Came to Arcana for happy hour with a friend - it was not crowded at all when we walked in. We got their orange and red wine to start with ($6 per glass) and also got the fingerling potatoes. Everything in this restaurant is vegan/vegetarian friendly. The wine was delicious and the potatoes were super tasty. Best part of this spot is the ambiance- literally feels like you're in a indoor garden/nursery. I love the greenery inside. A definite spot to check out in the Mission for drinks! read more

Such a lovely space - tall ceilings, plants draped along the wall, low mood lighting ... and very fun wine selection. It's definitely crowded and on the louder side, it's definitely upbeat. Not perfect for a long catch up, but perfect when you want to be distracted and feel ~cool. Expect a line at the bar!! Patience!! But not too long. But so worth to be in such a cool space like that - def want to come back here for live music! read more

My friends and I happened across Arcana the other night while looking for a place to get some small bites. The ambiance was amazing - super cozy with a ton of beautiful plants. It was really busy inside, so after we ordered we were lucky enough to find a table outside. We ordered the mushroom flatbread, olives and tzatziki. The food came out pretty quickly and everything was delicious. We all loved the mushroom flatbread the most. While the tzatziki was good, it came with very limited crudites. I also have to mention that we felt very rushed by the staff to eat and leave. They would frequently walk outside and check our table to see if we were done eating. I understand that it was busy but we had barely eaten anything when they first started to do this. This definitely took away from our experience a bit because we felt like we were being monitored all the time. Other than that, I definitely recommend Arcana for some small bites! read more

Ambiance is on TEN!! Perfect for date night or girls night--because you know women love plants! We went on a Thursday night and was able to get seated! But within an hour the place was PACKED because there was a live band -- so get there early. They have wine, beer, and (very) light bites. read more

Came on a Saturday night and it was busy but not too overcrowded, which was nice. It's spacious and has lots of little nooks and crannies to lay back and enjoy a drink with your companions. Love the low, mood lighting and the plants complete the vibe; kinda feels like you're in the jungle. read more

Amazing decors, love the ambiance. Plants everywhere, acacia wood tables and benches - how can you not enjoy socializing here? Recommend to come early to get a seat at a table otherwise it gets packed very quickly with only standing room. Service was good - scan a QR code for the menu and order at the bar. The happy hour can pour was very small, I believe only 4oz or poured into a small wine glass, tasted just ok. We also got a bottle of amore bianco from a local natural winery called fox hill - it was very subtle. Friends tried other wines as well from the rose to other orange wines. Overall feedback was the wines were light in flavor, nothing really jumped out to us. Maybe one day they can expand their menu and source wines from Donkey and Goat in Berkeley, and Stagiaire from Santa Cruz (both make amazing natural wines). read more

Social media does not do Arcana justice-we almost walked past the space since we thought it was just another plant shop. We ordered the Lyre's Amalfi Spritz, Bunch of Herbs with Spritz, and The Dip-sadly they were out of the Mommenpop Ruby Grapefruit Aperitif. The latter drink was strong with vinegary remnants, but I appreciate that they offer non alcoholic drinks too! While they are known for being a greenhouse, it is harder to see their plants at night however when you can, they are huge whereas the ones on the shelves are smaller and more carry out friendly. The Orange Sunshine was a beautiful band to listen to while there was a video projected on a wall nearby the bar. Because their upstairs is closed off, seats get filled rather easily, so I would recommend coming right when they open. Come for the plants and drinks, stay for the good vibes and live music! read more

Such a vibrant and plant thriving scenic bar in the mission district! Arcana definitely threw me with a surprise with how beautiful it is inside. We really wanted to grab a seat inside, but it was so packed that it was virtually impossible to get one. To be fair, we waited for like 20 minutes but we were on a time crunch. I think if you wanted to grab a spot, definitely come when it's about to open. We got a few fruity wines, and they were both pretty good I unfortunately forgot what we ordered. I came during the daytime, but you could definitely see all the greenery that they provide. The vibes are definitely something to look out for here and it definitely doesn't disappoint! I would definitely come back again and hopefully snag a table next time. read more

Fun wine bar in a pretty neat setting. Lots of plants surrounding the bar and seating, I hear it's a nursery during the day? Made for unique ambiance with the live band playing right in front of the bar. Decently large selection of unique wines. My friends and I got two glasses each of their reds (Les Lunes and something else) and thought both were pretty good. We sat in their second floor on the long time with the sky roof above us. Great place to grab a drink and catch up with friends. read more

I plant believe it - plants and wine?! Arcana has been on my SF list for a while and I finally got a chance to come on a Sunday afternoon. Aesthetics are for the plant and art lovers. Plants and artwork are for sale so it's worth it to do a short lap to see if anything catches your eye for purchase. The wine list isn't super extensive but offers unique rotational wines and orange wine. We chose an orange wine that one of the bartenders created the wine label for which was really cool. It's nice to see celebration and support for local artists! A cute and fun space for a small drink or bite. read more

Arcana is a fav of mine in the mission. The bar itself is so cute and vibey. Seating is limited so coming during busy hours can get hectic. Great wine selection, I don't care much for the apps I've gotten here. On thursdays they have live music which it's fun, but it's incredibly loud. So don't go there on that day if you're tryna have a deep convo. One thing is that I was charged a delivery fee of $10 on my bill the last time I went there and dined in. Tried calling to get in contact with someone but no answer. read more

After hearing a lot about the ambiance and energy at Arcana, I finally got a chance to check it out. As a major plant parent, I loved the overgrown forest-y vibe. The plants themselves are a pretty penny if you're looking to purchase one, but they're beautifully taken care of! I was confused how the place worked at first, but determined that the bar is first come first serve and you seat yourself. The bartender recommended a few wine and champagne options based off our guidance and let us try a few before we settled on one. Try the apple champagne if you like light, fruity bubbles! Surprisingly there were only 3 appetizer options; I recommend the red pepper hummus. It's a good idea to come on the earlier side on a weeknight so you can enjoy the space when it's not crowded! I have a love and hate relationship with this place. On the one hand, its everything i could ask for: it has a million plants and it makes me feel like im in mexico city! It's a luscious and green space with low lighting - its sexy. With that said: some of the chairs are cheap and not comfortable and if you are going to sell expensive bottles on wine or bubbles maybe you could invest in better seating (im not talking about the shared tables). The wine selections are also a but basic and nothing particularly striking. While the atmosphere is warm, there is nothing warm about the staff. I have been here more than several times and they are all on the snobby side - unsure why. read more

Arcana has been on my radar via Instagram for a few months and with a vegan friend in town for the weekend, we stopped by here at opening for a few drinks before dinner. In looks, it's exactly what you'd expect from an urban greenhouse. Green plants in every direction you look, nice but not too loud music, and a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My friend and I stayed for a few drinks, I tried the cider special which I wasn't a fan of and switched over to one of their sparkling wines. My friend enjoyed a few sparkling orange wines and said that he was able to taste a few things before committing to his second drink. I would recommend doing that since I didn't recognize anything on the menu since I'm not too knowledgeable on natural wines. For food, we shared the potatoes and beet root ketchup which were good, other than me wanting for a bit more salt on the fries. I would consider it on the higher side of cost when it comes to grabbing drinks around the city, but the vibe is great. It's the type of spot and come in for a drink before dinner or to close out a night on the town. read more

We came to Arcana for drinks after dinner and I loved the vibes of the place. They were setting up for a DJ to play while we were there, but we didn't stay long enough to actually get to listen to them mix. Nevertheless, the music was still bumping and I liked the plant-filled space. My boyfriend and I each got a glass of wine and were able to grab a seat at a bigger community table. It was definitely getting pretty busy once we sat down and was picking up by 8:30pm. The selection of wine was diverse - there were local bottles, bottles from around the country, and European bottles. Absolutely immaculate experience here, such a great concept of plant store and wine bar PLUS huge projector for movie screening! Really not much more you could ask for to bring liveliness to the area or a boring work weekday. For those complaining about not being able to talk or chit chat, the whole point of the live music is to enjoy the experience and ambiance and the band is awesome! I had no issues whatsoever chatting with my friends and if you'd rather go for wine with large groups to talk, they have PLENTY of outdoor tables to stand and chat. So it caters to a cool unique experience inside with live music or outside for wine and talking. Wine - decent selection with good options Service - pretty good throughout the night when it was lightly busy and then packed I think this place really delivers a distinct experience and has gone a great job of curating it. You rarely come by when places like this in SF with both ambiance and atmosphere. I myself was immersed with the Italian movie on display that took me back to a random Italian class I took in college dissecting these movies and it brought back my interest in that so all in all WELL designed and thoughtful concept. read more

The plants are the draw for me but a very nice space to grab a drink, a bite or hang out I had tried to go a couple of times but they don't open until 5:30 and stay open until 12 They have a calendar of events. They're seating inside and outside. Parking can be a nightmare better if you are walking or Uber. read more

Went on a Saturday night and it was packed! Cover is usually $10 but was $15 that night (for both guys and girls). Music was good, lot more dancy than the average wine bar. There's a second story, and lots of plants and art everywhere. Around $16 for a glass of wine. read more

I came on a Tuesday night and it was so lively. Live band, beautiful plant decor, spacious venue and an interesting selection of drinks. The bartender was super helpful in selecting a more fruity wine that I enjoyed. One thing I noticed was that there were lots of women here and that was such a refreshing sight to see since usually men are a majority at alcohol establishments. Arcana is an absolutely gorgeous wine bar in the mission with the most beautiful plant decor! The lighting is just stunning in the afternoon and there were even people studying! I came to Arcana with a couple of friends on a Saturday night and had a great time! Wines were decently priced ($13-$16). If you enjoy sweet white wines, I recommend the Tutti Fruitti. On the second floor, they had mediterranean finger food. There was also a lotería event going on that night with 2 Queens! The place does fill up pretty quickly later in the night, but it wasn't crowded/pushy. The DJ played house music. read more

This bar is mesmerizing! The high ceilings and luscious plants crest such a great atmosphere. My S/O and came around 3pm on a Saturday. It wasn't too crowded yet. Turns out it was one of the few weekends without live music. After an hour, the place filled up. We ordered The Dip, The Skewers and AMASS Seltzer at the bar. Everything was really tasty and unique. The drink menu is limited, but I would definitely recommend coming if you're a wine-o. Overall, we had an enjoyable time here. I'm not if I'd come strictly to drink. Absolutely love the aesthetic of this natural wine bar. It's very very plant-forward, and the atmosphere is lively but not overwhelmingly crowded. My friend and I stopped by before a late dinner, and this was a great place to start off the night. The wine selections are impressive. We both asked for recs from the orange section, which honestly came with a generous pour. I got the Malvasia Bianca, which had fresh, light but vibrant flavors. Cool plant concept and of course in the Mission, but unfortunately the wine was not good..even their signature orange wine, it tasted like expired kombucha. The reds were not full body, tasted flat, not sure how they're keeping the opened bottles. The waitress seemed annoyed when i declined the first taste test, had to chat her up to make her day better and so then she was warmer and i felt less guilty declining the wine and i just settled for one i didn't taste test bc it was already the 3rd one i've tried and i decided just to go with something familiar. Nice space, just needs better wine. read more

Such a cute place to go with a small group of friends for drinks! Be warned, there is very limited seating, and only a small standing room area, so get here early to snag a table (no reservations). The style of Arcana is like an industrial loft, with lots of plants and natural sunlight. Some nights of the week there's live music here! The happy hour menu offerings (4-6PM) are not very expansive; there were only two different wines, and three kinds of small bites. The orange wine was so interesting! It's the first time I've ever had orange wine. It's lightly bubbly and a little sweet. It's very light on the palate. Overall, cute ambiance, but not very memorable wines. read more

I've been to Arcana twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. Both times I've gone, the place has been packed full -- but you can still find seating in the nooks and crannies of this forest-vibes plant bar. I'm very impressed by the great condition all the plants are in, and the architecture and layout of this place is so beautiful. My friends and I did the wine tasting (3 glasses for $20) and enjoyed it a lot. The cocktails are also quite aromatic and floral. read more

Absolutely lovely place to make your first stop on a date night! Great selection of wine. For food they have a steeply priced ($26) cheese board for two, though if you come during happy hour it is half off. Cheeses were delicious, could've used more crostini. The only downside would be fighting for a seat, but once you have one the turnover can be quick as people switch locations. read more

Arcana is a multi-faceted, ever evolving hospitality and event space in the heart of the Mission District, San Francisco. Located at 2512 Mission Street, our main space, aka the Greenhouse includes a natural wine bar, restaurant and plant boutique selling alternative kokedama plants. We throw intimate and vibrant parties, featuring live bands, DJs and drag shows. Our menu is a fusion of Californian cuisine touched by a hint of Middle Eastern inspiration. All of our menu items are crafted in-house, complemented by thoughtfully sourced local cheeses, cured meats and fish from trusted artisans.

History

Established in 2021.

Formerly a neighborhood shoe store, Arcana was remodeled and brought to new life by the Arcana Design team in 2021, Arcana is a light-filled space with 20 foot high ceilings. Featuring its original wood joists of the 1920s structure, and oversized skylights, it is complemented by contemporary sculptural steel and refurbished wood elements from the original shoe store. As an ever-evolving event venue, we are always excited to hear your suggestions or collaboration ideas.

Meet the Business Owner: Naz K.

I am a queer artist activist, a trained metalsmith and a graphic designer who has fallen in love with serving people with good food, a green thumb and curated events, performances and art. After being sentenced and released as a political prisoner in 2009, I fled my country and moved to San Francisco as an Iranian asylum seeker for education and a better life in freedom. During my education at Academy of Arts University with a big hole in my pocket, I started out as a food-runner, quickly became a prep cook and worked myself through the tough restaurant industry of San Francisco. I served and bartended for many years before I moved up to being a manager in an immersive theater and later at a historic ballroom with fundraisers, weddings and corporate events. These years have been filled with learning experiences, great friends and memories that shaped and inspired me in creating Arcana.
