an indoor pool and a cute little business center and fitness center, as well as a communal kitchen on the first floor that has free coffee, hot tea, and a Pepsi fountain! The hotel has won all sorts of travel awards so that's always a good sign. Decent toiletries are provided too, so no worries if you forgot your own. It took a while to check in as there was only one girl working the front desk (I had to physically ring an old fashioned bell to make them aware that there were customers in the lobby), but she was super friendly when she finally showed up. She also gave us a $5 casino voucher and a $15 credit to the nearby mini market. (We quickly lost the five bucks on a Miss Kitty slot machine and the $15 voucher came in handy for road trip snacks the next morning). Although we only stayed one night, this is a great property and I highly recommend it. read more

I recently stayed here with my senior mother and daughter with disabilities. I must say this was the best experience I've had traveling with my family. Easy access to the room/ pool/ casino/ restaurant/ bar! The food in the restaurant was great. Our rooms entry way was large, ocean view second floor! Only complaint I have was the vending machine. There was water bottles but the machine said out of stock. Man said he fixed it but it still didn't work. The bar kindly filled our water bottles and there is a gas station across the street. The food and atmosphere here is a casino restaurant. We all know what to expect. What you don't expect is an amazing, friendly, super on it server named Erin! Thank you to her! I watched as host, waitress, food runner and busser. Booked on Hotels.com and was informed that my room was ready when I did electronic check-in so it was to my surprise that I had to pay $20 for early check-in and was told by the clerk that I can wait half hour or pay. $190 + $100 incidentals hold, I was not even able to charge my food to my room. I was told the restaurant is separate from the hotel. My room was very cold and taking a while to heat up. They do have beautiful displays and appears they support local native jewelry artist which is great to see as a local native. read more

We were on a road trip along the California coast and this was actually a highlight of the trip. The room was the biggest room I've ever stayed at, and the shower was so modern and sleek. The staff was super friendly and the restaurant was amazing. The casino is a little small, but they have a great variety of old and new slot machines and it was fun. The Howonquet Lodge advertises it has a "100% smoke free hotel environment", yet they have ashtrays at each entrance and exit, smoking balconies on each floor, and when you walk in the lobby the smoke from the casino is overwhelming. Our luggage reeked of smoke all the way home and required several processes to remove the smell. For two nights we dealt with the people above us causing so much noise and banging that the TVs in our room were shaking. We tried to call the desk using the phone in the room, only to find it was not functional. Using our own cell phones we finally reached the front desk. They said they would talk to them about the noise and the banging. After a couple of hours of the continued noise we called back only to discover that their security chose not to act on the report since it was only around 9pm, even though we told them this has occurred for two nights now. We really needed the sleep to survive the perilous windy roads of Highway 101 but we didn't get any sleep at this lodge. They also did not entertain our suggestion of switching our room. I was shocked to read a review mentioning the place was "clean and comfortable" when my wife went into the bathroom and discovered brown splatter marks on the walls around the toilet and toilet paper holder, which we can only assume was fecal matter. Many of the exterior doors that used card readers to gain entrance into the lodge did not acknowledge the card. Guests were propping the doors open with rugs and nearby rocks, so they could go in and out but this also presents a security risk. My wife and I will never return to this place nor do we recommend it to anyone. read more

There's a small exercise room, heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi! Okay, good stuff. Coffee and sodas offered for free just off the lobby. Staff was incredibly friendly and professional. Double-queen and king rooms. Couple of suites. Walking distance to the mouth of the Smith River. Seriously! LOVE IT! Hiking, biking, fishing, boating, hunting, kayaking or just sit and breathe in the views. Ocean view rooms are a plus! Pet friendly, too. Inquire about rates for both. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights recently. We enjoyed our stay and had no complaints. Two days later we received an adjusted bill by email. I reviewed it and saw a new $50.00 charge had been added. I called to ask what it was, as the bill had already been paid in full at checkout, and was told a wall clock was missing from the room. I assured the person I spoke to that we had absolutely no knowledge of a missing clock. I intend to dispute the charge via our credit card company and will file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau because this is a fraudulent charge. We wanted to warn others. Nice looking motel, but for the money it's a horrible value. The main problem is when I pay good money for anything then I should be right after all I'm the customer. But not here...my dad reserved the room for me and at one point I had gone to swimming pool and purposely left my wallet in my room. So then upon returning from swimming my room key no longer worked (idk why) and the front desk person wouldn't give me access to my room till a manager showed up so there I sat for some 2 hours waiting for the manager to show up.. I was livid. Also the food was yucky. But beside that was just ok rooms were clean, advertises pool but very limited hours of use and no tubs in rooms just showers. For the money I would have had more fun at a super 8 not the unlucky 7. read more

You should definitely stay here. For the price, it can't be beat! We paid $112 on booking.com and got $10 in free casino play, and $10 to spend on fuel/restaurant/gift shop items. The hotel is clean with LARGE rooms, a comfy bed with great linens and entertainment included (the casino). Hubs and I signed up for the casino rewards card and got an additional $5 each to play in the casino. We didn't win big, but had fun on the casino and took home $10 cash. The casino is a little smoky but not too bad. We had drinks at the casino bar - lots of alcohol selection. Just know what you want because there's no fru-fru drink menu (city girls from Portland need a menu!). We ate breakfast at the restaurant before leaving. Big menu of options for cheap, even without the $10 voucher. The food was okay, maybe even good (haven't decided yet). The hotel doesn't have AT&T signal but wi-fi worked right away. The in-room fridge wasn't working when we checked in, but maintenance came and swapped it out. Took about 30 minutes to get it all squared away, but relatively painless. read more

I have been sitting in the lobby for over an hour after a long day of traveling. I had corporate reservations made from the east coast and I've had to wake people up. I'm still sitting here, over an hour while front desk staff gave them a number to a fax in administration that had been turned off. They very clearly do not care how tired I am or who I had to wake up on the East coast. This is the worst customer service I have seen in 20 years of corporate travel. Great hotel! I stay here every time I'm in the area. Rooms are spacious, modern and clean. Free WiFi and a decent restaurant. There's also a casino if that's your thing. Staff are friendly and helpful. Nice view of the ocean right out the front door, or from your room if you get one facing the highway. Just a few minutes drive from Brookings for all your shopping and restaurant choices. The hotel restaurant needs some serious help. For starters it only opens up at 700 in the morning. So if you're an early riser or you have a business meeting to attend in the area this place will not be open for you. Second although the food portions are decent the prices are a little on the high side. Third and most important the quality of the food just isn't there. And the help is sometimes snotty and rude and inconsiderate. For instance breakfast I ordered which came with toast was delivered to my table the toast had fallen on another of the plates of the party I was eating with. So the waitress just grabbed up the pieces of toast with her bare hands and put them on my plate. On top of that I ordered a scramble for breakfast with cheese and when they brought the meal out the cheese was sliced and cut into chunks and sitting on top still cold and hard and the meal itself was barely warm enough to melt the cheese. I also asked if the restaurant had any yogurt because I didn't see any on the menu. When i asked the waitress she just gave me a snotty look and said no and kept walking. Bottom line unless you don't have any other choice for breakfast go head and find somewhere else. You'll be much happier. read more

This was a beautiful hotel just off the 101. The staff was very friendly and took the time to teach me about the native tribe that owns the hotel as well as give me a tour of the facilities. It is apparent that the owners spared no expense on the rooms, as the decor and furnishings are of the highest quality. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The TV was a large (50"-55") LCD TV with all the channels I needed (CNN, FoxNews, CNBC, HBO plus dozens of other high quality channels). The pool was empty and large enough to swim a few laps and the spa was hot and relaxing after a long day. The onsite fitness center was comparable to most other hotels. This was the only 3.5 star hotel I could find for over 100 miles and was well worth every penny. By the way, the room was very affordable, plus they gave me $10 in free play at the casino, in the gift shop or at the gas station across the street. Breakfast was affordable for the large portions at the adjoined casino. I highly recommend this hotel for your next stay. read more

Stay here with confidence. We were very pleased with this place. The Crescent City area has too many poor hotels and this one stands out on the side of excellence. In fact, it's probably the only one to stay at if you crave reasonable comfort and cleanliness, The staff were quick and pleasant at check-in. The also provided helpful answers and resources. The room was nicely appointed and spacious. A good value for the money. There's only one funny quirk. What is described as an ocean view room does indeed provide a distant view of the ocean ... over the parking lot and highway. But it's still quite far away. If you don't care for traffic noise, then you might prefer to choose the other side if you want to sleep with the porch doors open. read more

Room was clean and all fixtures worked properly. Christmas decorations were nice and staff was helpful. Only gave it 4 stars since breakfast was just okay. Had omelette which was bland and potatoes were a bit greasy. With Brookings not far away, I would take the drive for better food. read more

I must start by saying... do not be misled by their website. There is no ocean view, so don't bother paying the extra 15 bucks for an "ocean view with balcony." The "ocean view" is actually a view of the main parking lot and highway 101, plus a slight view of the fuel mart on the north end of the building. Also, the "mountain view" (your other option) is a view of the casino, back parking lot, and a grassy field that looks like it hasn't been taken care of since the west coast was settled. Don't get lured into thinking you'll actually recieve some sort of view with your stay. At check-in, there was no employee to be found... we had to stand around waiting for about 20 minutes before someone eventually came to the desk to help us. When they did arrive, they were very blunt and unfriendly. Not rude, but a little too eager to get us away from the desk so they could continue whatever they were doing beforehand. Same experience when we checked out. As for their overall customer service... let's just say there is A LOT to be desired. The room itself I was happy to find was very nice, did not have the typical cigarrette smell that most casino hotels have (or any hotel for that matter,) and seemed as if the cleaning employees put more effort into their work than the receptionist. The room was decent sized, but not much larger than your typical hotel room. The thing that got me most excited about the room was the shower. The bathroom itself was large and very nice, but that shower was definitely unexpected for a hotel room. If you stay here, you'll see what I'm talking about. Don't get too excited about the "cable with premium channels" since you'll only have 5 or 6 channels available. Not a huge deal since we weren't on vacation to watch TV though. The room was very nice, as I said, but looking back I wish I would've saved a little money by paying less for a room somewhere else. The only reason the review is getting 3 stars out of me is for the room... the customer service was bad enough to never stay again. My recommendation would be to save some money and stay somewhere in Crescent City or Brookings. read more

Had a very enjoyable 1 night stay here recently during a drive up the coast. At $153 for a double room it was a bit pricier than I wanted to spend, but it was worth every penny. The room was huge, in exceptional condition and absolutely spotless. The beds and linens were very comfortable. We made a reservation for a room here because the reviews were good. Once we got there, after hours of driving, it turns out they overbooked. It was night time and everything around the was booked. And with a small baby that is a nightmare. That is the reason we called and reserved ahead, to avoid extra driving. Very disappointed with the hotel. My husband and I stayed here for a few nights back in July while we were looking at property in Oregon. The place is nice enough, situated in an area where you can view the ocean (it's not on the ocean front, but it's visible from some of the rooms) with the smells and atmosphere you'd expect in a casino. We arrived at 2:45 P.M. hoping that maybe they'd let us up to our room early since we had driven over five hours to be there. The receptionist informed us that our room was not ready and that we would be required to wait until 3:00. We waited until a little after 3 before going back to check on the status of our room. The receptionist insisted that we continue to wait as our room was not ready, and gave instructions to check back closer to 4. When it was finally 4, the receptionist checked us in and issued our keys, saying that our room was now ready. We arrived to a room full of surprises: The bed was unmade, there was a half-full cup of coffee sitting on the dresser, the toilet was stained with fresh urine, and used towels had been tossed into the shower. We went back downstairs to complain that we had been waiting for over an hour for a room that was not ready for us, and the receptionist immediately referred us to her manager. The manager went up to investigate the room, and returned 10 minutes later, apologizing profusely with keys to a new room and promising us a discount. Two days later when we were checking out, we learned that the manager had been fired and no discount had been applied to our account. The new manager knew nothing of this offer, but was gracious enough to allow it. The rest of our visit was wonderful and we enjoyed the many attractions that the Wild River Coast had to offer, in spite of the issues we faced on check-in. read more
