I read about this place in the Rick Steves' guidebook, and decided to give it a try after reading some favorable ratings by other Yelpers. The menu is pretty extensive from some pretty nice salads, a soup of the day, soda bread, pizza, some pastas, chicken, bruschetta, etc. We shared the Super Food salad which was wonderful with butternut squash, beets, pomegranate, tomato, and pine nuts. The pizza is just so so, but flavorful and hit the spot. They have some nice looking desserts as well. They have a pretty extensive wine selection. The beer selection is limited to bottles and cans, but they have Guinness, Bulmers, Tiger (Asia's Heineken, and a selection of Ireland's craft brewery O'Hara's. The service was good, and the view of the river outside the window is very nice. If back in Ennis, I would return here. read more

Quite possibly one of the best hostels I have even been in, and one of the nicest places to eat in Ennis. They recently remodeled the entire place and it is simply amazing. The café has a very good menu with something for everyone. Prices are not bad at all, and they also have high chairs so if you have a small child, like I do, you are in luck. During the summer you can't beat sitting outside quite literally right next to the river having a nice lunch with a few pints. read more

But we got charged 2e pp for bringing our own birthday cake this is a disgrace and having looked and asked around it's the only place in Ennis and Clare that charge you for bringing ur own birthday cake this should be addressed by management 18e on to a 192e bill that's very poor. This was lunch time too. Won't be back for birthday celebrations again. read more

Amazing place! Connor seated us even though we were a bit late. So glad we couldn't get into two we tried before, because they could not have been better than the Rowan Tree. Pasta was truly delicious. One was slightly spicy (just a bit) with sirloin steak. The other was doing and cheese in large tortellini switch a generous amount of shaved Parmesan on top. Desert was a delicious banoffee pie with cafe con leche. Perfect. You are surrounded by beautiful original paintings, and there is lots of space between tables. I love this place, and if I'm in Ennis again, I'll eat here every night. Thank you Conor!!! read more

We visited the Rowan Tree after hearing great reviews from friends and others, however we will not be going back. First of all, there is very limited parking on site. As we had a wheelchair in our party, we would have liked to be able to park on location and not have to cross a very busy road. We had two small children with us and we wanted to order just a plain cheese toastie (grilled cheese) and was told they 'didn't do it' and they couldn't be made up. We ended up ordering the kids cheese pizza which fed the two children but would be very large for one child. The rest of the party ordered a BLT and the chicken wings. Both the BLT and the Chicken wings were tasteless. The wings were very tough and almost sinew-y. BLT presentation was messy, lettuce had a massive stalk in the middle which was not appetising at all. When I went to the counter to pay, the man was quite abrupt and told me if I wanted the bill he'd drop it down to the table. I said I want to pay now and was told he was busy (he was making coffees) I said I'd wait. When he actually dealt with me, I found him to be rude and not too helpful. Our lunch was vastly over priced considering the taste. The total for the sandwich, wings and a childs pizza was 25.50, far more expensive than other Ennis cafés. However, the highlight of our lunch was the waitress Dara, she was attentive, friendly and great with the children. read more

Good, casual restaurant near the center of the town. The space is bright and airy and bustling, located in a nice spot near the river. I ordered a very satisfying lasagne and chips - everything I saw looked very good. The staff were uniformly good & very friendly and everything seemed very efficient and clean. Really the most excellent experience of my travels. We were cold and wet after 45 minutes of walking around in the rain and being turned away by at least 4 other places that had gotten good reviews from trip advisor. "Conor" was so accommodating even though we had arrived a good half hour after the cutoff for food service. He went the extra mile and arranged for the chef to prepare an extraordinary meal even though the kitchen was shut down on a Sunday night at 9:30. This is not so special in the States, but in Ireland, it is unheard of as most restaurants plan to close the kitchen completely by 9, even though they may stay open until 10 or 11 to serve drinks. If you are planning a trip to Ireland, please keep this in mind, or you will be hungry and frustrated. Our first trip was while on holiday two years ago from USA. We enjoyed our food so much we ensured a return visit while on holiday again. Rowen tree has a great gluten free menu and offers gf pasta. We ordered the wild mushroom with chicken penne. It was divine. Worth our repeat trip. My husband had the special: lamb with roasted peppers and potatoes. One of the best he has had. Prices are reasonable. Wine and beer selection is great. Came out with a Guinness and a lovely house red wine. If we come back to ennis for holiday we will surely return. read more

I have eaten at the Rowan Tree several times during my annual trips to Ennis. It has always been good. The setting and the service have always been excellent. Last week I brought a party of five for dinner. Everyone was blown away. They have really stepped it up. One of my guests from Brooklyn had the calzone and marveled that it was the best he had ever had. All the appetizers were excellent as was every entree. Great service, beautiful dinning room with attentive service at reasonable price. Great for formal and family dinning. Service was a bit slow, BUT there were only two lovely ladies on the floor, and it was very busy, so I won't hold it against them. Lovely little restaurant in Ennis. We were soaked and cold from the Cliffs of Moher and wanted something to eat. The food was delicious and would definitely recommend. The chowder was the best I had in Ireland. Pasta dishes also looked really good. read more
