We are avid spa goers and were excited to try Argentta for our wedding anniversary. The good news is the technicians, Theresa and Tiara, were excellent. However, the rest of the experience was awful. First, there was no spa attendant. They point you to the changing room and you're on your own. I had to help another patron figure out how to use the locker. Second, the spa was a mess - with sandals and garbage all over the women's changing room and trash in every empty seat/stall in the waiting area. I had to ask twice for the areas to be cleaned so we could sit down. No one offers you a drink or anything. The waiting area is way too small - there were not enough seats for everyone waiting for an appointment. It's supposed to be relaxing and it was just a disappointment. Will not be back. read more

I visited Argentta yesterday after purchasing a Gilt City deal a few weeks ago. I signed up for a Silver Moon Salt Scrub and arrived a couple hours ahead of the appt. to take full advantage of the facilities. This spa has everything! The front desk attendant gave me a tour and encouraged me to use all the amenities. I did a bit of foam rolling & trx in the well appointed gym, grabbed a water & apple and headed back to the locker room to change for the pool. The saltwater pool is large with a unique layout and has these really amazing spouts that shoot water down on you for a bit of a water massage. The pool temp was perfect (sign said it was 85 degrees) and completely relaxing. The large jacuzzi was at 95 degrees and again perfect temp, not too hot. There are metal lounges in the jacuzzi to lay on, but again, there are two spouts that shoot out hot jets of water and I sat under those for quite a while, melting away any tension I was holding in my back, shoulders & neck. I also spent a bit of time in the steam room and sauna. Both areas spacious and luxurious and the steam room aromatherapy was divine. I then retired to the relaxation room to chill out before my service. The lounges are equipped with side table and comfy blanket for cover. As others have noted, there isn't much in the way of reading material, but I did read both magazines (Vanity Fair & Conde Nast Traveler - so both high quality) available and had some of the herbal tea and infused water while I waited. I was offered champagne and macarons - both of which were DELICIOUS! At my appt time I was greeted by my therapist Jamie. He was delightful. I asked for a more exfoliating scrub vs relaxing and he was perfect. The shower within the room to rinse off salt scrub was bigger than my entire bathroom at home and I could've stayed in the shower forever. The shampoo, conditioner & soap all smelled heavenly. Jamie later informed me the shower is infused with Vitamin C. The treatment ended with a light massage of floral oils. I felt so relaxed after leaving the spa. I loved the entire experience. Will definitely be back. What a treat! read more

The facility is great and I have a favorite therapist. That alone would suggest a higher rating. But I can't seem to get anyone on the phone to make the appointment!! You get a recording that tells YOU to call back. What is that?! The online booking system is subpar as well. I've finally given up despite my best efforts to make another appointment. The other downside is the locker room is small. It's a tight space and they only have 2 showers and 2 bathroom stalls. read more

Would not recommend, and one star is being gracious on my part. Went this past weekend for the first time as a gift -- worst spa experience ever. Actual massage was acceptable but everything else about the spa and facilities was substandard in my view. Specifically: 1) locker room cramped and had to go through 4 lockers before I found one with a workable lock, 2) "relaxation room" was so loud it sounded like happy hour, and could hear laughing and shouting during massage, 3) SHOWERS HAD NO HOT WATER, 4) no shower slippers to wear in shower stalls, unsanitary, 5) no toiletries such as deodorant, cologne, hair products, etc. 6) facilities generally looked old and run down. read more

Can not speak of gym or pool...BUT on the massage treatment rooms! Argentta has lost it's way. The current manager/supervisor seems to think that the relaxation area is a euro-cocktail bar with bad beat/groove music playing far far too loud. Evidence of it being too loud is the fact that once in a treatment room for a tranquil massage the BEAT music is still penetrating the treatment rooms where there the classical music is being played loud to help counter the pulse of euro-cocktail bar music in the hall. So as you lay there thinking you can relax...you hear two music fighting one another for ambiance. How on earth does anyone in charge of Argentta massage services think that loud beat music in the relaxation area makes any sense or even closely resembles a tranquil experience? I know the music is too loud when speaking with a therapist in the relaxation area..we both had to raise out voices for a simple conversation. Complete waste of 300 dollars. It was not relaxing. I rushed out to get the hell away from the noise and where DC streets were quieter. read more

3 of my friends and I booked massages for a Girls Day A couple of weeks ago. The good parts - the hotel is beautiful. Every part of it is done to the 9s. The staff is friendly. The steam room and locker room are very nice and well kept. The pool and hot tub are beautiful and comfy. The pre-massage area is very nice. The exercise room has a ton of equipment and my friends loved it. The disappointment - I booked a Warm Spiced mud wrap. After we booked, my friend said they called her at least 5 times during the week to discuss rescheduling time for the day. Fair because there were 4 of us trying massages that day. Then the day of, they rescheduled again when I walked in. That was frustrating. It all worked out, but just created a bit of chaos. The $170 I paid for the mud/wrap massage must have just been for the rest of the experience because it was absolutely not worth it. The mud was applied like lotion. Barely noticeable. I just had a sheet placed over me and that was it. The room was not very warm. I have had a lot of different kinds of massages over the years. Including mud ones and this was a total let down. There was nothing really warm, wrapped or mud about it. Any time I have ever had something similar done, at an equally nice hotel and spa and also for quite a bit less, I have been encased in the sheet, warming blanket placed over me, and I could tell their was mud on me. This just was not the case. For that price, it should have been a stellar experience. Sadly, it was not. There was also a lot of outside noise. The massage was just ok. I pay $150 for a 1.5 hour massage in Del Ray every few months that is much better. I wanted to much to love this experience enough to change up my massage location every other visit, but no go. Spa is lovely lovely and well appointed. Wish i had my swimsuit. Best facial ever and i have them for 20 yrs. Terri is amazing - her technique, her touch, her knowledge and her approach were sheer perfection. My skin looks amazing and i feel like a new woman!!!! I'll definitely book again when i come back at Christmas. Nails were fabulous too. Nerissa is a gem and offered to add on a pedi during her break after she finished my daughters nails. I had the most mediocre massage at this spa. And it was completely not as advertised. When I checked in I waited 10 minutes for the sole attendant to complete her stressed out phone cell, only then to have her ask me to come out to pay immediately after my massage, even though the spa closed two hours later, because she planned to leave her shift. They provide no spa shoes, which is gross, and the pool and sauna and hot tub and steam room all did not have heat tonight. The ceilings are peeling. It just seemed significantly less luxurious or relaxing than its prices justify. read more

Spas are my haven of choice and Argentta is the DC gem I have been looking for. I have struggled to find a day spa with the amount of high quality amenities that Argentta makes available. I checked in with attentive attendants who continued to look after me throughout the afternoon. I began my day in the gym which is huge for a hotel. Several choices of up to date cardio machines, beautiful weight equipment, and even a TRX set up. On my way out I took bottled water and an apple. Next I headed to the pool and jacuzzi. Clean with perfect water temps, these indoor pools are fun and luxurious. There is also a sauna and a steam room. I fell in love with the shower heads (need to get the brand and do a home install ASAP) and the robes. There is an actual relaxation lounge with tea and water. Not a bad place to wait for your masseuse or esthetician or have a glass of champagne after a treatment. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and have a sugar scrub and seaweed wrap. It felt amazing and I left feeling ultra soft. I also opted for a facial and my knowledgeable esthetician Lumilda performed wonders on my problematic and acne prone skin. I will definitely be seeing her and this oasis in the city again. It surpasses any spa I have been to in the area thus far. read more

Washington, DC has very few spas with great amenities - co-ed saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzi, and pool - however Argentta Spa at the Watergate boasts all of these. These features make it a great pick for a couples spa day, since you won't be separated from your significant other while enjoying the amenities. I went for a prenatal massage, which was wonderful. However, for a prenatal massage at the Argentta you lay on your side, while at other spas they have a large pregnancy pillow with a hole for the belly cut out so that you are able to lay on your front, the same way you would for a traditional massage. I consider this one negative. The relaxation room was small and had a lot of staff traffic in it going both ways, which was also a bit problematic for relaxation. Lastly, the water temperature in both of the showers in the women's changing room would not get above a tepid temperature - much too cold for an enjoyable shower - which is certainly an issue both before and after a massage. Overall Argentta is a worthwhile spot for a spa day, they just have a few kinks to work out to make it a five-star experience. read more

My girlfriend gave me a spa voucher to visit Argentta at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC. Although my appointment was for 3 p.m., I was encouraged by the Argentta employee (who called to give me a reminder) to arrive at 2 so that I could relax and enjoy the total spa experience. I arrived at 2:40 p.m. and was told that my appointment was not 3, but 2 and as such my gift certificate was rescinded with no possibility for rescheduling. This was the most abrupt encounter that I've ever had with a service provider. There was no deference given to me as a customer, no weight or any consideration given to me regarding my previous conversation with the employee; no effort exerted to even encourage me to reschedule at my own expense. My first time spa experience at the Argentta spa at the Watergate hotel was a truly first class experience. I am a 49 year old male with not so young skin but Ludmila performed a miracle on my face! I signed up for the "Top Secrer Facial" for men and the treatment was relaxing and soothing with fantastic results. I was gifted a travelzoo for a massage. I called to make an appointment for my birthday (Dec 24) over a month ago and informed them of the voucher. I was told that it was fine and I would be called within the next 24 hours if there were any issues. I called back a few weeks later just to double check that I was all set and to check the time of my massage. I was told that I'm no longer able to use the gift because it's a holiday. I explained that I'd actually be celebrating my birthday, not Christmas. I asked to be moved to the Sunday before my birthday and was told that that is a holiday weekend (even though it's multiple days before Christmas). I explained that we planned our entire two night stay at the Watergate around this spa appointment, and that I'm Jewish - so really not trying to use this as some kind of Christmas celebration. We have loved our time at the Watergate in the past and I was excited to add the massage this time as an extra treat for my birthday. To be told one thing and then weeks later have it changed with zero notice to me is so so frustrating. Thank goodness I called - would have hated to have gone to the spa on my birthday only to have been told that I could no longer use my gift. read more

I made an account just to write this review. I was told there was no manager at the spa so I am going to write my review here. I LOVE spas and usually always have great experiences no matter where I am. However, my experience here was less than thrilling. The only reason why I am giving it a 3 is because the first lady at the front desk as well as the lady who gave my facial were very nice. I purchased a Travelzoo voucher so I don't know if maybe this is why the lady on day two did not welcome me at first. I came in on a Monday. The lady cancelled my treatment and I was not notified until I was already at the spa. The lady at the front desk was apologetic. The voucher was only Monday-Thursday but because of the short notice cancellation she offered to reschedule me for any day of the week. I came in on Sunday. The second lady at the front desk on Sunday was incredibly rude and told me I could not come in on a Sunday with the voucher. I explained the situation to her and she told me there were no notes or messages explaining that. She finally let me in. (I don't know if the fact that I had purchased a voucher made her less welcoming). My friend had a day pass. She would not allow my friend to have a robe because apparently only guests who purchased services are allowed a robe. Fine. I could understand if there were a lot of guests and a shortage of robes but I think there were maybe three other people there. About twenty minutes into it she came to offer water and her attitude had completely changed. She was extremely nice and apologized for the miscommunication. I appreciated that but am still perplexed why she was so rude in the beginning. Besides that the spa is pretty and my facial was very good but I think I'll be going to other spas in the area from now on. read more
