The most comfortable bed and sheets ever! The rooms were decorated really nice and gave you a cozy feeling when falling asleep for the night. The price ($70) and good reviews sold me on the place. The owner was really nice and kind when making the reservation, then checking in. One downside was the lack of dinner locations. The closest restaurant was in Crescent City 20 miles away. I wish we knew this before checking in. Also, the blinds were a little thin. When the neighbor room left at 5am, our room lit up with his spot light car lights. If you are traveling along the 101 in northern Cali, sleep here! It's worth it! read more

We were pleasantly surprised with this lovely motel. We were traveling on a busy weekend and every hotel we called was sold out but one room at the Ravenwood. We didn't see any photos prior to coming to the motel and our experience far exceeded our expectations. Our room(23) was very clean and decorated so nicely in a beach house style. There was a full kitchen, living room, and a bedroom with 2 twin beds. The carpets looked brand new and well kept. The staff was very friendly and helpful with planning our daily activities. One thing I liked was the cool view of the forest on the mountain side, that I could see from the parking lot (I come from southern California, we have nothing to compare to the incredible , redwood trees in nor cal. What is up with these dimly lit motel rooms, I guess the idea is to check in, drop off your bag, do your running around and sight seeing and then crash. The room was clean, the bathroom was stocked with shampoo and soap. I would stay here again. Review of the reviews. I have stayed in motels (I just need a place to crash, not looking for the 5 star service) and this is one of the nicer ones. Trying to impress your Significan other with selecting a top notch hotel with all the trimmings, then go to a travel agent. Motels are like studio apartments, a bed, a tv, maybe a night stand, a decent bathroom. The reason why it has thin walls, dimly lit, and maybe some damage on the walls is, you are not suppose to hang out here, or stay for a whole weekend for your convention. If you use a SERVICE DOG I suggest you come to this motel. The owner loves animals and will be happy to accommodate you. Ha, ha just kidding. I do not have a service dog and did not try to represent him as such but this is what happened. On Saturday August 5. 2018 at 9 PM, my family and I stopped at the Ravenwood Motel in Klamath, CA and was lucky enough to get one of the last hotel rooms available from Gold Beach, OR to Eureka, CA. We know it was one of the last because we had called or gone into every hotel between Gold Beach and Klamath and there were ZERO available. There are huge wildfires occurring all over and a weekend so no availability. I happily took the room and paid the $125.00 on a credit card and was gratefully heading to our room. I had told the guy how great it was to have found a room because there were none available and my super sweet and polite son had chatted with him and thanked him for having a room for us and what a nice motel it was and how we were going to the Trees of Mystery the next day for his birthday etc etc. As we were leaving he said "No smoking, No Pets" and I replied "OK, no problem." My very friendly, talkative 8 year old said "We have a dog, but he stays in the truck". The guy IMMEDIATELY told me to give back the key and that we couldn't stay there! I was stunned and asked "Why? The dog sleeps in the truck and will not be anywhere near the hotel room". "Nope, no dogs on the property", I relaxed and said "Oh, no problem, we can park the truck at the casino next door". " NO, you may not stay here if you have a pet!" he shouted at me. My son goes running back to the truck in tears. I felt like crying myself, I promised the guy repeatedly that my dog would stay in the truck, as he ALWAYS does unless we have a pet room in a pet friendly motel and the guy would not budge. I offered a damage deposit, still no way, it was his rule! He absolutely did not care that there was no place else to stay and that it was 9 PM. We ended up driving another 3 hours all the way home through dense fog. But the worst part of this whole experience is my son got punished for not lying to the jerk. So if you don't mind a little confrontation, want to annoy the hell out of an asshole hotel owner, have a service dog and a decent lawyer, stay here. read more

My boyfriend and I were traveling through California and this was our first stop. We chose to stay here because of the price and good reviews. With 4-5 stars on many internet rating sites and stays at under $70 a night we were sold. All other hotels/motels/BB's in the area had cheapest rates at $90-$140, and didn't get as good of reviews. The location is along 101 south of Crescent City. It's very close to many Redwood attractions and has a bar across the street (which we didn't go to). The owners were really friendly and helpful without being pushy or in-yr-business. The room is small but big enough and has really comfortable beds and a nice bathroom. I don't have any complaints. Great place, really cute. I liked the decorations. read more

We stayed here overnight on our way through the state and national redwood parks in the area, and since there isn't a whole lot of "civilization" in the area, we had pretty low expectations. But this was a great place. We got a suite of sorts-- bedroom with queen-sized bed with a living room with a fold-down futon, and a full kitchen-- for about $140 or so. Very clean, friendly owner-folks, etc. This would be a great place to stay if you were going to the area for hiking, fishing, or other outdoorsy stuff and you didn't want to camp. It is definitely "rural" though and not luxury. For example, if you're coming to stay for a couple of days, pick up groceries in Eureka or Crescent City before you get here because they will send you back that way to a grocery store anyway. read more

We stayed here one Saturday night. It was very nice, we had a "suite". It was a decent value, slept 4+ adults (two single beds, 2 double beds). Had two bathrooms. It was clearly two single rooms where they cut a hole in the wall to make a "suite". Everything was clean and well maintained. The owner was super friendly, although their "reservation" process was not the best - kinda low tech. Ample parking. Nice little garden areas to sit out and enjoy a break. The beds were a little squeaky but comfortable enough. The rooms lacked a fridge - which I missed. He said his internet was broken - so no wifi and not great cell signal (we had all 4 national providers and none handled this town well at all). I don't know if the broken internet is a long term thing. As far as location: Not much in this town - the bar across the street is super divey, and very smoke filled (this is an Indian Reservation so they can allow smoking in contradiction to CA law). The casino next door has a restaurant. The gas station on the other side has a fast-food chain inside, and a fairly decent selection of goods for the middle of nowhere. So it was fine for a drive through the redwoods - but I probably wouldn't want to stay here for a long vacation... read more

My husband and I made a stop here on our honeymoon as we missed our campsite check-in. The staff was very friendly, the rooms are amazingly well kept and the atmosphere is very cozy. The rooms are also the most affordable in the area, $75/night plus tax. You can tell that this motel is well-loved and well-taken care of. I just had a similar experience of the Twilight Zone from Ravenwood Motel. I think it was the owner I was speaking with on the phone but it was the strangest conversation I've ever had! I called to cancel my 2 rooms for next Tues/Wed/Thurs. Four of us were on a yearly fishing trip from Bay Area. Our fishing guide told us the water had not been released from Klamath Lake and the Klamath river was low and warm and without adult salmon. He told us we would have to postpone the trip. We were extremely disappointed. I have stayed at Ravenwood Motel in the past but it has been a few years. I remember it as clean and nice. Not only did we have reservations next week at Ravenwood we also had a 3 night reservation booked the first October at Ravenwood for a second fishing trip. Here is when it gets strange! When I called the motel to cancel next weeks reservation the gentleman on the other end of the line said that he would just have to cancel my reservations for next month also. I asked him why he was canceling next month. I told him we still needed the reservation and I asked if I did anything wrong or outside of the cancelation policy. I felt "Black Balled" for canceling my reservation! He told me to have my fishing guide call him if we ever wanted to stay there again. That will be the last thing I would ever do! That guy was very strange and a little crazy! I'm not sure what he is capable of.... Another Twilight Zone episode. Pretty scary! read more

It may only get 2 stars from AAA, but it gets 4 stars from me because there's a lot of shady lodging in this area and this place was very nice and no more expensive. Owner was very friendly, room had great lighting with generously watted bulbs for reading. Clean and confortable. $58 a night. TV was a bit small and bad reception and Continental breakfast was a bit lacking, but I'm not complaining much because you don't come to this part of the world for luxury. Best place to stay in Klamath or Cresent City by far! Very affordable, excellent rooms and options, perfect location (center of multiple redwood parks), quiet, quaint and on and on. My complaints are similar to others: Their website needs help, Continental breakfast was limited (no protien?) and if you're there on a weekday, good luck finding... well, anything. Every place in town closes well before dinner time and most aren't open on days other than fri-sun. This is typical of the North Coast in any town so I can't dock them for it. :) Overall, I'd recommend this place over any place I've stayed at in Cresent City or any other nearby towns. The owners are very affable and helped with all sorts of information. If you're staying over, make sure you're out of your room before room service comes around or you won't get fresh towels or garbage emptied by them - you do it yourself. :) read more

My husband and I found this place on the fly during our 1st anniversary coastal road trip. We were hoping to do more camping but the weather wasn't cooperating. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! Don't be afraid of the initial "Bates Motel" set-up, this place is very clean and well run. Nice decor in the rooms, fantastic continental breakfast, and some cute garden spots outside. Just don't expect fast wi-fi or large tvs. Inexpensive for all we got, only $70 midweek during off season. We even thought of staying a second night, but we've got more places to see! read more

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights and 3 days during Memorial day weekend, this is really nice small, calm place. Very clean rooms, bath area, housekeeping do a nice job. Each room is a different theme, we got the white room, with all the sheets, curtain white in color with matching wall hangings, our friends got a black room..a nice touch. You get complimentary breakfast, the old guy who runs this place keeps checking if there is enough food (not like some of the other big chains!). The location is also nice, very near to Mystery Trees, River Boat tours. When you open the door in the morning you will be greeted with a evergreen hill, just in front of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again! read more

I've stayed at this place several times over the years, and have been appreciative of how clean and comfortable Ravenwood is... They have a well stocked hospitality room, that even has a piano. The location is perfect for those wanting to hike the redwoods - both the southern and northern sections are relatively short drives away (about 20 -25 minutes either direction - some of the northern most sections are a little further to drive). The property is on a Yurok Native American reservation - that now also has a brand new casino, and a chain hotel. Not sure, how this will impact Ravenwood, hopefully it will remain a great place to stay at for travelers. read more

After having a not so good experience at one of the motels on our way to Redwood forests, we stopped by at Ravenwood Motel. From the face of it, it seemed like just another motel where we could barely be pleased. But this place came as a big surprise. From a tasteful decor of the rooms to taking care of some of the small yet important things, this place was a gem in this area. For around $65 per room, it was a perfect stay for us in the redwood forests. They even have a separate room where they keep chess, piano & other board games for people to spend their time in addition to some snacks. The owner is also a very nice and warm person and staying here feels like home.. Highly recommended !! read more

Just fine. Positives: Nice guy runs the place. Room was clean (see exception below) and linens were very crisp and the beds in the bedroom (see below for alternative) comfortable. Negatives: mildew on the bathroom ceiling. The "futon" in the living room felt like a box spring...lumpy, hard, with wires poking out. There was definitely no mattress on this thing. read more

We stayed here on 17 June 2011 and I must say that this place has set a new standard for 'motels' for us! Not only was the room done up very well, at $81 (including taxes), this was also the best deal in the area! We stayed in a non-smoking, no-pets, queen sized bed room. Parking was right outside the room, making it easy to unload/load stuff from the car. There is a little hill right outside the motel, and it was lovely to watch it slowly appear from beneath the fog in the morning. Continental breakfast was included in the room rate (bagels, cereal, milk, juice, tea/coffee, muffins and 1-2 other baked goodies). The owner was super friendly, and helped us in refining our itinerary in the redwoods. Klamath is centrally located with respect to all the four state parks and the national park - and can hence serve as an ideal base to explore this area. We will definitely come back to this place! read more

We made a reservation well in advance for a suite for 2 days during the long weekend based on the positive reviews on yelp/trip advisor. Verbal confirmation was given on the phone and the credit card details were taken. What followed was a very shocking experience. On our way to Klamath, we made a call on the first day of reservation to confirm on the check-in time. However we were informed that our names were not on the list for the two days (July 4th and 5th) that we had booked. We double checked all details and called the person handling the call again in half an hour providing all the necessary details of the booking from our side. She then changed her answer saying that she had a reservation for us only for 5th July and not 4th July, and someone is already in the suite reserved for us for that day. She said that she made the reservation for us only for the next day. I am sure I made a reservation for both the days, but the lady on the phone was unapologetic and would not accept that our reservation was missed by them. We had to stop midway and make alternate arrangements for the first day. Since it was the July 4th long weekend, we went through a harrowing time, in finding motels that can accommodate for that night. Luckily we managed to find a place two hours away from Klamath. We had to cut down our plans for the day due to the unexpected turn of events. The next day morning we travelled to Redwoods and hiked there. We thought of checking in at Ravenwood motel at around 8pm and later get our dinner lest we are turned down if we arrive late at the motel (we read another review by someone who were turned away since they arrived later than 11.00 PM - we wish we had read that review before booking a room with this hotel!). We were extremely tired and when we went to check-in we were told that our names are not in the list AGAIN!!! Moreover, there is no phone network connectivity in that area to make any calls to make any alternative arrangements. She acknowledged that she did confirm us of the reservation on the second day, but she cannot do anything now as someone else has occupied our suite. We tried our best to find any accommodation nearby, but couldn't find any as every motel is fully booked for the long weekend. From a landline phone, we even tried to get accommodation in locations that are 3 hrs away from Klamath, but couldn't find any. This left us with only one option. We cut short our trip and drove home that night which is more than 300 miles away from Klamath. We were hungry, exhausted and very disappointed; not to mention the perils of driving through thick fog in a hilly area late in the night. Please get a confirmation mail from them after your reservation lest you end up spending the night in the car. We had a very difficult time and I am hoping no one else goes through this nightmare.... All in all, we do not recommend going to this motel. Business shouldn't be all about money and demand and supply, it should be about honoring a deal that has been made. What if this was a family with little children? How would a tired couple cope? Where would they rest? The lady didn't seem to care at all. Calling other hotels, asking them whether they had rooms, and failing to find one, and grossly disowning all responsibility, isn't exactly caring, given the nature of her mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, but owning up and going all out to correct it is a basic trait of honesty and integrity. We gave them a second chance when we knew we could get another room for July 5th in a nearby hotel chain. They successfully made us regret that. read more

This place is really something... We stayed here two years ago, and had a nice experience. Then last year we called to reserve a couple rooms, and we were told that they were booked. This year my wife called to reserve two rooms, and the owner told us that we're on the black list of people who they will not rent rooms to because of something we did last year. The first year we left the place spotless, and when my wife tried to explain to him that we didn't stay there last year, he said his records showed differently and he didn't want to argue. Terrible customer service. We have been coming her for close to 10 years for our annual fishing trip and this year we booked 3 rooms at the Ravenwood Motel for Saturday Sept 1, Sunday September 2 and Monday September 3rd. We arrive on Saturday in the afternoon to check in and the Owner rudely tells us we are out of luck because he has rented those 3 rooms. I asked him to explain and he proceeds to tell me that we were supposed to arrive on the 31st and when we didn't arrive he gave our rooms to other parties. I asked him how does this happen? I showed him the dates on my mobile phone in the calendar section and he tells me I must have booked them wrong. The problem with booking with this place is they do not provide a confirmation number or even an e-mail for you confirming the dates. They use the little black book method and the owner tells me it must have been my mistake because it wasn't his. I asked him if he thought we no-showed why didn't he call us and find out if we were still coming up Saturday and Sunday. I told him when we booked it we were fishing on Sunday September 2nd. He rudely stated we don't do that! He stated to me you are just out of luck. We found a great place to stay just 3 miles up the road on the right hand side of Hwy 101 which I would highly recommend to everyone called Woodland Villa Cabins. Our fishing trip turned out great but I will never stay at this place again. Their Customer Service is horrible!!! read more

You might consider staying here overnight while visiting the Redwood Casino next door. Our medium sized room #17 ($70) heated up in about 2 hours after we turned the baseboard heater on on a cold December evening. In the meantime we ate in one of the few restaurants within walking distance, the Abalone restaurant in the casino, which was reasonably priced and very good. To continue with a review of the room, it had 3 very well designed chairs, 2 tables, desk, 3 lamps, a small TV (that got just a few channels clearly) in a beautifully made wardrobe, a phone, a comfortable bed and excellent shower, but no microwave or fridge (these last two, however, you'll find in the Hospitality Room.) Although there was some mold smell at first, it dissipated when the room heated up. More importantly, to me at least, was that there was no tobacco smoke smell. The room has been recently refreshed with a gold and brown color scheme with an unusual band of wallpaper around the top of the wall. The manager is very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed tea and coffee in the Hospitality Room in the evening and a complete Best Western Hotel-style continental breakfast in the morning. Besides a sink, full fridge and microwave, there were several flavors of coffees, cocoa, HB eggs, cakes, muffins, hot and cold cereal, canned fruit and cottage cheese, and fresh fruit. There was also a piano, games, a small library, and wood craft items such as bird houses. The room is quite newly painted and furnished with 3 glass top tables and chairs where you can sit and read with a cup of tea. There's also a nice garden along the northern edge of the parking lot with 2 gazebos and other areas for group get togethers. Just over the fence are three Yurok cedar plank houses set in a small park that are interesting to visit too. read more

This was a great little motel, but was actually more like an inn. My boyfriend and I went in March to go visit the Redwoods and this motel was amazing. For the price, I was so surprised with all the amenities we got. It was the cheapest out of a lot of options, and much nicer and cleaner. The rooms were all individually decorated and the proprietor was very knowledgeable about the area and sights. Only 15 minutes from Crescent City, it was still close to some good restaurants for dinner. If I go back to the Redwoods, I would definitely go again. read more

Stayed at Ravenwood for the Klamath Festival in August 2011. We enjoyed our stay there. Room was clean and toiletries were provided that matched a hotel style presentation. This is a really sweet motel. The owner (I guess?) was really friendly and seemed to be always open for a chat. We had a sweet, cozy room and quite a beautiful bathroom with bathtub. The internet did not really work in our room, but hey, I hope you don't go there because of the internet. It was a fly by the seat of your pants kind of weekend and I found myself on the northern California coast around sunset. I didn't want to keep riding and freeze or sleep next to my bike on some back road in Bigfoot country but every place I stopped into or called from Eureka to Crescent City was either booked up, out of my price range, or super sketchy. At about 9:45pm something told me to check out this little place and I'm glad I did. Very well kept and clean room, good water pressure in the shower, and complimentary little breakfast that was better than many I've experienced. The price was right as well, although I can't comment on if it was a normal rate or if she took pity on me. She seemed like a woman of few words but I appreciate that quality. I'm so glad I found this place - helped my weekend to be an adventure instead of a disaster. read more

My family stayed at Ravenwood in June 2016, having made our reservations over the phone. Looking forward to our stay as my parents had owned/operated a small motel in the 60s. We were so disappointed in our room. Upon opening the door to our room we were hit with a horrendous odor. Upon further inspection we realized the place was in deplorable condition: paint peeling off the wall, bugs, dirt and cobwebs in corners, broken window blind, stained sheet, stained lampshade, carpet had not been vacuumed, mattress in bed sank in the middle and made a horrible crunching noise with the slightest movement. Worst bed we've ever encountered. There was an issue with the electrical because a note was left not to use certain appliances at the same time. It was the only motel available. We were stuck or we would have left. The reviews we had read made this place sound great. We discovered that is not the case. We were very disappointed and we do not recommend it. read more
