Luke was super friendly and very welcoming to our party of four. He's very knowledgeable about the grapes and the wine-making process, yet didn't influence our wine tasting experience and let us form our own opinion on the wines offered. He also suggested where we could get lunch, so we went and bought sandwiches at The Common Cup and brought them back to the winery to enjoy with a bottle of wine. The tasting room is really cozy, with a wood fire and comfy chairs for chillaxing, in addition to the bar area. Tastings are $30 but they'll waive that if you make a $150 purchase. The staff are extremely knowledgeable about the local wines in the Willamette Valley area. I concentrated on the locally grown grapes (they do use California grapes too). Very light. No hard sell. I just love this place and the wines are great too! We were here last in 2020 and it was so good to revisit. We did the reserve tasting and enjoyed every selection. Luke was our tasting guide and he was so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. He made the experience that much better. We came in on a day they had a band and a food truck. Overall, we had a great time. People are friendly, and the staff is welcoming--including the owner who was walking around socializing and welcoming newcomers as well as regulars. The person who poured our tasting was knowledgeable and had a good balance of information and banter. I am not really blown away by the wine. But we bought two bottles to drink with some food while we listened to the band. It was a nice evening. read more

Fabulous Experience! Visited this winery on a whim on my wife's birthday and couldn't have made a better choice. The owner was serving and not only was she obviously knowledgeable about the wine she was just an engaging person with great stories about her family history and the evolution of the winery. We also got to visit with her husband, the wine maker, when he dropped in. Apparently, the wines have a Portuguese heritage and we tasted whites, reds and port leaving with a couple of bottles. Perfection. Any way you want to go. Local aunt and I were having coffee when we heard D'Elena (sorry for the guess on spelling!!) ask a tour group if they wanted to "come see how wine was made". We finished up not really thinking we could join and a bit later we began walking outside and caught the group. We followed and asked if we could join to a very welcoming "of course". Got down to the winery, which was an old beautifully converted town hardware store. She gave us some building history, pointed out all of the reused boards and beams, told about the fire way back when so that makes darker beams. Everything was so elegant. Then we went thru the hallway to the Magic room where we saw several wine makers tending their product. This room is not all Cohelo vintages, they rent space essentially to other smaller names. Then we went out back and got a full education on the process there: bonus: we got to see husband Dave go up a mechanical lift to let some Co2 out of one of the larger tanks, which are named after their 11 grandchildren! Had been saving a bottle of 2011 Estate Pinot Noir for a very special occasion. We had purchased it last fall while out on a mini tasting tour with friends who live in nearby Dallas, Oregon. Our sampling in the winery had been good enough for us to splurge $70 on this bottle. It had been properly stored in our wine cellar, waiting patiently for just the right moment. Well -- tonight was the night to open the bottle! What came out? A weak vinegary waste of $70 hard earned dollars. Worst wine ever. No way was that the same stuff we tasted in the shop. No way. So we learned a hard lesson. Buy wine on our Napa/Russian River Valley excursions. Those have always been safe bets and wonderfully satisfying. Avoid these little one-offs in Willamette. Update: Coelho immediately reached out with profuse apologies and will be sending a replacement bottle. Will post again after receiving and tasting. Hoping for a wine worthy of a special occasion - do over. read more

Buckle up readers, its a long ride. Coelho used to be one of my favorite wines. I raved about them to other members in my various wine clubs. Finally I had the opportunity to visit them at their tasting room. The man working the tasting room was friendly enough but when asked how to pronounce Coelho, he couldn't answer. Ok. We signed up to their wine club, explained to us that it was $150 every 3 months, and we would receive 3 bottles. Yikes. Pretty spendy compared to our other memberships, but what the hell, I enjoy their wine. It all went downhill from here. First shipment comes and it's multiples of the same wine. Odd. We taste it, it's ok, and we decide to pay for another and give it another shot. ($178.50, not 150, by the way) Second shipment comes. Same story. We decide we would call up and cancel. No big deal, this has happened before with other wineries. After being transferred to the warehouse and speaking to a man on the phone, he got very argumentative and told us he would not be cancelling as we agreed to four shipments. This was not brought up in our original meeting at the tasting room. We explained we just weren't happy with the selection. The man seemed to really take offense to this and began to get extremely rude. After arguing with us for almost 10 minutes He said he would "process The paperwork" in a few days. Awful service for a company who solely relies on customers experiences to succeed. We called back a few days later to check the status. The same man answered and after stating that it was taken care of, hung up on us before we could get a word in. Honestly, I'm appalled at the service we recieved here. Ive worked in customer service for over a decade and I cannot imagine how someone can actually think it's ok to treat customers this way and continue being successful. This experience has guaranteed me to never purchase another bottle of coelho again. And I will strongly encourage the members of my other clubs to follow suit. Two stars because this review does not speak to the quality of their wine. read more

I just visited this winery with my husband for the first time today! We had a little Sunday lunch date. It's a beautiful tasting room, and we plan to be back! The staff/owners are so friendly and personable. I loved the photo albums as well. We bought the 2015 Portuguese Red Blend and a delicious Port. Their Pinot Noirs are delicious as well! I love the atmosphere & ambiance. When we come back, we will bring friends and family, it's just that nice. read more

I really enjoyed my tasting experience here. The tasting room is huge, there's a separate (paved) parking lot, which is really nice given some of the other larger wineries don't have a paved road. I really enjoyed the Petite Syrah, though there were some other great wines as well. The staff was really great, educational, and informative since I wasn't familiar with Portuguese varietals. Great place, and tasting fees were typical for Oregon... but then I signed up as a wine club member so I got to taste them all for free. That's kind of the point right? read more

Holy wow! So worth the trip! I'm a member of the Coelho wine club and receive shipments 2-3 times per year. I really look forward to those big, heavy boxes filled with sheer, liquid excellence. I have always ordered bottles of reds and only reds. What can I say? Everyone on the planet knows the Willamette Valley produces some darn fine reds! (Ahem, Pinot Noir). See? Sound familiar? Well, my two friends and I made the trip, the very warm and scenic trip, through the beautiful Oregon countryside to the Coelho Winery tasting room which was tastefully furnished with big wooden tables and an exquisite bar constructed of repurposed wood and other materials. I like that sort of thing! I totally recycle! So, like I said, I like the reds but the first item on the tasting menu was a Pinot Noir Blanc. What the???? A white Pinot???? It's just creamy! Seriously creamy smooth and quite amazing! The Coelho boys explain how the juice of the grapes isn't allowed to sit on the skins too long, hence the fairer hue and smoothieness on the palate. (My word, not theirs). Done. I'll take it! Next comes Chardonnay. Divine! I had no idea! Better than most, I'd say. Third, a Pinot Noir Rose' to die for! Just the right amount of dry to compliment the sweet, juicy texture. I love a little glass of pink after a hard day's work. Don't you? Of course you do! Don't be silly. It just makes you feel good. Anyway, after my mind was blown three times over, we came to my favorites. My deeply passionate, garnet loves. (Did I mention the Garnet is my birthstone? It is. I'm an Aquarius and I love to receive gifts around the end of January. That's just some trivia, there). I could never cease to feel the way I do about them, the thick, deep, juicy reds, but my mind keeps wandering back to those three pale sisters moments before. Wizardry, sheer winery wizardry. I may have cocked a brow at this discovery. Needless to say by the end of the day, the trunk of my car was brimming with big, white boxes full of neatly arranged dark green bottles, filled with every color previously mentioned for the happy ride home! I'm guessing I'll be out of stock by the time by birthday rolls around. Just saying. read more

Their Pinots and Syrah are worth trying. They are very well balanced and have an exotic taste to them. The nose is beautiful, the palate is happpy, but the length was short on all of them i.e. once you swallow it's gone for good and nothing lingers. I like my wines to linger at least for a little bit after I swallow, reminding me that I just swallowed something good. I bought a few bottles and I think I'll be back for more. I stopped in here after a few of my friends had recommended it and I was happy to have listened to their advice! They have a huge tasting room with a nice cozy living room type nook with a fireplace. This place used a lot of repurposed wood and it has some big beams on the ceiling. The wine is outstanding! I prefer a bit of heft to my wines and this place serves up some doozies! Big teeth staing reds instead of the usual WW offering of only pinot noirs. Very friendly owners that are happy to converse with their guests with no airs about them! I enjoyed talking to them about their recent trip to The Azores and now it is on the top of my list of places to visit. Go for the wine, stay for the conversations! read more

First off, I am FAR from a wine snob. I am happy with a good tasting $5 bottle of wine. I don't know the lingo or how to properly taste wine, but I enjoy it anyway. Coelho has great wines and one of the nicer tasting rooms around. We love to stop in for a flight and sit around the couches by the fire. All the people that work there are very friendly and more than happy to chat while you enjoy some wine and a snack. read more

First and foremost, the facility is just gorgeous. It's very warm and inviting. Even the bathroom is pretty! Sometimes this place offers salsa lessons! How fun! Coelho is run by a friendly Portugese family who keeps it open daily 11-5. Be forewarned, the prices are on the high side for this area. Tasting fees at the time of my visit were as follows: 3 whites will set you back $5 3 reds including a Portugese red wine- Tradicao - $10. 2 ports, very different -$5. The tastes are large enough to share and the tasting fee is waived with a three bottle purchase. Bottle prices are all $30 and above with exception of the rose'. I found the line up to be solid but not exceptional. read more

The wine here is in homage to Portugal, and it's quite nice. The port was especially good. One fun thing to do after visiting is head over to the very close Monastery, which makes fudge and gives free samples. read more

Coelho's tastings were overpriced - $5 for 3 whites and $10 for 3 reds. The amount of wine poured for the tastings was very small considering the price. One of the reds tasted was made from Lodi California grapes not local Oregon grapes and was way overpriced.compared to California wines made from Lodi grapes. read more

Absolutely love this place. Great ambience in the tasting room, especially when Jake (hope I got that name right) is the host. Coelho has a wonderful lineup of wines from the obligatory Pinot Noirs to Pinot Gris to a Portuguese blend of red grapes to two types of Port. The two Pinots we tasted were very fruit forward as compared to some of the more European styles poured at some other wineries. They really were an expression of what the Willamette Valley is all about. The Pinot Gris was nicely acidic and dry. An excellent wine. The red blend of six traditional Portuguese grapes was, to me, the star. I won't try describing it, but will say if you taste here and you don't taste this wine, you are missing out on a wonderful and unique experience here in Oregon. The ruby Port was excellent. I preferred the Tawny Port, which I would be delighted to drink with any chocolate dessert or cheese course. read more

Gorgeous tasting room and highly attentive sommelier. This vineyard really specializes in Portuguese style wines. I'm not a huge fan of Portuguese style wines but I would definitely recommend their Petite Syrah and the Tradicao Red Blend. Personally, I didn't really care for their rose, however, most of the wines were enjoyable. I would agree with previous reviews that prices seem a bit high. Worth a trip if you are in the area or if you really enjoy Portuguese wines. read more

Visited here for the first time. Luke took great care of us, told us a lot of trivia about their wines. I've been to a lot of wineries around the world and tasted a lot of wine and this is the first time I can honestly say that I liked every single wine he poured for us. BTW, this was our first stop- it does matter. Usually when you go to a winery, you like some of the things that they have and some of the things not so much.
