This restaurant is on the main road of Adare, a beautiful town in the county of Limerick in Ireland. The streets are filled with charming little shops and stores. We made a same day reservation here because of how busy this area can get. The hostess was extremely gracious and accommodating. We ordered mussels in cream broth which was done well. The crab cake that we ordered was very tasty but filled mostly with potatoes. My husband ordered a salad that smoked salmon stuffed with crab meat. It is large enough to be a lunch on its own. Finally we ordered a baguette with caramelized onions and Brie. That was delicious but quite heavy. Overall we enjoyed this restaurant. The proprietor is also the hostess. She is absolutely wonderful and so welcoming. The food was good but also quite heavy. I was hoping we would get a bit more nuanced tastings based on the pictures on its website and description of the menu. read more

Lunch with my sisters at The Wild Geese was just great and again per usual we stayed way too long. This restaurant again has been around for years, it's small quaint (Thatched Cottage) and very cozy. You need reservations here, especially in tourist season and you have to call. They weren't ready for us so the showed us into the parlour where we sat in comfy couches and had drinks in front of the not lit fireplace. It should have been lit, it was a very cold day. At lunch, the menu is varied with fish being the common theme. It's expensive here but then again we had three bottles of wine & split the bill. The salads were great. I had a salmon and crab salad. Yum. The service is not great, again left to your own devices a lot. That's the common theme in Ireland something I get frustrated with when I'm home. But, go, don't miss. Now you're talking. This is a beautiful little place in a beautiful country. Personally I had had enough "pub" food probably for the rest of my life. My daughter picked this place solely by the name. It was excellent. I had the open roast chicken salad sandwich. It was fresh chicken breast with scallions and mayo on a dark bread. It was delicious. All four of the dishes were prepared well and enjoyed. The service was very good. My wife couldn't find an iced tea in Ireland until we got there. The woman said it's not rocket science I'll be happy to make some. The desserts were great also. I'm not sure if they take reservations but it might be a good idea if they do. read more

Fantastic dinner! With delicious food, great wine/beer menu, cozy atmosphere, and friendly service it is easy to see why Wild Geese is Michelin rated. We went in for dinner on our last night in Adere. We didn't have a reservation but the staff was able to get us in. First they walk you into the parlor that doubles as the bar. It's a cozy room with a fire place. So darling. You can either choose from the menu or you can choose the "early bird special" which includes an appetizer or dessert and an entree. It was one of the most delicious meals we've ever had ( and we would self describe as foodies and winos). We both choose the early bird special which was a steal at €30 per person. Our total bill was under €75 and it included drinks. Amazing price when compared to €50 lunches we had in Dublin. The chef started by sending a complimentary appetizer; Baked Bluebell Falls Goats Cheese in a Curry Crust served with a Balsamic Dressing. It was so delicious! The goat cheese was absolutely out of this world. It was perfectly sweet/ tart and so incredibly soft. We then had the butternut squash soup. Delicious! Smooth, warm, and filling. Everything's that you want and expect from a butternut squash soup. For our entrees my husband ordered Roast Breast of Cornfed Chicken stuffed with Goats Cheese wrapped in Parma Ham, Mustard Seed and I ordered the Baked Fillet of Salmon with Panseared Scallops, Deepfried Aubergine on Chorizo and Scallion Sauce. So much to say about these dishes but I'll give you the gist of the meals. The chicken was perfectly moist while the Parma ham was crisp. The goat cheese inside it was warm and gooey and sweet. A meal with many textures and with flavors imbedding themselves from one to the next. My dish, the salmon, was fantastic. I usually don't like the crispy skin but I really enjoyed it on this dish. Once again the multiple textures in the dish lend themselves for a fantastic experience. That sauce... Wow! It was fresh and smooth. I also enjoy the broccoli it was the right amount of crunchy and steamed. I'd like to say that Ireland has amazing food. Everything at Wild Geese was locally sourced and traceable. Have you ever gone to a restaurant where it was open but the front door was locked and you had to ring a door bell to be let in? Or how about one where you sit in a quaint sitting room and have a cocktail while perusing the menu? Or maybe one where you order your meal in the same sitting room before being brought to your table? No? Well, I encourage you to venture to the wild geese. To be honest, at the time we were thoroughly confused. Myself and three friends decided to eat here on our last night in Adare. We approached the restaurant, saw it was locked and immediately started blaming each other for not paying more attention to the restaurants hours. Then one of us just pressed the doorbell and voila! We were welcomed inside. The owner encouraged us to take a seat in a quaint parlor with a fully stocked bar while they prepared our table and handed us some menus. She came back about ten minutes later asking us to order our appetizers and main courses (we all did the 3 course meal). About ten minutes later we were escorted upstairs to a dining room where our table was located. Everything from the service to the meal was spectacular. We left having an amazing time and an epic meal. read more

This restaurant definitely had a very home-y atmosphere. When you first come in, you can order a drink in this little living room with a fireplace before you sit down to eat. There is an entirely separate vegetarian menu which is great. I had the tomato soup which was good, but I prefer mine a bit more creamy and salty. I also got the saffron flavored risotto with mushrooms, but it just wasn't that great. I liked the atmosphere and the service, but the food just wasn't that great. read more

This is an excellent place for a light/early supper. The cottage atmosphere is perfect and waiting downstairs on the settees and chairs is very nice. You can enjoy a glass of wine while you wait as well. Upstairs, the dining room can be a bit cramped but it is also cozy and nicely-appointed. The menus are inspired and the ingredients are fresh and high-quality. Seafood is an excellent choice here and any of their fish/shellfish dishes are a good choice. We went here with a party of 3 and we each tried a little of each other's meal. I would recommend a reservation as it can get pretty busy around meal times. This was overall an extremely nice experience on one of our last nights in Ireland and I would highly recommend dining here at least once. I would like to come back and try brunch here. read more

Extremely homey and comfortable with incredible seasonal fare. The crab stuffed smoked salmon starter hit the spot with lots of dill and cucumbers. The monk fish on a leek potato pancake with sides of green beans, sweet potatoes, and deep fried mashed potatoes....all terrific. To finish, homemade ice creams - passion fruit was my favorite, but the lemon tart was also very tasty. You can even forget your hotel room key here and they are nice enough to return to your hotel. read more

The food was delicious, great house wine, and the main courses were very good. It was a little too fancy for us, and overpriced. There was only one other couple in the upstairs dining with us and it was very quiet and awkward. If you are looking for a romantic night out, this is perfect, but if you like the pub atmosphere, I would skip it. read more

Wow, what an experience. And, when we travel, that is what we want. More than just dinner. We want an experience. It is in a super cute thatched cottage (that was my wife's requirement for a dinner place). It was recommended to us by a local shop owner - he said husband is back house and wife is front house. I don't know if this is the usual thing but this is the way it was for us: First, we had to ring the doorbell. Not a typical restaurant front door. We were greeted by the wife and got to sit in the drawing room with a roaring peat fire. Chatted with another couple who were up from Cork. Then, after a few drinks, we were shown to our table. Very charming cottage with two rooms and 8 tables (a few more upstairs). Menu was very fashionable and food was top notch. We had a great chat with the wife and the Americans next to us who were having just as great a time (and photographing all their meals - and ours, too). A note - the service was very slow and the whole thing took us a while. We didn't mind this as we were getting our money's worth. But, we did ask the wife about this at the end. She explained that she had only two tables booked for the evening and all the tables ended up filling up. As this was February and off season (and a Tuesday night) she had not scheduled any additional staff. So, she ended up doing a great job covering all of the tables but could only do so much at one time. This did not detract from our experience at all and we appreciated the tough situation. PS - my wife is a vegetarian and had plenty of options. We brought two children 11 and 9 who were allowed to split a meal and had a wonderful time as well. read more
