We stopped in the pub on September 10 for a late lunch. I'd read an article about great restaurants in Doolin. When we got to Doolin, there was only one place open. So, we went to Fitz's Pub. We walked in and there were many open tables but they all had dirty dishes on them. I asked if we could get a table for two and the young girl told me that it would be about ten minutes. So, we literally just stood around and tried to stay out of people's way. Then some time later another employee asked me what I needed, I told her a table for two. I asked if we could have the cute little table nestled in the corner. She told me that she was seating someone else there (someone who just walked in). So, I asked if we could have the table closest to the bar as there was only a small amount of dirty dishes on it. She allowed us to take that table and someone came and cleaned it. All in, we probably stood around awkwardly for 20 minutes. We sat down and the server seemed irritated. We had already ordered our drinks at the bar so we just ordered two seafood chowders. The chowders were not bad, not great. Mine had a mussel with a broken shell and a mussel with a clamped closed shell. Couldn't eat those. The pints were good. This spot is the true definition of why we should be permitted to utilize half stars. It's right in between and three and a four. We hit Fitz's Pub while on a tour to the Cliffs of Moher, and it's closely tied to the tour. Seems the place was reserved for us, which worked out well since the bus filled the restaurant. The bar is pretty expansive with lots of options. The lunch menu was a bit limited as we were on a time limit (1 hour) so we opted for the wings and the fish and chips. The wings came with a very flavorful sauce, not too spicy not too bland. The fish and chips were fine; the chips were very crispy but the fish as delicious. The food was good expedient and very good quality. The vichyssoise was delicious, it came with some nice brown bread. The croquettes were good, but nothing special, I'd skip next time. My husband had the fish and chips with us a bit different because they came with patatas bravas versus plain chips. We got here shortly after they opened for dinner and there was plenty of open seating, however they filled up very quickly. There are tables by the bar and then more in the dining room which is where we sat. The bar seats appear to be first come first serve whereas the dinning room you need to wait to be seated. The menu is slightly different from that on the website, but not by much. We ordered the seafood tower, the charcuterie and cheese sharing plates, and shared the potato and leek soup. All of the portions were large and we were provided with 4 thick slices of brown bread and Irish butter. The soup was very creamy and had an actual leek flavor that shined through. The bread was very tender and crumbly with a slightly sweet flavor. I won't go through the items on the tower and board as they are listed on the menu. I will say I was surprised that the muscles were not warm at all. I guess I can say there were 3 oysters, a bowl of muscles, maybe 10 crab claws, a large amount of smoked salmon, and the rest of itAlso, don't expect melted butter or cocktail sauce or anything of the short. Just lots of lemon - which was great! I'm not really a fan of raw oysters, but I will say these tasted very fresh and almost like they had fresh salt water with them; and the shallots with vinaigrette were so flavorful. Not sure if they have hot sauce, that would have been nice. I also never had mackerel before and that was by far my favorite. It was so smoky and firm but tender. For the charcuterie and cheese board, it comes with grilled bread and I would say the blue cheese was the best! It's not strong, very mild and I usually am not a big fan - but this was very smooth. Other than that the rest of it was pretty standard. The prices were very fair for the quality and portions. I also saw the food at the table next to us which looked great! We were here in May of 2025, the food was not great, and the service was awful, slow to be seated, and slow to be served. They split our family of 6 into multiple tables... Not served anywhere near the same time. Due to all the glowing reviews, we gave them some grace. My wife and I returned tonight (September 2nd) for a drink and a small plate. The drinks were nice, but the small oyster plates were not fresh. When we sent oysters back to the kitchen, we were asked why. Our response was "they were not good, very fishy". They did not apologize or offer to Comp any part of the bill. We will absolutely never go back or recommend the place. Poor service, terrible food on both occasions. I really was not that big of a fan of this place for a few different reasons. After our tour promoted "no lunch included," our guide told us on the bus down from the Cliffs that we would be stopping here for lunch and that they already had our tables waiting for us. We felt a bit bamboozled, especially considering we didn't want to eat here in the first place. Their 30-mile menu is an amazing concept, but makes your choices a bit limited. Maybe it's because we came with a tour group, but the service also left something to the imagination. They were absolutely just trying to get us in and out and make a quick buck off of whatever deal they must have with our tour guide. The food was just okay, and if you're looking for a quick bite after spending the morning or afternoon at the Cliff's, it's not a bad place to stop, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. read more

Had to take a moment to recognize an unexpected 5 star experience at this little spot. Right in the heart of Doolin, this pub did not disappoint. A charming little pub, The staff was welcoming, kind, and made you feel at home. And the food, amazing! I enjoyed the Doolin Crab open faced sandwich and I honestly could not recommend it enough. Horrible experience. We walked in, waited in line and were never addressed. People were coming into the restaurant; however, no one seemed to care to acknowledge them either. After flagging multiple people down - we were brought to a dirty table - we then were asked to wait at the table, until it could be cleaned. It took well over 25 minutes for someone to come over to clean the table. Then we were handed three menus. But, there were only two of us. We waited another 15-18 minutes. No one came to the table. I went over to the bar to ask to place an order and was told that they were no longer serving food. We witnessed multiple people who were sending food back and the restaurant had a very foul smell. We love Ireland restaurants; however, this was a very poor experience. We won't be back and would not recommend to anyone. read more

After our tour of the Cliffs of Mohr, we were wet and hungry and ready for lunch. Our tour guide brought us here to Fitzpatrick's. This is a lovely place situated right on a major crossroads. The restaurant is set up to handle large crowds efficiently. Our food was very good with the Seafood Chowder and the Vegetable Soup standouts for freshness and flavor. Really enjoyed the food here, which surprised me because it's the most "Americanized" of the 4 Irish pubs in Doolin. There are two separate areas to eat at Fitzpatrick's, the main bar area where the entertainment is set up, and then another separate dining room that is designed as a country barn. The dining room option is preferable for larger groups and families. Although the bar dining is closer to the music, it's definitely cramped and the service is limited. The BURGER. Shocked by how good it was. The best in Doolin for sure. It was cooked medium (they won't cook it any other way) with bacon, it was EXCELLENT. The chips served with it were excellent as well. We started with some crab legs, which were tasty (though small) and came in a wonderful buttery seafood sauce with a light summer salad. I tried a bit of my brother-in-law's seafood chowder and thought it was good, not great. Try the house "craft" beer. It's not very hoppy, but it offers a nice malty finish that isn't as heavy as Guinness. Also stay for the music. There are some remarkable names coming through this pub, including the likes of Siobhán Peoples and Blackie O'Connell. Check the schedule in the summer and you won't be disappointed. This pub is attached to Hotel Doolin. It has quaint traditional Irishness all over it which I'm sure the tourists love as bus loads of them arrive a few times a day it seems. The staff are friendly and attentive. I must of been asked about 4 times during my meal if everything was ok. I went for the seafood chowder and the giant pot of mussels. It was all really tasty. My only regret is not trying the recommended Trawler which I hear is fab. There's plenty of trad music to get you going too. This is a defense review for Fitzpatrick. I seriously have no idea what some of these one-star-reviewers are jabbering on about. Complaining of no service? It's a carvery! Don't you see the counter? You go to the counter and order, or to the food line, it's not a passive-aggressive racist move that staff may realize late that a tourist is waiting on a server at a table for some reason. Someone else wrote a review about how average the burger was, not realizing that the burger is definitely there for the tourists, not to impress. So why not try Irish food? This is a small country town. Not a gourmet burger joint in the city, so order what they're known for! You don't go to Ireland and order their Coors-light beer do you? No! You order their Guinness. Same concept goes for their food. It's not fair to complain. For €11 I got three massive slabs of pork, a scoop of potatoes, a scoop of vegetables, and two small seasoned gold potatoes, a scoop of cabbage, all smothered in gravy, and a bottle of water. It's safe to say all ingredients are local. What a deal. They accept credit cards but the minimum purchase is €10. I ordered the baked salmon that came with mashed potatoes, cabbage, and carrots. Filling meal indeed. Salmon was cooked perfectly. After our paddy wagon tour to the cliffs of moher, our tour guide brought us to this little town to eat lunch because he swears by it, and it IS good! I think both of our entrees were between 12-14 or so euros, but they give generously with their sides, and their sides are good! We ordered 3 dishes: roasted lamb leg, Atlantic salmon, and seafood chowder. The seafood chowder was only okay. It wasn't as thick as you might expect a chowder to be, and besides chunks of salmon, I don't think I found many other seafood ingredients....it was also on the salty side. Our two entrees were delicious in flavor, texture, mouthfeel, just all around goodness!! Husband got salmon with brown gravy, I got the lamb leg with white gravy. It's just all good. Flavors are awesome. Both meats had their original lamb and salmon flavors, sides were fresh and flavorful. The mixed greens and carrots were so good! The carrots were so sweet and they had these white carrots too! The mixed greens contained a green that had a hint of bigger flavor but that also made it good and taste fresh. I ate my veggies sides with some mashed potatoes and those flavors all mixed together were also super good. If you're in the area, definitely eat here!! read more

STAY AWAY! Average food as far as the burger went, especially for the price. Worst service ever. Our waitress Sarah spoke to us once in a one-hour meal. It took 20 min for her to come to our table to place an order. We then never spoke to her again. We always had to flag down other waiters for help and had to get-up to get our water from the bar. Hopefully you won't get her as your waitress. Overall service has been pretty average if not poor in Ireland. Maybe it's cultural but something tells me a lot of it is passive racism in the countryside like this place. Recommendation, don't be colored/ethnic in Ireland. Go to Berlin instead. Why can't I give more than five stars? Wow! What an amazing experience this place was for our group. First and foremost, it's a carvery...you order from the counter as you go through the line (like a cafeteria in the US), you pay, and you take a seat. It's very simple and straightforward. Ignore reviews that complain about service....they just didn't understand the setup. Now, on to the food. The portions are ginormous. I'm not even kidding. If you're with someone, get one meal and half it. You can always get more if you're hungry, but there was so much food that my hubby and I almost couldn't finish. We had the roasted turkey, vegetables, potatoes, bread, butter, and drinks. Everything was delicious like homecooked. A friend of ours got the lamb, which was tender and juicy, and another got the roast beef, which was just as good. My husband really wanted to try the seafood chowder but he gets motion sick and it was too risky with all the crazy Irish roads on a tour bus. However, he got the cottage pie and basically licked the plate clean. I got the Irish beef which was a little tough, but the savory juice was excellent. This was the third place I ate during my trip to Ireland and I must say, compared to the other two it was lacking in flavor. I ordered the lobster meal, which came with chips and a salad. The lobster was cooked well and came with a butter dipping sauce. The chips that were served with it were pretty standard and could have been better. Half of the plate was taken up by the salad that accompanied the lobster, but sadly it had hardly any flavor to it. I ended the meal with a dessert that I cannot begin to try and remember how to spell but I uploaded a picture of it. The dessert was by far the star of the show. Employees studiously ignored my wife and I and sat other subsequent couples down in our stead. Upon inquiry we were told there was no seats available and that all the empty seats were reserved for a large group that was just starting to enter at that point. If the latter were true then why did they seat other couples and why did we have to wait and inquire before being informed? We can understand if the place was truly booked (was it?) but why such rude abject failure to display the common courtesy to take the time to advise us that there was no room at the inn? This restaurant was recommended along a tour to the Cliffs of Moher. I'm normally skeptical when tour guides recommend a place as sometimes it comes with a monetary benefit for them or the company they drive with. However, this place lacked both the tourist trap feeling and the expensive prices I'd come to expect from places on well-traveled tourist routes. When our tourguide, Darren, spoke highly of this place I was quite pleased to find truth in his words once I entered. The restaurant offered a Hafbrau-style dinning experience that was genuinely authentic. All the food was scrumptious with large portions at very reasonable prices. I had their chicken pot pie with a side of potatoes. My husband, accompanying me along this tour stop here, enjoyed salmon with a local Doolon beer to wash it down. I was tempted to have dessert but I was so full by my entree that I couldn't indulge in their homemade pies or cakes. Our host on the Cliffs of Moher tour made the absolute right call when he recommended that we not eat at the tourist trap, but to wait a little bit until we stopped at the Doolin Hotel, about 10 kilometers north. We were able to discipline our hunger, and were well rewarded. As I suspect many restaurants are with respect to tour buses, Fitzpatrick's is set up cafeteria-style, so you queue up and select your items so that the establishment doesn't have to schedule waiters to deal with the sudden influx of traffic. No worries here - the eatery still has a diverse menu - plates segregated into big, small, kids, vegetarian and sweet (aka 'dessert'). I limited myself to the Burren Smoked Salmon - well, it was a small plate in theory, anyway. Didn't need to worry about snacking afterwards, that was for sure! Washed it down with one of the local brew offerings, Dooliner Red Ale, something that I'll have to check to see if BevMo carries/will order. Smooth taste, no aftertaste, and doesn't leave you zonked afterwards. My wife and other busmates seemed to enjoy themselves as well. I noted that others partook in some of the "Large Plates", such as more familiar foods as hamburgers and lamb. If we were to return for dinner, I'd definitely take a stab at The Aran Curragh, a three-tiered fish menu. The sweet plates alone seem enticing enough. So, if you want to go to a small town that still manages to have some damn good grub, the Dooliner Hotel featuring Fitzpatrick's is certainly a decent choice. read more

I was reading the other reviews and was a little upset that I've had 4 experiences (2 dinners, 1 lunch, and just drinks) at Fitz's Bar and they've all been great. The staff has been attentive and friendly. Even our students enjoyed it and found it the most affordable... there was live music for dinner, and a wide selection of dishes to choose from. I will say that I do prefer the dinner menu to the carvery menu offered for lunch. My favourite dish has been the Irish Lamb Stew. The lamb was very tender, and the stew was full of flavour. I've also had the burger and chips which were decent, but nothing super exciting, and the Beef and Guinness Stew (the potatoes on top were a little dried out, but the stew itself was delicious). I don't think that they are any more expensive than any of the other pubs around the area... and it is nice that Fitz's Bar is open all year round, making them a reliable place for a meal or a drink. read more
