After trying -- for over ONE YEAR -- every key duplication place in town to get a dupe of a cabinet key for an ANCIENT file cabinet (I'm a teacher, LAUSD, get my drift...), I was summarily dismissed. "Can't do it," or, "Can do it, but need to order a 'lot' of these keys which costs more than $50," or, "Can do it, but don't have the key and don't know where to get it." TBH, I think most of the places just blew me off because it was too much time-drain for a $4 customer. I even tried a place that does keys online -- they're situated in Kentucky. I sent them a CU photo .jpg of the key. The initial e-mail correspondences were highly solicitous, but upon receiving my photo, they didn't even bother to respond. THAT impossible!! Then found Archer's on Yelp. They spent nearly 30 minutes consulting each other and going through their compendium of key books. They settled on a "trial" key, adapted from a base key that apparently is a close match. We did just one to see if it would work. And it DID, like a charm! I returned and got four more at a little over $4 each. The place is immaculate, well-stocked, and run by kind, helpful, really knowledgeable people. This will be my locksmith forever! Look, if they put this much commitment and expertise into a dinky job like this (but which was critical to me!), can you imagine how wonderful they are at the big, complicated jobs such as detailed by the other Yelpers here? read more

Went to 4 locksmiths to have a truck toolbox key made with no luck. Went to Archers and he did not have the key blank, but he said he would order them. A couple of days later I had my keys. Re-keyed my front door after I lost my keys like a real dummy. They were able to send someone the day after I called, which was fine for me. He came on time, worked quickly and quietly, gave me five copies of my new key, and that was that. $105 for the two locks and the guy was very friendly and professional. I have never had to do this before so I am not sure if that is a reasonable rate or not, but I was fine with it. The estimate over the phone was $85, but I understand the definition of "estimate" and found no need to quarrel. Money can't buy happiness, you guys. These guys were great! We had the latch on a doorknob break, which caused us not to be able to open the door. I think the problem turned out to be more difficult than they anticipated, because they were only able to get access to one side of the door. They spent about 45 minutes drilling and sawing the lock in an effort to save the door. They asked for permission before doing anything that damaged the door or frame and provided useful insight regarding the potential costs of the different options, in order to find the most cost effective way to remedy the problem. After they finished, they even vacuumed the area were they had drilled (they had also put out a mat) to pick-up the steel dust that was created. After about an hour of work, which I think was pretty unexpected, the bill was the same $85 I was quoted on the phone, with no hassle whatsoever. I've had awful experiences in the past with locksmiths that pressure you to buy products or change the price after the work is complete. Not these guys. They are honest and professional. I used Archer's back in February 2015 and highly recommend them. I called Archer's when my deadbolt wasn't working and I was unable to turn the key in the lock to open the door. They came out quickly and were professional and friendly. I thought I needed to replace the entire lock and would have paid to have that done, but they were honest, and told me I only needed a deadbolt latch and they sold me that. These guys are good! I bought a blank car key off eBay and I needed to get it cut, I went to another locksmith and he told me it was going to be 35 bucks to cut it and he wouldn't guarantee it would work!! Wth?!?! 35 bucks to put the key in a machine to get cut that's insane, I came here to archers and he cut my key for 8 dollars! I saved almost 30 bucks and the key works! If you need a locksmith don't hesitate to come here they are good at what they do and won't rip you off. read more

Matt came out to our house to re-key locks in a door but he had some time before his next call and I showed him a couple other doors which we were having problems either closing and/or opening and he took a look at them. I discovered Archer's Lock and Security on Yelp and called when my key broke off in my 1936 front door lock. Jerry, the manager said he would send somebody right away and soon John the repairman showed up. He quickly removed the broken key and made the lock mechanism work better that it had in years. Through no fault of John's, later that day the lock slipped again and I called Jerry who was very understanding; he got John back to my house within the hour as dusk fell. I was sure the old lock would have to be scrapped and a new lock installed that wouldn't be in keeping with the design of the door nor the period architecture. For the next hour John completely took apart the mortise lock, showed me how it worked, found broken springs but managed to repair it. Incredible! Then John came up with an elegant solution for the future when it finally gives up the ghost, A modern lock that won't destroy the integrity of the original design. Although the second visit was difficult and lengthy, and not their fault, Jerry and John did not charge me for it! John was very professional, the best locksmith experience I've had. In the past other locksmiths have merely patched the problem. And John was friendly, funny and an all around great guy. read more

I had a mail box key to my apartment that was incredibly hard to get a copy of. Why I don't know because I'm not a lock/key expert. But when I moved in 2 years ago I looked everywhere and no one could do it. A Sears key place gave me a copy that wouldn't go in the lock at all. Finally I found a hole in the wall in Los Feliz that did it for me. Older gentleman behind the counter gave it to me for free after I told him how hard it was to find someone to do it. This week, after 2 years, the key broke in the lock as I was trying to open it. So here I was again needing to find a place to get a copy. I didn't want to go back to the hole in the wall (not sure it's even still there) so I went to Yelp. Chose this place and rocked up early in the morning. All 3 guys were super friendly. They took my key no questions and made a copy for a great price. Awesome. Was out of there in less than 2 minutes. I will be back no question if I ever need to get a key made. Went to Archer's with two very old door sets that needed keys. I thought it would be fairly impossible to create keys for them at all, but I thought it was worth a try. Matthew was extremely helpful, taking a ton of time to find the correct somewhat rare and pricey key that would work. He then presented all of the options for getting the job done. In the end, after a lot of struggle and work for Matthew, I ended up with exactly what I needed. I thought the pricing was very fair, and quite close to the estimate. Archer's Lock & Safe had the best customer service that I have experienced with the vendors on Yelp so far. I called Archer's Lock & Safe late on Friday (just before they closed) and spoke with Dylan. I wanted to make an appointment to have one door knob an apartment unit either repaired or replaced. If the knob was replaced, I needed to have it re keyed to three other locks in that unit. I also needed to have a recently vacated unit re keyed (4 locks involved). Surprisedly I was able to get an appointment for 9am the following Monday. Danny (Archer's Lock & Safe) arrived right on schedule. After I showed him the two units and what was needed, I was really surprised that the entire job was completed in less than 30 minutes. Danny was also able to replace a broken part in the broken door knob (so it didn't have to be replaced).
