Tasting room from web site photo
    Michele R.

Our discovery of ArborBrook was through dual serendipity. First, the tasting room host at Four Graces highly recommended we stop by ArborBrook, since we planned a stop at next door neighbor Adelsheim. Then, when we got to Adelsheim about 4:00, that tasting room was already closed. So we used the recommendation and went to ArborBrook. We're glad we did that for a couple of reasons. Some have to do with the wine and some have to do with the fact that this is truly what "mom and pop" boutique wine making is all about. The Mom and Pop being Mary and Dave Hansen respectively. I'll share thoughts on both of those elements in this review. Then I'll mention something that was disappointing, although not unique to ArborBrook among small wineries in the Willamette Valley. THE TASTING SET UP: Tasting fee is $10 (refunded with a minimum purchase) and on this stormy Sunday afternoon, owner Dave Hansen was pouring four wines for that fee: a barrel aged Pinot Gris, two 2009 vintage Pinot Noir and a delectable 2007 sauterne styled late harvest Semillion called "Sydney". Named after his delightful daughter who was helping her dad out in the tasting room on the day of our visit. Dave and Sydney had cheese and crackers setting out on a table along with a vase of spring daffodills. A nice touch to make visitors feel welcome on a stormy Sunday. THE WINES: Dave uses a consulting wine maker to help produce ArborBrook wines, with Dave also in the vineyard to taste and make decisions. The Pinot Noir use estate grown grapes. Pinot Gris grapes are purchased from another Oregon vineyard. The Semillion grapes are purchased from Klipsun in Washington State. ArborBrook makes only about 2500 cases of wine each vintage year and has already sold out of 2008 Pinot Noir. The Robert Parker - Wine Spectator feature article on Oregon's 2008 Pinots has created a run by buyers. (What recession?) So Dave was pouring the 2009 vintage for both the 777 Block Dijon clone and also a Heritage Cuvee Pommard Pinot Noir. Of the two we much preferred the Block 777 wine, although at 14% "plus" alcohol we found it to be more ":hot" than we like. Still, balanced acid and although young, it will probably be very good in a couple of years. Then again, 2009 was a challenging year for Oregon wine makers because of high heat, so time will really tell how these wines perform. Although we like Oregon Pinot Gris very much, we tend not to prefer them oak aged and the one being poured that day had spent too much time in barrel for us. Different strokes for different folks. With my previous comment about the 2007 Semillion I tipped my hand about which of the four wines being poured that day that we liked the best. Dave said it was Mary's idea to make a dessert wine. Smart woman! Poured at the end of the line up, the "Sydney" was scrumptious. Just sweet enough, not cloying in the least and with lovely caramel - honey - tropical notes. Dave had blue cheese setting out to pair with it - wonderful. This would also be a perfect partner for panna cotta with fresh berries, creme brulee, shortbread cookies, roasted summer stonefruits or fall pears. Worth the $28 / bottle price. THE DISAPPOINTMENT: Although a barn was converted to tasting room sometime in the last five years, the owners failed to make the minimum adjustments as needed to allow it to be accessible to people with mobility disabilities. Both Oregon code and Federal standards require this (and have been in effect since roughly January 1993) in altered buildings open to the public. So, it is disappointing to see this mark not met. It is much like posting a sign "You are second class and not welcome here" for the minority population of people with mobility disabilities. We'd all be outraged if, as example, if people were denied entry based on their racial minority status What would we do if there was a sign at the door "People with Asian heritage cannot enter" or "People with Mexican heritage stay out"? We'd protest. Why do we shrug our soulders when barriers to entry and paticipation for people of disabilities are erected? Particularly disappointing here since it would require only simple modification of ramp through the door to defeat about a 6" step and the use of some firm and stable surfacing in the tasting room parking lot. Only a few hundred dollars of investment would open the door to so many more wine buyers and also end the "you are not welcome here" message. My friends now using wheelchairs would appreciate equal access. The law says they're entitled do it. We protest with our wallets - won't buy more ArborBrook wine until they fix this.

We had a lovely day tasting amazing wine and speaking with the wonderful staff. This place is a total gem. Beautiful

CHEERS, CHEERS...CHEERS!!! Excelkent wines, beautiful views, plenty of inside/outside seating, friendly staff, snacks and water provided on the weekends to their guests. No joke, this is a must stop on your wine tasting adventure. Plus. They have an art gallery with exquisite local, well priced art work. Come, enjoy the wines, the friendly staff and just relax!!!

    Will drink this next year.

When you go wine tasting, I recommend trying several types of winery; the big corporate winery with gift shop & stuff (Duck Pond, Anne Amie, Argyle), the hoity-toity fancy winery (Domaine Drouhin, Archery Summit), and the small family-owned winery like ArborBrook Vineyards. The range of experiences at tasting wine is enjoyable. At ArborBrook, you get great wine, properly priced, but with a sincerity that is not often found elsewhere. Come on a weekend, and you may get at tasting from the owner, Dave, who will blow your mind explaining the differences between a 777 Dijon clone and other grape vines. ArborBrook generally serves small treats with their tastings, such as a properly-paired cheese or crackers. It is this extra touch that makes the wine-tasting experience so much fun. As a wine club member, you get excellent benefits with periodic events, and the quarterly wine pick-up parties are superb; catered food pairings with each wine and a festive atmosphere. Oh, and their wines are exceptionally good!

A beautiful sign for an amazing winery

We came to their winery during their, "wine and chocolate" members wine release party. They were very welcoming and included us in the event. The event was $15 for four wine pours and four gourmet truffles. We were able to attend for free with the Oregon Wine Pass that we bought during the holidays. The staff was very friendly and sincere. We were able to enjoy amazing truffles paired with the wine, as well as a checking out local artists at each of the tasting stations. I loved the chocolate. They also had different cheeses and crackers. My father found a rain/windbreaker jacket on sale for 50% off. The day was a pure delight and the wines were refreshing. The dessert wine was a delight that I fell in love with. We will be back again. The winery has a nice patio and a lot of great space at their wine bar too. I loved this place. Great setting and very hospitable.

If you're looking for a personal experience with the owners describing and pouring their wines most weekends, this is your place. With have been longtime members of ArborBrook and have always enjoyed their journey. Their location couldn't be better and tasting room is unassuming. When you taste their wine, you will know what they're passionate about. Enjoy!!!

Such an enjoyable first experience at ArborBrook Vineyards. The tasting flight is $10 and you get to try 3 reds and 3 whites. Their wine was delicious, the wine educators were knowledgeable and very friendly, and the vineyard was beautiful. They have a great patio area as well as a nice indoor area with an art gallery.

We love it here. Beautiful patio, great hospitality, delicious wines. Mary was our host and amazing- this is a must visit while you're going through wine country. We will be back for sure. Possible future club members.... love, love, love.

Gorgeous pinots. We had a bottle on their beautiful patio in the Vineyards. We sipped it for 90 minutes. It continued to open and evolve. Each sip was different. Like a new bottle each taste. And it just kept getting better. Truly a journey in a bottle.

The staff was polite, welcoming, and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. The experience was like going into a nice home, next to a vineyard, for wine and cheese. Lovely atmosphere. Our group of eight had a Saturday afternoon reservation. We arrived and were seated before 12:30pm and left by around 1:45pm. This did not appear to be a big operation. During our visit, I saw only two lady employees tending to all the customers. Rain Dance has indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated inside. Regardless of where you sit, there are good views of the property's vineyard and garden. It's beautiful and serene. Shortly after our tasting began, a bachelorette party left. Therefore, we had the inside all to ourselves save for a couple seated by the window. The weather was pleasant so several doors to the house were left open, creating a calm, gentle breeze. We had the wines listed below. Individual bottle prices are from the time of our tasting and descriptions are from Rain Dance's website at the time of writing this review ( https://raindancevineyards.com/shop/ ). * 2022 Grand Oak Vineyard Riesling. $32 for 750-mL bottle. "Classic aromas and flavors of stone fruit and tropical flowers are lifted by vibrant acidity on the palate. This drier-style Riesling allows for so much versatility at the dinner table, but fish dishes are our favorites." * 2023 Grand Oak Gewurztraminer. $32 for 750-mL bottle. "A Rain Dance favorite! Gewurztraminer is a rare find in Oregon, especially in such a dry style. Its lively notes of jasmine, peach and spice box are perfect for Asian and Indian dishes loaded with their own exotic spices." * 2022 Estate Pinot Noir Cuvee. $45 for 750-mL bottle. "Fresh notes of cherries, pomegranate, plums, black pepper, pipe tobacco, and cinnamon." * 2021 Grand Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir. $60 for 750-mL bottle. "Bright and fresh with a complex assortment of dark cherries, raspberries, cranberries, intermingled with thyme, sage, and cinnamon." Since the time of our visit, I think the 2022 Grand Oak Vineyard Riesling and the 2021 Grand Oak Vineyard Pinot Noir have been replaced by 2023 and 2022 vintages, respectively. We also had at least two charcuterie boards ($35 each) that included crackers, roasted hazelnuts, onion jam, pork rillettes, raisins, and three kinds of cheese. The total cost for our group for everything was $336, which worked out to $42 per person. While I've been to a lot of wineries/vineyards and done a lot of wine tastings (just search my reviews), I'm still by no means a wine connoisseur. All I can say about Rain Dance is I thought all of the wines were enjoyable. All four, from the riesling to the pinot noirs, were delectable. They smelled and tasted well made and high quality. In short, I enjoyed our visit to Rain Dance and thought it was worth the visit. Rain Dance Vineyards is named after owners and founders Celia and Ken Austin's Rain Dance Ranch. The ranch was established in 1991 and the vineyard was established in 2009.

Husband and wife founders and owners Jim and Stephanie Houchins are nothing short of fantastic. The wines we tasted were excellent. After meeting Jim and Stephanie, I could really see the passion they had for wine and their vineyard. Oliver Springs is truly a labor of love for them. According to their website ( https://oliverspringsvineyard.com/ ), their first vintage year was 2016 and they "are currently producing approximately 300 cases a year, making [them] a micro-boutique winery." Our tasting consisted of the following wines: * 2021 Chardonnay * 2019 Estate Pinot Noir * 2021 Estate Pinot Noir * 2019 Kieta's Block Pinot Noir * 2019 Sasha's Block Pinot Noir The tasting, regularly $25 per person, included a sheet with tasting notes. Stephanie conducted the tasting and Jim assisted. Jim also took us on an educational and informative tour of the vineyard. Oliver Springs has multiple grape clones, which are cut and grafted from the same mother vines. I'm no wine expert/connoisseur, but I believe the general thought is clones produce more consistent, higher-quality wines. The Kieta and Sasha Block Pinot Noirs were named after two of Jim and Stephanie's huskies. A third husky, Mosey (Mozzie? I'm not sure how to spell it.), joined us for our tasting and vineyard tour, which added to the experience. :) Oliver Springs is a small operation. I believe the vineyard is only about 3.5 acres. I know it's not Stephanie's full-time job and I guess probably not for Jim either. They're open on weekends by appointment only. Our group of eight visited on a Saturday morning around 10:30am. We left shortly after 12:00pm. They have a relatively small, simple, clean, and modern building with a tasting room inside. Unlike many other wineries, this one provides an intimate, get-to-know-the-owners type wine-tasting experience. Several of us ended up ordering wine afterwards. The wine cost anywhere from $42 to $50 per bottle. As is customary, they have wine clubs you can join as well. See my pictures or contact them for more info.
