If you are looking for some great food and great craic on a Tuesday evening, this is the place! The live Irish music band that plays every other Tuesday is outstanding. The place seems to be always full and alive with music, laughter and even dancing. When last I was there, 9 Sep, 2025, in the crowd there was even one river dancer from Texas as well as an award winning Irish river dancer dancing to the music. Honestly the menu was pretty good but the service is what made this restaurant work best for me. We had a party of 15 and they handled us so well. Food came out good and was served to the right people and our waiter was so respectful and attentive. When I said we needed quite a bit of ketchup for some of us who got chips and burgers - he set a box right next to us to be able to help ourselves. I got the burger and chips and it was delicious. We were told that you need to go to this bar, so we did. We did not make any reservations, and it was a full restaurant when we arrived. The host noted that it would be a while to get any place to sit and I mentioned this was our only night in the area but that we appreciated their time. He stopped me and said, hold on, let me see what I can do. The team literally pulled up some stools to a whiskey barrel and made us a spot! They even got a deck of cards for us to use and we spent the night drinking and reviling with the crowd. It was wonderful. We felt very welcomed, and they were super nice the whole evening. Due to some changes, we were able to come back the next night and got in quickly. We had seen a chocolate cake the night before and decided on drinks and dessert! We stopped in here on the Saturday before Mother's day (Irish) and the town was humming. After spending three days working our way from County Mayo to County Galway and having fantastic soup at every stop , I was really disappointed with Aunty Lena's. We tried the soup of the day (vegetable) and the seafood chowder. Both were bland - not sure if it was the stock used or lack of seasoning but disappointing either way. Absolutely the strangest and worst service experience I've ever encountered. After being seated and waiting for 20 minutes. We had to go ask for assistance. We ordered appetizers and asked to order drinks. When the waiter just walked away and never returned. They brought our appetizers and left fast. We never received any water or were ever acknowledged. We had to get up and tell them we were leaving. Or we could have just walked out without paying. I would understand if they were really busy. However, this was not the case. Adare is a lovely small town. The roofs are straw thatched, the building are quaint and the bars are sparse. Of the 4ish bars along the main stretch, Aunty Lena's will jump at you from the start. It is painted a gaudy gold color (that I love) with flowers lining the windows and a portrait of an elderly woman on the side of the building. We took a tour of the town on a Friday and quickly learned there were at least two wedding parties taking to the local bars. Sadly they had packed into Aunty's so we passed it by and took our first Irish pints in a bar down the street. Later that evening, when the parties had moved to different locations, we were able to stop in. It is a rather large with a full bar and dining area. The bartenders were very friendly and service was quick. We did not have any meals here but the french fries were very good. The bar always had seats available and the locals and visitors were pleasant to talk to. They do have WiFi and if i recall correctly it is just the bar name all lowercase. The ambiance was quiet and dim with great old world decor and feel. Of course, I'm always a sucker for copper bar counters! After a long day of driving to places like Cork or Galway, it was nice to stop in for a few pints before heading back home for a quick night's sleep. It's weird enough to drive on the wrong side of the road and we were certainly not dumb enough to drink and drive that way! read more

This yellow building at the roundabout in Adare has been around a long long time. I remember coming in here with my parents as a small child. First and foremost it's a pub, a typical Irish one that also serves food. The ambiance is casual with lots of locals mixed with tourist clientele. It's a hub of activity, always busy with fireplaces coziness and friendly banter. I can't even imagine what it's like in here in the height of summer. A great place to meet friends or come for lunch. Today we just met for afternoon drinks which went on way too long. It's one of those places that you drop into and forget to leave!! The staff are friendly and helpful but not in your face. My husband thought this was the most beautiful bar he had ever been in. It has a fireplace and a warm atmosphere. It was quiet enough for conversation. There was a nice sized crowd... Not too small that it was quiet and awkward but not so many people it felt crowded or too loud. The staff was very friendly. My husband said his fish and chips were the best he'd ever had. I had the Bourbon Steak sandwich. My food was really good and I liked that it was a little unusual. My husband had a glass of whiskey called Middleton which is apparently unavailable in the States so that was a treat. For dessert, I had the cream filled petrifoles and he got the toffee pudding. Mine was good but his was way better. This was a great place to get a big dinner and drinks after a long day of sightseeing on a windy and chilly day. read more

Sitting in the heart of town, Aunty Lena's is the first pub most people set eyes on when they visit Adare. You have to give it to the Irish; in a town with only one intersection they have a surprising number of places to grab a drink (good on you guys). Walking in you get the sense that this place has seen its fair share of faces, and that this is where the sports loving locals come on a nightly basis. I say sports loving, as they had quite a few TVs hanging on the walls and some sporting event or another is always on (be it a horse race, football, or my new favorite thing in the world - hurling). This would have absolutely where we would have had our first pint in the countryside (like I said it's got the prime location in town), but it was hosting a wedding party - pretty sure the last thing the happy couple wanted hear was a couple of soon to be drunk Americans commenting on how quaint their village was. We did end up here that night, after putting a few back at Bill Chawkes down the (one and only) road. Finding a stool at the bar, we quickly ordered up a couple of pints and got to people watching. This place was the real deal, old guys talking about sports, young guys goofing around; the crowed was really lively and fun to be a part of. The food looked kind of hit or miss, and we had just eaten at Bills (good, albeit lucky choice). We did split an order of chips, which were good; but then again, you would be hard pressed to find a place that messes chips up. Honestly this place is much more a bar than it is a restaurant, if you are looking for a quiet place for dinner this is not it. All in all, this is a good place to see how the locals in Adare do it after a long day; the mood is fun and alive. I would recommend this place for a pint, but find someplace else for food (Pat Collins down the road has great fish and chips). read more

Well I feel like it can't get much better than this, first pint of Guinness since arriving here in Ireland was here. So I'm already pleased beyond all means. I have been anticipating bangers and mash for a while and I was definitely not let down. The bangers were very flavorful, almost crispy on the outside and juicy on the outside. The mash and mashed carrots lay in a sea of the perfect gravy. It's slightly sweet and salty and very flavorful. The service was excellent and we got our drinks and food within like 15 mins. The atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for your Irish restaurant experience. This place is also not touristy at all, seems like we were the only Americans in the place. read more

We were at Lena's on 9/25/15. The reason for only two stars is because of the terrible entertainment. Our waitress was great and the food was ok. The music was supposed to start at 9:30 but never started until 10:00. At that time the musicians played one song which sounded like they were warming up and then chatted amongst themselves never once acknowledging the people in the pub. They then played another song with one person singing very softly (almost to himself) and then proceeded to talk to each other. We left at 10:45 as did several other people.
