Was recommended this place by bopeep_valaisblacknose on Instagram, who said they had great food and great Guinness. She was absolutely right. A phenomenal pint and the most INSANELY delicious fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. Service was great too. If you are anywhere even remotely close to this joint it is well worth a visit.

Close up Irish stew. Far is bacon and cabbage.

Good, not spectacular. I had Irish stew, the broth was savory and delicious. The meat tender, mashed potatoes in the bowl were good, nothing special. My friends cabbage and bacon looked bland. She was satisfied.

Huge portions. Delicious, tasty food! Great, friendly service. Open late which was great for us since we arrived late to Adare. I recommend this place and would definatly return.

I think this pub is a great area for tourists. Recently moved here and this was the very first restaurant I went to in Adare. One of my favorites in adare. Food is not pricey, and it tastes excellent. The employees make you feel so welcome and like an old friend of yours. They also have a tv so I'd recommend to sports lovers who want to eat while watching a game. I would recommend 10/10 to everyone even the little ones.

My mom and I are visiting from California and had read over and over again that we must stop into this place for a beer. We came in on a Monday afternoon. It was great to see locals coming in and hanging out. I love the history of this spot! Because of its history you should definitely stop in. However, we both got salads (desperately wanted some healthy food after traveling so long) and I wish I had just gotten a burger. You won't feel "healthy" with a salad from here. They had typical bar food items on the menu so maybe just come here for drinks.

I'm on my last day in Ireland and have had great experiences so far. However the service I got at Pat Collins Bar has been beyond awful! I started with the Fried Brie - and it was rather good. I ordered the chicken panini ... And the server dropped it off and has yet to be back. She never brought my water. She hasn't been back to check on me. I paid my bill at the bar. And never got my water!! To be frank - I wish I had gone somewhere else, and where else.

Food was great, and atmosphere was very nice. Mostly locals in the restaurant which is always a great sign.

The Irish stew was amazing! My husband has their fried prawns and he loved it too. Overall it was a very good pub.

The Irish stew was amazing and it was such a big serving, Boiled ham and cabbage made the way it's supposed to be.

Is this review slightly biased? Did I see the world though jetlagged eyes? Yes absolutely, but who the hell cares; Bill hooked me up with my first pint after one long journey from NYC and I will be forever grateful for it. Walking in, we found a well sized pub with a nice selection of beers on tap. The usual selection of Smithwick's, Harp, Bulmer's cider were to be found, and I couldn't have been happier to see them waiting for me. The first thing that really struck me however was the music. How could we have known that Bill Chawkes was voted the number one country bar in Ireland? So while we were sipping on our pints Shania Twain and Toby Keith sang about pickup trucks and broken hearts.......just what we were looking for in Ireland, American rednecks haha. Again though we were exhausted and thrilled to be anywhere that had a cold pint and some food. We made our way to the nicely sized backyard and found a nice table in the shade. After a few minutes (and a few rounds) we ordered up a bite to eat; I had the burger (Irish beef is awesome), and my date had the chicken curry. As soon as the curry came out I knew I had made a terrible mistake, as it smelled like heaven (tasted like it too) but alas I had to settle for "curry fries" which were almost as good. Like I said maybe it was the jetlag, or the thrill of finally making it to our destination (or both), but this was one of the nicest meals I had on the whole trip. If you are in Adare, Bill Chawkes is absolutely worth checking out; good food, great location, and a lively crowd in the evening - you can't go wrong.

It was still early so there was just a large party in the yard and a few locals sitting around the bar. Since it was such a pleasant day, we opted to sit out back to enjoy our first official Irish pints and lunch. The yard's walls are covered in old timey cigarette and alcohol ads with large statues of men and their dogs. The only thing that was slightly off putting was the american country music pouring out of the speakers. Once I got over the initial shock of realizing that Shania Twain, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks were here to stay, I settled in. I just took it as a sign that Ireland was welcoming us with an easy transition. The bar tender was a friendly gentleman that helped us pick brews and took our orders after a few drinks. Even though we were outside, he was attentive and timely with service. As we enjoyed the afternoon, we got to meet another American couple that had been visiting Ireland. It was nice to get their opinions of what they've done and where we might look into going. Although, when the food arrived, we couldn't help but ignore them while we dug in. I had made a choice to eat local cuisine while in Ireland so I had chosen the chicken curry (diced chicken in a thick curry sauce served with rice). It was just delightful. My date had ordered the cheeseburger and french fries which was also quite good. The beef is certainly a different flavor over in Ireland and the french fries were great (especially dipped in the curry). The environment is great, food is fantastic and service is well done. What more could a person look for in a local pub. I would be happy to return to this little quaint town and, of course, I'd make sure to have my first pint here.

We made a same day reservation here because of how busy this area can get. The hostess was extremely gracious and accommodating. We ordered mussels in cream broth which was done well. The crab cake that we ordered was very tasty but filled mostly with potatoes. My husband ordered a salad that smoked salmon stuffed with crab meat. It is large enough to be a lunch on its own. Finally we ordered a baguette with caramelized onions and Brie. That was delicious but quite heavy. Overall we enjoyed this restaurant. The proprietor is also the hostess. She is absolutely wonderful and so welcoming. The food was good but also quite heavy. I was hoping we would get a bit more nuanced tastings based on the pictures on its website and description of the menu.

You need reservations here, especially in tourist season and you have to call. They weren't ready for us so the showed us into the parlour where we sat in comfy couches and had drinks in front of the not lit fireplace. It should have been lit, it was a very cold day. At lunch, the menu is varied with fish being the common theme. It's expensive here but then again we had three bottles of wine & split the bill. The salads were great. I had a salmon and crab salad. Yum. The service is not great, again left to your own devices a lot. That's the common theme in Ireland something I get frustrated with when I'm home. But, go, don't miss. It's a great little spot and a sight to see.
