Arches Restaurant was a wonderful surprise when we stopped for lunch in Adare. It's located in the center of town, just steps from the old church, shops and those historic thatched houses. We parked across the street and after checking a few other options stepped inside. The menu was diverse (photos) with many options. The family who owns and runs Arches are sooo sweet and friendly. We started with a pot of tea and ordered the Ham and Cheese sandwiches (€4.00), along with light Boiled Egg Salad (€6.00). It's actually a salad (photo), with a hard boiled egg on top and some mayonnaise dressing. It was tasty and hit the spot. Other traditional items on the menu are Smoked Mackerel for €6.00, Pawn Salad for €9.00, or Salmon Salad for €15.00 which looked good, that others were enjoying. We sat in the front dinning area which sits about twenty, but there is tons of space in the back for three times a many patrons. Checkout those WC facility signs. LOL The family who runs Arches are the real stars here. Three generations, all helping out. Nice. Enjoy!

10 oz Sirloin with garlic sauce, onion rings and fries (chips).

This was a cute restaurant with great service. The owner took care of us personally. The food was very good and the presentation was great. Going back again before we leave on Wednesday.

Ok, the meal I just finished at the Arches restaurant in Adare was the best meal I've eaten at a restaurant in over a decade. Period. I ordered the egg mayonnaise and fruit salad, the medallions of beef (rare) with brown mustard sauce, and cheesecake for dessert. The salad was a light, amazingly perfect blend of flavors. The main course was - wow! I had almost given up on anybody cooking rare beef correctly, until now. The chef had a beautiful brown finish on the beef, and the inside was a beautiful red. The flavor of the beef was beyond words, and the carrots and broccoli we're cooked perfectly. Dessert lived up to the rest of the meal. All in all, the best dining experience I've had in a very long time. Thank you so much.

Prawn salad at The Arches! Best salad ever.

Very good alternative to pub grub. Service was excellent and food good. Less expensive than the other higher end restaurants.

The soup was tasty, as were the pork loin and the battered, fried hoki (fish).

Is this review slightly biased? Did I see the world though jetlagged eyes? Yes absolutely, but who the hell cares; Bill hooked me up with my first pint after one long journey from NYC and I will be forever grateful for it. Walking in, we found a well sized pub with a nice selection of beers on tap. The usual selection of Smithwick's, Harp, Bulmer's cider were to be found, and I couldn't have been happier to see them waiting for me. The first thing that really struck me however was the music. How could we have known that Bill Chawkes was voted the number one country bar in Ireland? So while we were sipping on our pints Shania Twain and Toby Keith sang about pickup trucks and broken hearts.......just what we were looking for in Ireland, American rednecks haha. Again though we were exhausted and thrilled to be anywhere that had a cold pint and some food. We made our way to the nicely sized backyard and found a nice table in the shade. After a few minutes (and a few rounds) we ordered up a bite to eat; I had the burger (Irish beef is awesome), and my date had the chicken curry. As soon as the curry came out I knew I had made a terrible mistake, as it smelled like heaven (tasted like it too) but alas I had to settle for "curry fries" which were almost as good. Like I said maybe it was the jetlag, or the thrill of finally making it to our destination (or both), but this was one of the nicest meals I had on the whole trip. If you are in Adare, Bill Chawkes is absolutely worth checking out; good food, great location, and a lively crowd in the evening - you can't go wrong.

It was still early so there was just a large party in the yard and a few locals sitting around the bar. Since it was such a pleasant day, we opted to sit out back to enjoy our first official Irish pints and lunch. The yard's walls are covered in old timey cigarette and alcohol ads with large statues of men and their dogs. The only thing that was slightly off putting was the american country music pouring out of the speakers. Once I got over the initial shock of realizing that Shania Twain, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks were here to stay, I settled in. I just took it as a sign that Ireland was welcoming us with an easy transition. The bar tender was a friendly gentleman that helped us pick brews and took our orders after a few drinks. Even though we were outside, he was attentive and timely with service. As we enjoyed the afternoon, we got to meet another American couple that had been visiting Ireland. It was nice to get their opinions of what they've done and where we might look into going. Although, when the food arrived, we couldn't help but ignore them while we dug in. I had made a choice to eat local cuisine while in Ireland so I had chosen the chicken curry (diced chicken in a thick curry sauce served with rice). It was just delightful. My date had ordered the cheeseburger and french fries which was also quite good. The beef is certainly a different flavor over in Ireland and the french fries were great (especially dipped in the curry). The environment is great, food is fantastic and service is well done. What more could a person look for in a local pub. I would be happy to return to this little quaint town and, of course, I'd make sure to have my first pint here.

I had eaten plenty of pub food in my one-week trip in Ireland and was looking for something more sophisticated, and 1826 Adare certainly delivered. I enjoyed the flavors and there was an interesting dried fruit of some sort that made this dish fun. I was hoping to have a little more greenery/salad/lettuce in the dish mainly because that's what I was expecting and in the mood for when I ordered the salad, but the flavors were overall quite good Braised beef special - This was delicious. Very tender, well seasoned, and accompanied by some delicious sauces. I really enjoyed this dish. House fish pie - This was also quite delicious with a crispy bread crumb topping and baked with generous amounts of fresh fish. This was a really enjoyable dish as well. Overall really enjoyed dinner here. Reservations are recommended. I made a last minute weekday reservation and was able to get a slot later in the night. Ambiance was pleasant.

We made a same day reservation here because of how busy this area can get. The hostess was extremely gracious and accommodating. We ordered mussels in cream broth which was done well. The crab cake that we ordered was very tasty but filled mostly with potatoes. My husband ordered a salad that smoked salmon stuffed with crab meat. It is large enough to be a lunch on its own. Finally we ordered a baguette with caramelized onions and Brie. That was delicious but quite heavy. Overall we enjoyed this restaurant. The proprietor is also the hostess. She is absolutely wonderful and so welcoming. The food was good but also quite heavy. I was hoping we would get a bit more nuanced tastings based on the pictures on its website and description of the menu.

You need reservations here, especially in tourist season and you have to call. They weren't ready for us so the showed us into the parlour where we sat in comfy couches and had drinks in front of the not lit fireplace. It should have been lit, it was a very cold day. At lunch, the menu is varied with fish being the common theme. It's expensive here but then again we had three bottles of wine & split the bill. The salads were great. I had a salmon and crab salad. Yum. The service is not great, again left to your own devices a lot. That's the common theme in Ireland something I get frustrated with when I'm home. But, go, don't miss. It's a great little spot and a sight to see.
