TERRIBLE SERVICE & MANAGEMENT... great food though :/
Over the past several months of hearing all the positive reviews regarding the menu options, I had to try Ariete. I anticipated a crowded Sunday brunch around noon, so I called in for takeout as opposed to dining-in. Upon entering, however, the restaurant was seemingly empty. As a Groveite, I appreciate the fact that we are surrounded by so many great places. With the recent influx of "big name" chefs, I truly hoped that Ariete would live up to the great expectations of both itself, and the many other casual fine dining establishments in the Grove, but was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the mere 10 minutes of life I spent there.
On the bright side, the food was ready and bagged prior to my arrival... This is where the experience begins its spiral into revealing the HORRID MANAGEMENT PRACTICES & CUSTOMER SERVICE. These two factors are essential to running a good business in literally ever single service industry, as anyone who has ever eaten at a restaurant, gone to the gym, spoken with associates at a retail store.. (I could spend days writing a list of every instance, but as I previously stated my 10 minutes in Ariete was already a waste of valuable moments on Earth)...
Anyways, back to my hellish takeout order (sounds like an oxymoron being that this should be less stress on a restaurant in that it requires virtually zero attention outside of the kitchen)...
The bartender (named "Bartender" according to my receipt) politely hands me the order (Carrot Cake Waffles, Benedict, Donut, and Honey Buns) priced at $46.44, also according to my receipt -- I will delve into this a bit more momentarily, I hand the gentleman $60 and await my change as is common practice at every single restaurant unless otherwise stated by the customer.. He turns around to the cash register to seemingly ring up the order and do so, however, upon taking out a $10 bill and a stack of $1 bills he stood there for over 5 minutes shuffling through the money on the counter with his back facing me. Three attempts to get his attention failed, although there wasn't a single patron sitting at the bar, to which he was "tending", so at this point it became seemingly evident that the intent of his behavior was to keep the entire $13.66 in change as a tip.
I am not the confrontational type, and walked back to my car where my girlfriend was waiting to return home and eat. Upon hearing of my experience, she took it upon herself to go request to speak with a manager, to which she was shunned away and given the change to which I was entitled (I had actually planned on giving this guy the $10 because his bar was empty, and I am typically a generous tipper (this would have been over a 22% tip, on TAKEOUT).
While this occurs, I am sitting in the car with her dog and glance at the menu again online because the bill seemed a bit more expensive than I had calculated when calling in the order 30 minutes prior... It was.. The waffles were marked up by $3, the honey buns, by $1, and the doughnut, by $1.. AND it was marked as "DINNER".
Fast forward 5 minutes..
Ariete's manager is removed from a meeting to take the phone call regarding this matter because it is now evident that none of the employees there are competent enough to handle a situation that arises.. This is where my mention of HORRID MANAGEMENT comes into play.
Not only did the manager not so much as offer a name, an apology for the behavior of her employees, or an explanation for the various inconsistencies on the receipt. It was after I mentioned the possibility of an upcharge for take-out, or a potential disclaimer regarding prices changing on the menu, that she exclaims this to be the case!
Fast forward 5 minutes again..
The food was a bit cool at this point and is reheating in the oven, but, it is most certainly delicious, so I blame this dilemma on the time it took to leave the restaurant since I live 5 blocks away from Ariete...
As the oven is working it's magic, I hop on the computer out of curiosity to double-check the manager's statements regarding the disclaimer I supposedly overlooked on their website.. THERE IS NOTHING STATED AT ALL.. This is where I lose total respect for Ariete's management and customer service.. So now, the manager, whom I can't refer to by name because she did not state one, and the bartender, whom is apparently named, "Bartender, have lied to and ignored a customer, respectively (haha that was punny!)... I'm sure someone on their legal team will hop on this issue immediately, but feel free to check it out while it is still below BBB standards :)... (http://www.arietemiami.com/menu/).
I recommend Ariete to anyone who wants a decent brunch at semi-affordable pricing... IF you feel that good food is worth being treated like a second rate citizen by the team and management... There are countless restaurants with original concepts, immaculate food, AND GREAT SERVICE in the Grove, why bother?? read more
