Thanks for a great pint and pizza on our quick layover in Adare! Seán was a lovely host and his pizza was delicious!

Nice local pub. Food was excellent and we thought it was above and beyond that they listed on their menu a page with all ingredients for those with allergies. Friendly, a real treat to eat there. Wednesday night 9pm live music.

A lovely pub

The patrons and barkeep were friendly. The pub had nice, comfortable couches and seating available. I also was served the best tasting Guinness I've ever had in my entire life. It was absolutely lovely and the bathrooms were clean.

Nicely decorated and very welcoming. My husband and I are on our honeymoon and this was our first dinner in Ireland. The food was delicious. I had the homemade beef stew and my husband had a spicy chicken dish. There was a party going on there and it seemed to be a blast. I believe the owner came to chat with us for a bit which was very kind of him to do.

Happy customers at the bar during the day :)

The owner (Sean) is ragingly nice. They were welcoming and the bartender even gave up his seat for us to be able to have a seat. We ended up getting a corner and then they worked to get us a table asap. The drinks are good and great prices. I recommend Paddy's Irish whiskey. We didn't get food but the experience alone is worth it. Don't be that loud American. Be conscious of everyone around, please! Oh and I by way there's amazing live music in Friday's and Monday's. We repeatedly visited this place during our trip.

This pub is everything you hope for in an Irish pub. Sean and his son, Sean, we're great! Every time we went in, Sean the Elder always stopped by and visited with us! The food was fantastic. We ate there all but one of the 6 days we were in Adare. Fantastic! Can't wait to go back!!!

OK veggie soup. Much better elsewhere on several occasions. Service was lackadaisical and they weren't busy at all. Wouldn't rush to return.

Good food and a great price. Fun to go with friends. We don't drink, but even with that they were cool and inviting.

Is this review slightly biased? Did I see the world though jetlagged eyes? Yes absolutely, but who the hell cares; Bill hooked me up with my first pint after one long journey from NYC and I will be forever grateful for it. Walking in, we found a well sized pub with a nice selection of beers on tap. The usual selection of Smithwick's, Harp, Bulmer's cider were to be found, and I couldn't have been happier to see them waiting for me. The first thing that really struck me however was the music. How could we have known that Bill Chawkes was voted the number one country bar in Ireland? So while we were sipping on our pints Shania Twain and Toby Keith sang about pickup trucks and broken hearts.......just what we were looking for in Ireland, American rednecks haha. Again though we were exhausted and thrilled to be anywhere that had a cold pint and some food. We made our way to the nicely sized backyard and found a nice table in the shade. After a few minutes (and a few rounds) we ordered up a bite to eat; I had the burger (Irish beef is awesome), and my date had the chicken curry. As soon as the curry came out I knew I had made a terrible mistake, as it smelled like heaven (tasted like it too) but alas I had to settle for "curry fries" which were almost as good. Like I said maybe it was the jetlag, or the thrill of finally making it to our destination (or both), but this was one of the nicest meals I had on the whole trip. If you are in Adare, Bill Chawkes is absolutely worth checking out; good food, great location, and a lively crowd in the evening - you can't go wrong.

As the first Irish bar that I visited, Bill Chawkes Pub has a special place in my heart. Chawkes…read moreis a large pub with a great back yard space. It was still early so there was just a large party in the yard and a few locals sitting around the bar. Since it was such a pleasant day, we opted to sit out back to enjoy our first official Irish pints and lunch. The yard's walls are covered in old timey cigarette and alcohol ads with large statues of men and their dogs. The only thing that was slightly off putting was the american country music pouring out of the speakers. Once I got over the initial shock of realizing that Shania Twain, Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks were here to stay, I settled in. I just took it as a sign that Ireland was welcoming us with an easy transition. The bar tender was a friendly gentleman that helped us pick brews and took our orders after a few drinks. Even though we were outside, he was attentive and timely with service. As we enjoyed the afternoon, we got to meet another American couple that had been visiting Ireland. It was nice to get their opinions of what they've done and where we might look into going. Although, when the food arrived, we couldn't help but ignore them while we dug in. I had made a choice to eat local cuisine while in Ireland so I had chosen the chicken curry (diced chicken in a thick curry sauce served with rice). It was just delightful. My date had ordered the cheeseburger and french fries which was also quite good. The beef is certainly a different flavor over in Ireland and the french fries were great (especially dipped in the curry). The environment is great, food is fantastic and service is well done. What more could a person look for in a local pub. I would be happy to return to this little quaint town and, of course, I'd make sure to have my first pint here.

I had eaten plenty of pub food in my one-week trip in Ireland and was looking for something more sophisticated, and 1826 Adare certainly delivered. I ordered: Housemade soda bread with butter Shaved pear and young buck cheese salad- pretty good Braised beef special with a side of baby potatoes- very good, recommended House fish pie with a side of mashed potatoes- very good, recommended Housemade soda bread: - Very good, loved that it was seeded, nice way to start the meal Shaved pear and young buck cheese salad - This was a unique, interested, and well-plated dish. I enjoyed the flavors and there was an interesting dried fruit of some sort that made this dish fun. I was hoping to have a little more greenery/salad/lettuce in the dish mainly because that's what I was expecting and in the mood for when I ordered the salad, but the flavors were overall quite good Braised beef special - This was delicious. Very tender, well seasoned, and accompanied by some delicious sauces. I really enjoyed this dish. House fish pie - This was also quite delicious with a crispy bread crumb topping and baked with generous amounts of fresh fish. This was a really enjoyable dish as well. Overall really enjoyed dinner here. Reservations are recommended. I made a last minute weekday reservation and was able to get a slot later in the night. Ambiance was pleasant.

We made a same day reservation here because of how busy this area can get. The hostess was extremely gracious and accommodating. We ordered mussels in cream broth which was done well. The crab cake that we ordered was very tasty but filled mostly with potatoes. My husband ordered a salad that smoked salmon stuffed with crab meat. It is large enough to be a lunch on its own. Finally we ordered a baguette with caramelized onions and Brie. That was delicious but quite heavy. Overall we enjoyed this restaurant. The proprietor is also the hostess. She is absolutely wonderful and so welcoming. The food was good but also quite heavy. I was hoping we would get a bit more nuanced tastings based on the pictures on its website and description of the menu.

You need reservations here, especially in tourist season and you have to call. They weren't ready for us so the showed us into the parlour where we sat in comfy couches and had drinks in front of the not lit fireplace. It should have been lit, it was a very cold day. At lunch, the menu is varied with fish being the common theme. It's expensive here but then again we had three bottles of wine & split the bill. The salads were great. I had a salmon and crab salad. Yum. The service is not great, again left to your own devices a lot. That's the common theme in Ireland something I get frustrated with when I'm home. But, go, don't miss. It's a great little spot and a sight to see.
