Great pub. It was pretty lovely on a Sunday night. The space was charming, with a busy downstairs and a quieter upstairs that had a lot of seating. The staff were really nice. This place was 'suggested' as part of the bus tour I had booked to the Cliffs of Mordor. I was reticent to accept this place, as often times a 'recommended' place is merely a partnership with a certain location, due to their ability to accommodate for space, and ordering ahead always seems like a mistake to me. So initially, I passed and planned to eat elsewhere. But after doing my walkabout, I decided to come here after all, and managed to avoid sitting with the tour group and sat at the cool kids' table and chatted with the guide and the driver. We stopped in for lunch while we were in route to the Cliffs of Moher (tour), so it's not like we really had a choice (I assume the bus driver gets a kickback for taking us there). Great spot for food in Ennis! Decided to stop by on our way from Limerick to Galway and we're definitely happy that we did. The food was delicious and the inside was decorated well. The service was a bit slow for an early lunch, but I feel that was more the kitchen's fault than the servers themselves. The restaurant temp was pretty cold for a chilly day, but the hot soup ordered for lunch helped to warm us up. Definitely recommend if you're in the area! Great experience at this pub! We popped in for a quick drink around 5ish and ended up staying for dinner and live music because we were having so much fun. The food was delicious and hearty (we had the bacon and chicken carbonara and the seafood chowder with brown bread, respectively). We found this place after we rode into town from our hotel. The space is huge but we were in at an in between time and so there was hardly anyone else in. The staff was great and attentive to our needs as we moved about three times during our stop because we wanted to sit in different areas of the place while we were there. For my first vacation to Ireland, his became my brother and I go to place for dinner. We came here twice for dinner (we missed a third time as the kitchen closed about 15 minutes before we got there). I gave this place my rarely dispensed five stars. I don't give them out lightly nor easily as I want my five star rating to really reflect something truly outstanding. I just had to give it out to this restaurant. First of all the wait staff here is just so great, super friendly, kind and engaging. The lady we had during our second visit told us a lot about the area and the local people in between her other customers. I tried the two steaks, the sirloin and the filet during my two visits. Both were stunning in their wonderful taste and were cooked to perfection (I had them medium well). The filet was the best but either will do. I love the atmosphere and decor and it was just a nice, comfortable place to be. read more

The waiter seated us, and was very nice and helpful - knowledgeable about all the specials and the beers. Our food came fairly quickly and was hot and delicious. Great Late Night Bar in Ennis. Knoxs has for years been one of the busiest pubs in Ennis. Its not somewhere to go for a quiet pint of plain but if you are looking to meet people & have a bit of fun its right in the middle of it. Lots of other good pubs nearby also. Knox's is one of the more busier pubs in Ennis. I do call in on occasion to meet friends, but personally I don't go for the busy trendy types of places, which this place really is. The staff are nice and the drinks aren't too pricey. I say they have a great lunch every day and that the upstairs restaurant is also very good, but the pub itself is more of a trendy upscale venue rather than a quite local which I usually prefer. read more

We had the fish special, which was tasty. We also had the beef stew. It was disappointing. It wasn't well seasoned and the beef was very dry. The brown bread was great. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for. I enjoyed the old pub which has been around since 1860s. It has a lot of personality. They also had an IPA on draft, which wasn't the best, but it's the first I've been able to come across since arriving in Ireland. Service was standard. read more

Food was really good. I went here my first night in Ireland, and it was very quaint inside. It wasn't too loud for a pub and the service was quick and efficient. Our waiter was very nice, and the food was delicious. I had the fish and chips, and then my two friends had the soup of the day which was a sweet potato coconut curry and it was delicious. Knoxs is Ennis's only late bar, staying open till 1.30 most nights. During the day they do reasonably priced food, plenty of space during the day too. Unlike nighttime! When it is busy this place can be compared to a cattle mart, nowhere to stand without being stood on and unable to talk because of the generic pub music been blasted out! read more

I just left this place and have calmed down a bit. I'm so mad! I've never been treated so poorly in my life! I sat in the bar for 45 minutes and was completely ignored. I'd ordered a Guinness and asked for a menu. He brought me both and then that was it! No one ever bothered to check back. People who arrived after me on either side ordered food and were served. I'm sitting there with a menu in my hand and NO one bothers to take my order! I finished my Guinness and I sat there for another 10 minutes with a empty glass in front of me! Finally a guy came by and said do you need something? Yeah, pay for this beer and get the heck out of there! Terrible experience! DO NOT GO HERE. If you're local it's ok. Live music on the Thursday night was class. Place was jammed good atmoshere! Went for food the following night upstairs, staff where very helpful, starter had the bbq chicken wings and it was top class. Mains let it down big time though, had fillet steak. It was tough on the outside and barely cooked on the inside (asked for medium) was more like rubber! They did offer me something else which was nice but couldnt stomach it. 5 star for the pub 2 star for the restaurant upstairs 4 star overal is more than fair and thats only because of the pub. read more

Great pub in downtown Ennis! I was visiting Ennis from the States and looking for a bar to watch the NFL playoffs and this was the place. I actually visited their FB page earlier in the day and sent them a message asking if they'd turn a TV to the game for me. They responded immediately that they would (and they did!). The bar was packed and they played great music and the crowd was a lot of fun. Easily as many ladies as gents and most were dressed to impress. I would highly recommend the place if you're visiting Ennis! BTW - I also ate dinner there earlier in the day and the food was excellent. read more
